Lil Wayne Reflects On Skating With Meek Mill And Drake

In a recent Interview Magazine feature, Lil Wayne had a conversation with professional skateboarder Tony Hawk. The two discussed skating, and Lil Wayne shared some funny stories. He revealed that after he installed a quarterpipe outside of the Hit Factory in Miami, Meek Mill took a spill while trying to drop in.

I couldn’t stop Meek Mill, though. I had a quarter pipe in Miami in the parking lot of a studio called the Hit Factory,” Lil Wayne explained, “A lot of artists record there, so when they would pull up, they’d be like, ‘What is that?’ Some of them don’t know what a quarter pipe is.” He went on, “So he stood at the top, skateboard ready, lifted up like he’s about to drop in. I’m like, ‘Please don’t, man.’ He’s like, ‘Nah, man. I ride bikes all day. This can’t be nothing.’ I’m like, ‘It’s not the same.’ And of course, he totally fell and taught himself a lesson about that. I tried to stop him.”

Lil Wayne Says He Won’t Let Drake Even “Attempt” To Skate

Lil Wayne also revealed that he tries to discourage Drake from skateboarding at all, due to the artist’s “cluminess.” He explains, “Drake has been on the scene at a park with a skateboard in his hand, and we’ve all quickly stopped him, like, ‘Don’t even attempt it,’ because he’s a very clumsy guy.”

Lil Wayne continues, “Drake hurts himself by just performing, and he’ll get real injuries. He’ll be on crutches the next day, and you be like, ‘Wait, all you did was fall onstage, right?’” He adds, “So he’s one of those guys. But he plays basketball a lot, so I think that has a lot to do with why he gets hurt. But as far as him on the board and me trying to get him to skate? No.”

Murphy Lee Says St. Lunatics Were “Threatened” Into Signing To Universal

In a recent interview with VladTV, Murphy Lee opened up about his group St. Lunatics signing to Universal. He explained that the group was advised to sign with them because was the same label the group’s frontman, Nelly, was signed to at the time. He revealed that “threats” surrounding the use of Nelly’s vocals was a major influence in the group’s decision-making process. “That was a major lil moment for us,” he explained, “Probably should’ve held out for a second and shopped it.”

Murphy Lee continued, “We wasn’t tied into that. I think we got threatened with, ‘You might not be able to get Nelly cleared if y’all go somewhere else’ type of thing.” The artist went on to say, “I don’t think they thugged us out. I think it was a natural thing. It was more so with lawyers. I think they was thinking like that. Because the lawyers represented us and Nelly and it was more so like when he was shopping the deal.” According to Murphy Lee, the group was allegedly told that they may have clearance issues with Nelly’s contributions if they went with another label.

Murphy Lee Says They “Probably Should’ve Held Out”

“It was like a suggestion, like, ‘Yeah, we can go somewhere else, like at the same time, y’all might not be able to clear it because he’s so big,’” Lee continued. “We probably should’ve made more a demand for two seconds we went right into it we were so happy.” Back in 2021, another former member of St. Lunatics, Ali, accused Nelly of abandoning the group. He took to social media to claim that he fought for Nelly’s verse on “Gimme What Ya Got,” despite the label wanting it removed. He also went on to claim that he turned down a solo record deal in favor of sticking with St. Lunatics. “Some kind of way I ended up going …I ended up helping him write … but got no credit!! Wow !! I got hustled !!” the artist said.

Nelly later responded to the claims, writing, “There’s three people in this group that’s been a lunatic since day one: Nelly, Kyjuan, and City [Spud].” He explained, “We all went to school together. Alright? Cool. When we first started the Lunatics, Ali was not in this group. Stop me when I’m lying.” Nelly added, “When we was going around town making a name for ourselves, doing the car wash, performing at the talent shows at [colleges], that was us, that wasn’t Ali. Ali did not perform with us. Either he thought he was too good or he didn’t perform with us. Either way, he did not perform with us. Just factuals. Actual factuals.

Jackson discussed his experience working alongside the late Tupac on the 1992 film Juice. “It was great,” he said before revealing that his wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, confronted Tupac one day on set. My wife grabbed him and was like, ‘Young man, you see all these women sittin’ in here? You can’t be in here cursin.’” Jackson also revealed that when asked if she was aware of who she had just scolded, she replied, “No, I have no idea who he was, but he shouldn’t have been cursing in front of all these women in this room.” Jackson says, “From that point on, every time he saw her, he was like, ‘Hey mom, how you doin?’”

