Kendrick Lamar Officially Releases The Long-Awaited ‘Squabble Up’ From The ‘Not Like Us’ Video On His Surprise Album, ‘GNX’

Kendrick Lamar fans, rejoice! The Compton rapper has officially released that song from the beginning of the “Not Like Us” video. It’s called “Squabble Up,” and it appears on his newly released surprise album, GNX. The full version of the song samples ’80s electro classic “When I Hear Music” by Debbie Deb, and sees K. Dot aggressively defending his patch, warning enemies to “get the f*ck out my faaace.”

Fans have been demanding the song’s official release ever since it first appeared in the “Not Like Us” video, but many had lost hope; after all, we never did get a full version of the snippet from the “Alright” video. However, it seems Kung-Fu Kenny was just waiting on the appropriate time to let it go, and now we can all bop along to the ode to good, ol’-fashioned fisticuffs in all its glory — and, true to Kendrick’s recent run, it’s an eminently quotable jam that’ll be as omnipresent in clubs as on the streets, blasting out of lowriders and barbershops.

“Squabble Up” is one of 12 songs that appears on the new project, which also includes, “The Heart, Part 6,” a not-so-subtle jab at Drake that snatches back the title of K. Dot’s long-running song series after Drake hijacked the name in the midst of their battle earlier this year.

You can listen to “Squabble Up” above.

Kendrick Lamar Just Released A New Album, ‘GNX,’ Completely Out Of Nowhere

Last month, a Kendrick Lamar collaborator tweeted, “mood cause new k dot album otwwww,” and SZA shared the tweet in an Instagram Story. Well, it turns out a new project indeed was on the way: Today (November 22), Lamar, with no advanced promo whatsoever, released a surprise new album, GNX. He also shared a video for the title track.

It has been rumored lately (via DJ Snake) that Lamar and Taylor Swift have a new collaboration on the way. Whether that’s true remains unclear, because there’s no Swift collab on GNX. Worth nothing, though, is that frequent Swift collaborator Jack Antonoff is credited as a producer on multiple GNX tracks.

In October, it was reported that Lamar was working on a getting a stadium tour together for 2025, a report that now appears more legitimate given the rapper now has a new album to promote. No tour dates have been announced as of yet, though.

Kendrick Lamar Casually Drops A Potential AOTY Contender With “GNX”

Kendrick Lamar… are you kidding!? The widely celebrated Compton, California visionary has just come by literally minutes ago with GNX. It’s probably the most casual release from an artist of this caliber maybe ever, but without a doubt in recent memory. About an hour ago, Lamar dropped off a one-minute teaser of a multi-phased track named after the project. That was a major shock in and of itself, but him delivering the LP just moments after is flat out insanity. Obviously, though, we mean that in the best way possible. There will be so much to unpack going forward, as there is with any Kendrick album. However, in this case, that will be true even more so. Since the beef with Drake, there were some rumblings from outsiders that K. Dot was going to release a new project.

However, no one really knew if this was going to happen. He’s already got the Super Bowl Halftime Show on his schedule. But it’s clear that Lamar wanted to capitalize on his evisceration of his Canadian foe, as well as all of the major records that came from it. “Not Like Us” and “Like That” accumulated numerous nominations at the GRAMMYs as well. There was already a serious belief that Kendrick has been the MVP of rap in 2024. But with the release of GNX there really isn’t much of a debate anymore; Kendrick Lamar is on top and will continue to be for as long as he’s around. Check out the album with the links below.

Kendrick Lamar Finally Delivers And Surprise Drops New Album “GNX”

Well, after one of the most dominant years for any rapper in recent memory, Kendrick Lamar closed it out by suprise-dropping his new album GNX the week before Thanksgiving… Much to be thankful for, indeed. It’s 12 tracks and 44 minutes long, and for the sake of not spoiling anything, you won’t find any info on sonic pallets, lyrical mentions, and the like here. Of course, there’s a lot to get into and fans are already going wild with theories and such, but the important thing is that what we waited for is finally here. We can only guess at the discourse that will follow…

Of course, this new album came just a few minutes after Kendrick Lamar shocked fans and dropped a trailer for the project on YouTube. At the time, we had no idea what it was about or what it could lead to, but we’re so happy that said skepticism only lasted for all of 30 minutes. “GNX” was a pretty dramatic sound with some tight rapping and a pretty modular progression as well, all qualities that have defined him throughout his whole career.

Kendrick Lamar’s GNX

Also, Kendrick Lamar’s new album GNX arrives amid a pretty interesting time for his other 2024 narratives, of which there are two big interconnected ones. First up is the obvious Drake battle that roped in a whole lot of other rappers and artists, some of which are seemingly pedaling back their initial sentiments. Future and Metro Boomin recently spoke to GQ about their regrets and reservations about the whole thing, and this follows a lot of other discussion around the small feuds that emerged as a result of the main showdown. It seems like the only ones who still stand by their runs are K.Dot and Drizzy, which is what it was always about.

On the other hand, we have to think about Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming Super Bowl halftime show, and the controversy it caused. This is because folks felt like it should’ve gone to Lil Wayne, but a lot of debate on the subject reveals a lot of grey area for both arguments. But none of that matters now: The album is here!
