Chance The Rapper Threatens To Scrap “Star Line” Project

Fans are eager for Chance the Rapper to deliver Star Line. However, there constant and specific nagging could be ruining things for everyone else. According to AllHipHop, the Chicago, Illinois multi-talent went on Instagram Live to explain what he’s wanting from his supporters during the project’s rollout. He understands a lot of people are excited for it, but he also wants everyone to respect what Star Line means to him. He essentially describes it as more than an album and that its going to be something totally unique compared to what other artists in his lane are doing.

He begins his address, saying, “All right, so this was the main point I was trying to make. Stop calling it the album. And I don’t mean that in an ungrateful way. I’m grateful that people are putting in my comments, ‘Drop the album’. I’m not going to drop the album until y’all start calling it Star Line“. He continues, “I’m not going to drop the project. I got so much s*** ready. But I hope that y’all understand that. I understand how all this stuff works. ‘Drop the album.’ That’s for all the other artists. That’s for all everybody else, whose work I also appreciate. But what I’m doing is something different. It’s something very specific. It’s called Star Line“.

On top of this, Chance also wants fans to refer to it as such due to how long he’s been teasing this record. “I’ve been saying one specific phrase for coming up on two or three years now. I’ve been saying Star Line. You see the star, n****’s asleep, but he got the star on his shoulders. He carrying it”. Not only does this irk the rapper, it also confuses him. “It confuses me. It makes me think that everybody doesn’t [know what’s going on]”. So, the one thing that will encourage him to keep going forward with the rollout and eventually drop is to properly acknowledge it by calling it Star Line. “If y’all say he drop Star Line enough, it’s going to make me drop Star Line… I don’t know what the album is. I know about a Star Line, you hear me? And that’s on everything”.

What are your thoughts on Chance the Rapper threatening to toss his Star Line LP? Do you think his fanbase will abide by his request? When do you see the Chicago native releasing this tape? Is this still one of your most anticipated releases of the year/in general? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. MAVI Is Cautiously Optimistic On Third Album “Shadowbox”

If you have not been paying attention to MAVI, you should. The 24-year-old from Charlotte has been turning heads ever since releasing his debut album Let The Sun Talk in 2019. Since then, he’s collaborated with Earl Sweatshirt, The Alchemist, MIKE, and others, honing his craft and learning how to stand out in the lane he operates in. He followed Let The Sun Talk with Laughing So Hard, It Hurts in 2022, an introspective and melancholic album. He talked about his pain, both individually and as it pertains to his family. MAVI referred to it as a “heartbreak album” after a fan asked if he made a breakup album. His third LP, shadowbox, is a similarly detailed self-reflection.

shadowbox covers themes of growth, family, substance abuse, religion, and other heavy topics. The production is soulful, going from dark to more light sounds across the album. Monte Booker, TwoTone, and Beach Noise are among the names who handled the beats on this album. Where Laughing So Hard, It Hurts was largely pessimistic, shadowbox comes with a more cautious optimism. He recognizes his flaws and wants to be the best he can be. It’s a noticeable change from his previous work, where it sounded like he resigned himself to being another victim in an endless cycle of pain. The result is some of his strongest rapping to date. shadowbox features one guest, R&B singer and former American Idol contestant, Malaya. Malaya is a frequent collaborator with jazz titan and hip-hop producer Terrace Martin. She recently featured on MESSIAH!’s latest album, the villain wins, which MAVI also appeared on. At 14 songs and 34 minutes, shadowbox is worth every second of your time. Stream the new album below.

Kanye West & Ty Dolla Sign’s “Vultures 2” First Week Sales Are In

Last weekend, Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign finally unleashed their eagerly anticipated collaborative album, Vultures 2. The album was released by surprise and arrived following plenty of delays. It’s since earned mixed reactions from listeners. While many are impressed, others feel as though it left a lot to be desired, and wasn’t necessarily worth the wait.

On Wednesday, Chart Data reported that the album was on track to move 68K units in its first week. While that’s certainly no small feat, the number is fairly low for Ye. In fact, it would mark only the second time he’s released an album that didn’t top the Billboard 200. It was expected to debut at No. 2 instead, just behind Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department.

Now, the first week sales are officially in, and they’ve exceeded expectations. According to HipHop-N-More, Vultures 2 has moved 107k album-equivalent units in its first week, with 60k coming from pure sales. Of course, this number is still pretty low compared to the first-week sales figures of albums like Jesus Is King or Donda. It looks like Ye might have bigger things to worry about these days, however.