Lil Wayne Sounded Too Much Like Jay-Z, Birdman Allegedly Thought

The greatest artists in the world can be as inspired by their favorite artists as the rest of us mortals, especially early into their careers. While things have changed a lot for him since then, that was once the case for Lil Wayne– or, at least, Birdman thought so. Moreover, Weezy recently revealed to Rolling Stone that Stunna once chastised him for sounding too much like Jay-Z, a weird comparison with today’s context in mind. Still, as two of the greatest rappers still walking across the planet today, maybe it shouldn’t be so surprising. Furthermore, the New Orleans legend told the publication the story when asked whether he listens to any hip-hop these days.

“When it comes to rap, I don’t listen to no one,” Lil Wayne revealed. “I just don’t have time to, because I’m trying to get better every day. I tell my own artist that, too. When you find a favorite artist, you’re going to start sounding like them. It took Birdman and them to pull my a** aside and be like, ‘Bro, I’m tired of every song you doing sounding like damn Jay-Z. You’re not Jay-Z.’”

Then, the interviewer asked Tunechi how that made him feel in the moment. “Yeah, I was glad it was working,” he responded with a laugh. “That’s like, ‘Oh, good, it’s working.’” And it worked all the way to one of the most legendary, acclaimed, and commercially successful careers in the genre. Elsewhere during their conversation, Lil Wayne shared a lot of gems, interesting takes, and surprising revelations. For example, he explained not really being able to tell Tha Carters apart.

“I’m going to be so honest with you: I don’t know Tha Carter IIITha Carter IITha Carter One from Tha Carter IV. And that’s just my God’s honest truth. You could lie, you could ask me [about] such and such song, I wouldn’t even know what we talking about. So it holds no significance to me at all. I don’t even know if [2008 is] when Tha Carter III came out. That’s how much I don’t know, I work every day, bro- every single day. I always look at it as the curse part of the gift and the curse. I believe that [God] blessed me with this amazing mind, but would not give [me] an amazing memory to remember this amazing s**t.” For the latest news and updates on Lil Wayne, come back to HNHH.

Tyler, The Creator Says His Debut Album Is “Terrible”

During a recent appearance on the Rap Radar Podcast, Tyler, The Creator shared his thoughts on his first studio album, Goblin. Fans may be disappointed to hear that the artist‘s debut effort isn’t anywhere close to his favorite, however, he does say it continues to hold a special place in his heart. “Goblin is f*cking terrible,” he explains, “But I still love it.”

He continues, “It’s an energy and an aura that it has. And hearing my wonky synths, and gross drums, and me not realizing I’m yelling on every song and saying the most wild shit is what got people there. It’s not about the music. If you were there, that energy and that aura and that air just cutting through what everyone else is doing is so important.” He goes on to say, “It’s still some ones on there. I still think, ‘Yonkers,’ is awesome. ‘She’ is awesome. The first two versions of ‘Nightmare’ is ill, ‘Tron Cat’ is still awesome. ‘Analog’ is still cool, like there’s still a few things on there but people don’t know like, a lot of songs on that album were just like, random songs I recorded after Goblin that we kinda just, yeah here I got these songs.”

Tyler, The Creator Still Loves Goblin

Tyler, The Creator also shared details of his experience attending Jay-Z’s annual Pre-Grammy Roc Nation Brunch in February during the appearance. “Illest part of the Roc Nation Brunch, I went for three reasons. I always wanted to go just ’cause I never went,” he revealed, “Two, I was curious what food they had there. And three, I wanted to see how many times I could be called ‘king.’ I counted nine.” He went on, “And the illest part is Jay let me park my BMW right in the front. Everybody else had to shuttle. He let me park it right in front in the hills. Probably top four moments I’ve ever felt cool. Like, the textbook cool.”

He did, however, share that having priority parking at the event had one major downside. He explained, “My homie sent me two weeks ago Christian Combs’ Instagram and these motherf*ckers had a photo shoot with my car in front of the God damn Roc Nation! And I saw Christian last night and I shoulda told him, ‘N***a, don’t sit on my God damn car!’ I like Christian, I’m just saying, but that was ill.”

Lil Wayne Says “Tha Carter III” “Holds No Significance” To Him

Lil Wayne recently discussed the impact of his sixth studio album, Tha Carter III. Despite the fact that the 2008 LP was a massive success, he revealed that it doesn’t really hold a special place for him. Though the album likely stands out to his fans, he says he can hardly remember it.

“I’m going to be so honest with you: I don’t know Tha Carter IIITha Carter IITha Carter One from Tha Carter IV. And that’s just my God’s honest truth,” he told Rolling Stone. “You could lie, you could ask me [about] such and such song, I wouldn’t even know what we talking about. So it holds no significance to me at all.” When the rapper was asked about the success the album received in 2008, he explained, “I don’t even know if that’s when Tha Carter III came out. That’s how much I don’t know. I work every day, bro — every single day.” He went on to share, “I always look at it as the curse part of the gift and the curse. I believe that [God] blessed me with this amazing mind, but would not give [me] an amazing memory to remember this amazing sh*t.”

