Lil Uzi Vert’s Boxing Skills Catch Lil Yachty’s Attention

He’s been fiercely working at his skills in the ring for years, and Lil Uzi Vert dropped off another video to show any potential opponents that he means business. The celebrity boxing trade has always been lucrative and we’re currently witnessing the latest wave. Rappers are wanting to get their hands on a piece of the boxing pie, and we’ve recently watched Blueface and DDG show off their fisticuffs against social media opponents. Both rappers were victorious in their matches.

Soulja Boy has been calling for another rapper to go toe-to-toe with him in the ring, and while Rae Sremmurd’s Slim Jxmmi wanted his shot, Aaron Carter also jumped in to say he could like to face off with Soulja. Carter recently took a loss to Lamar Odom.

Last summer, in the thick of the quarantine, Uzi seemingly challenged YK Osiris to a fight, but the singer laughed it off. “You too little, my brother!… This man too little for me, man. Man, you my son,” Osiris said at the time. A new clip of Uzi in training has fans thinking differently as it shows what Uzi may lack in height, he makes up with speed.

After Akademiks reposted Uzi’s clip, Lil Yachty jumped in the comments to add, “Big Mac lookin devious to ak.” We’re not sure if Uzi and Osiris will make good on their 2020 assertions, but check out Uzi’s skills below and let us know who you think he should set up a match against.

Jordan Peele Believes “Candyman” Needs To Be Told “From A Black Perspective”

Not every remake of a fan favorite film is welcomed with open arms, but there seems to be a bit of excitement regarding Jordan Peele’s adaptation of Candyman. The original 1992 horror flick was directed by Bernard Rose and starred Tony Todd as the creepy title character, however, audiences experienced that telling of the story through the character Helen Lyle. Peele believes that seeing the tale being told through the eyes of a White woman changed the narrative.

After experiencing delays due to the pandemic, we’re all set to receive the 2021 Candyman reboot at the end of the month, and in a new featurette about the film, Peele speaks about why he believed this latest adaptation was necessary.

Peele acts as both co-writer and producer of the movie, adding to his growing list of Black horror features, but he received much help from the film’s director, Nia DaCosta. “I’ve always been fascinated with urban legends,” said Peele. DaCosta added that for her, Candyman was more than a film when she was a child; it was something that people believed in.

“Candyman is the patron saint of the urban legend,” said Peele in the clip. “We didn’t have a Black Freddy [Krueger], we didn’t have a Black Jason. It felt important this Candyman be told from a Black perspective.” DaCosta added, “For us, Candyman was some demon, ghost, man killing people in the projects… Candyman is so perennial. We’re talking about the cycles of violence and how history repeats itself and how we effectively process trauma through stories.”

“It’s always a time to tell a story like Candyman which is a big tragedy,” she continued. Candyman is slated for release on August 27. Check out the latest featurette below and let us know if you’ll be watching this reboot.

Ebro Darden Says Akademiks Hides Out: “You’re A Prisoner Of Your Own Lifestyle”

The back and forth between DJ Akademiks and Ebro Darden has been going on for years. Ebro has consistently vocalized his displeasure with how Akademiks makes moves in the industry, while his foe has responded with blistering takes on Ebro and Peter Rosenberg being outdated. Things kicked up a notch recently after Akademiks reportedly went off about the Hot 97 pair once again, and the radio hosts responded by airing out their grievances.

Ebro said that his issues with Akademiks are much like others who have criticized that social media star. “The things that he promotes and monetizes, a, he’s not from or apart of, which is, you know, he has a fetish, like many young people do and suburbanites do with gangsterism and gangs and you know, all of that,” he said.

“The whole pill-pop culture and all of that other nonsense, and the fact that a lot of the artists that he enjoys are just not good rappers. They’re just not good at rapping,” Ebro continued. Rosenberg chimed in to speak about Akademiks thumb-thugging “from his basement” while yelling on Twitch. Rosenberg recalled working in the same building as Ak and experiencing a much quieter, shy version of the blogger.

