Lil Yachty Praises Young Thug’s Character

Though Young Thug often receives praise for his musical innovation, long has he exhibited character traits worthy of celebration. For one, he has remained unwaveringly loyal to those in his inner circle, often emphasizing how his bonds with his YSL artists extend far deeper than rap. It’s part of why the chemistry on the recent Young Stoner Life compilation project Slime Language 2 was so effortless.

That’s not to say Thug’s loyalty extends exclusively to his camp. Today, Lil Yachty took a moment to celebrate the YSL leader’s character, taking to Instagram to share some kind words about his friend and collaborator. “Arguably the most solid ni*ga ever,” writes Yachty, alongside an image of himself and Thugger gazing off into the distance. His glowing review sparked agreement from a few of his hip-hop peers, with A$AP Ferg replying “U ain’t never lie.” Killer Mike also echoed the sentiment: “As a rock! Good man.”

While it’s unclear what sparked Yachty’s generosity — perhaps he was simply reminiscing on the good old days — there’s certainly ample evidence for Thug’s integrity. At the end of April, Young Thug and Gunna stepped up to post bail for thirty low-level offenders at the Fulton County Jail. “This is where we are from,” he stated, speaking with a news outlet on the scene. “We just woke up and went to the jail with the lawyer and, you know, DA’s and the prosecutors, you know, the bonding companies and just got as many people as we can out.”

Quavo And Saweetie Reportedly Won’t Face Charges Over Their Elevator Fight

In late March, security camera footage of an altercation in an elevator between Quavo and Saweetie surfaced, which prompted an LAPD investigation. Now, it is being reported that neither rapper will face criminal charges: TMZ reports that the case was referred to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, which declined to file charges, and that based on the surveillance video, there was “no likelihood of a conviction for either party.”

Both rappers previously spoke out about the incident, sharing statements with TMZ on the same day. Saweetie told the publication, “This unfortunate incident happened a year ago, while we have reconciled since then and moved past this particular disagreement, there were simply too many other hurdles to overcome in our relationship and we have both since moved on.” Hours later, Quavo offered his own statement, saying, “We had an unfortunate situation almost a year ago that we both learned and moved on from. I haven’t physically abused Saweetie and have real gratitude for what we did share overall.”

Meanwhile, Saweetie has been focusing on her career. Specifically, she’s looking for self-improvement, as she told Apple Music that she is attending an artist development boot camp. She said, “For me, I’m gonna focus on what I struggle with. I struggle with breathing control, I’m gonna work on my dance moves, my details, all that good stuff, my body, my stamina, everything.”

Saweetie is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

DMX’s Final Interview Reveals He Wanted To “Thank God For Every Moment” Before Death

It’s still hard for many music fans to process the sudden death of DMX last month. As a primary elder statesman of hip-hop, particularly if you favored New York rap, Earl Simmons lived a life that was both inspiring to watch and complicated to understand. Overall though, he will always be remembered as one of the illest emcees to pick up a mic, not to mention his honest pen game when it came to dropping hit records.

Thankfully, TVOne will be giving the world an insightful, first-person look into his life by airing his final interview this weekend for a special episode of Uncensored.

RIP DMX Final Interview

Announced just a few days ago, “DMX Uncensored” will show X sitting down for the camera to directly speak on how the the unfortunate trials and tribulations of his life balanced out with the countless wins he received throughout his colorful career. A short preview gives us edited clips from the sit-down, with DMX speaking on striving to “thank God for every moment” if he ever to were to look back on his life, in addition to dropping gems on how to view the harder moments in life, stating “it’s those moments, when they come together — you see the beauty of who you are and why you are.”

The beauty of who DMX was and will be remembered as can be seen throughout his multiple number one albums and handful of Hollywood hit films — him and Aaliyah did their thing in Romeo Must Die and on the soundtrack! Plus, it goes without saying, but the Dark Man definitely spent some time making sure his legacy will live on through all 15 of his children.

