Paris Texas Deliver Rap-Rock Banger “girls like drugs”

Paris Texas has been having themselves an incredible year thanks to a string of releases that show off the group’s versatility. Comprised of Felix and Louie Pastel, the group has shown off a ton of versatility as they are consistently creating experimental sounds that result in high-energy bangers. On Friday, the two came right back into the fray with a song called “girls like drugs” which immediately brings out some rap-rock vibes.

As you will immediately hear, distorted guitars are driving the production forward, all while both artists sound like their vocals are mixed in the rawest form. There is an undeniable energy to this track and with the subject matter at hand, it’s easy to see why. If you haven’t checked out Paris Texas yet, this is your opportunity to do so.

Quotable Lyrics:

Boy, get out of my way
I’m not the one, not the two, with my heart, you do not play
You was puttin’ on a show, you was never gonna stay

Westside Gunn, 2 Chainz & Armani Caesar Take It To The Grave On “Forest Lawn”

Westside Gunn slid through in August with his first project of the year and the eighth installment in the Hitler Wears Hermes series. The Buffalo MC has largely been putting in work behind the scenes, including the launch of his gallery in his hometown. However, the rapper’s HWH8 arrived in two parts with Side B dropping on Friday. Another 20 songs of gritty New York boom-bap production filled with raw bars of high-fashion and cocaine references.

Westside’s ear for curation is on high on his latest project. On Side B, the rapper enlists the first lady of Griselda and 2 Chainz for “Forest Lawn.” With Camoflauge Monk handling the production, Westside Gunn leads the track before 2 Chainz slides through for the second and Armani closes out the track.

Payday & Danny Brown Team Up For “Vampire”

It’s not everyday that we get new music from Danny Brown but when we do, we’re certainly grateful for it. The rapper emerged this week alongside rapper Payday for her single, “Vampire” ahead of the release of her project, Rap In A Can. The single finds the two artists swapping bars over grungy, distorted production that sounds only fitting for an artist like Danny Brown to feature on. The spooky vibes are met with cutthroat bars, as Payday raps, “I will dismember any MC dissin’ me/ My girl keeps missin’ me while I make history.” Danny Brown comes in with his signature squawky voice as he flexes his lyrical aptitude over these other MCs.

Check out Payday’s collaboration with Danny Brown below and share our thoughts in the comments.

Quotable Lyrics
All horror in my aura we be running the score up
Got ’em biting all the verses but they die by the chorus
What we do in the shadows is a matter of time
‘Til I’m getting that neck and ya soul is mine
Gotta aim for your heart if you’re playing the part
Everything come to light,  what we do in the dark?

John River Drops Banger “Confessions Of A Broke N***a”

John River is direct and brutally honest in his latest single “Confessions of a Broke N***a.”

The Toronto rapper and activist, who has long been battling illness, is adept at storytelling through his lyrics, with many socially conscious songs backed by a catchy tune and addictive beat. This is no exception.

In the track, River mentions that he’s been stressed, working on a new project for four months, and delves into some of his reflections from the past year.

River is known for his activism, particularly his history of elevating the Black Lives Matter movement, where he wore a shirt with the BLM logo to the 2015 Much Music Music Awards, a bold statement at the time. A year later, the rapper attracted attention yet again when he wore a shirt that said “Stop Blaming Muslims” to the 2016 ceremony.

In “Confessions of a Broke N*gga,” River continues his advocacy, speaking out on his opinion that white people should not say the N word. He breaks the reasoning down into vivid, and frankly, hilarious, metaphors. It’s really “not that complicated,” River says.

Check out the song below.

Quotable Lyrics:

In all-white world saying n***s just the wrinkle
Why am I allowed and you not?
You wanna say it so bad we’ll take the shit that you got
Like colleges, scholarships, nepotism, politics
Don’t forget our houses aren’t bigger than your cottages
Your best friends Black? That makes you an apologist
‘Cause staring at the stars doesn’t make you an astrologist n***a

Westside Gunn & Tyler, The Creator Trade Bars On “The Fly Who Couldn’t Fly Straight”

Throughout the year, it was Benny The Butcher and Conway who’ve been holding it down for the Griselda camp. Westside Gunn has leaned deeper into his position as an executive but that didn’t mean that he wasn’t cooking up. Along with a few guest verses this year, including on Kanye’s DONDA, the rapper finally came through last month with Hitler Wears Hermes 8. Now, he’s returned with Side B, boasting another 20 songs of raw and gutter bars.

One thing about Westside Gunn is that he’s proven to be an excellent curator and A&R, whether it’s his own solo projects or other Griselda artists. On “The Fly who couldn’t Fly straight,” he connects with Tyler, The Creator for the second time on wax over Sadhu Gold’s soulful production. Tyler flexes his sharp penmanship, just as he did on Call Me If You Get Lost. Westside leaps into the second verse with high-fashion bars, claiming that he bears similarities to Sally Jessy Raphaël in his red lindell specs.

Tyler, The Creator previously gave credit to Westside Gunn for inspiring him to really go hard with his bars this year. The two previously collaborated on “327” on Pray For Paris.

NBA Youngboy Kicks Off With “Bad Morning”

Boosie once said during Meek Mill’s previous stint behind bars that the Philadelphia rapper would emerge hotter than ever. It seems that the same could be said for NBA Youngboy who just released a new album from behind bars. While he’s passed along messages to his fans in the months that he’s been away, his numbers on YouTube and streaming services indicate that he’s gearing up to take the industry by storm when he returns.

Just as Birdman declared NBA Youngboy the next artist to blow up, the rapper dropped off his latest body of work, Sincerely, Kentrell. Boasting 21 tracks in total, the rapper opens up the project with a statement on “Bad Morning.” Gospel organs and shredding guitars fuel the production for NBA Youngboy to offer a dose of honest reflection and bossed up flexes. It’s a song that captures Youngboy’s trials and tribulations, as well as his perseverance throughout the ups and downs. It’s a

Offset Jim Taps Babyface Ray For Flashy New Track “Make No Sense”

Coming out of California, Offset Jim has been making a name for himself thanks to some dope songs and even some collabs with the likes of Kenny Beats. His style is extremely catchy and it should come as no surprise that his peers are taking notice of his talents. On Friday, Offset Jim dropped off his latest collaboration which just so happens to be a song with Babyface Ray called “Make No Sense.”

Detroit rap is on the rise right now and Babyface Ray is a huge part of that movement. In this song, the two styles work perfectly together as we get some bouncy production and braggadocios lyrics from both artists. The two show a lot of musical chemistry on the track, and there is no doubt this is a must-listen for fans of either of these two.

Quotable Lyrics:

Name a hood talking shit, I ain’t spent
Tried to come to 22nd and got hit
Pussy ass ain’t been back since
