Jaylen Brown Makes His Rap Debut Alongside FERG With ‘Just Do It’

Seeing the words “Just Do It” in such close proximity to the name Jaylen Brown might make you think Nike is somehow getting involved with the Celtics guard — aside from allegedly keeping him off Team USA, that is. But no, it’s actually the title of Brown’s first-ever rap single, which features former ASAP Mob member FERG, a smooth, laid-back beat, and some astute wordplay from the Adidas athlete.

The video for the new song opens with Brown sitting alone in a hotel, watching the 24-hour news cycle speculate about his supposed feud with the almighty Swoosh. The song starts, but is quickly interrupted by the arrival of FERG, who offers some criticism and something in a briefcase that’s “guaranteed to shift your energy.” It turns out to be some sort of tech wearable which Brown dons after some initial protests (“why is it glowing?”), changing the video from black-and-white to vivid color. The two entertainers then hit the town, getting Jaylen to shake off his funk.

As far as NBA rappers go, Brown turns out to be solid, although far less electrifying than he is on-court — or even in, say, a championship parade (what’s up with hooper-rappers all using that same ultra monotone flow… let’s hear some emotion, fellas! Look at how Flau’jae does it!).

You can check out Jaylen’s on the mic talent for yourself above.

Longtime Sneakerhead Wale Finally Got An Official Collab With Nike For A DMV Staple

Maryland native Wale has long been one of hip-hop’s most well-known sneakerheads. His breakout 2007, “Nike Boots,” was an ode to one of his beloved DMV Area’s favorite footwear staples, he’s got one of the largest, most renowned sneaker collections of just about anyone in hip-hop, and he’s had a couple of high-profile collabs with athletic shoe brands like Asics and Saucony. But despite all this, somehow, he’s never actually gotten to do an official team-up with the biggest sneaker brand of all, Nike. Until now.

Wale and Nike just announced their first-ever collab, the Nike Air Foamposite One in a “DMV Cherry Blossom” colorway, with a poetic trailer narrated by Wale and showcasing some of the other hallmarks of Capital City culture such as mumbo sauce and streetball. The sneakers, which the DMV has wholeheartedly embraced since their debut in the late 1990s, will be available at select locations throughout the DC/Maryland/Virginia area beginning on August 23. They are the second pair of Foams to pay tribute to the region’s everlasting love of the silhouette popularized by Orlando Magic point guard Penny Hardaway.

Meanwhile, the former Uproxx cover star recently announced his next album, Every Blue Moon alongside, dates for its accompanying tour. See below for more info regarding the release of the DMV Cherry Blossom Nike Air Foamposite One.

Nike Unveils “Electric Pack” with Bold New Colorway

Nike Unveils “Electric Pack” with Bold New Colorway

Nike is electrifying its performance footwear lineup with the release of the “Electric Pack,” a striking new colorway set to drop on July 24. The Electric Pack, which combines the iconic Ostrich print with Total Orange, celebrates Nike’s legacy of creating unforgettable sports moments.

Caroline Abero, Sr. Director of Women’s Footwear and Apparel at Nike, led the design for this bold collection. Abero and her team aimed to capture Nike’s signature attitude—bold, fearless, and irreverent. The Electric Pack features a unique blend of Ostrich print, originally introduced by legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield on the Air Safari in 1987, and Total Orange, a vibrant performance color.

“We wanted to take something you wouldn’t think about in the context of performance — the Safari pattern — and create an artifact that signaled this new era of sport,” says Abero. “We’re bringing sport and culture together on the playing field and creating a new look of sport for the next generation.”

The Ostrich print’s story is as distinctive as its design. In the ’80s, Hatfield encountered a luxurious ostrich-print couch in New York City’s SoHo. Inspired by its organic, textured look, Hatfield sought to merge this non-athletic aesthetic with performance footwear, creating a groundbreaking fusion of high fashion and athletic function.

The Electric Pack will be available across 55 select performance models on nike.com, showcasing a dynamic intersection of Nike’s athletic innovation and bold design.

He eventually revealed they were from his Nike-backed brand NOCTA; the shoes in question were the NOCTA x Nike Hot Step 2.

Nearly a year later, the shoes made their retail debut via the SNKRS app as a “Shock Drop” in the “Total Orange” colorway. They quickly sold out, but if you missed out on them the first time, there’s good news: The “Total Orange” Hot Step 2 is returning to SNKRS on April 4. They’ll be available on NOCTA.com on April 3.
