The Weeknd’s “Out Of Time”: Refreshing Our Memory Amid The Conclusion Of This Final Trilogy

These last two weeks have been an exciting stretch for The Weeknd’s fans. After leaving off with Dawn FM back in January of 2022, Abel would tweet out “I wonder. Did you know you’re experiencing a new trilogy?”. He shared that message shortly after his fifth studio album was released to the public and we can remember the hype levels rising. Right now, though, they are shooting up again after three cryptic teaser trailers revealing what’s in store for this final third. The most recent one titled “Unprepared certainty…” has numerous unreleased tracks playing throughout, giving us still a pretty blurry look into the future. Because of this, we are going back to The Weeknd’s last project and one track we are replaying quite a bit is “Out of Time”.

We will tell you this is for science, but it’s mostly because this track is so damn good. The production on this song is arguably the best on the entire album. Abel, Max Martin, Oscar Holter, and Oneohtrix Point Never, all did an amazing magic job incorporating the dreamy sample from the 1980’s a Japanese pop classic “Midnight Pretenders”. The Weeknd glides over this instrumental, as he gets real about the mistakes he’s made in the past and how his willingness to change is too late to save his relationship. It’s beautiful heartbreaking anthem and one that still captures our ears to this day. We hope he’s able to work some more of these types of sonics into a supposed melding of his ideas from Dawn FM and After Hours.

Kaytranada Updates The Weeknd’s ‘Out Of Time’ With An Infectious And Groovy Remix

It’s been a few months since The Weeknd dropped his sixth album Dawn FM, and since then the project is still one of this year’s best releases. He’s promoted the project with a few videos and he’s set to bring Dawn FM and other songs from his discography to different corners of the United States and Canada through his After Hours Til Dawn Tour with Doja Cat. Fresh off his performance as a headliner at last weekend’s Coachella Festival, The Weeknd teams up with Kaytranada for a new remix to one of the most popular songs fromDawn FM.

Kaytranada, known for his groovy and spirited production, breathes new life into The Weeknd’s “Out Of Time” with a new take. Through his remix, Kaytranada speeds up the tempo on the track, which originally arrived as a lovelorn and slow-paced effort, thus granting listeners a new record to dance to. The remix arrives after The Weeknd teamed up with Jim Carrey and Squid Game star Jung Ho-yeon in his video for “Out Of Time.”

On a more recent note, The Weeknd caused some eyebrows to raise when he played an apology voicemail at Coachella, which many people believed was from his ex Bella Hadid. As for Kaytranada, the new remix comes after he teamed up with IDK for their record, “Taco.”

IDK is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

The Weeknd Just Put Out An ‘Out of Time’ Single On A Playable Saw Blade

The marketing cycle for an album in 2022 sure has changed a lot. Take The Weeknd’s Dawn FM, which has already seen an Amazon special, an alternate version album, NFT collectibles in conjunction with Tom Brady, Jim Carrey, mysterious phone numbers, and a highly-anticipated tour with Doja Cat. So the next logical step for The Weeknd is… a limited edition vinyl record that’s actually on a playable Skil saw blade. Why not?

The Weeknd has indeed announced just that. The new very limited edition 12″ single of “Out Of Time” is being released on a saw blade. The drop even has its own website called winylblade.com and it’s all a collaboration with Brooklyn-based viral marketing/design company MSCHF — the same people behind Lil Nas X’s “Satan shoes” with a drop of human blood in them.

“The record grooves are engraved into a copper band via direct metal mastering, which is then inset in the saw blade body,” a release for the drop says. “The blade itself is a carbide-tipped 12″ combo blade–for both rips and crosscuts–with powder-coated color and graphics.”

There are only 25 copies of the “Out Of Time” vinyl blade, which is up for auction on the website for the next 24 hours starting at a cool $1,000. This has big Nipsey Hussle $100 mixtape vibes. But who else can claim that you can build a house with their music besides The Weeknd? Genius.

The Weeknd Recruits Jim Carrey And ‘Squid Game’ Star Jung Ho-yeon For His ‘Out Of Time’ Video

In recent days, The Weeknd has been teasing that his new video for “Out Of Time” would be dropping soon, and it turns out “soon” is today, as the clip premiered this morning.

In it, he stars alongside Jung Ho-yeon, who is best known for her recent role as Kang Sae-byeok in Squid Game. In the clip, the pair enjoy some time together by singing “Out Of Time” on karaoke and hanging out in a hotel. Thinks take an odd twist towards the end, though, and that’s when Jim Carrey, whose voice was already featured on the song, pops up.

Ahead of the release of Dawn FM, Carrey offered his thoughts on the album, tweeting, :I listened to Dawn FM with my good friend Abel @theweeknd last night. It was deep and elegant and it danced me around the room. I’m thrilled to play a part in his symphony. ;^•.” The Weeknd shared the tweet and added, “Thank you for being a part of this. It’s kismet. Full circle [single tear emoji].”

Meanwhile, The Weeknd as we know him might be gone soon, in that he may be considering changing his name, as he tweeted, “I feel like i should change my stage name to ABEL at this point lol. Maybe pull a YE and just legally change my name to ABEL. no last name. Like Madonna or Cher or Prince.”
