Post Malone Says Shrooms Have ‘Really Affected’ His Short-Term Memory After ‘A Stint Of Habitual Overuse’

Post Malone sometimes makes questionable decisions. The “Better Now” singer drank beer from a fan’s shoe in Australia. He once said he smokes up to 80 cigarettes a day.

On Wednesday (July 26), he engaged in a conversation with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe ahead of his new album Austin and revealed a habit that did not end well for him. “Yeah, I take shrooms,” he said. “I like shrooms. I like shrooms. Not as much as I used to. It’s really affected my short-term memory. Maybe it was just a stint of habitual overuse. Daily. But now I take a little bar of chocolate with my buddies, a little square chocolate and just laugh and laugh and laugh.”

He added, “I was talking to a ranger buddy of mine. He was a ranger and he was saying they’re giving it to guys for PTSD and stuff. And I was like, ‘Oh, that’s cool,’ because a lot of the times, a lot of pharmaceuticals, they have negative reactions often.”

“And it’s cool to see that they’re giving them this medicine and it’s actually working,” he said. “He was saying his buddy was going through it and it really helped him a lot. I don’t know. It’s interesting because it’s improved. It has improved my view on things.”

Post Malone Details the Process of Creating His New Album 'Austin'

Post Malone is getting ready to release his new album Austin. Ahead of the release, Post Malone sat with Zane Lowe to discuss the album, specifically the recording process.

“It was so fun, I tell you, to play guitar on every song,” Post revealed. “I don’t know necessarily if I’ve been waiting to make it. It’s always something that’s kind of been wanted to be made, if that makes sense. I don’t know. A lot of the times we go in and we do the music and the melody has never really been

“The way that I work it, the music and the melody has never been written at the same time. It’s usually there’s music there and then the melody comes after. But with that, just being able to sit there, like I said, reverb cross-legged here over in, I think Studio D… with the cans on and so much reverb…You know what I mean? And so it’s really cool and it was a really eye-opening experience for me and how I could write music and how I could make music. And it’s not just one way. There’s so many different ways, like you said. It’s just a song is there, you just got to find it.”

Post Malone also noted that the music he listened to as a child influenced the influence. Those artists were Radiohead, Stevie Wonder, and FleetwoodMac.

This edition of Post Malone is different from the past version as he is operating as a family man, no longer a rock star. During the conversation with Lowe, Malone detailed how he works on his time management.

“I don’t know, it’s just the schedule keeps getting,” Malone said. “I find the more that the world opens back up and everybody’s going on tour and everybody’s doing stuff, which makes a lot of sense, but the schedule just keeps getting fuller. And now that I’m a dad, the schedule only got more full.

“And now that releasing new music, schedule gets fuller and fuller and fuller. But the one thing that’s constant is the amount of time in a day and then the amount of time before we go on tour again or the amount of time before…I’m definitely more tired. Which I was always tired before, but now I’m more tired.”

Post Malone’s New Album ‘Austin’: Everything We Know So Far

As difficult as it may be to believe, Post Malone is four albums deep into his artistry, with another one on the way. The rapper’s forthcoming project, Austin, will hit streaming platforms at the end of the week. Through a series of social media posts, Malone promised that this release is not going to be like anything fans have heard thus far from him, as he’s a completely different person than when he entered the industry.

In a note uploaded to Instagram, the musician shared a note to fans about the project. “This whole deal has been one of the most challenging, rewarding, and exciting records I’ve worked on. I feel it captures who I am as a man and as an artist in this moment. thank y’all so much for your patience, and thank you for being there with me in my hardest times. A major theme of Post Malone’s album, Austin, is finding pockets of peace in his, at times, chaotic professional life. The project’s official artwork is a reflection of that as the entertainer enjoys a tranquil poolside moment.

A Swear-Averse Post Malone Fan Once Gave Him A Multi-Page Document Of Clean Words To Replace His Profanity

While Post Malone isn’t known as an especially profane artist, he does work some salty language into his music on a somewhat regular basis, which was a point of contention for a fan he met one time.

