Lil Nas X responded to Saweetie admitting he was her celebrity crush during an interview with E! News. Nas’ response follows his recent backlash for his “Gays In Africa” tweet amid the passing of Uganda’s new anti-LGBTQ laws. At this point, who knows how many “Carpool Karaoke” segments we have left, since The Late Late Show With James Corden is set to air its final episode on April 28. Corden is making the most of his final days on the show, though, by bringing on some heavy hitters for “Carpool Karaoke.” He hosted Bad Bunny a couple weeks ago, and on last night’s (March 27) show, it was Lil Nas X who hopped in the passenger seat.
The segment started with Corden taking notice of Lil Nas X’s shirt, which featured a bedazzled cross (certainly a departure from all the devil stuff). Nas explained, “Oh, this? You know, I’m having my, like, ‘woman of God’ moment. Like, hmm, Christian era.” Corden then joked, “I feel like Mary Magdalene,” a Biblical figure who was a Jesus Christ associate and is often portrayed as having been a prostitute. Nas didn’t get it, though, asking, “Who’s Mary Mag-dolan?” Corden replied, “It’s a long story, let’s not get into it.”
Aside from driving around and singing songs, the main attraction of this installment was Nas and Corden stopping by the Bold And The Beautiful set to film a scene for the long-running daytime soap opera. Nas was given the part of a waiter, while Corden was relegated to holding breadsticks in the background.
Lil Nas X has been catching a lot of heat for his tweet geared toward the LGBTQ+ community in Africa. This follows after anti-LGBTQ+ legislation was passed, which could potentially land individuals in jail for living a “gay lifestyle.” Fans respond to his insensitive tweets. Lil Nas X may have spent the last several days (actually, years) defending his sexuality but it turns out all it took for him to reverse course was a co-sign from the right artist. Of course, he was joking when he said goodbye to his queer icon status after learning he’s Saweetie‘s celebrity crush… but we’d understand if he wasn’t, to be honest.
Last week, after a Twitter user trolled Nas, writing, “I feel like he’s not really gay or not really that feminine it’s so forced,” Saweetie got into some hot water with fans over liking the tweet by mistake. After realizing her error and removing the like, she explained, “He was lookin fine af that’s why I liked the video. I didn’t see the shadiness …*unlikes*”

However, Nas, a Twitter veteran and a pro at handling awkward situations, showed there were no hard feelings by quote tweeting a fan account’s post of a video featuring Saweetie talking about her crush on him on E! News. During the interview, Saweetie admits, “My celebrity guy crush is Lil Nas. He is so fine. He looks better than me!” She also cracked wise about wanting to know his skincare regimen.
Given that as recently as last year, fans were getting romantically connecting Saweetie to practically every eligible male rapper out, this one was out of left field. But it’s nice to know Nas and Saweetie have mutual respect for each other — maybe that can lead to some music (please?).
Saweetie is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
For a lot of celebrities, if trolls come after them online, odds are they’ll either never notice, or they’ll see it but choose to ignore. That’s not always the case with Lil Nas X, though, as the active Twitter user is far from afraid of clapping back at people who come after him. Over the weekend, for example, one Twitter user said they feel like the rapper is “not really gay” and Nas wasn’t going to leave that alone.
Sharing a clip from Nas’ Lollapalooza Chile performance, a Twitter user wrote on March 17, “I feel like he’s not really gay or not really that feminine it’s so forced.” Another user responded, “I think he is, but he forced the feminine part,” and the original poster replied, “Yes like he don’t exude feminine energy at all and when he does stuff like this it’s kinda cringe or comes off unauthentic. It’s like he’s a caricature of a fem boy idk.”

Lil Nas X is coming in hot at Lollapalooza Chile. Last night (March 17), the pop star performed several of his hits, and previewed some new music as well.
One of the new songs he shared was “Down Souf Hoes,” an upcoming collaboration with his fellow gay rapper, Saucy Santana.
“Down souf hoes, up at late night workin’ / Ten toes down and they won’t stop twerkin’,” Lil Nas X rap-sings on the song’s chorus, with some fun lyrics.
Though Lil Nas X performed snippets of the song during his Long Live Montero tour last year, fans got to hear more of this promising banger last night.
On one of the song’s verses, Lil Nas X promises a guy a special treat. Maybe two.
“Put the bussy on me if you really want a Patek / Put the bussy on me I might let you meet my granny,” he raps
Lil Nas X first confirmed the song’s existence around this time last year, when he revealed he had collaborations with Youngboy Never Broke Again and Saucy Santana on the way. Last summer, Lil Nas X released the Youngboy collaboration, “Late To Da Party.”