R.I.P. forever DMX. Make sure you check out DMX Uncensored on TVOne this Sunday (May 16) at 8P/7C. Peep the trailer below:

We’ve been hearing all about the NFT boom in the art world for the last few months. Artists including Eminem, A$AP Rocky, Curren$y, Jeezy, and so many others have hopped onto the trend to deliver one-of-a-kind artworks to their fans through exclusive auctions. As the NFT space continues to develop and expand, more history has been made with the launch of an exclusive collection of songs that were previously not commercially released from XXXTentacion, which will be offered via YellowHeart’s NFT marketplace.

The upcoming collection debuts on Thursday morning ahead of the open edition NFT drop from May 10 to May 15. It will feature a number of commercially unreleased songs from the late XXXTentacion, as well as never-before-seen footage from the REVENGE Tour, which was XXX’s final tour before he was fatally shot. The NFT drop was done in collaboration with the XXXFoundation, which was founded by the rapper’s mother as well as his manager, Solomon Sounds.

“The most important thing for me since X has passed is growing and protecting his legacy,” said Solomon about the NFT collection. “With NFTs becoming such an important tool for artists, it’s great to have the opportunity to expand X’s legacy into the digital space where it can be shared and treasured by his current and future fans.”

Kendrick Lamar, Roddy Ricch & More Invest In MixedByAli’s “EngineEars” Company

Engineers are the unsung heroes of the music industry, and while seldom recognizable or well-known as producers, their importance behind the board deserves the utmost appreciation. In the case of MixedByAli, who has long held it down for the TDE camp and beyond, his discography speaks for itself with projects like Kendrick Lamar’s Section 80 & To Pimp A Butterfly, YG’s My Krazy Life, Danny Brown’s Atrocity Exhibition, Boogie’s Everything’s For Sale, and many more.

Today, MixedByAli took to Instagram to open up about his latest endeavor, a company he started called EngineEars. “For over two years I’ve been taking my time really understanding the real problems in my industry,” he writes. “From all of this research, what I’ve realized is that the problem is there are minimal tools provided to audio engineers to set us up for success, and very little access for artists and labels to search and instantly book talented engineers for their projects.”

“This is why we created the solution; @engineears,” he continues. “From acquiring clients and scheduling new projects, managing file storage and project archiving, to tracking payments, EngineEars provides audio engineers with the tools to operate their business whilst democratizing access to high-quality engineering for artists globally.”

In addition to sharing the mission statement, Ali also revealed an extensive list of pre-seed investors, many of whom boast at least one piece of music mixed by his hand. The list includes Kendrick Lamar, Roddy Ricch, Mustard, DJ Khaled, Ella Mai, Russ, YG, Bas, Smino, Kenny Beats, Ibrahim Hamad, and many more. So many backers, in fact, that EngineEars has already reached a pre-seed investment goal of one million dollars.  In addition to Ali’s hip-hop investors, the project also saw heavy funding from the Slauson & CO investment company, as well as The Community Fund and EQT.

Check out Ali’s EngineEars announcement post below, and show some love to one of the game’s MVPs in the comments below. We look forward to seeing what Ali continues to bring to the table — and that includes his involvement of whatever TDE albums have been lining the 2021 release calendar.

Moneybagg Yo Government Name Saga Continues

Moneybagg Yo playfully called out television service Music Choice this week for displaying his government name as a “fun fact” on their programming. The humorous video quickly made its rounds on social media with everybody, including Drake, commenting on it. The Memphis rapper, whose real name can be found on Google, Wikipedia, and other websites, was seemingly upset about Music Choice handing out this information on a wider scale, but he will officially no longer have that problem after the service made it right with him in the DMs.

After Drake’s father Dennis Graham called out VladTV for covering his son’s funny comment about Bagg’s legal name, claiming that they were trying to start beef between the two rappers, the “Time Today” artist shared his conversation with Music Choice, who reached out privately to amend the situation. After seeing the video he recorded all over the blogs, Music Choice decided to remove this particular fun fact from their programming, offering to change it to another one of Moneybagg’s choice. “@musicchoice making it right I f*ck wit em we locked in,” said the artist.

