DJ Hed Has A Hot Take About Kendrick Lamar & Lil Wayne Super Bowl Controversy

During an interview with The Shade Room, DJ Hed gave his definitive take on the Kendrick Lamar and Lil Wayne Super Bowl debacle. “I mean, I don’t like the comparisons,” he began. “I don’t like the negativity around it, I don’t think it’s needed. For people who are completely self-absorbed and people who are selfish in a certain way – ‘Cause it’s The Shade Room: I’m not talking about Nicki, Drake, Stunna or nobody like that. I’m just saying that the Internet and the fans and people cause these types of disruptions. I think it’s unfair taking away from people’s moments.

“When you look at Lil Wayne, Lil Wayne is one of them ones in a real way,” DJ Hed continued. “This is not to diminish his legacy or take away from anything that he’s done culturally or musically. He’s a legend. All of these dudes is his sons. That’s a fact, right? So because all of these dudes is his sons, I think he’s owed that respect. However, the Super Bowl performance has never been indicative of geography. That just recently became a thing because of cultural awareness.

DJ Hed Speaks On Kendrick Lamar & Lil Wayne Debate

“We’ve all been in rooms where we’re the only person who looked like us in those rooms,” DJ Hed went on. “So whenever you’re in these situations, I think you have an opportunity to speak culturally. When you look at what’s happening recently with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg at the Super Bowl, that was more or less curation. Being culturally aware. ‘Hey, this might be a good idea. Rappers have never been at the forefront, or hip-hop has never been at the forefront on a stage like this.’

“I don’t think it’s about geography,” DJ Hed concluded. “Just ’cause it’s in Atlanta doesn’t mean Future is the one that needs to perform. Just because it’s in Detroit doesn’t mean that Eminem needs to perform. The teams who are playing, who earned the right to compete in the Super Bowl with no round twos, those teams are not even from the city that they are playing in. So I don’t like that mixed messaging that people are conflating the two. Also, if you want to keep it real, who’s had a better year than Dot at this point?

Nas Congratulates Kendrick Lamar For Super Bowl Halftime Show

Kendrick Lamar has had one of the most eventful years for a rapper in recent memory, following up his Super Bowl halftime show announcement with a new song after an intense battle with Drake. Even though there’s a lot of debate over whether or not the legendary Lil Wayne deserved the headlining spot instead, another hip-hop legend had nothing to say but congratulations. Moreover, Nas recently shouted K.Dot out on his Instagram Story on Friday (September 13), which is coincidentally one day before Esco’s birthday. “Congratulations to my brotha @kendricklamar. Can’t wait to watch the party die!!!!” he wrote, making reference to Kendrick’s new track and reposting his Super Bowl announcement.

As such, this is a light cosign on Nas’ part of all the cultural, social, and philosophical critiques of the rap game that Kendrick Lamar engaged in on his new record. But it’s also just an excited anticipation of what’s to come from him, so let’s not read too deeply into it. If you weren’t aware, these two MCs admire each other deeply, with them linking up for the Queens lyricist’s 50th birthday party last year. Also, Nasir Jones spoke glowingly of listening to the Compton star for the first time on his King’s Disease III cut, “First Time.”

Kendrick Lamar Gets Love From Nas

Since when did rap leave me so suspended in air?” Nas rapped about his first experience with Kendrick Lamar’s art. “Since Kendrick entered the atmosphere, ’09, I was there / On La Cienega, my n***a from L.A. said there’s a n***a from Black Hippy / I was happy to just witness history.” Many rap fans today can probably relate to this feeling, whether it’s specifically concerning the pgLang creative or when it comes to other fan-favorite artists these days.

