Singer Roxy Rosa Scores Kodak Black Feature On “What About You”

Up-and-coming R&B singer Roxy Rosa is back with yet another single just in time for the summer. “What About You” featuring Kodak Black is a bouncy R&B jam infused with the colorful influence of dancehall.

“What About You” finds Roxy Rosa reaching out to a past lover with an incredibly catchy and hypnotic hook that repeats the song’s title. With lines both in English and Rosa’s Dutch, the singer provides a soundtrack for the summer, even for those who don’t speak either language. Rosa’s versatility shines with speedy flows and memorable drawn-out melodies similar to Kodak’s.

“What About You” marks Roxy Rosa’s biggest collaboration yet and the third single she’s released in 2020, preceded by “Risico” and “Oeh Baby”. Her debut album, See Joy, was released in April of last year and contains “Ups and Downs” which remains the most popular track of her career with over 3 million Spotify streams.

Check out the song below!

Quotable Lyrics
Roxy Rosa slide in my double R
What about us, What about you,
What about me, What about me,
Girl I love you
Wanna hold your hand, Wanna be your man

Eminem’s “8 Mile” Battle Rap Opponent Banned From Iowa

Rapper Gerald “Strike” Sanders is probably best known for his appearance in 8 Mile where he battled Eminem’s character B-Rabbit  but he’s, unfortunately, making headlines this week after a legal battle with the state of Iowa. According to Des Moines Register, Strike has officially been banned from doing business in the state of Iowa on accusations of fraud.

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller speaks at a news conference. (Alex Wong/Getty Images )

Sanders is said to have run an organization in Iowa where kids from the inner-city community were hired to go door-to-door to sell merchandise, from magazines to clothes. Miller claims that Sanders would make his employees falsely tell customers that the money generated from these sales would go towards a local charity. Sanders denied the allegations against him.

“What’s important to know is that I did not send people into the neighborhood to defraud people,” he said.

Regardless, Sanders agreed to Millers’ terms in order to avoid penalization. In the settlement, Sanders’ company Inner City Solutions would shut down shop in the state of Iowa. AG Miller claimed that Inner City Solutions did not register as a fundraiser, failed to obtain a sales license for door-to-door operations, and did not present customers information on their rights to cancel their purchase within three days.

“This agreement puts a stop to Inner City Solutions’ business in Iowa and ends the company’s claims it raises funds for local charities close to the hearts of many Iowans,” Miller said.

In response, Sanders said he was boxed into a corner and suggested that their agreement was blackmail. “We could go after you for these crazy amounts, but if you sign this paper saying you’ll never come back to Iowa we’ll leave it alone,” Sanders said of what officials told him.

Though Sanders does have to shut down his operation in Iowa, he will avoid any fines or penalties related to the allegations made against him and his business.

Kamasi Washington’s Hopeful Epic, ‘Sun Kissed Child,’ Is Part Of The ‘Music For The Movement’ Series

Kamasi Washington has been racking up accolades for his psychedelic jazz-fusion for quite some time now, and his 2018 epic Heaven And Earth was the last formal release fans have gotten from the epic jazz powerhouse. But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been releasing one-off tracks and special projects in the meantime, like scoring Michelle Obama’s Becoming documentary, teaming with the likes of Terrace Martin and Denzel Curry to release the protest song, “Pig Feet,” and even forming the new band, Dinner Party, with 9th Wonder, Robert Glasper, and Martini.

Today he’s back with some more music of his own, though, sharing a hopeful new track off the Liberated EP that’s part of The Undefeated’s Music For the Movement series. This is volume 3 of that project, and includes contributions from other artists like Chloe Bailey, Common and Cordae, while artists like Tinashe have contributed to the project before. For Kamasi’s newest track, “Sun Kissed Child,” he had contributions from plenty of fellow artists, including vocalists Dwight Trible and Patrice Quinn, as well as drummer Ronald Bruner Jr., who is the older brother of Thundercat.

Hear the new song above and look out for more new music and hopefully more live performances coming from Kamasi very soon.

Saweetie’s collaboration with Doja Cat, “Best Friend”, took radio and TikTok by storm, and now, the hard work is coming back to her tenfold. The track, which currently has over 200 million streams on Spotify, was certified platinum this past week, five months after its release. “Best Friend” marks Saweetie’s fourth career platinum certification. The first of which came with 2019’s “ICY GRL”, quickly followed by “My Type” and then, “Tap In.” Both “Best Friend” and “Tap In” benefitted from a handful of successful remixes with other prominent rappers. UK’s Stefflon Don was later added to “Best Friend” while the remix for “Tap In” boasted some heavyweight names including DaBaby, Post Malone, and Jack Harlow. The tracks are set to be included in Pretty Bitch Music, which will be released under Warner Records.

Pretty Bitch Music will follow Saweetie’s Pretty Summer Playlist: Season 1 which released in mid-April. The EP was meant to hold fans over until the release of her official debut album.

Saweetie’s latest W comes after a tumultuous year that included her and Quavo’s highly-publicized breakup. Once considered the rap game’s most beloved couple, the couple announced their split in March. Shortly after, Saweetie explained in a series of tweets that she had endured “too much betrayal” and accused Quavo of being intimate with other women.