The rapper also shared that his Tha Carter series is “Not a favorite at all” for him. He says, “My favorite song is the last one I record. And then I will forget it after the next one I record.” Lil Wayne described how “Every single action, every single word, every single approach,” is motivated by his desire to be known as the best rapper alive. “The reason why I’m still only listening and working on my own shit is because I’m in it. I believe once you start trying to listen to everybody else, you ain’t in it no more. You just happy to be here. But not me. I’m in a gym working on my own game,” he explained.

Lil Wayne also discussed his feelings surrounding a hypothetical Super Bowl halftime performance during the interview. “We wouldn’t even worry about the game after that,” he described. “Everybody knew that one kid [who] was watching the halftime show, but that’d be one of the first Super Bowls that they’ll be like, ‘Both teams were out on the field watching the halftime show.’”

Lil Wayne On “Verzuz”: Rapper Believes Only Worthy Opponent Is Himself

As he finishes up the first year of his 40s, Lil Wayne looks to be feeling more confident in himself than ever before. It was just a few weeks ago when the Louisana native declared himself to be “the best rapper alive” during a performance. Elsewhere in 2023 we also saw him sit down with Missy Elliott, at which time he reflected on the earlier days of his career when he put out over 100 features in 2007 alone.

Back then, Weezy said he couldn’t switch to any radio station in the car without hearing one of his songs. “That was an amazing moment and an amazing time. I remember being able to get into my car and turn on the radio. I don’t care if I got the station wrong, could’ve switched to a pop station by mistake, I’m still on that motherf*cker!” he humble-bragged to Elliott during their chat. In his latest interview, this one with Rolling Stone, Wayne’s confident attitude continued to shine.

When asked about who his ideal Verzuz competitor is, the “How to Love” hitmaker made it clear that he’s not one for facing off against anyone but himself. “I was interested in Mixtape Weezy going against Lil Wayne,” he teased. “That would’ve been crazy,” the legendary lyricist added before confirming he meant he aspires to split his discography’s greatest hits in half between the two eras we’ve seen him deliver over the years. “What other artists you think?” Wayne asked the outlet.

“There ain’t no other artist that can stand on the stage next to me, bro,” he further declared. “I’m sorry.” As Complex notes, Weezy discussed another interesting idea for the singing competition show last November, suggesting that his Young Money roster could show out against a few Roc-A-Fella alumni in the future. Fat Joe Says He Listens To Biggie Every Single Day

Fat Joe has expressed his deep admiration for The Notorious B.I.G. In a new interview, he said that he listens to at least one song from the late Brooklyn legend every day. The recent interview, which took place with Angie Martinez for Iconic Records, features Fat Joe revealing some interesting tidbits about his past and connection to Biggie. He revealed how he facilitated the collaboration between Biggie and Bone Thugs N Harmony for the track “Notorious Thugs.” Futhermore, he recalled receiving the devastating news of Biggie’s passing. However, he went on to emphasize the impact the iconic rapper had on New York City.

According to Fat Joe, Biggie’s death left a lasting void in the hearts of New Yorkers. He described Biggie as the symbol, the essence, and a beloved figure of the entire city, not just Brooklyn. Joe also admitted that the loss of Biggie continues to evoke a bitter feeling. Still, he says that he finds solace in listening to Biggie’s music. According to Joe, it brings him joy and serves as a reminder of the late rapper’s greatness. “It’s always going to give us a bitter taste. We’re never going to get over it,” Joe said. “Every time I have a good time — if I’m on a yacht, if I’m celebrating life — anytime I want to feel good, I put on Biggie Smalls. I hear a Biggie Smalls song every single day of my life.”

Fat Joe And His Role In Biggie’s Career

This isn’t the first time Fat Joe has shared the story of how he played a role in bringing Biggie and Bone Thugs N Harmony together for the collaboration. In a throwback picture posted on social media, the MC revealed that Biggie personally reached out to him. He allegedly requested the involvement of Bone Thugs N Harmony on a song. The resulting track, “Notorious Thugs,” became an iconic moment in hip-hop history. Steve Lobel, who managed Bone Thugs N Harmony, confirmed Fat Joe’s contribution to the collaboration during an interview in 2015. He stated that Joe played a vital role in connecting the artists.

“Notorious Thugs” is the opening track on the second disc of Biggie’s album Life After Death. “Fat Joe calls me and says ‘[Puff Daddy] is gonna call you. I think Puff had called Fat Joe because he knew I used to work with Fat Joe and we were really tight,” Lobel said of the situation. “I worked with Fat Joe, also Big Pun. Puff called and said, ‘Big’s at the Record Plant he want to do a song with Bone.’ I said ‘Ok, let me round these guys up.’” The rest is history. What do you think of Fat Joe’s opinion on Biggie’s impact? Let us know in the comments below!
