13 Times Nicki Minaj Dropped Bars About Sports

Rap and sports go hand in hand. The impact both have on society today is comparable to none. Rappers love to shout out popular players, teams, or sports in their songs. Take Nicki Minaj bars, for example; she has plenty of LeBron James references. Athletes also show their love for rappers in return. For example, LeBron James gave 2 Chainz his game-worn jersey after the Los Angeles Lakers played the Atlanta Hawks this year. Or how the Golden State Warriors players share a word with E-40 after home games. There’s mutual respect between the two arts.

You can always find a witty sports reference in Nicki Minaj bars. You may think she was an athlete at some point in her life. Whether it be basketball, football, baseball, boxing, or golf, you get the impression that she knows a thing or two. The way she flips and puts words together makes her the rapper she is today.

Throughout the years, Nicki Minaj has proven to be a legit emcee behind the mic. Undoubtedly, she’s one of the greatest rappers of all time. The Beam Me Up Scotty rapper can rap about anything, but she always nails the sports bars. Let’s look at some of Nicki Minaj’s bars about sports.

13. “Side To Side” – Ariana Grande ft. Nicki Minaj (2016)

Curry with the shot, just tell ’em to call me Stephanie.” It seems like every rapper has a Steph Curry bar. Since Curry burst onto the scene, he has been in more rap songs than you can count. Whether it’s his name, jersey number, or team, Chef Curry is pretty popular. Nicki gets her chance on Ariana Grande’s “Side To Side.” She gets clever by calling herself Stephanie, not Steph.

12.“Motorsport” – Migos ft. Cardi B & Nicki Minaj (2018)

I am the champ, I’m Iron Mike in a bout.” It’s funny how Nicki uses these bars on “Motorsport.” With Cardi on the same track, it’s no coincidence that she raps like this. She uses a boxing reference while talking about Iron Mike. Iron Mike is former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson’s nickname. Known to knock his opponents out, Nicki feels she is just like the champ.

11. “My Chick Bad” – Ludacris ft. Nicki Minaj (2010)

Runnin’ down the court I’m dunkin’ on ’em Lisa Leslie.” It’s good to hear Nicki shout out the WNBA. Lisa Leslie is one of the best basketball players to play the game. She was a dominant force in the WNBA and was the first woman to dunk in a WNBA game. It looks like Nicki feels like she’s leading the competition like Leslie did.

10. “Roman’s Revenge” ft. Eminem (2010)

These b*tches callin’ me Manning, Eli.” The “Super Bass” artist revealed her alter ego, Roman, on “Roman’s Revenge.” Nicki usually references baseball and basketball, but it looks like Roman is privy to football. Here, Minaj compares herself to two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Eli Manning. With Eli playing for the New York Giants, Nicki prefers to name him instead of his popular older brother, Peyton. It may be a New York thing.

9. “Truffle Butter” ft. Drake & Lil Wayne (2015)

I’m good with the ballpoint game, finger roll.” Nicki has plenty of confidence in her writing skills. She makes it clear that she writes her lyrics down with a ballpoint pen. In basketball, a finger roll is a smooth layup in which the ball glides right off the fingertips into the hoop. It seems like the words come easy to the Pinkprint rapper.

8. “My N**** (Remix)” – YG ft. Lil Wayne, Rich Homie Quan, Meek Mill, & Nicki Minaj (2014)

Like they injured Chris Paul, you ain’t got no point.” Chris Paul is one of the best point guards in NBA history. When Paul is injured, the team loses their point guard. In the line before, the Queens artist says, “You n***** ain’t got no joints.” She’s letting these rappers know they don’t have any hits, so there’s no point in them being here.

7. “No Frauds” ft. Drake & Lil Wayne (2017)

They say numbers don’t matter but when they discussin’ the kings, they turn around and say Lebron ain’t got six rings.” On “No Frauds,” Nicki sends plenty of shots Remy Ma’s way. Again, she references basketball, and of course, LeBron gets another shoutout. This whole verse was dedicated to Remy Ma as she mentions that her album sales are not high. Remy and many others feel she shouldn’t talk about sales, but Nicki disagrees. In basketball, the conversation is, who is the better player? Michael Jordan or LeBron James? Many will say Jordan because he has six rings while LeBron has four.

6. “Love More” – Chris Brown ft. Nicki Minaj (2014)

I hope your pockets got m******** pot belly or is it that you never ball? John Salley.” Another basketball reference here for arguably the Queen of Rap. Nicki must be referring to John Salley’s later playing days. He was a part of the Detroit “Bad Boy” Pistons, winning championships with them in 1988 & 1989. In 1999, Salley came out of retirement to suit up for the Los Angeles Lakers. Though he didn’t play much, Salley won another championship with the Lakers.

