Vince Staples Updates Fan On Future Of His Netflix Show, Admits He Was Surprised By It’s Success

Vince Staples says that he’s still figuring out the direction he’s going to go in with the future of his Netflix series, The Vince Staples Show, but is excited by the level of success it achieved after it’s first season. He provided the update on the series during an interview with Rolling Stone to promote the release of his new album, Dark Times.

“I’m grateful,” he said. “I got to do something that isn’t really done on that network, or just done in general, with trying to break format and conventional comedy. I’m just trying some new things. So, I’m very happy that people embraced it, and we’ll see how they feel about it moving forward. We’re still trying to see what’s going to happen with that. But, looking forward to other opportunities in the medium.”

From there, Staples explained that he was used to the response to his work being more polarizing and was caught off guard this time around. “I don’t really make things that people [enjoy] like that, just to be honest,” he said. “I think I have a niche fan base. I’ve never had an extreme level of success. So, I’m always open to people not liking something or it not [being digested] right. I was honestly surprised by the way that it was received. But, yeah, man, I just feel like this show went very well, and especially for first-time writing, first-time producing, first-time starring in all of these things, I’m grateful for that.”

Donald Glover Won’t Appear In Season Two Of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” Despite Renewal

Fans of Amazon’s series Mr. & Mrs. Smith got some good news recently when the streaming service confirmed that the show was returning for a second season. But now there’s a pretty surprising development being made. The show seems like it will return without its two primary cast members. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine helmed the show in its first season but according to Variety, the pair won’t return. Glover may still have some involvement as his name is mentioned as a co-creator and executive producer in the statement made announcing the next season.

“We are excited to announce that a second season of our groundbreaking spy series, ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith,’ is in the works for our global Prime Video customers,” a statement from Amazon reads. “The success of the first season, with its incredibly modern, sexy reinvention of the original film, is a testament to the brilliant creators Donald Glover and Francesa Sloane. We are proud to bring you another season filled with unforgettable journeys and new adventures,” they continue. Glover is yet to comment on his departure from the series.

Donald Glover Won’t Star In Season Two Of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”

It’s not actually that surprising that Glover is shifting his focus away from acting a bit. That’s because there’s been a recent flood of news surrounding his musical project Childish Gambino. He just dropped a new album called ATAVISTA that’s an updated and finished version of his 2020 effort 3.15.20. He’s also promised that a second new album is on the way at some point later this year. That should drop just in time for his upcoming new world tour, where he will take the stage alongside Willow and Amaarae in a series of North American and European shows.

What do you think of Donald Glover not returning for a second season of Mr. & Mrs. Smith despite positive reception of the show? Do you plan on seeing him perform on the Childish Gambino tour later this year? Let us know in the comment section below.