Ebro also mentioned that despite Akademiks saying he isn’t a pawn of record labels, there is proof—somewhere—that he gets paid to promote music. “You prisoner to your own lifestyle, my guy. You shook. Look him up. I don’t even dislike you like Rosenberg,” said Ebro. “I just want you to understand what you perpetuatin’ is a dead end. Is a dead end. You might have got some bread courtesy of the labels.”

“Now, I’mma tell Akademiks this: If you keep poppin’ that, I’m going to pull one of them invoices from one of them record labels,” he continued. “You keep talking that you don’t get money from record labels. It ain’t nothing for me to call an accounting department and talk about those bulk record deals that you have. Those bulk promo deals where they pay you to promote music. It ain’t nothin’ but a thing, my G.”

King Von’s O Block Mural May Be Taken Down After Police Allegedly Complain

When a beloved celebrity passes away, they are often immortalized through art. We’ve seen this happen with Kobe Bryant, Nipsey Hussle, and King Von as statues and murals have popped up around the globe. Delilah Martinez, her Mural Movement organization, and artist Chris Devins are responsible for the mural of Von on O Block, and as fans and friends of Von visit the artwork to take photos and remember the rapper, Delilah now claims that the mural may be taken down.

Von was reportedly affiliated with Chicago’s Black Disciples gang, and last month, we reported on police claiming that the late rapper was responsible for the shooting death of 17-year-old Gakirah Barnes. Authorities also allege that Barnes may have killed upwards of a dozen people.

According to reports, Delilah has been told that Von’s O Block mural may have to come down because police don’t approve of its inclusion in the city. In a clip shared online, Delilah spoke about the purpose of the Mural Movement and why it is important to share works of art in marginalized communities.

“We might have to take down that King Von mural,” said Delilah. “And I’m gon’ tell y’all why it really actually bothers me. So, if you guys know my story or know the Mural Movement and how we got started, y’all know how important it is to do specific things like art in specific areas, especially Black and Brown communities. So, that’s how the Mural Movement started. We’re all about representation, beautifying communities in need, especially underserved communities that don’t have art or murals.”

There has yet to be an update regarding if King Von’s mural will be taken down definitely, but the community hopes it will remain. Check out a few posts below.

Barbra Streisand Talks Beyoncé & Will Smith Being Considered For “A Star Is Born”

The film made nearly half a billion dollars at the box office and was nominated for Oscar, Grammy, and Golden Globe awards, earning several wins in the former two, but Barbra Streisand wasn’t a huge fan of A Star is Born. The 2018 musical film starred Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, the latter also playing director, and while their chemistry was applauded by fans worldwide, Streisand wasn’t impressed with the adaptation.

The first three versions of the film were released in 1937, 1954, and 1976, so when there were talks of yet another adaptation around 2011, Streisand—who starred in the 1976 version was happy to hear that Clint Eastwood was set to direct with a few fresh faces to star—thought there would be a new direction in the storyline.

While speaking with The Sunday Project, the music legend recalled learning years ago that “it was supposed to be Will Smith and Beyoncé” to lead the latest rendition of A Star is Born. “I thought, that’s interesting. You know, really make it different again—a different kind of music, integrated actors,” said the 79-year-old icon. “I thought that was a great idea. So, I was surprised when I saw how alike it was to the version that I did in 1976.”

“I thought it was the wrong idea,” Streisand added. “Look, it was a big success. I can’t argue with success. But I don’t care so much about success as I do originality… When I did A Star Is Born…Judy Garland was so great in it, I thought, ‘Oh my God, how am I going to do this?” she said of Garland’s 1954 appearance in the film. “‘I have to change it. I’ll become a guitar-playing singer-songwriter, and Kris Kristofferson is already a singer-songwriter, and we’ll change the story a bit.'”