5. “Only” ft. Chris Brown, Drake & Lil Wayne (2014)

And tell them b*tches blow me, Lance Stephenson.” Nicki has LeBron on her mind once again.  She must be familiar with the LeBron James-Lance Stephenson rivalry. Their matchups were always entertaining when James played for the Miami Heat, and Stephenson played for the Indiana Pacers. In one of their matchups, Stephenson was guarding James as the ball was waiting to be thrown into play. He blew in his ear, and James just chuckled. Wonder if LeBron knows the number of times he’s been in Nicki Minaj’s bars.

4. “Roman’s Revenge” ft. Eminem (2010)

I’m a bad b*tch, I’m a c****, and I’ll kick that h**, punt.” Roman mentions football again in “Roman’s Revenge.” In football, a punt is when one team kicks the ball to its opponent. A punt is a long, high kick that soars through the air. Nicki has plans to kick her opposition out of here. It’s not hard to find a bit of humor in Nicki Minaj’s bars.

3. “Moment 4 Life” ft. Drake (2010)

And yes, I call the shots, I am the umpire.” The host of Queen Radio has rapped about sports since the beginning. In “Moment 4 Life,” Nicki describes herself as an umpire. Umpires officiate the game of baseball. One of the most important tasks of umpires is to monitor the pitches. Just like the umpires, Nicki is calling everything.

2. “Plain Jane (Remix)” – ASAP Ferg ft. Nicki Minaj (2017)

If I call him them he comin’ home runnin’, Derek Jeter.” The Young Money artist has been known to jump on a song for a remix. On ASAP Ferg’s hit, “Plain Jane,” Nicki references Hall of Famer and five-time champion Derek Jeter in these bars. Nicki plays on the baseball term “home run” by saying her man will come home running when she calls. Also, it’s interesting she mentions Jeter as Nicki is from Queens, New York, and Jeter played his whole career with the New York Yankees. It’s only right she namedrops a New York great while on a New York artist’s song.

1. “Do You Mind” – DJ Khaled ft. Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, August Alsina, Jeremih, Rick Ross, & Future (2016)

Every baller tryna score, check them shot clocks, but I hit ’em with them ‘Bron-Iguodala blocks.” It might be safe to say LeBron James is Nicki Minaj’s favorite. basketball player. Throughout her career, she has mentioned the NBA superstar in different ways. On DJ Khaled’s “Do You Mind,” these bars come right on time. Nicki references the historic 2016 NBA Finals, where the Cleveland Cavaliers came back from 3-1 to win the series.

James had the infamous block on Andre Iguodola with under two minutes left in Game 7. The Pink Friday rapper shows love to the historic play made by James just months earlier. Also, Nicki was in a relationship with Meek Mill around this time. These lines also mean that Nicki is curving any man that is interested in her. There’s a reason she’s included in the Top 50 greatest rappers of all time.

Stephen A. Smith Offers Shocking LeBron-MJ Hot Take

When it comes to the GOAT debate in basketball, no one seems to engage in it more often than Stephen A. Smith. Overall, this debate is extremely annoying. Although it never goes anywhere, people insist on having it. LeBron James and Michael Jordan are neck and neck for GOAT status. However, it depends on which generation you grew up in. If you grew up in the 2000s and 2010s, LeBron is your guy. If you watched basketball in the 80s and 90s, you pick Jordan. Needless to say, there is no convincing anyone of changing their position.

Stephen A. has always been adamant that his mind is made up in the GOAT debate. He will forever be choosing Michael Jordan. After all, those six titles in six NBA Finals speak for themself. However, Stephen A. will still talk about the NBA Mt. Rushmore on First Take. Typically, LeBron is on there, although last week he said Steph Curry could replace him. After going up 3-1 against the Warriors on Monday night, Smith has changed his tune on LeBron. In fact, it seems to be a drastic shift in perspective.

Stephen A. Speaks

As you can see in the clip above, Stephen A. says “it would warrant a discussion” as it pertains to LeBron passing Michael Jordan for GOAT status. Of course, the caveat here is that James wins a fifth NBA title this season. At this point, the possibility most definitely exists. Overall, the Lakers are likely going to knock off the Warriors. Subsequently, they will play either the Nuggets or the Suns, who don’t look so good right now. From there, the Sixers, Heat, Celtics, and Knicks are all showing some vulnerability in the postseason. It won’t be easy, but it can happen.

Whether or not Stephen A. actually changes his mind, remains to be seen. If LeBron does win a title this year, and scores a ton of points while doing so, it will be hard to vote against him. Let us know who you think the NBA GOAT is, in the comments section below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for more news and updates from around the sports world.

