Vic Mensa & BJ The Chicago Kid Unite For “The Taste”

Vic Mensa has been moving at his own pace, taking time to explore new styles and express himself however he may be feeling at the time. Today, the Chicago artist has come through with “The Taste,” an intimate r&b-inspired track that finds him teaming up with BJ The Chicago Kid.

“Juking on the weekend had me tweaking in your baby phat,” raps Mensa, over a vibey guitar-driven beat. “Know we both is grown now but girl I still bounce and break your back / Phasin in the basement to that Chris Brown let me take you down / My cousins is from Gary we up early when they came in town.” Between his slice-of-life romance and BJ’s dulcet tones, “The Taste” should bring much enjoyment to Mensa loyalists, especially those who can appreciate a more melodic offering.

Baby Keem Adds Brent Faiyaz To “Lost Souls” Remix

Yesterday afternoon, in a simple white-text-on-a-green-background Instagram announcement, Baby Keem announced he would be adding three tracks to his debut album The Melodic Blue.

The Melodic Blue, which debuted at #5 on the Billboard Top 200 earlier this week, is a mix of Keem’s signature rapping style and a deeper look into his more melodic, more introspective side and with the unveiling of last night’s “lost souls” remix with Maryland singer Brent Faiyaz, we got a perfect combination of the two.

Over a slower, synthier instrumental that gives major last-song-before-the-club-closes vibes, Keem skates through his verses and hands the track off to Faiyaz who comes through serenading anyone who might still be on the dance floor.

Starting his verse lamenting about his 16 missed calls, Faiyaz glides through the ups and downs of missing somebody who’s dealing with the attention from other suitors, but keeps it low-key enough to stay away from the cameras and media attention.

“lost souls” was already one of the smoothest tracks on The Melodic Blue and Faiyaz’ vocals make it more like butter. This is a record you could hear when the lights are low and your watch is reading 2 or 3 in the morning or when you’re in the car and every streetlight feels more like a spotlight as you drive into the night.

Moneybagg Yo Drops “Wockesha (Remix)” Ft. Lil Wayne & Ashanti

We’re just approaching halfway through the week and Moneybagg Yo has decided to deliver a surprise single. His track “Wockesha” has been tearing up the charts and became a fan favorite, and after much speculation regarding who would appear on the track’s remix, the Memphis rapper has surfaced with the revelation: Lil Wayne and Ashanti.

Weezy made a cameo in the music video to the song and was initially sampled on the track, so it wasn’t surprising to see him jump in with a verse. Ashanti’s buttery vocals soften the mix as she revives the lyrics to “Foolish” during her inclusion. Fans are already eating this one up, so stream “Wockesha (Remix)” and let us know what you think about the update.

Hitmaka Taps Queen Naija & Ty Dolla $ign For R&B Jam “Quickie”

Not only were we gifted with a new track from J. Cole, but Hitmaka is sliding through with a song of his own. The mega-producer has worked with some of the best of the best in the industry, and he linked with Queen Naija for a smooth R&B jam featuring Ty Dolla $ign. The title of the song, “Quickie,” pretty much describes what to expect lyrically as Queen and Ty sing about keeping things casual and playful in this situationship.

The visual to “Quickie” is set to drop on Wednesday (September 22) at noon, so we’ll keep you posted when that is released. Hitmaka shared a preview of what to expect on Instagram, and it looks like they’re getting things right for Cuffing Season. Stream “Quickie” by Hitmaka and Queen Naija featuring Ty Dolla $ign and let us know what you think.

J. Cole Descends Upon Sin City In Visual To “Heaven’s EP” As He Taps Drake’s “Pip Down” Beat

Big moves are being made over in Cole’s World because J. Cole surfaced on Tuesday evening (September 21) with a surprise track. We’re used to seeing artists drop one-offs here and there, but they usually arrive at the stroke of midnight early Friday mornings. This time, Cole slid “Heaven’s EP” on us, and it is a track that pulls from Drake’s Certified Lover Boy inclusion, “Pipe Down.”

