Run The Jewels & Noname Among 600+ Musicians Calling For Israel Boycott

Following the United Nations Human Rights Council’s announcement that it would launch an international investigation into the recent 11-day Israel-Palestine crisis to determine whether Israel and Hamas were guilty of war crimes, a vast amount of artists within the music industry have decided to boycott Israel and refrain from performing in the Middle Eastern country in support of Palestine.

A Palestinian flag is waved during a Rally on May 22, 2021 in Melbourne, Australia. Rallies were organised across Australia to protest against the recent violence in Israel and the Gaza strip. A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza started on Friday, following 11 days of rocket attacks.

As official authorities dedicated resources to the Israel-Palestine crisis, Nicolas Jaar and Iraqi-Canadian rapper Narcy have organized #MusiciansForPalestineand they have already gathered support from some of the biggest acts in the music industry.

According to Complex, the list of over 600 musicians who signed the letter includes musicians such as Run the Jewels, Talib Kweli, Noname, Rage Against the Machine, Questlove, Black Thought, Bun B, Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, Majid Jordan, A-Trak, Cypress Hill, Digable Planets, Belly, and Julian Casablancas of the Strokes, among countless others.

In addition the Israel boycott, #MusiciansForPalestine have also issued the following statement:

In solidarity and empathy, as musicians, we cannot be silent. We are calling on our peers to publicly assert their solidarity with the Palestinian people. Complicity with Israeli war crimes is found in silence, and today silence is not an option. Silence is not an option as the brutal Israeli bombardment of besieged Gaza claimed more than 245 lives in the last weeks.

Today, we speak together and demand justice, dignity, and the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people and all who are fighting colonial dispossession and violence across the planet. We call for you to join us with your name in refusing to perform at Israel’s complicit cultural institutions, and by standing firm in your support of the Palestinian people and their human right to soverignty and freedom. We believe this is crucial to one day live in a world without segregation and apartheid. Free Palestine.”

Serge Ibaka’s Injury Status Updated Ahead Of Pivotal Game 3

Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks came into their first-round matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers as underdogs. In the first two games, the team was able to flip that script as they came away with huge wins in Los Angeles. Now, the Mavericks are coming home with a 2-0 series lead, and NBA fans are hoping that the Mavericks can pull off the upset. As for the Clippers, they need all hands on deck to mount a comeback, and players like Serge Ibaka are crucial for such a run.

Unfortunately, Ibaka won’t be playing tonight as he is suffering from a back problem, according to Yahoo! Sports. Clippers fans have been clamoring for Ty Lue to give Ibaka more playing time and tonight could have been that opportunity. Now, the Clippers will have to operate without one of their best defensive players.

Throughout the series, the Clippers’ star players have been solid however it simply hasn’t been enough for the team to get any wins. With Lue facing criticism from pundits and fans alike, it will be interesting to see how he finesses lineup considering he is down a man.

If you want to watch Game 3, it will take place tonight at 9:30 PM EST.

Nicki Minaj Throws LeBron An Alley Oop Following His Rap Mount Rushmore Hot Take

One of the latest online Hip-Hop debates has gained a lot of traction over the past couple of days, and as a result, the discussion surrounding who would make the cut for a hypothetical rap Mount Rushmore has transitioned from simple Twitter fodder to an ongoing media story. For those unfamiliar with the tweet that prompted responses from celebrities like LeBron James and Nicki Minaj, see below.

The viral tweet that creatively positioned Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole on the Mount Rushmore of 2010s Hip-Hop has so far earned itself 8.9k retweets, 2.7k replies, and 5.7k likes. However, it’s the celebrity responses that have made the debate even more exciting. Yesterday, Nicki Minaj commented on the original tweet with a vague “wow,” and today, LeBron James dove head-first into the debate and declared that the final spot was owed to none other than Future Hendrix.

LeBron’s hot take was enough to send Twitter Hip-Hop enthusiasts into a tizzy, and surprisingly, it even inspired a response from Nicki. “Never thought I’d get the opportunity to give you the alley oop,” the Beam Me Up Scotty rapper jokes before officially claiming the last spot as her own. “But you almost had it. It’s N I C K I…EMMMM I N A J!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

While Nicki’s reply to LeBron is comical in tone, there is plenty of legitimacy in her claim that she deserves to be one of the four greatest rappers from the previous decade. All four of her albums have landed within the top 10 spots on the Billboard 200, and both her debut and sophomore albums reached the number one position. In that same time frame, Nicki racked up the vast majority of her 118 Billboard Hot 100 hits. Furthermore, Nicki has also inspired an entire generation of female rappers, so it would be hard to justify leaving her off of this highly contentious 2010s Mount Rushmore.

With that said, which four artists do you think deserve to be on the hypothetical 2010s rap monument?

Juice WRLD’s Estate Reportedly Sued Over “Scared Of Love”

It appears some aspiring artist is suing Juice WRLD’s estate for a song he claims was ripped off from him. According to TMZ, a guy with the stage name Ghost Loft claims he made a song called “So High” way back in 2013, only for Juice WRLD to rip off 16 bars for his song “Scared of Love” on Juice Wrld’s 2018 album Goodbye & Good Riddance.

