Doja Cat Apologizes For Recent Concert Says She Was “Not Happy With Her Energy”

Doja Cat is no stranger to facing criticism online. She famously picked a fight with her own fans earlier this year. The reason for the beef was her disapproval of the name her stans picked for themselves “Kittenz.” The spat resulted in her losing hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers though she didn’t seem to particularly care. That was only the start of her controversies this year though.

She released her new album Scarlet back in September and the entire era was soaked in controversy. She was repeatedly bothered by fans and critics for her continued embrace of satanic and demonic imagery. The peak of which came on the fittingly titled single Demons which saw her indulging in a disturbing costume for the accompanying music video. Despite the controversy bothering many she continued to double down pretty much every time anyone took issue with whatever she was doing. But the newest piece of criticism directed at Doja is actually coming from herself.

Doja Cat Critiques Her Own Performance

Last month, Doja Cat took off on the Scarlet tour supporting her new album. Alongside Ice Spice and Doechii, she’s been dazzling arenas across the US for weeks now. But one recent performance wasn’t up to her own standards for herself. “I’m so f*ckin sorry. New Jersey I don’t know what the f*ck that was. I’m really not happy with my energy tonight,” she said on her Instagram story overnight. The show in question took place overnight at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. It’s the 17th show on The Scarlet Tour so far.

It’s unclear if there was any specific reason why she felt her performance wasn’t up to par. In the comments, fans point out that she’s sounded like she’s sick during some recent shows. Despite that, fan videos show her giving her full effort and many online are clearly appreciating it. What do you think of Doja Cat’s critiques of her own performance at a recent show? Let us know in the comment section below.

Doja Cat Bites Back With Intoxicating “Scarlet” Tour

With audiences and critics’ unrestricted access to the inner happenings of creatives (in various mediums) reaching a new frontier, the delineation between music, personal circumstances, and the demands of a fanbase is rapidly evaporating. Every statement and motion magnified to the umpteenth power, the lens can begin to shift away from what matters most: the music.

Some artists, though, take it upon themselves to step out of that perpetual game of cat and mouse, taking the art in a direction that may seem jarring to others, but feels true to themselves. In this moment, the union of intention and intangibles creates something honest, and in that sense, undeniable.

Enter: Doja Cat

The full-on megastardom brought about by her 2019 album Hot Pink came along with the inevitable magnification of one’s entire existence. 2021’s Planet Her only continued the ascent, multiplying the spectator’s angle of view. These facets of artistry/industry all came to a head when Doja decided to make a blatant shift in aesthetic, ditching the bubblegum for something much more abrasive, and in many ways, more tactile. New haircut. New style. And a new (or moreso revealed) musical approach.

In the period after Planet Her, Doja Cat released tracks such as “Paint The Town Red” and “Attention.” The latter truly set the tone for the potent rapping that would take place on her 2023 album Scarlet. In fact, the former set the stage for an unforgettable spectacle that tour attendees won’t soon forget.

Doja Cat Weaves Her Web

Akin to watching a fully fleshed-out horror film or dark anime i.e. Devil May Cry, Doja Cat leaned into the Scarlet theme with reckless, yet somehow meticulous, abandon. Draped in all red regalia during a dramatic intro accompanied by a string section, she then burst into full energetic bravado for “WYM Freestyle.” The visual backing then transitioned the audience into a jarring, captivating performance of “Demons.” A mechanical black spider, of which seemed to be all of 20+ feet tall with red, piercing eyes, added an intimidation factor incredibly early in the show. This, coupled with her immaculate breath control told everyone one thing – Doja Cat means business.

She rounded out the first act with “Tia Tamera” and “Shutcho,” instantly garnering massive crowd engagement. The choreography began to ramp up, and the presentation of the dancers left nothing to be desired. The characters in the ‘Scarlet’ theatre embodied each scene, whether with fervent aggression, tender sensuality, or tangible culminations of both. The aforementioned sensuality began to display itself more during the final song of this act, “Agora Hills,” and would continue to reprise its role in the acts to come.

