Tyler, The Creator Reveals The Most Impactful Moment In His Career

Over the course of the past decade, Tyler, The Creator has cemented his status as a behemoth in pop culture. The rapper has reinvented his style and his sound during his career which ultimately shifted the culture in its own way. He’s gone on to work alongside legends like Pharrell Williams, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West without compromising his own vision. The question remains — what was the moment that led to this success?

While hard work is definitely a major component, the rapper recently did a Q&A on Twitter where he was asked about the most impactful moment in his career. Though there’s plenty of public moments to choose from — including a Grammy win — he explained that it was a particular part-time job that put the battery in his back to go and get it.

“What do you think was the most important moment in your career?” A fan asked Tyler on Twitter.

“getting fired from Starbucks,” he responded.

The rapper previously discussed his stint at Starbucks during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel. While he did make it clear he still harbors ill feelings towards a manager named Cindy, even then, he stated that getting fired was “the greatest moment of my life.” The reason behind his firing was because he was constantly stealing cheese danish’s from the store. The rapper explained that his mom, who appears on Call Me If You Get Lost, planned to sue Starbucks before concluding that they did anything wrong. However, Tyler left his 2 1/2 tenure at Starbucks with a bang by eating as many danishes as possible before getting the boot.

Idles Tap Slowthai To Lend A Verse On Their Raucous ‘Model Village’

Idles shared their latest LP Ultra Mono back in September, which included the track “Model Village.” They’ve now linked up with their friend and fellow UK musician Slowthai to feature on a new version of the song, which they debuted on a special episode of vocalist Joe Talbot’s Balley TV series.

Talbot’s Balley TV first began as a quarantine entertainment show. The latest episode aired a month before Ultra Mono‘s release but this week, Talbot and his band took over House Of Vans in London to record an hour-long episode with musicians Katy J Pearson, Deep Tan, and Nuha Ruby Ra. They were also joined by Slowthai for a raucous performance of their new “Model Village” track, which injects even more energy into the already lively tune.

Sitting down for an interview with Talbot after their “Model Village” rendition, Slowthai talked about his overarching goals with his music. The rapper said he just hopes to inspire others to be themselves and share their own viewpoints with the world:

“I think the aim of life is that you’re born, you learn, you pass on your knowledge. It’s about sharing, discovering, communicating, and coming together. So my thing is being able to take what I learned and give my opinions and people can either steer me in the right direction or I can change their viewpoint. I think with music, it’s always to spark a discussion. People are people at the end of the day so they’re influenced how they’re influenced. But I think it’s a responsibility to just share my viewpoint and mainly bring some kind of joy, even though a lot of my music is miserable, and help people who are from a less fortunate place or haven’t had the opportunity to see that they can do what they want and be who they want to be. They haven’t got to follow no rules or guidelines on the way the world expects them to be. Be yourself, don’t give a f*ck, and do it with a smile on your face.”

Kalan.FrFr Gives A Charismatic ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance Of The Plaintive ‘Never Lose You’

Compton rapper Kalan.FrFr gives a confident, charismatic performance of his plaintive TwoFr 2 single “Never Lose You” on this week’s episode of UPROXX Sessions, demonstrating why he’s rapidly becoming one of the Hub City’s fastest-rising talents.

Giving off a similar vibe to LA area rap crooners 03 Greedo, Bino Rideaux, and 2021 XXL Freshman Blxst (who has produced beats for him), Kalan blends a melodic delivery and emotive penmanship with lush, G-Funk-inspired beats to tell relatable stories of heartbreak, love, and loyalty shot through with the familiar notes of Los Angeles street culture. Starting off making beats in high school, Kalan retired from San Diego State University’s football team (he played defensive back) to focus on rap full-time.

The switch paid off earlier this year when he was signed to Roc Nation in March. He followed up the signing with the release of his debut album TwoFr 2, which has rapidly become a local favorite. With his deluxe version dropping over the weekend and adding impressive features from fellow South LA standouts 1TakeJay (a fellow UPROXX Sessions alum), BlueBucksClan (stay tuned), and Chicago breakout star Lil Durk, Kalan is one hit away from following his song-rap brethren into the mainstream spotlight.

UPROXX Sessions is Uproxx’s performance show featuring the hottest up-and-coming acts you should keep an eye on. Featuring creative direction from LA promotion collective, Ham On Everything, and taking place on our “bathroom” set designed and painted by Julian Gross, UPROXX Sessions is a showcase of some of our favorite performers, who just might soon be yours, too.

Shiesty was initially taken in on charges related to a double shooting in Bay Harbor Island back in October 2020. WSVN 7 News Miami reports that he was reportedly involved in a failed drug and sneaker deal. Two people were shot and suffered non-fatal injuries during the altercation.

To make matters worse, he was arrested again in June for allegedly shooting at a security guard at the King of Diamonds in Miami.

“White Boy Rick” Richard Wershe Jr. Hits Detroit PD With $100 Lawsuit

The story of White Boy Rick, born Richard Wershe Jr., was told in the Yann Demange-directed film starring Matthew McConaughy, Danny Brown, and YG. Wershe became a police informant between the ages of 14 to 16 and provided information on major drug dealers in his area to the FBI. Ultimately, he ended up behind bars on a cocaine trafficking charge without any intervention from the government or FBI, despite providing them with pertinent information.

Wershe was released from prison last year after completing his sentence. However, he’s taking the Detroit police department to court. According to Detroit Free Press, Wershe filed a lawsuit against Detroit PD for forcing him into becoming a police informant as an impressionable teenager. In the lawsuit, Wershe claims that his problems stem from pressure from the police and federal agents who forced him into going into drug dens to provide them with information.

Nabih Ayad, his lawyer, said that the city of Detroit and the others named in the lawsuit will likely attempt to fight the lawsuit by arguing that his allegations are outside of the statute of limitations.

“This is a unique case. … Our Constitution, our justice system, and God-given right to all humanity calls on this court to finally bring justice to a man whose life has been taken from him at the tender age of 14 all the way up to 51 years of age,” Ayad said.

Detroit PD said they haven’t seen the lawsuit.

NBA Youngboy’s Son Kacey Is The Spitting Image Of His Father

YoungBoy Never Broke Again loves all of his kids equally, but his son Kacey holds an extra special place in his heart. His baby boy with ex-girlfriend Jania Meshell, Kacey has an entire song named after him, which he actually provides some vocals for, called “Kacey Talk.” On the track, he sings ad-libs for one of his dad’s lyrics.

Fans of the currently incarcerated rapper love any content that has to do with the 21-year-old rapper and his family, and they’ve been going crazy over a recent video of Jania with Kacey. In the video, which went viral after being posted by The Shade Room, Kacey gives his mother the silent treatment after seemingly not getting his way. While many of the commenters are pointing out Kacey’s cute demeanor while ignoring his mom, much of the comments section is filled with people remarking how much the little boy looks like his rapper father.

“He look just like young boy it’s crazy,” remarked one of the top commenters. “He got yb eyes,” said another. “YB twin,” added somebody else.

We’ve gotten some good looks at Kacey as he grows up and he definitely is YoungBoy’s mini-me. Similarly, we published an article on Monday about Ice-T’s daughter and how fans were remarking how similar she looks to the rap icon. Read about that here.
