LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo Lead NBA All-Star Voting

The NBA has announced the starting lineups for the upcoming 2024 NBA All-Star Game, with Giannis Antetokounmpo leading the Eastern Conference and LeBron James leading the Western Conference as captains. The league is reverting to the traditional East vs. West format for the 73rd NBA All-Star Game scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 18.

Joining Antetokounmpo in the East is Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, and teammate guard Damian Lillard. Joining James in the West is Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant, Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

This is the 20th straight All-Star selection for James, passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for most in the history of the NBA.

“I give credit and a lot of respect to my fans who have been along with me through this whole 21-year journey,” James said Thursday night. “And voting me in as an All-Star starter for the 20th-consecutive time, just very humbled. Very blessed to be able to do what I love to do and just try to give back, give back to the game that’s given me over two decades. So, to be able to know this is the first time ever in NBA history to have this many All-Star starts or whatever the case might be, it’s very cool.”

Starters were determined through a combination of fan votes (50%), current NBA players’ votes (25%), and a media panel (25%). TNT is set to reveal the reserves on Thursday, February 1, at 7 ET. The 30 NBA coaches will select the 14 reserves, considering two guards, three frontcourt players, and two players at any position in their respective conferences. Commissioner Adam Silver will choose replacements from the same conference for any players unable to participate.

In today’s digital age, the synergy between sports and social media is unmistakable, with a basketball association’s popularity directly influencing its social media presence. This trend is exemplified by the “NBA All Star” official Instagram account (@NBAAllStar). Analysis by CasinospotDK reveals that from December 31, 2023, to the end of January 2024, @nbaallstar’s followers increased from 1,990,581 to 2,012,287, marking an addition of 21,706 new followers in just three weeks. This change in subscribers reflects a growing interest in the event, but also opens the way to expanded monetization opportunities, which can be used for charitable purposes or to develop sports in the country. For instance, the price for a sponsored post on the @nbaallstar Instagram account could range between $2.79M and $4.19M, presenting a significant revenue stream.

Why Was LeBron James Mentioned During Young Thug’s Trial?

Georgia v. Jefferey Williams — also known as the “Young Thug RICO Trial” to rap fans and observers online — has been full of eyebrow-raising moments so far, from Thug’s defense lawyer’s questionable explanations for the rapper’s name and some of YSL’s slang to snippets of his music being played in court. Today’s proceedings continued that trend as even NBA star LeBron James was mentioned during witness testimony.

LeBron came up via a TikTok video introduced as evidence, which featured LeBron James going through his signature round of handshakes with his Lakers teammates in the tunnel before a game. A defense attorney showed the clip to alleged YSL gang leader Trontavious Stephens, then asked him if he recognized James and whether he could identify some of the hand gestures in it. Stephens, of course, answered in the affirmative — after all, James is one of the most famous people alive — then identified James’ nose-wiping gesture.

“Did you hear what Mr. James said as he wiped his nose?” the defense asked. The answer, “slime,” became the point of contention, as the defense attorney sought to make clear to the jury that if someone as prominent as LeBron James — who is not mobbed up or associated with a gang of any kind, unless the Lakers count — could use the term and wipe his nose as part of an elaborate handshake routine, then there’s little chance they could be solely associated with their use as gang signals, as the prosecution has suggested.

Stephens certainly cooperates, noting that the wiping of the nose gesture and the use of the term “slime” is not unique to the gang he and Thug are accused of leading. Of course, we won’t know how effective the arguments were on the jury until much, much later in the trial, which will continue for up to six months.

Usher Gets Help From LeBron James, J Balvin, And Jung Kook To Tease His Super Bowl Halftime Show In A New Video

Usher is currently preparing for one of the biggest performances of his storied career: the upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show. (It looks like he’s even cut sugar and alcohol from his diet to make sure his body is as ready as possible for the big day.) The Super Bowl is now just under a month away, as kickoff is set for February 11. Ahead of then, Usher has hyped up his performance with a new teaser video.

The video starts with a gospel choir singing, “Peace up, A-Town down,” before the rest of the clip is soundtracked by Usher, Ludacris, and Lil Jon’s 2004 hit “Yeah!.” From there, we’re treated to various clips from throughout the years, of either Usher or other people enjoying him and/or “Yeah!.” The video ends with the tagline, “One performance. 30 years in the making.”

Pay attention and you’ll spot appearances from LeBron James, J Balvin, and Jung Kook. Usher worked with Balvin last year, teaming up with him and DJ Khaled on “Dientes.” A couple months later, he linked up with Jung Kook for a “Standing Next To You” remix. LeBron, meanwhile, was pumped last year when he heard that Usher had landed the coveted halftime gig.

Lil Wayne Compared His Rap Career To An Iconic Basketball Player, As They Both Started Young

Lil Wayne recently sat down for an interview with Taylor Rooks from Bleacher Report, where he revealed the basketball player he thought was comparable to his own rap career.

While he didn’t go for Michael Jordan, he did choose another iconic player to represent himself. And he had some logic behind it.

“I would say that I’m like LeBron,” Lil Wayne said. “I dropped my first solo album when I was 14, and that’s the same album I’m talking about that went platinum. And I’ve been doing this at this pace ever since, just like him.”

The rapper also felt comparable a bit to Tom Brady, if he was going by the football side of things. As Lil Wayne pointed out, he felt that people questioned if he would retire from music the same way.

“You remember Tom Brady, it was every year, even though he was winning the Super Bowl and all that, it still was, ‘Is this the year he’s gonna retire?’” he added.

Finally, Lil Wayne jumped back to the subject of LeBron James, when he mentioned who he thought would replace him when James retires. “To me, I think the obvious answer is Ja [Morant],” he shared. “The NBA is entertainment. What I mean by that is there was always Michael Jordan and that was, you know, like God… Ja’s teams are actually competitive when he’s there and when he’s doing his thing.”