Standing At Attention

As mentioned in the intro, the June 2023 single “Attention” signified an aesthetic and energetic shift for Doja Cat. The same can be said for its iteration as the first track in Act II. There was a fierce focus in her delivery of the verses. Moreover, the choreography was much less dance-based and served as interactive sculptures around different moments of the song. Even the accompanying screens and effects were ever-so-slightly more subdued, directing every anticipating eye to the star of the show.

Following that was a sonically stunning performance of “Often,” but what came next was a shock. After filling the crowd in about some details of a voice ailment she was dealing with, out spilled the lyrics “I’ve got a red room, it is the red hour when the sun sets in my bedroom.” This was a thematically poignant, gorgeous cover of “Red Room” by the ever-transcendent Hiatus Kaiyote. This tied together her performance. Not to mention, it also displayed Doja’s ear and creative choices to a heightened extent.

She closed Act II with a rousing performance of “Ain’t Shit,” an obvious fan favorite, then dove headfirst into the next segment of this spectacle.

Still Superstar Status

The intention behind the cinema that is Scarlet still stands strong. However, shedding the pop-star persona for something that aligns more with her creative approach just works. Doja Cat still has a plethora of crowd-moving mega-hits in her arsenal. Act III was a showcase of metaphorical (and literal) firepower, as she rattled off hit after hit, with various pyrotechnics aplenty setting the scenery ablaze.

In succession, the crowd was delighted by “Woman,” an afrobeats-inspired mix of “Say So,” “Get Into It (Yuh),” “Need To Know,” and “Kiss Me More.” As if some of her hottest tracks weren’t enough to elevate the temperature in the building, intricate lasers, thermal optic sights, and a kiss cam took the act to a different degree. Doja’s screams of “KISS EACH OTHER” served as an entry point for what was next to come.

Paint The Streets Red

Being her “biggest rap hit” in terms of sales numbers, “Paint The Town Red” was yet another eye-catching single released prior to the unveiling of ‘Scarlet.’ One issue with people’s understanding of artistry – or lack thereof – is they begin to attach unrelated context that was never intended.

Doja Cat never said she would no longer make hit music. The perpetual bubblegum pop aesthetic – coupled with a lack of awareness for her lyrical prowess and penmanship – simply called for a drastic enough redirect to be intentional, visible, and most importantly, effective. Performing the track with a massive sentient eyeball alongside her on stage acted as an omni-directional lens: everyone is intent on looking at and analyzing her, while she now has the wherewithal to keep an eye on everyone else.

Following that display of multi-level understanding, Doja shifted the atmosphere back to palpable sensuality. “Streets,” the most sonically sultry of her hits, received a performance in equal measure. “Painting the town red” was seemingly not enough. Standing alone, she instead opted to delve into a visual masterpiece in performance art all her own. She communicated each brush stroke through music and motion. The dance of the cosmos, in miniature. In an act of beautiful juxtaposition, she then performed a reverberating, raucous “FTG.” She did this alongside more flames and intensified choreography to close Act IV.

Doja Goes Off

Numerous tracks encapsulate the essence of the ‘Scarlet’ cinematic experience. “Go Off” and “Ouchies” leading into “Wet Vagina” is an incredibly vivid illustration. The nonchalant braggadocio, tailing into ruthless lyrical aggression, all spiraling into uncensored, unfiltered outbursts truly created an experience that Doja Cat may currently have a monopoly on.

The live band, of which was stellar throughout the entire night, put on an absolute masterclass during the closing act. Each riff added dimensions that speak to the reasons live concerts are regarded so highly. The drummer was phenomenal, with impeccable timing alongside the electronic bass hits and ghost notes that rounded out each verse in pristine fashion.

