Usher & Kelly Rowland React To Lovers & Friends Cancelation: “Just As Disappointed As You Are”

Usher, Kelly Rowland, and more reacted to the news that Lovers & Friends has officially canceled its 2024 event on social media, over the weekend. In a lengthy post on Twitter, Usher expressed his “heartfelt gratitude” for the fans and admitted he’s “just as disappointed” as they are. As for Rowland, she described herself as “gutted” and apologized.

“Mannn…I’m just as disappointed as you are,” Usher wrote. “We were getting ready to turn up and celebrate today. I have to follow the orders of city officials and the National Weather Service for everyone’s protection and stand strong in my belief that everything happens for a reason. I’m sorry we won’t get to see each other today, but know that I am always working on something to express my heartfelt gratitude for each and every one of you who continue to support me. I’ll see you soon.”

As for Kelly Rowland, she wrote on Instagram: “Can’t Lie, I am so gutted that Lovers & Friends is canceled. Apologies to all who came early. And thank you to ALL who supported!” The organizers made the announcement less than 15 hours before the festival’s start time, citing the National Weather Service’s high wind warning. “The National Weather Service has now issued a High Wind Warning, including dangerous 30-35 mph sustained winds with gusts potentially more than 60 mph,” organizers wrote in a statement. “Following advice from the National Weather Service and in consultation with local public officials, we must make the safest decision for our fans, artists, and staff, and cancel tomorrow’s Lovers & Friends Festival.”

Juvenile Is The Latest Artist To Dispute The Lovers & Friends 2024 Lineup, And His Rant Is Glorious

It would appear Lovers & Friends Festival was a little hasty about announcing its 2024 lineup last week. Usher, Janet Jackson, and Backstreet Boys were unveiled as the headliners, but two other prominent artists have since disputed their names being listed on the lineup poster.

Last Thursday, January 25, Mary J. Blige wrote on her Instagram Story that her “inclusion was an error as I will be busy in preparation for my Strength of a Woman Summit just one week later.” On Wednesday, January 31, Juvenile posted an Instagram Reel — and he was, um, much less cordial than Mary J.

“Here we go again, man,” he said. “These cats at Lovers & Friends — whoever in charge of Lovers & Friends, man, y’all doing bad business, man. Y’all done put my name on the flyer, and y’all know you ain’t sent me no deposit, ain’t sent me no bread or nothin’.”

The Cash Money Records rapper continued, “Keep on playing games — talking ’bout y’all gonna get back at me. Look, y’all playing games with the wrong mothaf*cka, man. If y’all gon’ book me, if y’all not gon’ book me, take my mothaf*ckin’ name off y’all flyer. I ain’t got no problem with that. I could do something else with my time. I ain’t trippin’, but don’t put my f*ckin’ name on y’all flyers if y’all know you ain’t paid me no money. That’s f*cked up.”

There’s not really a smooth way to transition out of that, but for those still interested in attending Lovers & Friends 2024 to see whichever artists will perform, the festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds. Find more information here.

Mary J. Blige Will Perform At Lovers & Friends After All

Mary J. Blige will be performing at the Lovers and Friends festival in Las Vegas, this May, after a back and forth between herself and the event organizers over whether she would be present. After the organizers initially listed her on the lineup during their announcement, Blige labeled her inclusion inaccurate in a post on her Instagram Story.

“I am beyond humbled by the response from all of you about the announcement of me on Lovers & Friends Festival,” she wrote. “Unfortunately my inclusion was an error as I will be busy in preparation for my Strength of a Woman Summit just one week later! I have the greatest fans in the world and can’t wait to see you in New York in a few short months!”

Over the weekend, Lovers and Friends once against promoted Blige as a performer at the event on social media. “THE QUEEN OF R&B HERSELF, MARY J BLIGE! we can’t wait to see her perform in vegas @therealmaryjblige,” they captioned a video of her performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show. When fans brought up her denial of being on the lineup in response, the account wrote back: “Yes she will be here! She took down the post. See you in Vegas.”

Mannie Fresh Labels Juvenile’s “Back That Azz Up” The Best Love Song Of All Time

Mannie Fresh says that “Back That Azz Up,” from Juvenile’s 400 Degreez album is “the greatest love song of all time.” He made his selection during an interview with HipHopDX at the 2023 Lovers and Friends Festival. Mannie was joined by Pimpin’ and Parlae of Dem Franchize Boyz at the event.

Fresh argued that Dem Franchize Boyz are one of the last artists that made dance music and liked to have fun. Nowadays, Mannie says artists are too focused on who is the most gangster. “Like wait, y’all ain’t dancing no more? Y’all that gangsta?” he asked. “I love when people smile and have fun, ain’t nothing wrong with that.”

From there, Pimpin’ and Parlae chimed in to reveal some of his favorite artists who are making music right now. He noted Lil Uzi Vert and his hit song, “Just Wanna Rock.” An accompanying dance popularized by Drew Jeeezy went viral on TikTok. “It ain’t a diss but you probably not gonna hear none of the new shit played at a wedding reception five years from now,” Mannie said of current songs.

Mannie Fresh On “Back That Azz Up”

This isn’t the first time that Mannie has expressed uncertainty about the current state of hip-hop. Back in 2022, he discussed where hip-hop will be in 50 years during an interview with Vibe. “This is not to hurt any feelings, but if your feelings hurt, so be it,” he began at the time. “I think in order for it to keep growing and be bigger and better, this generation got to pay attention to the last generation. You got to know where it came from. You can’t just keep going forward, going, ‘I don’t give a shit. I’m about the money.’ We going to destroy hip-hop. Do I want you to get paid? Of course. If you did the job, and you showed up or whatever, do that. But if you don’t know nothing about it, then that’s kind of corny.”
