Giveon Holds On To A Romance Gone Cold On “For Tonight”

He released two EPs during the quarantine and his official debut studio album, When It’s All Said and Done… Take Time, was shared earlier this year during the pandemic. Despite the world going through its chaos and changes, Giveon, stylized GIVĒON, has remained a favorite in both Pop and R&B circles as his deep, often haunting vocals captivate a global audience.

On Friday (September 24), Giveon shared his single “For Tonight” along with its visual that complements the track’s intimate lyrical approach. “For Tonight” is a song about enjoying the moment with someone special, even though the relationship itself has come to an end. Giveon once again delivers a tune that fans will love, so stream “For Tonight” and drop your thoughts.

Quotable Lyrics

We’ve become numb to what we know is wrong
But no one knows but us
The feelings rush every single time we touch
Even though it’s what we want, can’t keep this up for long

Morray Reminisces On His Past Life On “Bad Situations”

A rising artist that remains a force to be reckoned with is Morray. The Fayetteville, North Carolina native has been climbing through the ranks to earn the respect of his mentors and peers, and it seems that Morray’s hustle has been paying off well. Earlier this year, he shared his Street Sermons project, and later, he nabbed himself a feature on J. Cole’s The Off-Season. Morray is back with another New Music Friday addition, this time shaped as a single titled “Bad Situations.

On the track, Morray sings and raps his way through his story-telling rhymes as he shares tales of enjoying his come up while also never forgetting where he came from. Back in July, Morray told HHNM that he was spending his time stacking his vault, so we should expect to hear much more from him in the future.

“I’m just recording,” he said at the time. “I got over 125 songs for the album that I’ma have to go through and search through. It’s a work in progress. I’m a perfectionist.” Stream “Bad Situations” and let us know your thoughts.

Logic Revisits “No Pressure” With “Perfect (Remix)” Ft. Lil Wayne & A$AP Ferg

Fans loved “Perfect” in its original form when it appeared on No Pressure and Logic is back with the remix. The rapper’s “final” album was released in July 2020, but it seems that retirement did not suit Logic because he recently returned with an official announcement that he’s back in the game. However, there have been some dealings behind the scenes that left him frustrated because two months after releasing No Pressure, Logic surfaced on Twitter with a complaint about his label.

At the time, Kanye West was lamenting about Def Jam and Logic jumped in with his own grievance. “I feel you, Def Jam ain’t tryin a pay @LilTunechi his fee so I guess the perfect remix aint coming out,” Logic wrote one year ago. “Owe a few of my folks they money honestly.”

It looks as if those checks were cashed because on Friday (September 24), Logic shared the remix to “Perfect” featuring Wayne and A$AP Ferg. Fans are excited to hear this one actually reach DSPs, so stream “Perfect (Remix)” and drop your thoughts.

Quotable Lyrics

Uh, I quarantine with a foreign ting
Gucci sweats with the drawstrings, eating X like soybeans
Smiling like I’m Paul Wall, sipping all this Pauline
She got a body like an RR, I sleep inside it like a RV
Gimme Adderall, gimme perc, f*ck it, I’m still on full alert
I eat every p*ssy on Earth and still have room for dessert

Latto Gets Lucky In The Visual To “Big Energy”

“Genius of Love” is getting yet another Hip Hop reimaging thanks to Latto. The Tom Tom’s Club 1981 classic was also tapped by Mariah Carey for the singer’s 1995 jam “Fantasy” that earned itself a remix with the help of the late-great Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Now, the sample has found new life with the help of Latto and her team after she released her latest single “Big Energy” at the top of Friday (September 24) morning.

Latto’s new name heavily influence the visual to “Big Energy” as she moved on from “Mulatto” and is now pushing the Lucky 7, lottery, slot machine persona. Lyrically, Latto returns with those explicit, bossy bars about her power, money, and influence, and it seems that this is her officially ushering in a new era.

Stream Latto’s “Big Energy” and let us know your thoughts on this one.

Bia & G Herbo Boss Up On “Besito”

This is has been Bia’s time to shine as her “Whole Lotta Money (Remix)” has taken over airwaves. She caught mainstream attention after her feature on Russ’s “Best On Earth” became a fan favorite, including Rihanna who couldn’t get enough of the collaboration. After Nicki Minaj jumped on the remix to “Whole Lotta Money,” the track catapulted to new heights, and now Bia is back with her latest single that she hopes will have the same effect on fans.

On Friday (September 24), Bia shared “Besito,” a song that hosts a feature from G Herbo. Listeners will find that Bia sticks to her familiar laidback tempo that fans have grown to love while Herbo drops off-beat bars to accompany Bia’s bilingual lyrics. We’ll let you determine if these two have the next big hit on their hands, so stream “Besito” and share your thoughts.

Gunna & Future Drop Bars About Making This Look “Too Easy”

Two Atlanta icons have come together once again on a track that they’re hoping will stake its claim on fans’ playlists. Gunna has been celebrating this week after he not only helped open a grocery store at his old middle school in Georgia, but he received his own day in South Fulton. The 28-year-old College Park native is known for giving back to the community that helped raise him, and when he isn’t crossing good deeds off of his to-do list, Gunna is in the studio making magic—this time with Future on their track, “Too Easy.”

Partnering with Future on wax isn’t something unfamiliar for Gunna as the rappers have appeared on songs together including “Street Sweeper” and “Unicorn Purp.” The trap-rapping hitmakers have cooked up a single where they boast about being leading forces wherever they go, so stream “Too Easy” and let us know what you think.