In the docs, obtained by TMZ, the artist claims Juice WRLD and Mitch Mula are the only credited writers on “Scared of Love,” even though he says Mula later admitted to sampling his beat. He believes the song “Scared of Love” wouldn’t even exist without him.

As a result, Ghost Loft is suing Juice WRLD’s mother and executor of his estate, Carmella Wallace, as well as Mula, Universal Music Group and Interscope. He’s reportedly going after them for damages, an injunction prohibiting Juice’s estate from profiting off the song, and a writing credit. It’s unclear at the moment how much he’s asking for and whether or not he’ll even be successful, but he apparently thinks he’s got a case. We’ll keep you posted. RIP Juice WRLD.

LeBron James Adds Insult To Injury After Crossing Up Jae Crowder

LeBron James is one of the best players in the history of the NBA and when it comes to the playoffs, no one turns on the jets better than James. He always brings his game to a whole new level and that is exactly what he’s been doing against the Phoenix Suns over the past two games. In fact, LeBron helped give his Lakers a victory last night as they took a 2-1 series lead against a team that got the second seed in a stacked Western Conference.

Perhaps the best play of the night was when LeBron put multiple moves on Jae Crowder, who is a notorious Lakers hater. In fact, Crowder said the Lakers title was illegitimate due to the bubble, even though Crowder was in the NBA Finals, in the very same environment. Regardless, it’s clear that LeBron wanted to make an example of Crowder and that’s exactly what he did. To make matters worse, LeBron posted the highlight on his IG account and came through with one of those signature LeBron captions.

“Just a kid from AKRON enjoying what he loves to do! P.S. My goons on the bench are the GREATEST!!!! LOL. Love you boys!” LeBron wrote.

Now, with a 2-1 series lead, the Lakers have control of the series and as someone who has been in this position before, James won’t be taking his foot off the gas anytime soon. As for Crowder, he’s going to have to be extra careful on defense in Game 4, otherwise, he might be on the receiving end of yet another highlight-reel play.

Rexx Life Raj Releases The 3-Song ‘Untitled’ EP To Thank Fans For Their Love And Support

The past year has been rough on all of us and while some were able to use the extended economic shutdown to be productive, others were less inspired, finding whatever they could hold onto to help them survive. Bay Area rapper/singer Rexx Life Raj falls partially into the latter category, according to a tweet thread he shared earlier this week. “Over these past months, I haven’t been able to make a lot of music,” he admitted. “But of the few I made these have been on repeat, helping me through these times.” As a gesture of appreciation to fans for their continued love and support, he released the three songs as an untitled EP.

The three tracks include “Silver Linings,” on which he nods to his flaws, but resolutely holds to his virtues and reminds listeners to “check on your strong friends” over a groovy beat. On “Made A Man,” Raj recalls the struggles that have built him up and “forced me to learn to stand on my own” over an acoustic guitar sample and spacey synthesizers. Finally, on “Make It Shake,” he again uses a guitar loop to accompany another motivational anthem on which he prays “for better days, then outside and make it shake.” And despite not making much new music over the past few months, what he has made has been similarly inspirational, including “Bounty” and the encouraging “Bounce Back.”

Listen to “Made A Man,” “Make It Shake,” and “Silver Linings” above.

The Neptunes Fuel Rollout Rumors After Wiping Their Instagram Page

Although some artists are still able to pull off surprise albums, the Hip-Hop community’s infatuation with social media has made it nearly impossible for artists to successfully prep a top-secret release. One of the biggest signs that an artist is in album mode is the famous Instagram wipe, and eagle-eyed fans have noticed that one of the most iconic production duos of all time has recently done just that.

Judging from their Instagram, it appears that The Neptunes may be prepping a rollout for a new song or project. After completely cleansing their feed, the beloved production outfit that features Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo has shared a new photo of both artists working side by side in the studio.

Producers Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo of the Neptunes arrive at The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards 2003 at the Miami Arena on October 13, 2003 in Miami, Florida. The show will air on the BET network on November 11, 2003 at 8:00 p.m.

Posted alongside the most minimal caption possible, the only indication as to what Pharrell and Chad Hugo may be up to is the Vulcan salute emoji, a.k.a. the immediately recognizable hand salutation that Star Trek character Spock popularized. Check out the mysterious Instagram post below. The Neptunes and the artists who were signed to their Star Trak Entertainment label were known to pose in photos while holding up the  Vulcan salute, so their eyebrow-raising new post may also hint at the return of their now-defunct record label.

Although the mere thought of new music from The Neptunes is enough to get any Hip-Hop head excited, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Stay tuned to see what Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams have up their sleeves.

I come outside when the streets darkеn
Try not to oblige when you hear greed talkin’
I’m Frank Whitе, it’s no plea bargain
King of my city, I’ma serve every damn fiend that I see walkin’
Don’t be threatened, I teach lessons
Don’t call me king, ’cause every king suffered a beheadin’
There’s seven deadly sins, better preach, reverend