Last week, his former Chief of Staff Milo Yiannopoulos accused Ye’s dentist of fueling his alleged nitrous addiction, leaving fans incredibly concerned. #SaveYe even began trending on X, though he’s yet to address the shocking claims. What do you think of Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s new album selling 107K units in its first week? Are you surprised they exceeded expectations? Latto’s Giant Inflatable Booty Greets Guests At Album Release Party

Last week, Latto finally dropped her eagerly anticipated third studio LP, Sugar Honey Iced Tea. So far, the project has been a tremendous success. It’s even earned the Atlanta MC her very first No. 1 on the Apple Music album chart. Listeners agree that it was worth the wait, and puts her growth as an artist on full display. Evidently, however, bars aren’t the only thing Latto’s shown off as of late.

To celebrate the arrival of her new album, Latto hosted a release party in her hometown on Friday night. Before attendees even walked into Cascade, they were greeted by a huge inflatable version of her backside, cheetah print panties and all. She shared various photos and clips from the evening on Instagram last night, leaving her followers in awe.

Latto Celebrates The Release Of Sugar Honey Iced Tea

Inside the event, Latto rocked a pair of Apple Bottom jeans with a bright red halter top and sneakers, inspired by New New from ATL. She even paid tribute to the iconic character by recreating some of her most memorable moments. The “Big Mama” performer was joined by countless supporters and peers, including Yung Miami, Saucy Santana, Mariah The Scientist, and more. Of course, fans are praising Latto for her creativity, and for leaning into things haters have clowned her for in the past.

“I like how she takes the weird ish haters say about her and put it on wax and in her looks,” one fan writes. “I know leopard print hates to see Latto coming,” another jokes. Asake Aims To Give Listeners A Clearer Picture Of Who He Is On “Lungu Boy”

Asake, one of Lagos, Nigeria’s brightest stars, is here with probably his biggest album of his early career. This weekend, he delivered his highly anticipated third studio effort, Lungu Boy. Why we feel this is such an important release for the 29-year-old singer and songwriter is based on an interview with Apple Music. “Lungu Boy explains my early beginnings in music and how it shaped me into the person I am becoming”, he explains. “The English word is ‘ghetto’. As you can tell from the choice of collaborations, Lungu Boy is my heritage and culture to the rest of the world”. Speaking of those, Travis Scott, Wizkid, Central Cee, Stormzy, and LUDMILLA all appear within the 15 tracks.

In terms of the soundscapes, you are getting some smoother amapiano cuts, lively bangers, and everything in between. It truly is a melting pot of tones for Asake and something he was also looking to accomplish with Lungu Boy. “It’s a new field. I refuse to limit myself and strive to share my African heritage with the world through a blend that goes beyond just a sound”. Furthermore, Asake adds, “Consistency and exposure lead to growth”. Leading up to the release, he gave us the album’s biggest collaborations to chew on. “Active” with La Flame remains to be one of the LP’s catchiest and high-energy moments and “Wave” with Cench is equally as intoxicating. Be sure to give the future superstar’s effort a try with the links down below.

Ravyn Lenae Lets The Experimentation Run Free On “Bird’s Eye”

Ravyn Lenae is showing that she’s willing to take chances on her sophomore album Bird’s Eye. This is her follow-up to her 2022 debut HYPNOS, and one that’s been led by some pretty great promotional tracks. The 25-year-old hypnotist from Chicago got the rollout started back in early May with her “Love Me Not / Love Is Blind” twofer offering up starkly different takes on R&B. One would say that it was great indication that Ravyn was working on trying new sounds. Then, about a month later, she would return with first-time collaborator Ty Dolla $ign on “Dream Girl”, a slick and dreamy cut about allowing yourself to fall for someone.

Finally, we would get “One Wish” with Childish Gambino, arguably the best and easily the most vulnerable track on the record. Here, Ravyn wrestles with her complicated relationship with her father. “Called me on my birthday / I thought you’d be on your way, oh / Candles burned down to the cake / Still not seeing your faceI can’t forgеt you / And I can’t hate you / No matter how hard I try“. On top of these, there’s still an even more vast soundscape to be had across Bird’s Eye. The closing “Days” presents a country/acoustic vibe to wind down to on the summer nights. “Candy” delivers more a smooth and wavy reggae vibe. Furthermore, we get hints of some early 2000s late 90’s R&B on “From Scratch”, especially instrumentally. Ravyn’s beats, writing, and vocals make for a more than memorable listen in the R&B genre this year.