Quotable Lyrics

This ain’t diamonds you lookin’ at, we done updated the roster
You can tell that’s a rich n*gga posture
Young Gunn-Wunna, I’m spittin’ it proper
Trappin’ in school, I was servin’ bags, police was searchin’ my locker

Joyner Lucas & J. Cole Link Warn Against Playboy Antics On “Your Heart”

Two J. Cole tracks in one week? That seems to be the case now that Cole has linked with Joyner Lucas. Earlier this week, fans were surprised to see the captain of Dreamville appear with a new single “Heaven’s EP,” a track that arrived with a Las Vegas-centered music video. Cole cleverly spit bars over Drake’s “Pipe Down” beat, a track that is pulled from the Toronto icon’s most recent chart-topping release, Certified Lover Boy.

Joyner Lucas has had an eventful week as well, as the rapper has stolen headlines after sharing his side of the story in his ongoing tit-for-tat with Karen Civil. Now that the dust has settled, the two emcees have come together on “Your Heart,” a single that finds both artists spinning tales of breaking a woman’s heart and losing her to someone else.

Stream “Your Heart” and let us know what you think.

Quotable Lyrics

I hate a f*ck n*gga, used to be a f*ck n*gga
Couldn’t even blame her if she did f*ck n*ggas
You run your b*tch through the mud, you deserve that
So you can feel it for yourself where it hurt at
What goes around comes around, I know you heard that

OutKast Delivered Something For Everyone On “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below”

On this day in 2003, OutKast delivered Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, a double album essentially consisted of two solo projects from Big Boi and Andre 3000. The ambitious endeavor later went on to win Album Of The Year at the Grammy Awards, cementing OutKast as the only rap act to ever take him the prestigious honor.

For some, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below is the duo’s magnum opus, an odyssey of different styles that highlights the talents of both members. Admittedly, selecting a single song to highlight on this anniversary is no easy feat; how does one decide whether to draw from Speakerboxxx or The Love Below?

Though either one would lead to a gem, there’s something that feels immediate about Big Boi’s Knowing, a potent dose of nostalgic Atlanta lyricism. And to be fair, it does feature some vocals from Andre, making this one of the album’s lone collaborations between the longtime lyrical partners.

Check it out for yourself, especially if you’re pining for the simple pleasures of 2003 hip-hop; some might even argue that it was one of the best years in rap history. No matter where you stand, Speakerboxxxx/The Love Below is an integral piece of the puzzle, so be sure to revisit the album (or at least select songs) when you have a second.

Quotable Lyrics

Fast cash should be the last resort, so make it last
For the risk you took, trick, you shook your ass
For some hundred dollar heels and a designer bag
Now that’s ass-backwards
All you got in the refrigerator is bratwurst
Your stomach is balled in a knot, you got that phat purse
Pocketbook, stop and look, pockets look void
Destroyed by the need to indulge and enjoy the finer things in life

Drake Snapped On “Nothing Was The Same” Bonus Track “All Me”

Friday, September 24, marks the eight-year anniversary of Nothing Was The Same, an album that many Drake fans and skeptics consider to be one of his best works to date. The 13-track project was led by the Mike Zombie-produced “Started from the Bottom” and the dreamy pop/R&B single “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” and it also housed other album cuts that turned into platinum-certified hits, such as “Furthest Thing,” “From Time,” “Pound Cake / Paris Morton Music 2,” “The Language,” “Too Much,” and “Worst Behavior.”

Beyond being a commercial juggernaut, Nothing Was The Same, in a lot of ways, built upon the style established on Take Care while pushing it forward with seamless song transitions, more robust lyricism, and a significantly shorter runtime than its predecessor. With that said, there were some classic tracks stashed on the deluxe version of NWTS, especially the 2 Chainz and Big Sean-assisted “All Me.”

And although eight years have passed without a proper release of the original version of the track that featured Drake snapping over a bouncing sample of Kardinal Offishall’s “Ol’ Time Killin'” in the fourth verse, “All Me” still remains a gem from Drake’s impressive NWTS era.

Get ready for the eighth anniversary of Drizzy’s third studio album by revisiting the album’s bonus track “All Me” below. Where do you rank Nothing Was The Same in Drake’s discography? Eight years later, what are your favorite tracks from the album?

Quotable Lyrics

Look, just understand that I’m on a roll like Cottonelle
I was made for all of this shit
And I’m on the road box office sales
I’m getting paid for all of this shit
Ask you to please excuse my table manners
I was making room for the table dancers
‘Cause if we judging off your advances
Then I just got paid like eight advances, God damn!

Token, Rico Nasty Team Up On “High Heels”

Token, hailing from Boston, has long been known as a fast rapper. Like Busta Rhymes, Twista or Eminem on “Rap God,” the Between Somewhere rapper seemingly rapped as fast as possible, as much as possible.

“High Heels”, the rapper’s new track with Rico Nasty, is a definite change in pace.

Starting with a more-reserved hook and flowing into a pair of braggadocious verses, Token raps in a way few have heard him and tells the story of being under-21 trying to hide in the club and the perils of taking rap life and bringing it back to the big-city-with-small-town-tendencies capital of Massachusetts.

Rico Nasty, fresh off her impressive and powerful NPR Tiny Desk Concert, slides in and immediately takes over the song with a zany verse bouncing over a bass-heavy instrumental and adds a dimension few Token records have ever seen.

Coupled with visuals featuring a near-orgy in a white-pillared room, Token and Nasty walking the grounds with a horse and a closing scene featuring radio static and the two rappers grimacing menacingly at the camera, “High Heels” is unlike the majority of the Boston rapper’s music and is a positive sign of what’s to come on his upcoming album Pink Is Better

Check out “High Heels” and its visuals below and let us know what you think in the comments.
