Russ Gets Introspective With “Santiago”

Russ gets more vulnerable than ever with his latest project, Santiago. Throughout the 13-track project, the rapper explores his struggles with fame, relationships, family, and more. It features slower tempos and emo-inspired sounds. As Santiago contains no features, fans can concentrate on Russ and his journey. This would be his first project since Chomp 2.5, which he released in May.

The rapper took to Instagram a few months back to announce the project. Russ noted how much the album meant to him and how he had to do some soul-searching for it. “This album represents my mental, spiritual, physical, and emotional journey to my treasure (I talk more about what my treasure is on the album, but it’s symbolized by the pyramid). The journey at times wasn’t and isn’t pretty,” Russ wrote. “I’ve put myself through the ringer and beat myself up quite a bit along the way. The front cover depicts externally what that sort of psychological warfare looks like.”

“Santiago” Symbolizes His Emotional, Mental, and Spiritual Journey, He Says

He continued: “I’m really excited. I’m really nervous. SANTIAGO is my journey to self love & self mastery while touching on the obstacles that have provided resistance along the way…feelings of emptiness, inadequacy, imposter syndrome, doubt, anger, shame (to name a few), and ultimately issues from my childhood that have shown up in my adult life. It’s my attempt to understand, navigate, and heal.”

In other related news, Russ discussed why he views Spotify’s “monthly listeners” stat as misleading. “Sat down with Spotify and got to finally debunk wtf monthly listeners actually means,” he wrote on Twitter. In a subsequent post, Russ stated: “I have 10,000,000 people in my active audience out of my 14m monthly listeners. That’s people who go out of their way to listen to my music. The rest is people who heard it on a playlist or Spotify radio etc.. they weren’t actively tryna hear it. This is why I say the monthly listener number is a facade.”

Ciara Drops Off New “CiCi” EP

Ciara is back and more mature than ever. The Grammy-nominated singer and mother of four has reached a new stage in life. So it makes sense her latest project would reflect that journey. On Friday (August 18), Ciara released her new EP, CiCi. The seven-track project features appearances by Chris Brown, Lil Baby, and Bounce icon Big Freedia.

The project is seemingly paying homage to her relationship with Denver Broncos’ Quarterback Russell Wilson. The pair began dating in 2015 and would eventually marry a year later in England. Prior to that, the singer was in a high-profile relationship with Future. The two broke things off in 2014 after dating for one year. They share one son, Baby Future.

This Is Ciara’s First Project Since 2019

CiCi is the Atlanta singer’s first project since 2019’s Beauty Mark. While the project didn’t perform too well, it did spawn a few singles like “Level Up.” The empowering track even started a viral dance challenge. The single peaked at No.59 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No.23 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In other related news, Ciara’s recent maternity shoot has been catching major attention. It’s been said that the singer possibly drew inspiration from Rihanna. The new mother of two has continued to be as fashionable as ever throughout her recent pregnancies.

The move has seemed to people to have a new way to look at motherhood. “CiCi Mama,” she wrote in a recent Instagram post. Her photo dump begins with a snapshot of her pretending to answer a vintage, red lip-shaped phone. Ciara’s black and blonde hair was styled in two messy ponytails atop her head. She also layered an abundance of necklaces over her chest. Covering her upper half was a groovy, pink, and orange knit sweatshirt. She was brave enough to don baggy jeans in the August heat with a gothic pair of spike-clad boots. Stay tuned to HNHH for more news and updates from around the music world.

CiCi Tracklist:

1. How We Roll by Ciara & Chris Brown
2. BRB
3. Low Key
4. Type A Party
5. Forever by Ciara & Lil Baby
6. 2 In Luv
7. Winning by Ciara & Big Freedia)

Mick Jenkins Excels On New Album “The Patience” With JID, Freddie Gibbs & More

One of Chicago’s finest is back, and Mick Jenkins understood the assignment on his brand new album “The Patience.” Moreover, fans already knew they were getting something special with its lead single, “Smoke Break-Dance” with JID. However, the tracklist still contains a lot of surprises, different emotional pallets, instrumental styles, and consistently great lyrical performances. It’s a concise and no-filler 27 minutes across 11 tracks, and also features Freddie Gibbs, Benny The Butcher, and Vic Mensa. Furthermore, the Alabama-born and Windy City-raised MC explained the concept behind this project in a press release.

The Patience: As best I can be, I am a person who does everything within his power to change his situation,” Mick Jenkins expressed. “I think with some level of consistency, that behavior inevitably leads you to a point where you have to wait. A point where the things that now need to happen to move you forward are no longer in your control. I see this as a period of time in one’s journey, no matter the length, where the unseen things must take place; The muscles must tear and repair, the understanding of a concept coming to you in a moment completely devoid of artistic intention. It’s through these moments where I’ve found myself being the most frustrated with patience. And this body of work sounds like that frustration.”