LeBron James Shouts Out This Lakers Player For Their Heroics

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers were not looking too good earlier in the season. However, they have completely managed to turn things around for the better. Overall, the Lakers are now in the second round of the playoffs, and they are about to knock off the Golden State Warriors. After a 104-101 win last night in Los Angeles, the Lakers lead the series 3-1. Subsequently, the series is headed back to San Francisco for what could be a decisive Game 5. If the Lakers win, they are off to the Western Conference Finals.

Although the Lakers won the game, it did not come without some adversity. Early in the third quarter, the Lakers did not look very good. The Warriors built a strong lead, only for it to evaporate in the final frame. As it turns out, a bench player for the Lakers is who came out and dominated the Warriors. Lonnie Walker IV had spent much of this series on the bench. However, as soon as he got minutes, he put up 15 points in the final quarter to turn the game around and secure a victory for the purple and gold.

LeBron James Is A Happy Man

Following the game, Chris Haynes of TNT asked LeBron about his teammates and who helped the team get the W. Of course, the Lakers superstar was quick to point out Walker. Overall, he praised the depth player for always staying ready. “I hope Lonnie Walker’s the first. I hope Lonnie Walker’s the first,” LeBron James said. “It’s not even about tonight. I’ve been telling him, I said, ‘Lonnie, stay ready. We’re gonna need you at some point.’ For him to be as young as he is, for him to have that professionalism, come out, stay ready when his number is called. We don’t win that game without Lonnie Walker tonight. That’s for sure.”

With this kind of depth, it will be very difficult for any of the teams left in the postseason to knock off the Lakers. Of course, the Boston Celtics have a great case, however, aside from them, the Lakers could very well win the whole thing. Although, that road is not going to be all that easy. Let us know if you think they will close this series out, in the comments down below.

LeBron James Showers Bronny In Praise After USC Commitment

LeBron James is currently having a nice campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers. Overall, LeBron has a lot to be excited about. The Lakers are up 2-1 on the Golden State Warriors, and tonight, they could very well take a large lead in the series. If they pull off a win in this series, they would go to the Western Conference Finals. Additionally, both the Nuggets and Suns are vulnerable right now. Consequently, the Lakers could have a path to the NBA Finals. Although, we are getting ahead of ourselves here.

Aside from LeBron James and his on-court accomplishments, James has been a happy man off of the court. Much of this has to do with his son Bronny James Jr. Over the weekend, Bronny announced that he would be committing to USC. After contemplating schools like Ohio State and Oregon, Bronny opted to stay in California. Overall, it was a great decision that will now have a huge say in whether or not he someday gets to the NBA. Although, in the eyes of many, that is going to be a given.

LeBron James Is A Happy Man

In true LeBron James fashion, he reacted to the news by taking to Instagram where he posted a photo of Bronny. In the caption, he wrote “FIGHT ON!!! So damn proud of you kid! I have words besides I LOVE YOU @bronny!!! LET’S GO!!!!!!” Furthermore, LeBron had told reporters on Saturday night this was extra special as Bronny is the first person from his family to go to college. Overall, that must be an amazing feeling for Bronny, who continues to showcase his talents and majority.

At this point, it must be nice to be LeBron James. He has every single accomplishment one could ever want in the NBA. Moreover, he has an amazing family that is carving out an impressive legacy. If LeBron and the Lakers can go out and do the impossible this season, then James will have to be seen as the GOAT. At five rings, it would be hard to say otherwise. Let us know what you think of Bronny’s decision, in the comments section below.

T.I. Explains Why He Will Always Respect LeBron James

T.I. is an Atlanta legend and will forever be seen that way. Overall, he has classic records and some classic songs that will forever be iconic. Additionally, through his fame, he has been able to secure friendly relationships with people outside of hip-hop. For instance, the artist is good friends with none other than LeBron James. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar is currently battling the Golden State Warriors in the playoffs. However, it was his actions as a Cavalier that have always stuck with Tip.

Recently, T.I. was on the show Broken Play where he revealed why he is such a fan of LeBron James. Overall, it boils down to a moment in 2009, where LeBron ate dinner at T.I.’s grandmother’s house. This just so happened to be not long before her passing. “I’ma always be a LeBron James fan and I’ll tell you why,” T.I. explained. “The last Mother’s Day my grandmama was alive, LeBron came to my grandmama house and sat on my grandmama porch, right on Bankhead. [He] ate barbecue and kicked it with me, my grandmama and all my cousins.”

LeBron James Media Firm Seeks To Buy Complex

The news that BuzzFeed was shutting down sent shockwaves around the media industry last month. Love them or hate them, BuzzFeed was a media titan who had seemingly survived everything the world had thrown at it. However, the media outlet has been whittled down over the years. There have been numerous mass layoffs at the site prior to its shuttering.