While the information about Moneybagg Yo’s real name has been readily available for years online, it seemingly became an issue for the rapper this week. Now that this has been handled, he’s got one big weight lifted off his shoulders and can enjoy the success of his #1 album again. Check out this video of him literally swimming in a pool filled with hundred-dollar bills to see how he’s been living lately.

Quavo & Saweetie Won’t Be Charged For Elevator Fight Video

Weeks after it was announced that Saweetie had broken up with Quavo, a video surfaced online showing a physical altercation that occurred in a North Hollywood apartment complex’s elevator involving both rappers. They seemingly struggled over a Call Of Duty-branded briefcase in the video before Saweetie was knocked to the ground, being dragged into the elevator by her boyfriend Quavo at the time. She remained on the ground for approximately one minute before exiting the elevator.

Shortly after the video started circulating on social media, it was reported that an investigation would be opened on both Quavo and Saweetie over the altercation, which could potentially result in criminal charges being handed out. An update was issued with regards to the investigation on Thursday morning, with both parties getting out of this one by their good graces.

According to multiple reports, Saweetie and Quavo are both in the clear over the video. The case was reportedly forwarded to the L.A. City Attorney’s Office, which declined to press charges. There was reportedly no likelihood of a conviction for either party, which led to this decision.

This is very positive news for fans of Saweetie and Quavo, who were worried about potential criminal repercussions from the video. While they remain on non-speaking terms following their messy split, Saweetie has been discussing the breakup during her latest interview features. She spoke about the public’s reaction to her ending the relationship during her interview with W Magazine, which you can read more about here.

Kobe Bryant’s Journey With Nike Led To A Basketball Shoe Revolution

It’s rare for a player to come into the NBA and have a gargantuan impact on the entire sport as a whole. It’s even rarer for that same player to change the game when it comes to the actual shoes the players wear on the court. In order to make that kind of impression, you have to be a special talent who only comes around once in a generation. From the early-2000s to the mid-2010s, that player just so happened to be 5-time champion, Kobe Bryant. When it comes to Kobe’s sneaker output, there are so many incredible models to choose from, and if you are looking to secure a pair, or even sell some, then eBay might just be the solution you are looking for. EBay has numerous policies in place that protect both the sellers and the buyers. For instance, all pairs are sent through Sneaker Con’s special sneaker facility, where all shoes go through rigorous authentication processes. eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee lets sneakerheads sleep at night knowing their rare and retro sneakers are real. Not to mention, the brand also offers no sellers fees on shoes over $100 USD. Their vast collection of rare shoes encompasses Kobe’s storied history, and if there is a particular pair you’ve always wanted to own, chances are, eBay has it.

Kobe’s sneaker journey was certainly a rocky road at first. His days with Adidas were not fondly remembered by sneakerheads, although his sneaker free agency was the stuff of legend. Kobe would wear any brand that sent him something and eventually, he signed with Nike. Together, Kobe and Nike delivered a fleet of incredible signature sneakers to the masses all while creating new trends that have left a lasting impact on today’s crop of NBA stars who have their own signature shoes. Unfortunately, the Nike x Kobe partnership is officially coming to an end which is news that was announced just a couple of weeks ago. At the end of 2021, Nike will stop selling Kobe-related sneakers and as everyone can imagine, it has led to some increased levels of scarcity on the market, which has also increased the value of his shoes.

Following a whole year of being courted by numerous brands, Kobe signed to Nike in 2003 although he wouldn’t get a true signature sneaker with the brand until 2005. For the better part of that year, Ken Link began designing a shoe for Kobe that fit the vibes of the time. Pretty well every player was wearing high-tops or mid-tops, and this shoe was no different as it had a stealthy yet bulky design. Pairs of the Nike Kobe 1 eventually started to hit the market in January of 2006 and on 22nd of that very same month, Kobe dropped 81 points on the Toronto Raptors while wearing a white, purple, and black colorway. Eventually, this Player Exclusive got a retro in 2019 and it remains one of the most iconic shoes to ever grace Kobe’s feet.