In a new video from the YouTube channel Mythical Kitchen (an offshoot of Rhett & Link’s Good Mythical Morning channel), Posty and host Josh Scherer ate several dishes that the rapper chose for his theoretical final meal. As they feasted, they discussed a number of topics and at one point (at 17:04 into the video), Scherer asked if Malone has adapted to “the Mormon way of speaking” since he’d lived in Utah. That prompted a funny anecdote:

“I was staying at a place called Morgan. […] We would go there and ride ATVs and stuff and […] some mom was like, ‘Hey, we really like your music, we don’t like the cuss words that much, but here’s a list of words you can use instead.’ And it was like a four-page, double-sided list of words. It was full of things like ‘phooey, ‘fiddlesticks.’”

Elsewhere during the chat (21:28), he spoke about how he sees his eventual future in music, saying, “I think it’s always gonna be… I’m always gonna write stuff, you know. Whether it gets released is a whole different thing, but I think at a certain point, I’ll just get old and I’ll make songs, and then at that point, no one will be listening to me, so I can make, like, I always talk about acid polka. I’m working on an acid polka album.”

Later (32:19), he noted that when it comes to a song he’d want played at his funeral, he joked about “Little Drummer Boy” before giving his real answer: “But actually, it’d probably be Fleet Foxes something.”

Post Malone Took Times Square By Storm To Surprise Fans With A Special Live Show Of His Biggest Hits

Yesterday, Post Malone surprised Times Square passersby by doing a free performance — the first person to play on the TSX Stage around dinnertime. Malone kicked off the set by playing his recent song, “Overdrive,” and shared some words with those who stopped to watch.

“I’m so happy the rain cleared up so we can hang out, ladies and gentlemen,” Malone said. “I just wanted to say to everybody who came to hang out I’m so grateful and so very honored to be kicking this off. This is the coolest venue in the f*cking universe. I’m super nervous and super happy you guys came out.”

“I’m the first guy to do this, and I was super terrified because I know everyone has a busy day and a busy schedule,” he added. “I have a new album coming out later this month and I’m super excited to play you something off the new record that hasn’t been released yet. Hopefully, I don’t f*ck it up.”

He went on to play “Everything Is Enough,” according to Billboard, which will be on his upcoming album, Austin. During the rest of the performance, Malone treated the crowd to his other hits, like “Rockstar” and “Congratulations.”

Malone was also spotted holding his special collaborative cup with Raising Canes (a chicken chain restaurant), who also recently opened up a flagship store in Times Square.

Post Malone Goes Into ‘Overdrive’ On His New Single

We are just two weeks away from Post Malone‘s upcoming fifth album, Austin. Ahead of the album, he has dropped “Overdrive,” his reflective new song.

On “Overdrive,” Malone looks back throughout his career and imagines how he would make things easier for himself and his family.

“I spend my nights on overdrive / I live my life so uninspired / There ain’t no angels in this world / So I live my life on overdrive,” he sings, over a sobering percussive instrumental.

Austin is shaping up to be Malone’s most personal record yet, as his songs have offered introspective looks into his life. The lead single, “Chemical,” features him detailing his struggles with mental illness. “Mourning” delivers poignant and heartbreaking accounts of alcoholism. It is worth noting that none of the songs on the album’s revealed tracklist contain any features.

The past year has been a big one for Malone, as he welcomed a baby girl, performed on tour after sustaining injuries, and even opened an all-pink Raising Cane’s store in Utah. This past Earth Day, he interviewed a group of astronauts at the International Space Station.

Fans are looking forward to hearing Malone’s guitar-driven Austin later this month, and getting a glimpse into his journey.

You can listen to “Overdrive” above.

Post Malone is pulling back the layers on his forthcoming album Austin. Hitting Instagram, Post Malone shared the album’s tracklist.

“My new record AUSTIN has 17 songs and drops July 28th 🍻💕,” Posty wrote. “Here’s a snippet of one of em. I love you!!!”

The song featured on the Instagram post was “Something Real.”

Previously, Post Malone released his new single “Mourning.” The drop comes via Mercury Records/Republic Records.

The banging new single brings a melodic flow to the spry energy of the beat, capturing everything Post Malone has to say that doesn’t “fit in the chorus.”