Production comes courtesy of FanOnly, Anthoine Walters, Leon Thomas III, Simon Gebrelul, and Jean Bleu, and in the visual, we see Cole taking his place around Las Vegas as he performs his bars in front of iconic Sin City landscapes or while enjoying luxury accommodations. Earlier this year, J. Cole shared his acclaimed album The Off-Season, a record that debuted at the top of the charts.

Stream “Heaven’s EP” and let us know what you think.

Quotable Lyrics

Some people say that I’m running third, they threw the bronze at me
Behind Drake and Dot, yeah, them n*ggas is superstars to me
Maybe deep down, I’m afraid of my luminosity
So when you see me on red carpets, I’m movin’ awkwardly
Posin’ all nervous, afraid of the judgment
And the thought of showin’ too much of my day is repugnant
I be keepin’ my kids away from the gaze of the public

Kojey Radical & Lex Amor Deliver Funky New Single “War Outside”

From hits like “Cashmere Tears” to his collaborations with Mahalia, Kojey Radical’s sound has proven to be just as versatile as it is infectious. This year, he’s largely shared his talents on other artists records but it seems like he could be in full-blown album mode. The artist slid through with the release of his double-whammy, “2FS” and “Woohaa” in June while remaining largely under the radar throughout the summer.

This week, he came through at the 11th hour with the release of a song that could’ve certainly fit the summer vibes. He teams up with Lex Amor for their ultra-funky new collaboration, “War Outside.” The song kicks off with an infectious whistle that leads into a groovy synth line while Kojey Radical and Lex Amor stretch their vocals into a bluesy territory.

No Limit’s Mac Drops Off His First Post-Prison Single “21 Summers”

The campaign for Mac’s release from prison was going strong this year. The No Limit rapper was serving a 21-year sentence for the murder of a teenage fan, though he maintained his innocence throughout his imprisonment. Though it’s been roughly two decades since he’s been able to record new music, he came back with a heartfelt first day out offering titled, “21 Summers.” Over warm, nostalgic Southern production, the rapper opens up the record dedicating it to the people he was locked up with. He uses the track to share his thoughts on finally being freed from prison and extends a thank you to all of them people that held him down during that time.

Jon Bellion & Burna Boy Connect On “I Feel It”

Jon Bellion’s had his imprint across the music industry as a songwriter over the past few years. That might be why he seldomly releases solo music, or that it’s been nearly 3 years since he dropped his last body of work. Nonetheless, whenever he drops, it’s never anything that’s subpar, as is the case with the release of his latest single, “I FEEL IT” ft. Burna Boy. Taking on atmospheric, ethereal production, Bellion flexes his songwriting skills and hypnotic vocals before Burna Boy leaps into his world.

Meanwhile, Burna Boy has released a string of singles over the course of the year to follow the release of 2020’s Twice As Tall. He also recently appeared alongside Mist for their collaborative track, “Rollin’.”

Dancehall continues to dominate across the globe but there’s one star who has been having one hell of a year — Skillibeng. The rising Jamaican rapper has been blowing up by mixing dancehall styles with trap and drill music. “Crocodile Teeth” was released nearly a year ago and remains one of the hottest songs on the scene. Plus, it received even more exposure when Nicki Minaj hopped on the remix and added the song to the re-release of Beam Me Up Scotty.

Skillibeng has continued to offer new singles on a regular basis and this week, he returned with his new single, “SoSo Badniss.” It’s another hard-hitting single that brings fiery intensity to a rapid flow with an aggressive instrumental.

Jay Gwuapo Runs It Up On “Blah Blah Blah”

We’d be lying if we said we weren’t excited to hear a new project from Jay Gwuapo. It’s been nearly two years since he released his last project From Nothing Pt. 1 and we’re hoping a sequel is on the way soon. For the entirety of 2021, he’s remained relatively low-key with the exception of a few guest appearances but it’s a promising sign that he might have even more music coming before the year comes to an end.

This week, the rapper made a grand return with the release of his single, “Blah Blah Blah.” Taking on string-laden production, his melodic delivery details heavy flexes and offers a shout out to the late Pop Smoke who he worked with on “Black Mask.”

Peep the song below.
