Kanye West’s Ex Reveals Original Sketches For “The College Dropout” Mascot On Album’s 20th Anniversary

Kanye West is stirring up controversy nowadays, especially over the past year. While he has always been an outspoken individual for or better or worse, we cannot deny his creative vision. But right now, some are having a hard time separating the music from the person. Just ask “the internet’s busiest music nerd” Anthony Fantano. However, before we really got to see the slow downward mental spiral of Ye, many people saw him as a hard-working rapper/producer. From 2003-2004, the Georgia-born talent was working on creating his debut The College Dropout. That means the project is now 20 years old, as well as its creative ideas.

To help remember this incredible record, Kanye’s ex, Alexis Phifer, shared some drawings of the famous bear mascot, according to HipHopDX. The first of the school-themed trio celebrated its 20th anniversary on Saturday, February 10. If you look at the artwork on The College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation, you will notice the mammal in some shape or form. Phifer shared that the inspiration for the bear comes from the luxury clothing brand Ralph Lauren.

Hard To Believe The College Dropout & Its Sketches Are 20

Phifer wrote a long paragraph explaining how this all came to fruition and how she still has them to this day. “With the record label asking him for the ideas he had in mind, Kanye started to sketch out his vision that evening at my house. First, he started with the heads, then the body, then the belt. After he was done and pleased with what he had, he faxed the sketches the next day to the record label.” She continues, “After faxing his final idea, he was about to throw the sketches away! That’s when I asked if I could keep the artwork instead.” Even though they split in 2008, she still shows Kanye and the LP its respect. “[It] is a hip hop classic. It was the beginning of what would mark one of the most influential rapper’s life and legacy.”

What are your thoughts on the original sketches for Kanye West’s The College Dropout bear mascot? Is this his greatest album still, why or why not? Do you still go back to it, and if so what tracks? Is this the most iconic artwork for any hip-hop album? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to tell us in the comments below. Additionally, keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Kanye West. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on around the world of music.

Kanye West’s “College Dropout” Bear Mascot Designer Gets Sweet Thank You From Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s divorce was one of the more messy splits we’ve seen play out in recent years, but somehow, the reality starlet continues to find ways to celebrate her ex and paint him as a hero in the eyes of their four young children. For Halloween this fall, their eldest, North West, paid homage to the Yeezus artist by wearing his famous bear mascot costume while posting TikTok videos dancing along to some of his biggest hits. Besides that, she and her mom also wore costumes of the main characters from Clueless, and Disney classics like The Cheetah Girls and Princess and the Frog were part of the 10-year-old’s festivities as well.

Weeks after her daughter brought The College Dropout look out of retirement, Kardashian is thanking the designer, Bobby Naugle, with a heartfelt message on her Instagram Story about how they initially connected. “[He] designed the beat in 2003 and worked on the tours in the early years handling the merch,” she told her followers on Friday (December 8). “[Bobby] reached out to me in 2022 because he wanted to gift North some of the original merch that he helped produce; he asked for nothing in return.”

Since then, Kardashian and Naugle have remained in touch. “After being approached by a few collectors and auction houses regarding other collectables he owned from 2003-2005, which included first-hand sketches and Kanye’s original personal pink [Ralph Lauren] polo, Bobby felt it be most appropriate to give them to our kids, again, asking for nothing in return,” she further praised the creative. “I would like to publicly thank [him] for his kindness and generosity (it’s very rare in this industry), he could have easily made a lot of money from selling off these items instead.”

If reminiscing on some of the embattled rapper’s iconic looks has you feeling nostalgic, you can curb that by checking out our ranking of the father of four’s best songs from his College Dropout album. Conor McGregor Says Miami Heat Mascot Is Doing “Good”

Game 4 of the 2023 NBA Finals will be remembered for two things. First, there was the result. The Denver Nuggets took a 3-1 series lead on the back of a 13-point victory. Secondly, few will forget how Conor McGregor knocked out the mascot of the Miami Heat while promoting a pain relief spray.

Partway through the third quarter, the UFC veteran came onto the court alongside Burnie, the Heat’s anthropomorphized fireball mascot. Burnie donned novelty boxing gloves before almost immediately being rocked by a 1-2 punch combo from McGregor. As the mascot writhed on the floor, McGregor sprayed him with the pain relief aerosol the stunt had been set up to promote. However, it was later reported that the man inside the mascot costume had been sent to the ER and received pain medication following the incident. McGregor was widely criticized for taking things too far. Furthermore, UFC fighter Belal Muhammad went as far as to claim that “drugs made him think he was in a real fight.”

Conor McGregor Provides Burnie Update

However, things are not as dire as they first appeared, at least according to McGregor. Speaking with the media in New York City, McGregor attempted to settle any doubts, and criticism, about the viral incident in Miami. “The mascot is good. It was a skit, and all is well,” the MMA veteran said. “I spent a lot of time with him afterward, we talked it out, everything is great. It was all part of the show!” Despite McGregor’s assurances, it was likely not the promotion that Tidl Sport Recovery Spray was looking for.

McGregor might want to focus his efforts on the ring to avoid future embarrassment. The 34-year-old fighter is currently serving as a coach on Season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter. However, McGregor’s stable of prospects has so far been no match for Michael Chandler’s stable of more-experienced fighters. The season is expected to end with an as-yet-unannounced bout between McGregor (22-6) and Chandler (23-8). It would be McGregor’s first return to the Octagon since injury sidelined him in 2021. Neither man has a particularly shining record heading into this expected matchup. McGregor is on a two-fight losing streak while Chandler last lost three of his last four. Conor McGregor Sends Heat Mascot To The E.R. After Punching Him At Game 4

Conor McGregor sent the employee who was playing the Miami Heat mascot, “Burnie,” to the hospital during Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday night. The former UFC champion punched the mascot during a skit for the halftime show.

The bit was orchestrated to promote McGregor’s new pain relief spray, which he used on the Mascot after punching him twice. The punches, however, ended up doing serious damage to the man in the Burnie suit. The Heat confirmed that the employee was actually knocked out and hospitalized after the punch. The Athletic reports that the man is doing okay and has since been released with pain medication. McGregor has yet to comment on the situation.

Fans shared plenty of laughs on social media in response to the skit. “That mascot had nudes of his wife or something because that 2nd shot was anger for no reason,” one user tweeted. Another shared a clip from Scarface with the caption, “Mascot talking to his lawyers about to take McGregor to the cleaners.” Others expressed concern for the mascot’s health once news broke that he was actually injured.

McGregor hasn’t fought inside the octagon since injuring his leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. His most recent win came in January 2020 against Donald Cerrone. Check out his two punches on the Heat’s mascot in the clip below.
