At the 26:55 mark in their talk, Sean reflects with Charlamagne about the beginning stages of what has turned into be quite the successful career in music.

According to HipHopDX, he tears up remembering a point in which he was unsure about pursuing this dream of becoming a rapper. He starts off by going back to his high school days when he made a list that had the top five labels he would want to be on. “I had found this list before I rapped for Ye that I wrote down. I was lightweight into it, but I was just busy… [The] list said ‘G.O.O.D. Music, No.1. 2 Roc-A-Fella. No. 3 Shady Records. 4 Grand Hustle. No. 5 Interscope.’” Sean later added, “G.O.O.D. Music was number one, and I saw that, and I was on that path. It was one of them omens, it was just one little thing I needed to realize, ‘I can do this, bro. I met Ye and rapped for him. He said he wanted to sign me.’”

Big Sean’s Career Turned Out Just Fine In The End

In that time, bro, in that one year, I was so depressed that I just wanted to give up bad”. Because of this, he even began to consider community college, and his grandma was in agreement. However, things changed in his head once his mom convinced him to keep pushing. “I just remember my mom being like, ‘What are you doing?’ It was a moment, dawg”. That’s when Sean began to tear up and thank her for being a believer. “I’m just thankful I had these guardian angels in my life, like my mom, just coming in the form of anything”.

50 Cent Dishes on Previous Fat Joe Beef, Drake vs. Kendrick and More

image

50 Cent is buzzing lately. From his acquisition of a huge production studio lot in Luisiana to trolling Rick Ross while in Toronto to his successful Final Lap tour that’s been all over the world. To cap off recent success and reflection, the “In da Cub” rapper turned mogul had a wide ranging cover story interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Curtis Jackson, went in on his past feuds with fellow rappers Fat Joe and even Cam’ron, if you remember that and admitted that beefing wasted too much time, driven by his competitive nature.

“Look, I think we wasted too much time arguing, me and Fat Joe, me and Cam’ron,” said the 49-year-old rapper. “There’s other guys like Jada[kiss], we cleared it up easier. But we wasted time because it was just the competitive nature. It wasn’t like we crossed paths and had real heat for each other.”

50 Cent, further explained that his prolonged feud with Fat Joe, 53, stemmed from their similar personalities. “When we’re at odds, we are at odds, and we did that for a long time,” he stated. “And because of his loyalty to Irv [Gotti] and Ja [Rule] because he worked with them, I was seeing him not be happy from the things that were making me happy.”

The G-Unit films honcho continued, “It’s easy for me to say, ‘F— you,’ if what makes me happy makes you unhappy, then we’re not on the same page and it turns into some s—, and I couldn’t pinpoint what exactly happened.”

Check this, despite their long-standing issues, 50 Cent revealed there was no specific incident that sparked the feud. “Now he’s like my friend, and I don’t care that he has relationships with people that I don’t, because he’s always had those relationships,” he added.

Get this tidbit, 50 Cent also touched on his ongoing feud with Ja Rule, noting that they’ve never spoken. Additionally, he discussed the rivalry between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, highlighting the competitive nature of hip-hop. Wait. 50 Cent NEVER SPOKE TO JA RULE BEFORE? HUH? Well, sheesh. Imagine if they had.

“This is hip-hop. I think it’s competitive to a degree, obviously. Even Drake, his position and the attitude and his choices, those are 50 Cent choices. ‘F— it, everybody got to get it then.’ When it becomes Drake versus Kendrick, it’s because it’s the only thing you can put up against Drake’s success,” he said. Makes perfect sense.

He smartly acknowledged the backlash from some that Drake faces is due to his success but dismissed the idea that it would harm Drake’s career. “I don’t see a loss for Drake,” 50 Cent remarked. “The people who bought Drake material are going to buy Drake material when his next song comes out. Now, the shit that I do, it ruins your whole f—ing career.”

Hey 50, you’re probably right about that.

Joe Budden Goes In On Tory Lanez Criminal Case With Thoughts On The Megan Thee Stallion, Key Witnesses and More

Joe Budden Blasts ‘Fresh & Fit’ Podcast: “I See Why They Hate Some of You Having Microphones”

Joe Budden’s has reentered the Tory Lanez and Megan Thee Stallion chat. On a recent episode of the Joe Budden Podcast, Budden and his co-hosts decide to revisit the case where Lanez was convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

So here’s the why … Lanez’s legal team recently tried to introduce new evidence, claiming that Jauquan Smith, who was driving Lanez on the night of the shooting, saw Megan’s ex-friend Kelsey Harris holding a gun. This evidence was rejected, prompting Budden to share his perspective.

