“The Mandalorian” Unveils Two Major Cameos

The Mandalorian is well into its third season on Disney+, with just two episodes left to air. The plot has focused on the planet of Mandalore, home of the eponymous main character. That has allowed the creative team to showcase Mandalore’s unique design, as well as develop some fan-favorite characters. Katie Sachoff’s Bo-Katan, who was introduced in Season 2, has taken on a much more prominent role. Season 3 has seen appearances by Amy Sedaris, as well as the man behind Jar Jar Binks – Ahmed Best.

However, fans were still surprised to see some major celebrities appear in the show’s latest episode. Guns for Hire (Season 3, Episode 6) sees Din Djarin, Grogu, and Bo-Katan travel to the planet Plazir-15 in order to find Bo-Katan’s fleet. On Plazir-15, characters and fans alike were greeted by the planet’s leaders – The Duchess, played by Lizzo, and Captain Bombardier, played by Jack Black. If that wasn’t enough for fans, Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd also appears in the episode.

Fans Mixed On Mandalorian Cameos

After a number of serious, plot-heavy episodes for The Mandalorian, Guns for Hire sought to bring a little levity into the season’s later episodes. Lizzo excels as the larger-than-life Duchess who, much like most of the internet, becomes smitten with Grogu (aka, Baby Yoda). Meanwhile, Jack Black was the perfect choice for the outlandish Captain Bombardier. Fans were also quick to point out that Lizzo “manifested” her cameo by dressing as Grogu for Halloween. Together, they are an over-the-top power couple that serves as a contrast to the serious militarism of Mandalore.

However, early fan reception appears mixed regarding the cameos. While some fans have praised the appearances, others have used the opportunity to criticize Lizzo’s performance and overall acting ability. Meanwhile, some fans have criticized putting such a light-hearted episode so close to the end of the eight-episode season. But despite the detractors, the cameos received a positive reception overall, even if the episode itself was considered a weaker offering. While Lizzo and Jack Black may only be appearing for a single episode, it may be a sign to fans about the direction the show is taking, and the star power it is attracting.

Madonna Tongued Jack Black, Re-Created An NSFW Photo With Lil Wayne, And More In A Wild New Tour Promo Video

Today, Madonna announced The Celebration Tour, a trek that will see Madonna playing hits from across her four-decade career. Madonna, ever the shock-friendly performer, unveiled the news with a wild new video featuring Jack Black, Lil Wayne, Diplo, Judd Apatow, Eric Andre, Amy Schumer, Bob The Drag Queen, Kate Berlant, Larry Owens, and Meg Stalter.

The five-minute clip features a truth-or-dare game between the celebrities as they sit around a table. Madonna kicks things off by daring Schumer to simulate how she would lick her husband’s butt, which she does by not doing it. Andre then dared Diplo to dip his balls in his margarita and drink it, and he obliged. Diplo then turned the tables back on Madonna, who he instructed to “tongue-kiss” Black, and indeed, she did just that.

There are some more shenanigans from there — including Madonna, Wayne, and Black posing for a racy photo — but the whole thing ends with one final dare, from Schumer to Madonna: to go on a world tour. Of course, given the purpose of the video, Madonna accepted.

In a statement, Madonna said of the upcoming trek, “I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for.”

Jack Black Personally Called Meat Loaf To Ask Him To Play His Dad In The ‘Tenacious D’ Movie

Meat Loaf is obviously a legendary singer. His operatic vocals were a mainstay in my car as a teenager; you couldn’t go 10 minutes without hearing “Bat Out of Hell,” or “You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night),” or “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad,” or “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” (all from the same album!) on the radio. Not that I minded: his high-brow sleaze was a much-needed break from Foreigner and the Eagles.

But Meat Loaf, who sadly passed away at 74 years old this week, was also a talented actor, appearing in movies as diverse as The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Spice World, Fight Club, and Focus (which he called his best work), but my personal favorite is Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. It’s a short scene in the 2006 film where he plays young Jack Black’s god-fearing, rock-hating dad during “Kickapoo,” but it rules. He belts out lyrics like, “You’ll become a mindless puppet / Beelzebub will pull the strings,” and it’s not every day you get a song with Meat Loaf and Ronnie James Dio.

In 2006, Meat Loaf told MTV how his role in the Tenacious D movie came together. “For five years, Jack Black has been saying he wanted me to play his father. In every interview he did he always [said], ‘I’m gonna make the movie Tenacious D, and I want to make Meat Loaf play my father.’ Every interview,” he said. “And my daughters, Pearl and Amanda, they kept reading it and [would] call and say, ‘Jack said it again, Jack said it again.’ I said, ‘When he calls me, I’ll tell him I’ll do it.’ He did call. He called me himself.”

Black was the original choice to play the “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” singer in the VH1 made-for-TV movie Meat Loaf: To Hell and Back, but then there was a scheduling conflict and Black got mega-famous. Meat Loaf wasn’t upset, though:

I just saw him in movies that he had done, and I had heard some stuff from Tenacious D. I said, “This is the guy to play me. He’s got the energy, and he understands it.” He was going to [play me], then his career took off and [this] movie got postponed. He tried, and I said, “Well, the guy’s an idiot if he does it.” I said, “Let me see — a studio picture over the Meat Loaf story? Let me think about that for a minute. Gee, I don’t know, that’s a hard decision.”

The movie can still happen: cast Jack Black as Meat Loaf and Kyle Gass as Jim Steinman. I’d run to the theater to see that like a bat out of hell.