Meanwhile, Lil Wayne recently broke his silence on not being selected for Super Bowl LIX in favor of Kendrick Lamar. “It made me feel like s**t not getting this opportunity,” he reflected. “And when I felt like s**t, you guys reminded me that I ain’t s**t without y’all. And that’s an amazing reality. So, like I said, it broke me. And I’m just trying to put me back together. But, my God, have you all helped me. Thanks to all my peers, my friends, my family, my homies on sports television and everybody repping me. I really appreciate that, I really do. I feel like I let all of y’all down by not getting that opportunity. But I’m working on me and I’m working. Thank you.”

Lil Wayne Draws Fans’ Sympathy And Apathy Over His Super Bowl Snub Response

Lil Wayne found himself at the center of controversy after Kendrick Lamar announced that he will headline Super Bowl LIX’s halftime show in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 9, 2025. Many folks felt like the Young Money boss deserved the spot instead, a conversation amplified by K.Dot’s beef with Tunechi’s Toronto protégé, Drake. While there are many different angles and perspectives to discuss and debate, the most important one to consider is Wayne’s own feelings. Now, we have a good idea of what those are thanks to a heartfelt video response that landed on social media in the wee hours of Friday (September 13).

That hurt,” Lil Wayne said of not being selected for Super Bowl LIX’s halftime show. “Hurt a lot. You know what I’m talking about? It hurt a whole lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a let-down. And for just automatically mentally putting myself in that position like somebody had told me that was my position. So I blame myself for that. But I thought that there was nothing better than that spot and that stage and that platform in my city. So it hurt, it hurt a whole lot.

Lil Wayne’s Response To Missing Out On Super Bowl Halftime Show In New Orleans

“But y’all… Y’all are f***ing amazing,” Lil Wayne continued. “It made me feel like s**t not getting this opportunity. And when I felt like s**t, you guys reminded me that I ain’t s**t without y’all. And that’s an amazing reality. So, like I said, it broke me. And I’m just trying to put me back together. But, my God, have you all helped me. Thanks to all my peers, my friends, my family, my homies on sports television and everybody repping me. I really appreciate that, I really do. Wack 100 Offers Kendrick Lamar Some Rare Support Amid Super Bowl Debacle

Lil Wayne fans have been coming out in droves over almost the last week thanks to one decision in particular. If you have been living under a rock, they are all furious over the NFL/JAY-Z/Roc Nation choosing to go with Kendrick Lamar for this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show. The main reason why they are so upset is because of the New Orleans location for the 59th edition of the biggest stage in sports. Furthermore, it’s now the third time it’s been there, and he’s never been selected. To be realistic, though, his first real shot would have been in 2013. Prior to that the Super Bowl was in NOLA in 2002.

Overall, it’s fairly safe to say that more people are mad rather than happy to have Kendrick take centerstage. However, Wack 100 is daringly showing some support for the California rapper amid the heat of this debate. In a reshared clip on X, you can hear the manager and the rest of the panel passionately yelling and making their points as to who they feel deserved it more. To no surprise, Wack was all alone on this one, but he was able to get his point across through all of the screaming.

Wack 100 Says People Are Mad About Kendrick Lamar Because He’s A Rapper

He says that the only reason people are frustrated is because he’s a rapper and that it has nothing to do with where he’s from. Some were arguing Taylor Swift and bringing up Beyonce’s show. However, Wack said no one batted an eye at Bey and same would have been true for Swift due to the genre they’re in. He also feels that the same would have been for Eminem? Although, Wack didn’t explain his reasoning for that one. He’s a rapper just like Wayne and Lamar. Regardless, it seems like he feels that the “Not Like Us” MC was deserving of this honor. He ruffled feathers here and we can only imagine how many more will be once they hear this.

What are your thoughts on Wack 100 backing the decision to have Kendrick Lamar as the Super Bowl performer? Do you think he has a valid argument, why or why not? Where do you fall on this ongoing debate? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Boosie Badazz Rants Against Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show

Boosie Badazz is one of many people online who have an issue with Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show. However, his background for this debate is much different than other conversations happening online. For one, a lot of people are just roping the Drake battle into this and making this more about a war between OVO and Roc Nation. But the Baton Rouge native loves his native Louisiana, and agrees with people saying that Kendrick was a deserved pick, but the incorrect one. Specifically, he shouted out some other New Orleans rap legends that should’ve been tapped to perform at the massive event in the city on February 9, 2025.