“I believe he is ill-tempered. I do believe he is ill-tempered,” Budden said. “I’ve never seen a celebrity shoot somebody for less. People that have a lot going on. He had a lot going on, one of the hottest artists out. Now, not as successful as her [Megan Thee Stallion] at the time. But I’m pressed to believe that.” That’s his take. Not a fact. But let’s continue.

Budden continued, “In the heated moment, why is Tory heated? Somebody tell me why Tory Lanez is heated in that moment. I pop you, I pop you, I’m the one who wants to tell about it.”

Before you read into that, Budden clarified that Megan Thee Stallion might not have fabricated her account but suggested that others could have influenced the narrative. “Well, first of all, I think this is above her,” Budden remarked when questioned about Megan lying. “I don’t think she made it up. She is a mere pawn in this. This play is greater than her. She didn’t make nothing up. I ain’t gonna say who I think made it up. But it wasn’t her.”

Now get this, Budden also discussed Megan’s former best friend Kelsey Nicole, and her name was the point of focus during the trial, and was involved in the incident.

He mentioned that Kelsey reached out to him previously, urging him not to discuss the case. “Ni**a know out there who it is, I ain’t saying it on the broadcast. But I know exactly who it is, I know how that gun got there, I know whose gun it was. And I thought it was weird the last time we talked about this sh*t, Kelsey jumped in my DMs, talking about, ‘Aye, don’t talk about this sh*t no more.’ Why? You got immunity. It’s odd … Just odd. Why wouldn’t you want someone to talk about one of the biggest cases in however many years? I think this is a scary state if that’s what we think of Black men. It’s a really scary state. You just took somebody in the top 5% and said he’ll shoot somebody because of male ego.”

Oh and Budden kept going. He further distinguished between scuffles and the act of shooting, which he described as his main issue with Megan’s account: “Scuffled and recklessness is still different than ‘he shot me,’ which has been my beef with Megan this whole time.”

ICYMI, in August 2023, Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Following the ruling by a jury of his peers, Lanez attorney filed several appeals. In June, Lanez’s wife, Raina Chassagne, filed for divorce. Megan Thee Stallion, currently on tour with GloRilla, recently encountered Lanez supporters and appeared uncomfortable. Despite Lanez’s conviction, artists like Drake, Fivio Foreign, Chris Brown, and Meek Mill have shown support for him.

LL Cool J Annoyed With Rappers Who Only Make Music About Money Says “The Wallet Can’t Un-Corny You.”

image

Rap icon, LL Cool J, recently voiced his frustration with the current trend of rappers focusing solely on bread in their music. Basically thinks all that repetitive money talk is getting old, tired and outright whack. Maybe we’re embellishing a bit but you get the gist.

It all went down during an interview with Baller Alert, where the “Around the Way Girl” rapper turned NCIS actor went in on his peers for their narrow lyrical content, saying:

”When a rapper comes out, and he’s talking that money talk, you love it. But 12 years later, he’s still talking that money talk, and now you’re looking at him like, ‘Dude, do you have anything else to talk about?’”

LL Cool J is no spring chicken who’s been in a many GOAT conversations so he has the right to make his points on any and all things Hip Hop. At 56, he emphasized the importance of meaningful lyrics, citing Bob Marley as an example:

”He talked about something. He had something to say. And guess what? You don’t care what Bob Marley had in the bank. Because that’s not the metric for success. It’s not the metric for cultural success. Bob Marley did not have to be rich. He was rich in what he did and what he created and what he put in the world. That s**t matters,” he went on to explain.

LL added, “The wallet can’t un-corny you.” Boom, that part.

If you need a history lesson, LL Cool J, born James Todd Smith, achieved commercial success with his debut single “I Need A Beat” in 1984. He continued to release hits like “I Need Love,” “I’m Bad,” and “Mama Said Knock You Out.”

ICYMI, in 2021, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his significant contributions to music. We listed a few. Basically, he’s a star, and like we said, in the GOAT conversation for a multitude of reasons and if he thinks a lot of these so called rappers are corny then maybe he has a point.