Capping off the spectacle was an amalgamation of the effects present within the duration of the show. Fireworks, pyro, lasers, screen flares and flashes – whatever your mind can construe, it played a role in bringing down the curtain exquisitely for the parting act. One thing is astonishingly clear – with this echelon of artistry, Doja Cat will be painting towns in whichever color she feels for many years to come.

Doja Cat Asked Her ‘Scarlet’ Alter Ego To ‘Sh*t On My Face’ And Shouted Out Satan In Her New Spoof Interview

Doja Cat’s Scarlet Tour left Uproxx’s Aaron Williams impressed with how Doja confronted “both the haters and the unhinged alter ego” named after her defiant Scarlet album. This morning (November 13), Doja Cat left nothing to the imagination when she dropped a six-minute spoof interview, which she teased over the weekend.

It starts with Doja Cat arriving on the set of a fake late-night television show hosted by her Scarlet alter ego. Within 45 seconds, Doja jokes to Scarlet, “I want you to sh*t on my face. I know that for a fact.” Somehow, it progressively gets even more unhinged.

Doja Cat discusses shaving her eyebrows and head, but clarifies, “I don’t shave my vagina.” Next up? The controversy surrounding Doja Cat losing “a little over a million followers” across social media, which Doja Cat blames on posting “a picture of Whoopi Goldberg’s nipples on Instagram.” That leads to a question about “what type of perks come with being in The Illuminati.”

Doja doesn’t flinch, saying, “Uh, free applesauce [and] chicken wings, but I haven’t seen any lizard guys in suits. […] I want to do goat sacrifices because that’s actually pretty spooky. Also, I’d love to give a shoutout to Satan.” Naturally, Scarlet asks whether Doja Cat ever indulges in worshipping Satan. After a quick belch, Doja says, “All the time. I give my demons free cheese.”

And we’re not even halfway home, guys. The second half of the spoof includes seemingly serious commentary from Doja Cat on how she’s evolved in her writing, but just when you think she’s being serious, she lets out a huge fart after saying, “I can express myself as me, and I have never been so comfortable.”

Watch it all above.

Doja Cat Interviews Herself In A Hilarious New Video

Doja Cat has often spoken fondly about the internet and growing up online. Earlier this year she stopped by Hot Ones to discuss a myriad of topics. Among them was her own internet addiction. She discussed many of the “YouTube rabbit holes” she’s fallen in while browsing the platform. Now, she’s taking much of the surreal content she’s seen and channeling it into a new video.

In the interview, Doja herself is interviewed by herself. Well, it isn’t exactly herself, but her Scarlet character from her new album era. As the title of the video reads, Doja is there to answer some “hard-hitting” questions but all is not exactly as it seems. The video has a distinctive editing style that Doja has spoken fondly of in the past. It’s technically a “YTB” a genre of video where fans online take interview clips and edit them in surreal and comedic ways. The only difference is that it seems like Doja made the new video with that format in mind and leaned into the potential of the editing techniques. Check out the full hilarious video below.

Doja Cat Shares New Parody Interview

In the comments, fans seem to find the video just as funny as Doja herself. “Seeing scarlet wearing regular clothes still covered in blood is comedy gold,” one of the top comments on the video reads. “This whole thing is hilarious. i wish she could turn this into a show cause she said she’d love to have one someday,” another agrees.

Doja Cat is currently out on tour alongside Doechii in promotion of her new album Scarlet. The pair have only been touring for a few weeks but they’re already making waves with almost every show. Sometimes that’s with new material and other times viral moments like Doja’s mic cutting out mid-song. What do you think of Doja Cat interviewing herself in the surreal new video? Let us know in the comment section below.

Doja Cat Pokes At Her Fan-Hating Controversy In A New Late-Night-Inspired Skit For Something ‘Out Monday’

Doja Cat‘s fans are currently spiraling after the singer posted a cryptic video to her Instagram, with nothing but the caption “Out Monday.” The clip finds Doja (as her red-painted Scarlet altar-ego) interviewing the seemingly regular Doja, mirroring the style of a late-night television show.