“ALL YALL ACTING LIKE YALL COOL WITH HOW THEY PLAYING IT FOR THE SUPERBOWL,” Boosie’s rant against Kendrick Lamar began. “SMH THE MOST CULTURAL CITY N THE USA( NEW ORLÉANS)ITS A SMACK N THE FACE TO EVERY HIP HOP LEGEND FROM LOUISIANA!! @MasterPMiller @BIRDMAN5STAR THIS SHOWS THEY NEVER WANTED YALL TO KICK N THE DOOR N THE FIRST PLACE CAUSE THEY STILL TRYNA LOCK IT!! SUPERBOWL 22” WAS N CALI N CALI ARTIST WAS ALLOWED TO DO THEY THANG N IT WAS A GREAT SHOW!! BUT NOW ITS N LOUISIANA N NO LOUISIANA LEGENDS CANT DO THEY THANG #idontrespectit.”

Boosie Speaks On Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl

Boosie does bring up a solid point: Kendrick Lamar performed at the 2022 Super Bowl alongside Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and more in California, and the next two Super Bowls will be in the state. But there are also so many other factors that contributed to this decision that it’s hard to really blame anyone for it specifically. In a similar way, it’s tough to attribute negative attacks to this move or characterize it as something that deep. Jay-Z seems pretty excited for the whole thing. But the big factors of criticism at the end of the day are the NFL’s treatment of the Black community and the promotion of the U.S.’ capitalist machine, not whether or not Lil Wayne should’ve been the headliner.

Meanwhile, there’s still a lot of debate over whether or not a Weezy halftime show would be good. Conversely, there are plenty of fans who don’t think Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl will be that good, and there are loads of others that think it will be spectacular. At the end of the day, it’s the same conversation we’ve always had around this topic. We just swapped out the names.

Reginae Carter Stirs The Pot Further Amid Lil Wayne-Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl Debate

There continues to be a lot of arm wrestling over who deserves this upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show performance more. With the 59th game being in New Orleans, Louisiana for now the eleventh time (third this century), fans of Weezy are furious and want answers as to why he was “robbed” once again. In fact, even other artists in hip-hop are hoping that Kendrick Lamar will do everyone a favor and bring out Lil Wayne. However, there are still quite a lot of big names backing the kid from Compton, especially the man who was responsible for selecting him.

“Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer,” Jay-Z said. “His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come”. Overall, Hov makes a lot of great points, and with the year that he’s having and the potential for a new album coming soon, it was a pretty safe and reasonable pick. However, this is not going to stop the Wayne supporters from dubbing this as a massive injustice.

A post shared by The Neighborhood Talk (@theneighborhoodtalk)

Perhaps the MCs biggest fan, –eldest child and only daughter– Reginae Carter, certainly feels that same way. In a vague and timely tweet, the model and entrepreneur simply stated that “They envy greatness !!!!”. However, not many people in The Neighborhood Talk comment section are feeling this response to her father not being selected. Instead, its gotten her tons of backlash from fans of Lamar. “The Kendrick hate is hilarious dawg. That man is an artist in every way possible now nobody likes him out of nowhere 😂”, one user writes back. “The Super Bowl has been in Louisiana 10 times…Why didn’t yall call for Lil Wayne in any of those other games? Because yall hating on Kendrick…& Newsflash they don’t pick the artist in connection with where the game is played…Dr Dre was a special case”.

There’s a good chance that this debate continues for a long time, so be sure to stick around for any updates. What are your thoughts on Reginae Carter’s tweet during the Lil Wayne-Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl debate? Do you think that JAY-Z and Roc Nation made the right choice, why or why not? Is the disdain for Kendrick right now valid or unjustified? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments.
