Sleepy Hallow Puts A Drill Spin On A Reggae Sample With “2 Minutes Of Pain”

Sleepy Hallow is waving the Winners Circle Ent. flag high these days, especially in Sheff G’s absence. Following the release of Still Sleep and its deluxe edition, the rapper returned with a few singles this year. In May, he linked up with 347aidan for “Die Young.” While he’s laid low throughout the summer in terms of his output, he’s back in action with his new single, “2 Minutes Of Pain.” His penchant for abstract samples come in the form of a reggae-infused beat, where the chords are spaced out with intense 808s filling in the gaps. In the song, Hallow reflects on those who are incarcerated, including Sheff G, with vivid details of street culture in NYC.

Quotable Lyrics
I can’t lie, I be stuck in the mix
PTS’ got me clutchin’ a stick
Sippin’ medicine, baby, I’m sick
Pass the grabba, this spliff gotta hit
Drop the addy, we spinnin’ your strip

Mac Miller Delivered A Feel-Good Anthem On “100 Grandkids”

Mac Miller left an abundance of music for his fans before his death. Those who’ve followed his career watched him grow from a teenage leader of “frat rap” movement to one of the most versatile and talented musicians of our time. As today marks the four-year anniversary of his untimely death, we’ve brought back “100 Grandkids” to celebrate his catalog.

“100 Grandkids” is a two-part song produced by ID Labs, Sha Money XL, and Josh Berg off of GO:OD AM, Mac’s first major label release. The first half of the record finds Mac reflecting on his undeniable hustle to “sell evil to the devil, nonbelievers to a temple” over warm, nostalgic funk-induced production. Whereas the second half brings Mac to a chilly trap-centric beat where he marvels at his growth and success.

Revisit the song below and sound off with your thoughts in the comments.

Quotable Lyrics
They haven’t got the memo, I’m sayin’ I’m the shit, though
Tryna make it complicated when this shit is simple
Tell me what you wanna be, what your dreams is
A hundred G’s in my jeans, I’m a genius

Baka Not Nice Unveils “Body & A Face”

After a long-winded break from releasing music, Baka Not Nice is back in action with his new single, “Body And A Face.” The song was announced yesterday on Baka’s social media, which Drake later reposted. Baka switches between gruff, auto-tuned melodies and choppy pockets of flow over Oz and Fierce’s hazy production.

The new single arrives just ahead of Baka Not Nice’s forthcoming appearance at Rolling Loud Toronto this weekend. He, along with other members of the OVO team, will be touching the stage for RL’s inaugural show in the 6ix.

“A Body And A Face” serves as Baka’s first release since 2019’s “UP.” Hopefully, this is an indication that Baka’s follow-up to 2018’s 4Milli is on the way.

Check out his new single below.

You know how I stay
City getting hot so he flew me to L.A
Now I got a Matsuhisa dinner on my plate
I just hugged Adele with a .50 on my waist

Central Cee Makes His L.A. Leakers Debut Over An Original Beat

The last artist who we saw drop by Power 106 Los Angeles to record their L.A. Leakers Freestyle was none other than Houston’s own Megan Thee Stallion, who killed it over Warren G and Nate Dogg’s “Regulate.”

Nearly a month later, JustIncredible and DJ Sour Milk have returned with a new guest, though this one hails from a bit further away – like, all the way across the pond.

For his freestyle, “Doja” rapper Central Cee opted to spit over an original beat, sharing with listeners some clever comparisons between America and the U.K., where he’s based.

“They don’t understand, I’m giving them U.K. slang / My brudda, my fam, my akh,” the 24-year-old raps. “You say ‘The feds just done a sweep’ / We say ‘The boy dem run in my gaff’ / You say ‘On God, no cap’ / We say ‘Swear on your life don’t gas’ / You say ‘Spin the block’ / We say ‘Jump out and slide and crash.'”

NBA YoungBoy Collaborates With His Partner, Jaz, On “Poppin Sh*t” Off “Realer 2”

Fresh off of the release of his fourth studio album, The Last Slimeto, NBA YoungBoy has already returned to bring fans a new mixtape titled, Realer 2. One of the notable tracks on the project is “Poppin Shit,” which features his partner, Jazlyn MyChelle, who is credited as Jaz.

Jaz kicks off the track to sing a chorus referencing Balenciaga and having hair like Rapunzel.

The release of the song comes after YoungBoy recently confirmed that he and Jaz are expecting their second child together, which will make for the rapper’s tenth overall. His fiancée was featured pregnant in the music video for “Purge Me,” which was released yesterday.

While fans have been bracing for Realer 2 since it was teased back in February, it wasn’t until DJ Akademiks reported yesterday that the mixtape was ready for release at midnight that fans could gear up for its official release.

