The Weeknd Releases “After Hours (Live At SoFi Stadium)” Album

At the end of February, HBO released The Weeknd: Live at SoFi Stadium. The special was a look inside of the sold-out concert that intimately showcased The Weeknd’s most adored hits over his career. Following the performance, the 33-year-old artist released After Hours (Live at SoFi Stadium), which marks his first live album effort. The project curates 31 tracks from his five studio albums, presenting them in the raw manner that only in-person performances can exude.

Hopping from Starboy to After Hours, and even to Dawn FM, Live at SoFi Stadium reveals just how many hits this acclaimed artist has brought to life over the years. Beauty Behind The Madness, which was the Canadian’s second studio project, recently just earned the remarkable achievement of being the first album in history with three diamond singles. With four Grammy awards to his name, and dozens of other recognitions (including six AMA wins), The Weeknd has boasted a celebratory career since he first started secretly releasing YouTube videos of his music.

The Weeknd’s “Live At SoFi Stadium” Walks Listeners Through His Career

Next on the list of his upcoming projects is his series creation debut with The Idol. The Idol, which stars Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd himself, was recently met with controversial opinions. However, this hasn’t stopped the award-winning artist from expanding into the screen world. The Weeknd is also credited as a writer in the upcoming Trey Edward Shults movie starring Jenny Ortega and Barry Keoghan.

Although Live at SoFi Stadium is a compilation of The Weeknd’s previous songs, he has hinted at more music coming in the future. When asked in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year if he has been working on new tracks, he responded, “I’ve definitely been inspired. I’ve been in the studio.” For more news related to hip-hop and pop culture, don’t skip out on HNHH.

The Weeknd’s HBO Concert Film ‘Live At SoFi Stadium’ Is Getting Released As A Live Album, Too

Just days after dropping his live concert film Live At SoFi Stadium, The Weeknd is dropping a companion album. The pop star announced the live album via social media today (March 1).

In the concert film, fans see The Weeknd performing at the iconic Los Angeles venue, delivering live performances of songs from all of his eras. Fans are seen singing and shouting the lyrics to his universal hits like “I Feel It Coming,” “The Hills,” and “Die For You” — the latter recently got an Ariana Grande remix nearly seven years after its original release.

In a 2021 interview with GQ, The Weeknd shared what he thinks makes his music so timeless.

“What makes any of my albums a successful album, especially this one, is me putting it out and getting excited to make the next one,” he said. “So the excitement to make the next project means that this one was successful to me. I want to do this forever. And even if I start getting into different mediums and different types of expressions, music will be right there. I’m not going to step away from it.”

The Weeknd Turns SoFi Stadium Into A Haunted House In The New Trailer For His HBO Special

Fans of The Weeknd already had their eyes trained on HBO in anticipation of his The Idol series, but the multifaceted artist is double-dipping with HBO in 2023. One week ago, he announced that The Weeknd: Live At SoFi Stadium will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on February 25.

This morning, February 9, The Weeknd shared the extravagant trailer for the concert special:

The one-minute clip begins with the spookier aspects of The Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn Tour at the forefront. As it unfolds, we see The Weeknd in his performative element and launching into his Dawn FM track “Sacrifice.”

According to Variety, The Weeknd: Live At SoFi Stadium was directed by Micah Bickham, and the Weeknd served as one of several executive producers. The special boasts a 95-minute run time and “was recorded in Los Angeles at the concluding dates of the Weeknd’s 2022 After Hours Til Dawn Tour North American stadium tour.”

In early September, The Weeknd’s SoFi tour stop abruptly ended when he lost his voice:

The Weeknd resumed the After Hours Til Dawn Tour later that month and made up his SoFi dates on November 26-27. He didn’t waste any time announcing an international second leg:

The After Hours Til Dawn Tour will resume later this year. See the dates here, and watch The Weeknd’s North American recap below.

The Weeknd Is Making Up For His LA Fumble With A ‘Live From SoFi Stadium’ Special On HBO Max

Does it seem to anyone else that all the streamers are investing pretty heavily in concert films? I mean, it makes sense; they’re relatively cheap to produce, they come with a built-in audience, and they tend to have pretty long streaming tails. It’s the rare recent streaming strategy that is a win-win for both the platforms and their viewers — as well as the artists who license their concert footage out.

The latest act to take advantage of this lucrative trend is The Weeknd, whose new concert special for HBO Max, The Weeknd: Live At SoFi Stadium, has a premiere date of February 25.

If ever there was a case of turning lemons into lemonade, this would have to be it. During his After Hours Til Dawn Tour, The Weeknd’s voice gave out during the second Los Angeles show, prompting him to promise a refund to the 70,000 fans in attendance. At the time, he promised to “make it up to you with a new date” after confirming that his voice was “safe.”

It looks like many more fans will get to see the show thanks to the upcoming concert special, which is a pretty cool way to make up for the fumble.
