Kodak Black Wants To Mentor Kanye West

During his recent appearance on Drink Champs, Kodak Black was asked whether he’s on “Team Pharrell” or “Team Kanye.” The rapper shared what he likes about each of the artists before ultimately settling on Pharrell. He did say, however, that he believes he could make a difference in Ye’s life. According to Kodak, the controversial performer should reach out, as he might be able to give him some pointers.

“I f*ck with Pharrell. I’m not going to lie, I can call Pharrell and talk about anything. I f*ck with him,” Kodak Black began. “But Kanye [is] Gemini gang.” He went on, revealing that he could have something to offer Ye. “And Kanye, I felt [sic] like I can be his mentor or something,” he explained. “It would be very fruitful for his life. Kanye, when you see [this], holler at me.”

Kodak Black Tells Kanye West To “Holler” At Him

While the 26-year-old’s Drink Champs appearance certainly sparked some interesting conversations, it also sparked some concern among fans and peers. Many note that Kodak Black appeared to be under the influence during the interview, which led them to believe that he’s on a destructive path. Ray J even chimed in, calling on those around Kodak to check him.

“Yo somebody need to grab bro and make sure he good,” he wrote in the comments section of a snippet from the show. “This ain’t the interview Nore. We gotta help this dude. I took him to Trump house and he did the most. They were not happy with the experience bc he had no guidance and respect. Yo @wack100 let’s figure out how we can help this guy instead of watching him self destruct.” Do you think Kodak Black would be a good mentor to Kanye West? Missy Elliott Reveals Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, Diddy, Salt-N-Pepa Mentored Her

Despite being praised as an innovator, Missy Elliott never ceases to pay respect to artists that helped pave the way for her success. The Virginia hitmaker’s classics are imprinted across several genres. Missy is hailed as one of the greatest to ever do it, and in her chat with Forbes, she spoke on the importance of helping the next generation of artists. She came into the industry at a young age and knows what it’s like for rising stars. “There’s nothing like having the support of someone,” said Elliott.

“I had people like Mary J. Blige and Diddy tell me what to do and how to be a go-getter, a hustler, be consistent and be different. Things you need in this industry.” She added, “A lot of times, it’s not as easy as it looks. People only get a chance to see the glitz and glamour and don’t know what it’s like to go through things behind the scenes. So, when you have that mentor, it’s everything, especially someone who has already been on that walk. It’s very important for me to be a big sister to those coming behind me because I had Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Salt-N-Pepa be that to me.”

We saw several pioneers join together for an epic performance at this year’s Grammy Awards. We’re celebrating Hip Hop’s 50th Anniversary, and Missy shared why women in Rap are instrumental in the genre’s success. “Women have played a big part in what we call Hip Hop in this culture,” she said. “These women are my friends, and we don’t just come together when it’s time to perform. We speak on the phone and hang around each other, but I’m never in such a relaxed, comfortable space. I always think about how these are the same women that I looked up to and still do.”

“They have kicked down the doors for all the women you see today in 2023. Even if the women that are out now may not be familiar with all of their records, they have to know that these women are the reason they’re able to be on many of these platforms.” Salt-N-Pepa made Missy “want to be an emcee.” She called them “the whole package” and the main reason Elliott “got into rapping.” Hopefully, more of our favorite artists will continue to mentor aspiring entertainers.

Morray Discusses J. Cole Being A Mentor To Him

Morray says that J. Cole has had him scrap several albums while mentoring him. The Street Sermons rapper reflected on his relationship with Cole during a new interview with HipHopDX.

“I can call Cole right now and he’ll be like, ‘What’s the issue?’ But I gotta be prepared for the answer,” he began. “That’s the thing about Cole, he gon’ give you Cole. But I love that because he’s not afraid to tell you what you don’t wanna hear to make you better.”

He continued: “I’ve presented hella albums, I’ve been ready for an album, don’t get me wrong, I’ve been ready. I’ve presented to Cole, he told me, ‘N***a, you’re not ready.’ Do you know how hard it is to take that from somebody you look up to? I think I’m done and you’re telling me I’m not? Back to the drawing board? But I appreciate him, because this album is staying.”

From there, Morray explained that he’s not showing Cole his newest album. Instead of getting advice, Morray is confident enough that he wants Cole to be surprised by the result when it drops.

“I feel like him being a solid mentor is more than anything,” he further said. “It doesn’t matter if we never do anything else, it don’t matter if no opportunities come with J. Cole, the fact that I can call him and get quick advice, and the fact that you answer the phone… salute, big bro.”

Both rappers hail from Fayetteville, North Carolina. The two first interacted in October 2020, after the release of Morray’s “Quicksand.”