Streisand’s remarks have caused a debate to ensue regarding whether or not Beyoncé and Will Smith could spark chemistry in A Star is Born. Gaga’s fans have been unmoved and continue to sing her praises for her inclusion in the film. Check out Streisand below.

Tristan Thompson Cryptically Addresses Rumors About Khloe Kardashian Reconciliation

The ups and downs—whether it be truths or lies—of Tristan Thompson’s relationship with Khloé Kardashian has been well-documented. The NBA player and his reality television mogul on-again-off-again girlfriend have been the subject of rumors for years, and after welcoming their daughter True Thompson three years ago, the public amplified their interest in the couple’s personal life.

The Kardashian-Jenners may have completed their run on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, but that hasn’t stopped them from sharing various aspects of their lives with the public. However, they like to maintain some sense of privacy, so Tristan and Khloé have allowed speculation about their romance to continue without addressing critics.

On  Monday (August 16), news ran rampant that the pair had gotten back together once again after a gossip blog’s post went viral. After Khloé clapped back at a social media user for their take on her personal life, Thompson also surfaced on Twitter with an enigmatic post about gossiping.

“Gossipers are worse than thieves because they attempt to steal another person’s dignity, honor, credibility, and reputation which are difficult to restore,” Thompson tweeted. “So remember this: when your feet slip, you can restore your balance. When your tongue slips, you cannot recover your words. Act accordingly.”

Aside from his alleged romance with Kardashian, Thompson also recently faced accusations that he was cheating on Khloé with an Instagram model as well as fathered a child with another woman. Thompson has denied both claims and even won a judgment against Kimberly Alexander, the woman who claimed the basketball star was the father of her son.

Halle Berry Hit With Lawsuit From UFC’s Cat Zingano Over “Bruised” Film: Report

It was nearly two weeks ago when we reported on Halle Berry’s upcoming film Bruised, but before it has even hit Netflix, the feature has caused the actor to experience legal troubles. Bruised makes for Berry’s Netflix directorial debut and follows the story of a mixed martial arts fighter named Jackie Justice, but a real-life contender alleges that Berry caused her to miss out on career opportunities.

According to TMZ, former UFC fighter Cat Zingano claims that back in the Summer of 2019, Berry told her that she would be a good fit for for the film.

They reportedly made an agreement that Zingano should “keep her schedule clear” just in case filming began, but according to the fighter, she was soon approached by the UFC with a significant fight offer. Zingano claims that she told Berry about the possible deal and the actor allegedly said if she wants to star in Bruised, she would have to pass on the fight. It all boiled down to the film’s insurance policy so Zingano went ahead and told the UFC that she would not participate.

However, things took a turn for Zingano after she told Berry of her decision. Zingano was reportedly ready for her big break in the film, yet Berry allegedly told her that the movie would only consider current UFC fighters, and if she is no longer in the UFC, Zingano couldn’t be in the movie. The fighter then stated that Berry would no longer communicate with her.

It is unclear what specific damages Zingano is seeking in the lawsuit.

Travis Kelce Shaves His Beard & Fans Can’t Believe It’s Him

Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce usually grabs attention for his career stats and relationship woes, but his face caused him to become a trending topic on Monday (August 16). The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is known for his fashion sense off of the field and as well as his signature beard, but after displaying his new look, Kelce became the subject of unrelenting memes.

The 31-year-old Ohio native showed off his shaved face on social media and without hesitation, the public responded.

“Travis Kelce shaved his beard and lost all of his rhythm and soul,” one person tweeted. Another quipped, “Travis Kelce looks like Will Ferrell if Will Ferrell was playing Travis Kelce in a movie.” After someone turned the picture into a black and white photo, there were jokes about Kelce looking like the racist Remember The Titans football players from the blockbuster 2000 Denzel Washington sports film.

Kelce was well aware of his photo’s popularity and returned to update his Twitter avatar. It was still the picture of him with a shaved face, albeit Kelce drew on a beard to ease his critics. Check out a few posts below.