Saweetie just recently hosted a masterclass on content creation through Complexland this past week.

Warhol.SS Drops Off Quick “Free Andy II’ EP

Chicago-born emcee Warhol.SS has been staying pretty consistent with new releases. Back in 2018, he signed a multi-album deal with Epic, subsequently releasing new music to appease his growing audience. He released his debut effort Chest Pains the same year, loaded with features from Rico Nasty, Hoodrich Pablo Juan, UnoTheActivist, and more.

Before releasing his debut effort, he dropped off his first Free Andy EP. “Chest Pains still isn’t out and those who know me know I get my name from Andy Warhol so the rest explains itself,” he told XXL at the time of its release. “I just wanted to give the fans a peek into the new vibes I’m bringing into the game.”

Nearly three years later, he introduced the second part of the EP, a five-track effort dubbed Free Andy II. Similar to the first EP, the entire tape is a solo endeavor. He started the tape on an introductory high with “Go Get It,” maintaining the trajectory on the subsequent tracks.

“Shiggy Dance,” and “Obama” are also highlights from the tape. Tap into the Free Andy II EP down below and let us know your thoughts.

People Think Drake Is Shooting His Shot At LeBron James Jr.’s Teammates Mom

At this point, anyone who keeps up with Drake knows of his affinity for basketball. The OVO head honcho is a frequent guest on NBA game sidelines, often showing out to support his home team the Toronto Raptors. As a global ambassador for the team, he works closely alongside the crew.

The Toronto native has been chilling in Los Angeles for the past few weeks, hanging out with the likes of Michael B. Jordan, Future, Gunna, and others. He recently linked up with Jordan again courtside at a Sierra Canyon High school basketball game, and fans coming up with theories to try and put the pieces together as to why he’s been closely mentoring a member of the team.

The high school has received a boost in press coverage after LeBron James’ son Bronny joined the roster in 2019, attracting all sorts of nationwide coverage and celebrities to their basketball events. Drake has made appearances to show support for his friend’s son, of course, but he’s also taken another one of Bronny’s teammates under his wing.

Giving him advice and taking him out to arcades, there seems to be no previously established relationship between him and Amari Bailey, unlike the one he has with James’ family. Fans have theorized the outpouring of support from Drizzy is because he’s attempting to shoot his shot at Bailey’s mother Johanna Edelburg.

Footage shared on Thursday (June 17) by Bleacher Report shows Johanna walking in front of Drake and Jordan on the sidelines. “I ain’t notice them boys until 7 seconds into the video,” commented one person.

Another person wrote, “Lol Drake think he slick sittin next to young bull mama [crying face emoji].” Of course, Drake’s motive could just be from the kindness of his heart.

What are your thoughts? Let us know down in the comments.

Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records Sues Co-Founder Dame Dash Over An Attempted NFT For ‘Reasonable Doubt’

More than 25 years ago, Jay-Z, Dame Dash, and Kareem “Biggs” Burke came together to form Roc-A-Fella Records. The label would eventually become the home of Jay-Z’s first album, Reasonable Doubt, which was released in 1995. The project is heralded as a hip-hop classic and one of the best efforts in Jay’s discography. Fast-forward to the present and Reasonable Doubt is now at the center of a lawsuit between Roc-A-Fella records and Dash.

According to TMZ and Page Six, Dash was sued by the company after he attempted to auction Reasonable Doubt as an NFT. Roc-A-Fella claims that Dash is unable to mint the album to sell because he does not own the rights. According to court documents filed by high-profile attorney Alex Spiro, Dash planned to sell the Reasonable Doubt NFT at a now-canceled auction and Roc-A-Fella’s current fear is that he will try to sell it again elsewhere.

“The sale of this irreplaceable asset must be stopped before it is too late, and Dash must be held accountable for his theft,” the court documents read. “Dash can’t sell what he doesn’t own. By attempting such a sale, Dash has converted a corporate asset and has breached his fiduciary duties. The court should stop Dash….and hold him accountable for his brazen theft.”

The lawsuit comes shortly after Jay-Z sued photographer Jonathan Mannion, who shot the cover for Reasonable Doubt, for using his name and image without consent.

Donovan Mitchell Stunned By Terance Mann’s Heroic Stat Line

Donovan Mitchell and the Utah Jazz were favored over the Los Angeles Clippers in the Western Conference Semi-Finals, especially when you consider how the Jazz jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the series. Unfortunately for the Jazz, they let the Clippers crawl back into the series, and despite an injury to Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers ended up finishing off the series last night in Los Angeles. Now, the Clippers are off to the franchise’s first-ever Western Conference Finals.

Terance Mann was the hero for the Clippers as he scored 39 points and did all while being guarded by Rudy Gobert. In fact, Mann only missed six shots throughout the game, and it was one of the best individual performances of the playoffs. Mann was so impressive, that Mitchell appeared stunned while reading the score sheet during his media availabilities after the game.

This was an especially tough loss for the Jazz as they were up 25 points early in the match. In the end, however, their defense allowed 81 points in the second half, which let the Clippers make a comeback that should have never happened in the first place.

Heading into next year, Mitchell and the Jazz will be motivated to right their wrongs from this season, although it’s going to be tough in an otherwise stacked Western Conference.