However, CEO Jonah Peretti stated that the BuzzFeed brand was no longer profitable and so the outlet would be dissolved to funnel resources into more “profitable” areas of the media empire. This would include a larger focus on sites such as HuffPost as well as expanding the use of AI at the company’s remaining assets. However, now there’s a bidder for some of the BuzzFeed-owned properties. And it’s not who you might expect.

LeBron Makes $100 Million Offer For Complex

The Complex Network was purchased by BuzzFeed for $300 million in late 2021. Prior to that, it had been owned by a joint venture between Hearst and Verizon. That ownership largely used Complex as a content production facility for AOL and go90. However, Complex largely returned to creating original content once acquired by BuzzFeed. It has become known for carving a niche for content in the hip hop genre. One especially known Complex feature is their ongoing GOAT series. Recent guests include Praise This co-stars Quavo and Chloe Bailey.

LeBron James, alongside Maverick Carter, founded the media company, The SpringHill Company in 2020. Since then, SpringHill has been behind several game shows, as well as films like Space Jam: A New Legacy and Hustle. But now it appears that they are moving towards media production. SpringHill has reportedly made a $100 million offer to purchase Complex Network from BuzzFeed. This would mean that BuzzFeed would make $200 million loss from their purchase of Complex less than two years ago. According to a source who spoke with Insider, Peretti is “not presently receptive to the idea”. However, the news that LeBron is targeting Complex speaks to his and his partners at SpringHill’s aims for the company. Any further updates on the potential sale will be covered here at HotNewHipHop.

NBA MVP Voting Ends Historic Streak

On May 2, the NBA officially announced Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid as the 2022-23 MVP. For most of the season, it seemed as though the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic would become the fourth player in NBA history to win back-to-back-to-back MVPs. However, Embiid pulled away in the final weeks of the season to cap off a career year with the MVP title.

Jokic finished second behind Embiid, earning 15 first-place votes. Behind him was the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo with 12 first-place votes. The top five was rounded by Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics) and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder). However, with these five players earning MVP nominations, it put an end to a historic streak.

LeBron Misses Out On MVP Votes For First Time Ever

There is no debating that LeBron James is one of the greatest players to every pick up a basketball. He entered the league 20 years ago as a fresh-faced 18-year-old out of St Vincent-St Mary’s High School in Akron, Ohio. However, his impact was immediately felt around the league. Even as a rookie, LeBron finished 9th in MVP voting. Over the next 19 seasons, he has four MVP titles. In 2021, he broke the record for the most number of seasons receiving MVP votes. The previous record was set at 17 by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Last year, LeBron received a single vote for MVP, setting his streak at 19 seasons. That was despite only playing 56 games for the Lakers.

However, with LeBron receiving zero votes for the 2022-23 season, his historic streak is over. It is the first time in the legend’s career that he has not received at least one MVP vote. It does not come as a surprise to many though. LeBron saw an overall decline across the board statistically in a season significantly impacted by injury. While LeBron is showing no sign of retiring and has publicly stated that he wants to at least share the court with his son, Bronny, his days of MVP consideration may be over. Despite this, LeBron could be in line for another ring this year. His Lakers are currently 1-0 up against the Warriors in the second round of the NBA playoffs.

SOURCE SPORTS: Lakers Top Warriors 117-112 in Thrilling Game 1 Behind Anthony Davis 30-20 Game

FvLafx8aYAM lQC

Game One of the NBA Western Conference Semifinals matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors was as good as advertised. The Lakers emerged from the opening set as the winner, 117-112.

Coming into the game, the talk was about the fifth playoffs matchup between LeBron James and Stephen Curry. The game’s true star was Anthony Davis, who erupted for 30 points and 23 rebounds. He also added five assists and four blocks.

Davis is now the fifth player in Lakers history to drop 30 and 20, joining Shaquille O’Neal, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Elgin Baylor.

“The Lakers franchise over the years, over the course of their existence, has always had dominant big men, dominant guys that have been a force at the rim,” James said. “That’s why their jerseys are in the rafters. AD will be up there when he’s done playing. The No. 3 will be up in the rafters. He continues to show why he’s one of the best players that we have in this league.”

“The guys gave the ball to me in the right spots,” Davis added. “A lot of it came out of pick-and-roll, post-ups, some offensive rebounds. Just being aggressive when I do catch [the ball], looking to score, looking to play make to the other guys.”

James finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds, D’Angelo Russell and Dennis Schroder added 19 points for the Lakers. Curry had 27, Klay Thompson had 25 points, Jordan Poole brought 21 off the bench, and Kevon Looney added 10 points and 23 rebounds.
