POWERADE Welcomes Flau’Jae Johnson and Isaiah Collier as Newest Athlete Partners

On Jan. 17th, POWERADE proudly announced the addition of college basketball standouts Flau’Jae Johnson from Louisiana State University (LSU) and Isaiah Collier from the University of Southern California (USC) to its roster of athlete partners.

Flau’Jae and Isaiah join an impressive lineup of athletes associated with POWERADE through the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) initiative. This includes highly rated 2024 NFL Draft prospects such as LSU Tigers QB Jayden Daniels and FSU Seminoles DE Jared Verse, along with UGA Bulldogs QB Malaki Starks, USC Trojans WR Mario Williams, and Iowa Hawkeyes RB Kalen Johnson.

In addition to individual athlete partnerships, POWERADE serves as the Official Hydration Partner for over 20 college programs, including LSU and USC.

Flau’Jae and Isaiah will feature prominently in upcoming national marketing campaigns, retail and sponsorship events, OOH advertising, and digital and social media activations. Both athletes, at 20 and 19 years old, respectively, bring impressive accolades, with Flau’Jae named SEC Freshman of the Year in 2023 and Isaiah honored as the 2023 McDonald’s All-American Game MVP.

These partnerships follow POWERADE’s recent introduction of an all-new formula and packaging in 2023, delivering a great-tasting formula with 50% more electrolytes than the Gatorade Thirst Quencher.

Ja Morant Suspension Makes NLE Choppa Lose His Powerade Deal

Ja Morant’s suspension bled over into many aspects of the entertainment world, including a Powerade ad with NLE Choppa. Not only was the ad featuring Morant itself pulled, but Choppa’s new track “Mo Up Front” was meant to be used as its soundtrack. Following the Grizzlies player’s gun-flashing incident, though, it seems like both lost their chance at the bag. Of course, it’s beyond NLE’s control, which is unfortunate considering that he’s not a massive commercial star when compared to other ad-frequenting artists. This could’ve really boosted his profile and brand, although he’ll likely have more opportunities like this in the future.

Moreover, TMZ reported the news and heard from sources close to their camps that the ad was part of Ja and Powerade’s “What 50% More Means” campaign. In addition, the ad highlighted March Madness in the NCAA. After the basketball star’s suspension and subsequent investigations, such plans fell through. However, TMZ‘s sources reported that the two are still good friends, have a good rapport, and maintain a relationship. After all, the Memphis rapper walked the Grizzlies out for their opening home game, so his fandom runs deep.

NLE Choppa Loses Powerade Spot With Ja Morant

In fact, the “Shotta Flow” MC will participate in the team’s celebrity basketball game on Monday (March 20). Not only should it be a fun and celebratory occasion, but it will also benefit St. Jude’s Hospital. On the musical end of things, the artist will give fans a lot of heat very soon. Apparently, his upcoming track with Lil Wayne drops next week, titled “Ain’t Gonna Answer.” What’s more is that it’ll be the last (or one of the last) singles before the April release of his next album Cottonwood 2.

Meanwhile, Morant’s situation also prompted the Memphis NBA team to change their travel protocols for the sake of the players. It seems like the team at large often got into trouble at the road. Furthermore, its players will not be allowed to stay overnight at cities they travel to. Instead, they must hit the road immediately after a game to their next destination. Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments below and return to HNHH for the latest on NLE Choppa and Ja Morant.

Coca-Cola Pulls Ja Morant’s Powerade Ads Amid Suspension

Coca-Cola has reportedly pulled its Powerade advertisements featuring Ja Morant after the Memphis Grizzlies’ star displayed a gun on Instagram Live while in a strip club. According to The Drum, the company has made ads featuring Morant private on its social platforms. The Grizzlies have also suspended Morant indefinitely. Glendale police have said there is not enough evidence to pursue criminal charges against Morant for the incident.

While the Grizzlies haven’t given an exact return date for Morant, they’ve said he’s going to miss at least six games. This would put him on track to come back on March 17 in San Antonio. Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins provided an update on the 23-year-old’s timeline on Thursday.

“We have had conversations in the past trying to guide him and help him continue to evolve as a person and a player,” Jenkins said. “Obviously, this came to a head the other day, so we put this process into action.” He added: “There are definitely steps that are going to have to be met — personally and professionally — as he deals with some stuff personally to get better.”

Quickly after the incident, Morant released an apology for his behavior. “I take full responsibility for my actions last night,” the statement read. “I’m sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis and the entire Grizzlies organization for letting you down. I’m going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being.”

While Coca-Cola appears to be backing away from Morant, one of his other biggest sponsors, Nike, has already released a statement in support of the young star. “We appreciate Ja’s accountability and that he is taking the time to get the help he needs. We support his prioritization of his well-being,” the company said, according to ESPN.
