Joey Badass Criticized Disney World After His Autistic Cousin Was Blocked From Entering Without A Mask

Back in July, Florida’s Disney World reopened despite a coronavirus surge in the state. The park opened with a mask mandate that applied for all guests “ages 2 and up and Cast Members, including those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine.” These official guidelines came into play for Joey Badass when he and his family, which included his autistic cousin, took a trip to the theme park. Unfortunately for them, they were all turned away after they said Badass’ cousin could not enter without a mask.

The rapper criticized Disney World for the incident on Instagram in a video that captured some of the ordeal. In it, Badass can be seen approaching a security guard and two vacation planners at the park and questioning their decision to turn away his cousin. The video’s caption added more context to the situation.

“Here’s Luis, Cameron, and Kaitlyn and they just turned away an autistic child at Disney World because he didn’t want to wear his mask,” he said. “The child thinks the mask is suffocating, the child also has no idea why it is even a requirement. Not to mention that, kids under 2, doesn’t have to wear a mask. These guys have completely ruined my family’s trip.” He added, “We came out here 30+ for my daughters bday and they turned my lil cousin away, can’t even enjoy this experience anymore.”

It’s unclear how old the rapper’s little cousin is as it would factor into whether or not the mask guidelines would have applied. Disney has not issued a statement about the matter as well. You can watch the Badass’ video above.

Diddy And Joey Badass Celebrate Their First-Ever Oscar Nominations

The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences revealed the nominees for the 93rd Annual Academy Awards on Monday, with plenty of powerhouse thespians, like Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield, receiving nominations. But a couple big names in the music industry also received quieter acclaim.

Diddy and Joey Badass both landed Oscar nominations for their contributions to the film Two Distant Strangers. It was nominated in the Best Live Action Short Film category, and as for their respective roles, Diddy served as producer while Badass played its main character, Carter James. After hearing the news, Badass took to Twitter, writing, “I’m officially Oscar-nominated. That’s crazy. #TwoDistantStrangers… Imma be a F*CKING EGOT.” Diddy, meanwhile, tweeted three prayer hand emojis with a graphic of the Best Live Action Short Film nominees.

The Two Distant Strangers team also celebrated the nomination on their Instagram page. “Filming in the middle of a pandemic, in just five days, brought numerous challenges,” they wrote. “But our team was united and persevered. Thank you to everyone that has believed in us and helped us to get to this point. We can’t wait to share this story with everyone.”

The nominations arrived weeks after the documentary Bigge: I Got A Story, which Diddy co-produced. As for Joey, following a few quiet years on the music side of things, he’s been quite active lately, with his video for “Trust Nobody (2 My Brothers),” with DJ Scheme, and his remix of Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats’ “Cosmic.m4a,” with The Alchemist.

Joey Badass Questions Life As He Knows It In His Video For ‘Trust Nobody (2 My Brothers)’ With DJ Scheme

After going more than two years without releasing much music, not even making guest appearances, Joey Badass made his presence known with a collection of musical contributions in 2020. One of those came with DJ Scheme on their track “Trust Nobody (2 My Brothers).” The collaboration is housed on Scheme’s Family, which he released in December and which also features Juice WRLD, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Yachty, Lil Keed, and more. Nearly three months after dropping the project, he and Badass return with a video for their song.

It begins with Badass and Scheme in the studio together, presumably listening to music together. The former gets then gets up and heads to a nearby room to pace around and lay down in thought as he examines his life and the relationships. “Tell me, who can I trust if I don’t trust myself?” Badass raps on the song. “Fallin’ victim to lust and needed someone else / I run away from my problems knowin’ I need some help.” The video concludes with the duo riding in the backseat of an SUV as they drive through the cold winter weather to an unknown destination.

Prior to the video, Badass joined Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats to remix “Cosmic.m4a” with The Alchemist. He also celebrated his birthday with a visual for “Let It Breathe.”

Denzel Curry And Kenny Beats Recruit Joey Badass And The Alchemist To Remix ‘Cosmic.m4a’

Last year, Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats teamed up for their Unlocked project, which they released with little to no announcement for fans. The 8-track effort was an entirely solo release from the pairing, but it will soon receive a sweet update with the help of a strong cast of collaborators. However, before that arrives, the duo unleashes a brand new remix of “Cosmic. m4a” featuring Joey Badass and The Alchemist. Thanks to new production from the latter, the updated version comes with a more raucous beat and brash verse from Joey.

The reconstructed “Cosmic.m4a” track arrives a week after Denzel and Kenny called on Smino and Robert Glasper to remix “So.Incredible.Pkg” Both songs will appear on Unlocked 1.5, a re-release of the duo’s Unlocked that they announced last week. The news was shared through a trailer with appearances from Glasper, Alchemist, and Georgia Anne Muldrow, who all jumped on a call to discuss the new project. According to the video, fans can expect features from Arlo Parks, Benny The Butcher, Charlie Heat, Kenny Mason, Jay Versace, Sango, and more on Unlocked 1.5.

The new version of “Cosmic.m4a” comes after Denzel recently collaborated with Snot and JID on “Sangria” and “Bruuuh (Remix)” respectively. Kenny Beats has also been active this year as he produced Flo Milli’s latest single, “Roaring 20s.”