Meanwhile, this might not be the longest or most dense album, but The Patience packs a big punch in a small swing. There are plenty of small but potent moments like the slow-burning “007,” all featured MCs’ great performances, the trap interlude “2004,” and the stark reflection on the closer. Don’t let this one fall under your radar; it’s one of the most tightly packaged efforts of the year so far. If you haven’t heard this album yet, find it on your preferred streaming service and peep the tracklist below. EST Gee Continues To Level Up On New Project “El Toro 2”

For those who feel like rap music is stale these days, look no further than the latest album from EST Gee. The Louisville native’s proven there’s no ceiling to his creativity with each of his releases and his latest album, El Toro 2 is no exception. The rapper’s latest body of work consists of 20 songs in total with an array of incredible collaborators. Gee calls on the CMG boss Yo Gotti and his labelmate, the incarcerated 42 Dugg, for the tracklist, along with artists like Rylo Rodriguez and Lil Baby. The most surprising feature comes from the late Static Major who appears on “NOBODY ELSE.”

EST Gee’s ear for production, specifically, shines across the project. Frequent collaborator, FOREVEROLLING, leaves his imprint across the tracklist while producers like Tay Keith, Johngotit, Einer Bankz, and Fridayy also contribute to the tracklist. El Toro 2 serves as the sequel to EST Gee’s 2021 project and his second offering of the year following MAD. It’s another impressive opus from one of Louisville’s finest.

EST Gee Delivers On New Album El Toro 2

In the weeks leading up to the release of El Toro 2, EST Gee gave fans promising glimpses of what to expect. First, he provided fans with “TURN THE STREETS UP” in late May, less than three months after releasing MAD. Then, he dropped off the single, “XXL” followed by “A MOMENT WITH GOTTI” ft. Yo Gotti, who also appears on the outro of the project. Overall, EST Gee proves that he’s not slowing down in any capacity.

In addition to his solo efforts, EST Gee has been putting his best foot forward to shine a light on his label, Young Shiners. Between the release of MAD and El Toro 2, he released, Shiners Are Forever, a compilation project highlighting the artists on the Young Shiners roster. At this point, Gee has already established himself as a force to be reckoned with while proving that his ear for talent is just as strong as his ear for top-tier production. Check out El Toro 2 above.

The album title should be recognizable to Boosie fans. It’s named after a track on his third studio album, Bad Azz, released in 2006. Roc Nation & DJ Clue Team Up With PUMA For “Humble Soles” Mixtape For Hip-Hop 50

Roc Nation boasts a lot of talent, a pool of MCs and producers that knows the hip-hop of the past as much as rap today. In addition, they recognize the relationship between streetwear and the genre, and how special it is to celebrate its 50th birthday this week. Moreover, the label just partnered with PUMA to put together the Humble Soles mixtape hosted by the legendary DJ Clue. Of course, with that explanation, it’s no surprise that there’s a whole slew of collaborators here and a lot of glossy, inspired, and sonically powerful tracks.

Furthermore, to go through some of these Roc Nation stars, rappers like Rapsody, Vic Mensa, Reuben Vincent, Kalan.FrFr, and RJAE pop up on this tracklist. In addition, there’s Reuben Vincent, Tay Keith, Huey V, HDBeenDope, Tish Hayman, KenTheMan, Zacari, Guapdad 4000, and many more. Not only that, but everyone here shares some potent moments of chemistry throughout the mixtape, as well as plenty of variety. Some sounds are more old-school, whereas other tracks contain contemporary timbres, but every rapper and producer here seems to tap into inspirational and triumphant pallets.

Ez Mil’s “DU4LI7Y: REDUX” Is A Dense Introduction To The Eminem & Dr. Dre Signee

Ez Mil made the whole rap game turn their heads when Eminem and Dr. Dre signed him to Aftermath, Interscope, and Shady. Moreover, the Filipino-American MC is the first artist to have done so since 50 Cent back in 2002, which already sets up high expectations. Fortunately, if you’re a fan of any of these artists, you’re probably going to like what the first release after his signing, DU4LI7Y: REDUX has to offer. Across 11 tracks, Ez showcases a lot of lyrical dexterity, narrative prowess, catchy melodic writing, and crisp but grounded instrumentals. If you hadn’t heard of this new talent yet, then let this be your first taste of someone that could rise to great heights.

Furthermore, that potential is based on pretty much every aspect of songwriting and production here. In addition, it has the additional cultural component of representing his heritage, switching between rapping in English and Tagalog on songs like “27 Bodies,” and he’s equally as fiery with both. Sometimes, the production plays with more contemporary sounds, whereas others tackle dramatic and impactful boom-bap and more classic sounds. Lyrically, Ez Mil focuses a lot on not just the rap game and his come-up, but also social issues affecting his home country and beyond. With plenty of versatile flows, deliveries, and melodic approaches, the 25-year-old lays the foundation for any style he wants to expand upon.

Meanwhile, it was quite a smart choice to have “Realest” with Eminem come out before this project to build up a lot of hype. While it’s definitely a standout here for the feature alone, it’s not even close to the highest peaks on DU4LI7Y: REDUX. Here’s hoping that we continue to see more greatness from this promising young talent in the future.
