Jack Harlow Explains How Eminem Reached Out To Him For The ‘Killer’ Remix

Jack Harlow‘s had a busy year. After blowing up in 2020 with his runaway hit “What’s Poppin,” he kept the momentum going this year with the release of his debut album, That’s What They All Say, and an appearance on Lil Nas X’s Montero smash “Industry Baby.” In between, he got to live out his dream, working with Eminem on the remix to the rap vet’s single “Killer” alongside Cordae.

While on the red carpet for last night’s MTV VMAs where he was set to perform “Industry Baby” with Lil Nas X, Harlow gave an interview to Billboard‘s Carl Lamarre, explaining how the big-name collaboration came to be. Although he said, “We didn’t get to meet,” he did confirm that Em left him a message that he may end up sharing on a future project. “We had a phone call that meant the world to me,” he recalled, explaining just how much it meant to him. “I haven’t shared it with the world yet, but I can’t wait until the world hears it. He gave me a lot of props that any artist would love to get. Sometimes, the best gem is just somebody you admire, letting you know who you think you are. He let me know, ‘You’re that. You’re dope.’ I’ve waited a decade to hear that. So it was special.”

Harlow was recently the subject of a funny Twitter trend when fans noticed a resemblance to Murda Beatz. You can check that out here.

People Are Hilariously Pointing Out A Resemblance Between Jack Harlow And Producer Murda Beatz

Last summer, Jack Harlow and producer Murda Beatz shared a picture of themselves together in the studio in which they acknowledged their resemblance, something that some have pointed out before. “Step Brothers @jackharlow,” Murda Beatz captioned the picture alongside the hashtag “#WHOSWHO.” At the time, Harlow was continuing his rise in mainstream stardom thanks to the success of his breakout single “What’s Poppin.” Murda Beatz, on the other hand, was becoming one of hip-hop’s prominent producers. A year later, people are once again talking their shocking resemblance.

One person reshared the picture of the two, writing, “The rumours are FALSE Jack Harlow and Murda Beatz are NOT the same person.” The post triggered a boatload of reactions, some sharing their surprise at the news and others questioning how so many people were unaware that Harlow and Murda Beatz are not the same people. “yall really thought murda on the beat was jack harlow. like really?” one person wrote, while another said, “how someone say murda beatz is jack harlow with a blowout.”

Jack Harlow’s Said His Idol Helped Him Realize The Importance Of Self-Awareness As A Musician

Jack Harlow’s rise to fame seemed to happen in a matter of weeks, as the rapper’s “What’s Poppin” single, pushed him from an underground act at the end of 2019 to one of rap’s biggest names in 2020. Despite this, the Lousiville rapper’s rise came after years of hard work and consistent mixtape releases that captured his improving artistry.

During a recent episode of HBO’s The Shop: Uninterrupted, Harlow shared a conversation he had with his idol — a name he refrained from revealed while noting that they are a fellow musician — that was centered on the importance of self-awareness.

“I was talking to one of my idols that I won’t name, but somebody that I grew up idolizing in the same genre, and I asked him you know, ‘What do you attribute your success to? How have you stayed refreshed and why do you think you’re on this run?’” Harlow said during the episode. “He said, ‘You know one thing about most of these rappers when they’re hot, they can tell you everything about what’s going on, they’re tastemakers right? But the one thing most of these guys can’t do is hear themselves. They don’t have the self-awareness to say, ‘Mmm… that’s it or that isn’t it.’”

He added, “So for me it hasn’t always been so much about every shot has to go in. It’s discerning when I missed. I know when I make a record, I know when I sound compelling and I know when I don’t. There’s ego involved in that but I can look at myself, I can hear myself, I’m in the studio, I know when something’s special, and I know when it isn’t.”

Jack Harlow Explains Why He Might Give Up Drinking For The Rest Of 2021

While Jack Harlow‘s star continues to rise in 2021, the Lousiville rapper is making healthier life choices to ensure that he’s able to enjoy his success to the fullest. In a post on Instagram, Harlow revealed that he has stopped drinking alcohol this year, predicting that he might have given it up for good.

“Haven’t had a single sip of alcohol in 2021,” he celebrated. “Going the rest of the year without it. Maybe I’ll never take another sip, who knows?” He continued by revealing just how big of a deal this is for him, writing, “My favorite vice was definitely drinking (I don’t like to smoke) but if I learned anything this year it’s that I don’t need it.”

Next, he admitted that while he’s not much of a sharer on social media, he thought it was an opportune time for a check-in. “I don’t usually say a lot in my captions because it feels like anything worth telling y’all I should just put in my songs…but today felt like a good time for a life update,” he wrote. “I’m really grateful for how far we’ve come and I want you to know I appreciate all of you. But I’m hungrier right now than I’ve ever been. I’m prepared to become a well-oiled machine to take this sh*t to the next level. See you soon.”

Whether that means he’s gotten over his documented hatred of exercise, it’s fun to see a rapper actually enjoying their success and taking steps to keep going with excitement for the future.

Swae Lee And Jack Harlow Declare ‘Ball Is Life’ In Their ‘Madden 22’ Contribution

“Ball Is Life,” Swae Lee‘s contribution to the newly released Madden NFL 22 soundtrack with Jack Harlow, is a bit of a departure from the mostly aggressive, boisterous material from fellow contributors like Tierra Whack and Moneybagg Yo. Instead, it’s a spacey, trap&b head-nodder on which Swae croons about “balling every day” over ethereal synths and booming 808. Harlow comes in on the bridge with his usual rags-to-riches braggadocio.

Swae hasn’t released too many solo singles this year, instead popping up on tracks with PnB Rock and Pink Sweats (“Forever Never“) and Skrillex and Siiickbrain (“Too Bizarre“), and on an episode of FX’s Lil Dicky comedy Dave with his brother Slim Jxmmi. Harlow, though, has had something of a breakout year, dropping his debut album That’s What They All Say to overall positive reception and featuring on songs with some of music’s biggest stars including Eminem (“Killer” remix with Cordae) and Lil Nas X (the controversial “Industry Baby“). He also got to meet Saweetie, which was fun.

Jack Harlow And Pooh Shiesty Get Their ‘SUVs Black On Black’ As Their Breakout Years Continue

As Jack Harlow‘s breakout year continues, he links up with another artist who is having a strong 2021 as well in Pooh Shiesty on the new single “SUVs Black On Black.” Over a heavy 808 and mariachi band sample, the two rappers flex their rags-to-riches narratives with witty boasts like Harlow’s shot that “older women fall for me / I make them press the Life Alert.”

Jack’s been an in-demand feature artist since his song “What’s Poppin’” blew up the airwaves in 2020, joining Lil Nas X in his new video for “Industry Baby.” He also popped up in Babyface Ray’s video for “Paperwork Party” and was tapped by Eminem for the remix of “Killer.” He was also nominated for a BET Award, causing some confusion among fans and bumping into Saweetie and sharing a Twitter-inciting moment.

Meanwhile, Pooh Shiesty was selected to appear on the XXL Freshman cover as his song “Back In Blood” continued to blow up throughout 2020. Unfortunately for him, he was arrested on an aggravated battery charge, then indicted on additional charges after being implicated in a robbery by a post on his Instagram. He was denied bail in both cases, which could cause him trouble as his career continues, but with features alongside G Herbo on “Switch It Up” his should be able to maintain his momentum for at least a while.