Latto Celebrates Earning Her First Apple Music No. 1 With “Sugar Honey Iced Tea”

Yesterday, Latto unleashed her third studio album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea. So far, the project has been well-received, with many calling it her best work yet. She’s even been dubbed the “female Drake,” as fans note similarities between their sounds. As fans continue to sound off about the project on social media, Latto has taken to X to celebrate her success.

The Atlanta hitmaker replied to a post by Chart Data, which announced that the album has earned her a No. 1 spot on the Apple Music album chart for the first time in her career. “Number one, we did it yo!” she shouts in a clip, popping a bottle of champagne. Fans certainly can’t blame Latto for being excited, especially considering all the praise she’s receiving online.

Latto Pops A Bottle Amid New Album Success

Amid the flood of compliments, however, some listeners have taken the opportunity to point out some apparent jabs on the album. Fans think she took a shot at Ice Spice on “S/O To Me,” for example, with the line “Ice is just water when it melts.” This is no surprise considering the two femcees have been dissing each other for a while. Nicki Minaj, Coi Leray, and more are also suspected to be on the receiving end of some shade.

While listeners still have plenty to digest following the release of Latto’s album, it’s not the only new music they’ve heard from her as of late. Drake also took fans by surprise by delivering 100 gigabytes of previously unreleased material earlier this week. This included a track featuring Latto, “Housekeeping Knows,” which is part of a 100 GIGS three-pack that just hit streaming services today. What do you think of Latto’s new album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea? What about her going No. 1 on the Apple Music album chart for the first time in her career? Larry June Provides Immaculate Vibes On New Album “Doing It For Me”

Larry June is the most relaxed man in hip-hop. He’s inherited the crown from Curren$y, who shares June’s affinity for smoked-out Alchemist production. The thing that distinguishes June, though, is his specificity. The rapper’s verses are packed with references to the Bay Area, designer brands, and the experiences that made him who he is today. Boring topics in the wrong hands, but Larry June has an innate feel for what sounds good. Doing It for Me is a showcase for the rapper to show what he can do without having to rely on others. Like the titular “me” suggests, the album is a solo venture, with zero guest features.

“Magnum P.I.” is the perfect thesis for the album. The production is hazy and nostalgic, while Larry June waxes poetic over his teenage escapades. “Morning Calculations” is even better. Built around a hypnotic vocal sample, the song gives the rapper a chance to reflect on his rise to stardom. The unison of topics and song titles cannot be overstated here. Every track on Doing It for Me sounds like a manifestation of its title. “Stinson Beach” pushes things in a jazzy direction courtesy of flute samples and a chorus that showcases Larry June’s surprisingly decent singing voice. “Breakfast In Gold Coast” is one of the best songs the rapper has ever released. The beat, the bars, and the aesthetic details (the sounds of rain at the very end) compress the June experience into a two and a half minute masterclass. Doing It for Me is really for all of us.

Chloe Enlists Ty Dolla $ign, Anderson .Paak, Sister Halle & More For Sophomore Effort “Trouble In Paradise”

The lead up to Chloe Bailey’s new album Trouble In Paradise has been one of pessimism on the listeners’ side. One of half of the Atlanta R&B duo Chloe x Halle was being bombarded with flop predictions due to what critics feel was not enough promotion. However, the 26-year-old songstress has been taking the doubts in stride and with confidence, something that this album has plenty of. This follows up her debut from just over a year ago, In Pieces. Just looking at each of the projects on tracklists alone, you can see that Chloe feels she can work alongside some more established names in her field. Those include Ty Dolla $ign, Jeremih, and Anderson .Paak.

We’d say that Chloe does more than enough to hold her own on these collaborations from Trouble In Paradise. What also is showing confidence in her skills are the production choices. This 16-song set features many subsets of R&B such as contemporary, Afrobeats, and pop. What also sets this LP apart from its predecessor are Chloe’s dynamic and showstopping vocal performances. The range she puts on display is quite amazing and great examples of this include “Same Lingerie”, “Rose”, “Might As Well”, and the intro, “All I Got (Free Falling)”. Chloe told the haters she feels she can never flop because she’s making music she loves. That is apparent here and we would say it’s more so than ever before.