Tory Lanez’s Lawyers Seek New Trial After Convicted Rapper’s Driver Signals He Did Not See Who Shot Megan Thee Stallion

Screen Shot 2024 07 29 at 4.11.40 PM

Tory Lanez’s defense team is aggressively seeking a new trial after his driver, Jauquan Smith, submitted an affidavit claiming he did not see who shot Megan Thee Stallion in the 2020 incident. What does this mean for Tory’s case? Hard to say at this juncture but it usually takes new evidence to be granted a new trial and or to win an appeal. This might be a mitigating factor to support their request.

See, defense counsel is saying Smith alleged that the prosecution did not allow him to testify during Lanez’s 2022 trial. We can’t jump out the window with this assertion but if true, this could mean the likelihood Lanez receives a new trial just got a boost.

Okay, so about that affidavit … We won’t get too deep into the legal jargon but Smith essentially stated that he witnessed Megan’s former friend, Kelsey Harris, holding a gun during a fight between Megan and Harris. Now to be clear, Smith did not see who fired the weapon, he noted that Lanez attempted to disarm Harris:

“Ms. Pete [Megan] and Ms. Harris began fighting. I pulled over to stop them. Ms. Pete and Ms. Harris both got out of the vehicle and continued to fight, both verbally and physically. I broke up this fight and was pulling Ms. Pete toward the back of the car. I saw Ms. Harris with a gun in her hand. Mr. Peterson [Lanez] ran from behind Ms. Pete and myself toward Ms. Harris. Mr. Peterson and Ms. Harris began struggling as Mr. Peterson tried to unarm Ms. Harris. I was still pulling Ms. Pete and did not see who shot the weapon,” Smith explained in the affidavit.

Hold up, hold up … The plot thickens, ya’ll …

Smith went on to claim:

“I wanted to present this evidence during Mr. Peterson’s trial but was prevented from doing so as the District Attorney was not ready to cross-examine me, and later they did not call me back due to the holidays and the court schedule. I believe I should have been allowed to present this evidence at trial.”

See if you see where this going, Lanez’s defense team is arguing that Smith’s testimony is crucial and warrants a new trial. That’s up for debate, obviously.

As expected California prosecutors have contested this request. The prosecution highlights that Lanez’s former attorney chose not to call Smith as a witness due to concerns about his bias and the repetitive nature of his testimony. We were wondering when that part would come into play. Why didn’t the defense just, um, call him as a witness?

Here’s what Deputy Attorney General Michael C. Keller stated on the matter:

”Given these circumstances, defense counsel conceded that Smith would not have been a helpful witness because of his bias and the cumulative nature of his proffered testimony.”

ICYMI, Lanez was in fact found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, illegal possession of a firearm, and negligent discharge of a gun in the 2022 trial. In 2023, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Real time. Real years. Easy to see why his team will keep fighting for their client.

By the way, Tory is dropping music from behind bars. “Prison Tapes” are hitting all platforms every Friday. No BS, and despite his legal peril, it’s hard to argue that the music isn’t good. Sorry ya’ll. It is what it is.

Yungeen Ace Swears To DJ Akademiks That He Won’t Diss Foolio

It seems like getting a solid read on Yungeen Ace’s relationship with the now late rapper Foolio will never happen. No matter what positivity he shows toward his counterpart, Chicago-born MC is always going to have some eyebrows raised. For example, just about a week ago, the now Jacksonville native hopped on an Instagram Live session with his followers in which people were asking him about Foolio. Ace pointed out sad and tragic his passing was, as well as how they were supposedly cooler with each other behind closed doors. This led fans to make numerous comparisons to how King Von was when FBG Duck was murdered. It’s worth mentioning that the alleged killer of Foolio was accusing Yungeen Ace as the one who put the hit on him.

However, he has not been charged in any capacity. But going back to the IG Live clip, DJ Akademiks reposted it to his account. Assumedly, Ace and the hip-hop sleuth had some conversations because a recent interview between them has just come out. Of course, Foolio was the main topic of discussion and during their chat. Throughout their sit-down, the “Ready To Die” MC continued to say more positive things about him.