While the Nike Kobe 2 and Nike Kobe 3 were cool, Kobe’s real impact began with the Nike Kobe 4, which debuted during the 2008-2009 season. This was a special time for Kobe as he had just come off of a loss in the NBA Finals, and he was about to win two-straight titles, cementing on-the-court legacy. Kobe knew that he needed to do something special with his signature sneaker line, and he did just that as he shocked critics and consumers with a low-top shoe. When playing basketball, you need adequate ankle support, otherwise, you could be risking injury. Well, Kobe didn’t seem to care about all of that because he stuck to his convictions and completely changed the course of basketball shoes with just one silhouette. When the shoe originally debuted, there were people who told him it just wasn’t going to work. This fueled Kobe who came through with hilarious promotional campaigns including ankle insurance, which poked fun at the notion of these shoes causing injury.

Needless to say, the Kobe 4 proved to be immensely popular and his success out on the court forced people to take notice of what a low-top could do for someone’s game. These days, even big men can be seen wearing low-top shoes and when it comes to new signature sneaker lines, most of them are low-tops. From the Nike KD to the Nike Zoom Freak 1 to the Nike Kyrie series, there is no denying that these shoes would not exist if it weren’t for Kobe’s foresight.

Following the success of the Nike Kobe 4, Bryant continued on with his low-top journey as he unveiled the Nike Kobe 5 which was a subtle deviation from the previous model. Kobe would go on to win his fifth and final NBA title in these shoes and it was the “Big Stage Home” colorway that got those Game 7 honors against the Celtics. That white and gold pair were an immediate hit amongst fans and when you think of the Kobe 5, you think of that specific colorway.

Nike Kobe 6

While the Kobe 5 was a great model, it was the Kobe 6 that truly elevated Bryant to sneaker GOAT status, and it is all thanks to one colorway: “Grinch.” For decades now, the NBA has played games on Christmas Day and the Lakers are always part of those festivities. Surprisingly, no player had ever thought  to wear shoes that actually paid homage to the day’s festivities. Well, Kobe changed that with a green and yellow pair of Kobe 6’s that immediately made you think of Dr. Seuss’ grouchy creation. Original pairs of these sold out immediately and the retro rerelease from 2020 experienced the exact same fate. Now, this shoe will never be released again, which means if you want a pair, sites like eBay are your best resource. With the success of the “Grinch” model came Kobe’s second major contribution to the sneaker world: Christmas-themed shoes. The following year in 2011, LeBron James debuted a “Christmas” Nike LeBron 9, all while Kobe came right back with a purple and yellow Christmas Kobe 7. The following year, Kobe dropped the Kobe 8 in a unique Christmas sweater offering, which found itself dueling with Christmas models from Dwyane Wade and Ray Allen. In the years that followed, some of the league’s best players continued the Christmas tradition and well after Kobe’s retirement, the Holiday motifs still run strong. It’s yet another example of how Kobe was able to set trends all while capturing our imaginations.

To end his career, Kobe dropped two low-top shoes in the Kobe 10 and the Kobe 11. However, in between that, Kobe got experimental and downright maniacal with the Nike Kobe 9 Elite. Coming off of an Achilles injury, Kobe wanted something that would give him support in both his ankles and his calf. This ultimately led to a humongous high-top that helped bring Lunarlon midsole technology and flyknit materials to the basketball world. These two innovations are still found in basketball models, and the boldness of the Kobe 9 Elite remains impressive. While it won’t be getting a retro, it’s a shoe that cements Kobe as a man who was willing to take risks with his brand, which is extremely commendable.

While we were lucky enough to get retros of the Kobe 5 and the Kobe 6 over the past couple of years, his Nike output from 2011 and beyond won’t be coming back anytime soon. These sneakers have now become their own makeshift time capsules that will have you reflecting on some of the best years in the NBA’s history. A time where we got to see Kobe doing what he does best on a nightly basis, defying expectations and inspiring a whole generation of basketball players. As sneakerheads, all we can do is tip our hats to the man and rock his sneakers with pride when we go to hoop at the local courts, yelling “Kobe” after every jumper.