Check out YoungBoy’s “Poppin Shit” below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Singin’ to the thunder, stayin’ strong through the rain
Switched up for that bag, but can’t get mad, ’cause I won’t change
Four-door matte black Jag as I smash through the lanes
I know that shit sad but I fall back cause all it lame

Big Sean Shows Out On Previously Unreleased “Detroit” Track, “More Thoughts (2019)”

Big Sean’s fan base was incredibly pleased when the 34-year-old rapper revealed on Sunday (September 4) that he would be dropping his 2012 mixtape, Detroit, on DSPs in celebration of its 10-year anniversary.

To make things even more memorable, the soon-to-be father of one added a previously unreleased title to the tracklist – “More Thoughts,” which was recorded in 2019 and was produced by Key Wane For The Win, Amaire Johnson, and Lawrence Lamont.

“Look, bitch, please, don’t act like my friend, be my friend / My mama said, “Don’t act like a man, be a man,” Sean spits on the first verse. “Quit going overboard,” I think it’s finally sinkin’ in / KeY Wane on the beat, you know that be my favourite BPM.”

Other noteworthy titles on the project’s tracklist include “24k of Gold” featuring J. Cole, “How It Feel,” and “I’m Gonna Be” with Jhené Aiko.

Quotable Lyrics:

Dawg, I seen n*ggas get buried in suits that never wore suits
That shit can get deep as my Nigerian roots
And I need therapy too, someone that care for me too
Someone who there for me to the point
When they not there, it still feel like they there for me too

My zone is not a comfort zone, you can’t compare me to you

NBA YoungBoy Gives A Look Into His Life At Home As A Dad & Fiancé In “Purge Me” Video: Watch

Following his collaboration with Quando Rondo in August on “Give Me A Sign” ahead of their rumoured joint tour, NBA YoungBoy has returned with a new single of his own called “Purge Me,” along with an accompanying music video in which he seemingly announces that his ninth child (and second with fiancée Jazlyn Mychelle) is on the way.

In the visual, the 22-year-old can be seen spending time with his loved ones, kissing his young children and showing affection to his expecting partner as she gets ready in the bathroom.

“I won’t hurt you if you don’t hurt me / I ain’t seen you yet, I ain’t worried,” YB sings to her on the chorus. “I got choppas on the seat, I ain’t worried / Got my daughter upstairs, please don’t try to purge me.”

The new single arrives a month after the Baton Rouge native dropped off his most recent LP, The Last Slimeto, in early August – check that out here, and stream “Purge Me” exclusively on YouTube above.

Ari Lennox’s Vocals Shine On “Bitter” From “Away Message” EP

As Ari Lennox stays busy preparing for the arrival of her highly anticipated follow-up to 2019’s Shea Butter Baby, the 31-year-old has fed herself with a few new songs in the meantime, delivering her Away Message EP on Friday (September 2).

The 5-track release included just one collaboration, coming from Summer Walker on the opening title, “Queen Space.” For the following four songs, the Washington, D.C. native showed off her vocal range in a variety of styles, ranging from more upbeat to closing things out with an old-timey tune called “Bitter.”

“Bittersweet, like the cherries on the east / You got me strung out on love,” Lennox reflects as her voice shines on the chorus. “Shouldn’t be witnessing / Your happy ending / Your happy ending.”

As you may have heard, the R&B starlet’s album is due out this coming Friday (September 9) and has been called age/sex/location, with previous releases like “Pressure” and Hoodie” due to appear on the tracklist.

Check out her full Away Message EP here, and stream “Bitter” on Spotify, Apple Music, or Soundcloud below.

Stream Beyoncé & JAY-Z’s “Upgrade U” In Celebration Of Her 41st “B’Day”

Beyoncé has been on top of the world after delivering her first studio album since 2016, RENAISSANCE, earlier this summer, and while the celebrations from the album’s initial debut have died down as of late, they’re getting started again today (September 4) in honour of Queen B’s 41st birthday.

While she’s got no shortage of hits in her discography that would be perfect to commemorate today, we’ve decided to spotlight “Upgrade U” featuring her husband, JAY-Z from 2006’s B’Day.

After Hov insists that Bey talk her shit on the intro, the mother of three doesn’t hold back, launching into the first verse with “I hear you be the block, but I’m the lights that keep the streets on / Notice you the type that like to keep ’em on a leash, though / I’m known to walk alone, but I’m alone for a reason / Sendin’ me a drink ain’t appeasin’, believe me.”

The track arrived as a single ahead of B’Day‘s debut and was primarily produced by Swizz Beatz. Check it out on Spotify or Apple Music below, and watch the music video above.

Happy Birthday, Beyoncé!