Yungeen Ace Doesn’t Disrespect The Dead

In the clip above, Akademiks asks him if he’s going to continue to diss Foolio, to which he vowed, “No… can’t be doing that bout the dead”. Ace then went onto say how he used to listen to his music “back in the day” after Ak called him out for originally saying he didn’t. He even pointed out how Ace and Foolio used to be friends. But he shut that down, saying they weren’t really that tight, but that he did try to play some one-on-one basketball in Los Angeles. However, he claims Foolio turned down the offer. Overall, Ace was pretty all over the place, which seems to further highlight their checkered past.

Tony Yayo Calls Ja Rule An “Industry Plant” Who He Will “Never” Respect

Tony Yayo once again showed why G-Unit and Ja Rule will never reconcile. In an interview with DJ Vlad, Yayo and Vlad had a discussion about the greatest rapper of all time. Dr. Dre recently called Eminem the greatest to ever do it. Yayo co-signed Dre’s opinion, adding that he had Em in his top five, but couldn’t disagree with Dre’s opinion. He talked about the value of statistics, mentioning that Eminem is still breaking records nearly a quarter of a century into his mainstream career. He uttered a familiar phrase: “men lie, women lie, numbers don’t,” suggesting a belief that commercial success is the greatest measure of a rapper’s status in the industry.

The conversation between Vlad and Tony Yayo went from the greatest rapper of all time to Yayo creating his Mount Rushmore of Queens rappers. The two of them went through a list. They did not quite settle on a Mount Rushmore, but Vlad was quick to note that Ja Rule’s name did not come up. Vlad argued that Ja should be in conversations over the Lost Boys. Especially if one of Yayo’s own measures for success is how well one performs commercially. For a period, Ja Rule was among the most popular rappers around, along with DMX, OutKast, Eminem, and of course, 50 Cent.

Tony Yayo Insults Ja Rule, Again

“He was like the industry plant early, Ja Rule […],” said Tony Yayo in the clip. “Ja Rule was a buster to me. I don’t know him. He’s from the other side of town. He’s a buster to me, and he’s still a buster. Irv [Gotti]’s a buster, Irv’s brother’s a buster, and they’re all busters to me.” When questioned about Ja’s ability to sell records at his peak, Yayo responded by calling him a buster again. He disregarded his sales and reiterated that the Lost Boys deserve to be on that list instead of him.

Tony Yayo’s response is not surprising. The 50 Cent-led G-unit camp and Ja Rule have had issues for over twenty years. 50, along with Eminem, contributed greatly to ending Ja’s run as a commercially viable rapper, with a series of diss tracks that kneecapped his credibility. Em once again took aim at him on The Death of Slim Shady. With this interview, Yayo is the latest 50 Cent affiliate to remind fans that the participants in this long-running beef will probably never reach a truce.

Kehlani Tells Story of “Diabolical” Ex Caught Cheating 10 Years Ago

Kehlani

So who cheated on Kehlani and why was the affair “diabolical?” During an interview with Nessa on Hot 97, Kehlani opened up about their new song Better Not from the album Crash and recounted a shocking incident involving an ex.

Get this, Nessa described the track as “alarming,” referencing the lyrics:

“I almost died the night when I caught you in somebody’s Benz (Ooh, ooh) / I better not catch you doing that sh”t again / And you’re not wrong, ’cause you’re not mine / I would choose this dance with you in every life / Though we’re just a little more than friends / I better not catch you doing that sh”t again.”

I mean the bars are kind of alarming …

When asked about the craziest thing they’ve ever witnessed, Kehlani shared a startling experience:

“This is actually psychotic. It’s actually diabolical. I found a stack of Polaroids of all the women that he cheated on me with. He was keeping them in Polaroid form in his travel bag,” they revealed to Nessa.

Here’s where it gets weird.

Kehlani explained that they discovered the Polaroids while trying to clean up during a trip out of town.

“I was putting things away,” they said. In fairness, at the time, Kehlani was just 19 or 20 years old and reacted differently than they would today. “I was not the girl I am today that would be like, ‘Yo. Wow.’ I was definitely like, ‘Oh my God. Terrifying.’ And I threw them away. He never mentioned it to me and I never said anything. But there were crazier things that happened in that situation, so it checks out.”

Who do ya’ll think it was? 10 years or so ago. Do the math and let us know.

Shouts to Sean Paul. He’s so real.”

I want it to be short. I don’t want it to be this super long phrase.” It was going to go either way. It was going to be super long phrase or one word. There was no in between for me.”