“This might be a silly question,” Doja asks herself from the hosting desk in the skit. “Do you appreciate the people and the fans who support your music?”

The video then cuts to Doja dressed up, as she sits on the stage. A thought bubble version of herself appears right above. “I hate my fans,” she says, speaking from her inner thoughts. “My fans are dumb.” Instead of saying that out loud, she just answers, “Yeah,” as the audience cheers.

It is playing off Doja’s recent headline-making moment after she criticized her fanbase on social media — which sparked questions of whether she genuinely thought it or was leaning into some sort of persona for her recently released album, Scarlet.

While it’s still unclear exactly what this teaser is for, Doja’s fans seem to believe that it’s likely for a new music video. Some have speculated possibly for “F*ck The Girls (FTG),” “Shutcho,” or something else entirely.

Doja Cat Labels “Say So” A “Cash Grab” During “Scarlet Tour” Performance

Doja Cat labeled her hit song, “Say So,” a “cash grab” during a recent performance in Denver, Colorado, on The Scarlet Tour. While dancing to the chorus, she remarked “C’mon cash grab,” to the audience as they sang along. The clip comes after Doja previously called her 2019 album, Hot Pink, on which the single is featured, as well as her 2021 effort, Planet Her, “cash grabs.”

Taking to Twitter, earlier this year, she wrote: “Planet her and hot pink were cash-grabs and yall fell for it.” In a follow-up post, she added: “Now i can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while yall weep for mediocre pop.”

If she did release it as a “cash grab,” Doja Cat certainly succeeded with the track, “Say So.” The Recording Academy honored it with nominations in two categories at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards for both Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. The song peaked at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The RIAA has certified it six times platinum in the U.S. Check out Doja’s latest antics on The Scarlet Tour below.

Doja Cat Calls “Say So” A “Cash Grab”

Earlier this week, Doja revealed her latest life philosophy on Instagram. Captioning photos from the tour, she wrote: “Life is about oiling up your abs and telling people to stop looking at you. Life is about memes and club penguin. Life is about wearing makeup and wearing high heels with socks. That’s what i’ve learned. That’s my philosophy. If you don’t like it then…… i….. don’t…….. know what to tell you!!!!”

Doja Cat Doubled Down On Her ‘Cash Grab’ Comments While Performing ‘Say So’ During A Recent ‘The Scarlet Tour’ Stop

Despite the massive social media purging Doja Cat faced online, the “Attention” rapper’s career continues to thrive. Yesterday (November 10), Doja received multiple Grammy nominations (Best Melodic Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Pop Solo Performance). Her Scarlet album has staying power on the music charts. Plus, her supporting tour with Ice Spice and Doechii is receiving rave reviews, including from Uproxx’s own Aaron Williams.

You were wrong if you thought Doja would walk back any of her past remarks. Yesterday, during The Scarlet Tour’s stop in Denver, Colorado, she doubled down on one. “C’mon cash grab,” yelled Doja to the Ball Arena crowd as they sang along to her song “Say So.”

In a series of now-deleted posts shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) page in May, Doja confessed that she wasn’t proud of some of her past bodies of work. “‘Planet Her’ and ‘Hot Pink’ were cash-grabs, and y’all fell for it. Now, I can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while y’all weep for mediocre pop,” penned the rapper.

Although those projects led her to achieve superstar status and a Grammy Award, Doja promised to stay away from pop and focus on showcasing her rap abilities. Initial supporters weren’t pleased by her statements, but ultimately it paid off.

Doja Cat Gets Philosophical In Her New Instagram Post

Doja Cat fans really never know what to expect when she posts to Instagram. That was the case earlier this year when she picked a fight with her own fanbase over them naming themselves “Kittenz.” It got even stranger later in the year when she began the bizarre promotion for her new album Scarlet. That included strangely edited photos and videos of Doja overlayed with spider imagery and occasionally explosion effects.

Now, she’s once again keeping fans on their toes. In a new post, she shared some pretty normal pictures by her standards. But in the captions, she began waxing philosophical about her new take on life. “life is about oiling up your abs and telling people to stop looking at you. Life is about memes and club penguin. Life is about wearing makeup and wearing high heels with socks. That’s what i’ve learned. That’s my philosophy. If you don’t like it then…… i….. don’t…….. know what to tell you!!!!” her post reads. Check out the post itself below.

Doja Cat Gives Her New Take On Life

In the comments, fans take the format of her caption and share their own philosophies. “life is about going to the scarlet tour with monster wedgies,” one of the top comments on the post reads. That’s in reference to Doja Cat and Doechii’s Scarlet tour which first kicked off last month.

Even though the stadium tour only just begun it’s already making nightly news. Part of that is for Doja and Doechii teasing new material they’ve been working on together. Others are viral moments like Doja’s great reaction to her mic cutting out during “Kiss Me More.” Doja doesn’t normally need any help going viral but recently she’s had even more reasons than usual. Many fans are still working through the controversy she caused by embracing demonic imagery in her new album. What do you think of Doja Cat’s surreal new Instagram post? Doja Cat’s New Tour Photo Dump Shows Off Her Spider Energy: See Pictures

Doja Cat’s Scarlet tour is in full effect, and it’s certainly proving itself to be a notable, eventful, and stimulating experience. Of course, it got bogged down by technical difficulties just like any other show, but she hilariously played it off to cater to the crowd. That just proves the showmanship, talent, and good sense of humor that the Los Angeles artist is keeping up no matter what comes her way. However, she also wants to show everyone who skipped out on this trek that they will regret doing so. Moreover, with the “Agora Hills” MC’s latest Instagram photo dump, she showcased the amazing fits, visual set designs, and hazy atmosphere that Scarlet is taking across the U.S.

Furthermore, having set posts from her on social media might actually be for the best. That’s because, whenever Doja Cat goes on Instagram Live and goes for more unfiltered engagement, there’s always some big concern and worry on behalf of her fans. It’s hard to tell how much of these are just shocked reactions and how many are genuinely worried for her. Regardless, it definitely won’t slow the 28-year-old down, and all we can hope for is that she’s just playing things up for social media clicks and isn’t actually in need of a check-in.

Doja Cat’s Tour Photo Dump: Scroll Through The Pics Below

Aside from that contentious fan relationship, which escalated a lot this year due to her comments on her “Kittenz” and on fandom as a whole, they still have a lot to look forward to from her. For example, Doja Cat recently previewed her upcoming collaboration with Doechii, who’s also on the Scarlet tour. Hopefully that traveling chemistry manifests in a great way for some more amazing music. After all, she impressed many doubters with Scarlet, and the project shows that any antics she’s in don’t hamper her potential for great material.

Still, her aloof and often sassy attitude can result in just as many grievances as they can in funny moments. When Doja flipped off the camera in a pic with fans, she inspired as many laughs as criticisms. Either way you slice it, it’s hard to glue your eyes off the screen when all the colors you see become Scarlet on this tour. For more news and the latest updates on Doja Cat, stay posted on HNHH.

Doja Cat’s Erratic Behavior On IG Live Sparks Concern From Fans

Doja Cat’s latest Instagram Live post has fans concerned as a clip from the stream has been circulating on social media in which she acts erratically. “It’s taking everything in me to not take off my fucking clothes right now,” Doja says in the video while repeatedly slamming her hand on the couch.

When TheNeighborhoodTalk shared the post, one fan commented: “Are we going to keep pretending like she’s ok? She’s clearly not ok.” Another wrote similarly: “Are we watching her lose her mind in real time or am I just too old for this type of propaganda.” Not all users were worried about Doja. One, in particular, defended the Scarlet rapper: “Y’all pick and choose cause The Queen can just sit on live and read comments and y’all would swear she high on Coke and live in a crack house but everybody else can do stuff like this and it’s normal.”
