Bronny James Is Still A “Laker” But In The G-League Now

Bronny James has been assigned to the NBA’s G-League to play for the South Bay Lakers, NBA reports. Earlier reports indicated LeBron James’ son would play in the development league after being drafted in the second round by the Los Angeles Lakers. After improving in the preseason, the 20-year-old USC shooting guard made history in October by becoming the first father-son pair to play in the NBA. Bronny has been one of the organizaton’s biggest attractions so far.

Bronny James played in four games since October, including a homecoming against the Cavilers, and averaged 1 point, 0.2 rebounds, 0.5 assists, and 0.2 assists. The number of his jersey is inspired by the late recording artist JuiceWrld. Rich Paul, the agent of LeBron James and Bronny’s agent, claimed that the NBA star played better than most of the brench. Bronny signed a four-year, 7.9 million dollar deal with the Lakers in July – according to ESPN.

Bronny Reports To The “South Bay” Lakers For Development

LeBron’s son heads to the G-League while the icon continues to dominate the NBA as the oldest active player. In his sixth year with the Lakers – 22 years in the NBA – James has averaged 24 points and 6 rebounds. The small forward is on pace to achieve over 40,000 points in the NBA. James led the Lakers to an NBA championship in 2020.

King James prepared his son well as the newcomer embarks on his rookie season. Before playing against the Sacremento Kings in the season opener, LeBron told his son, “You about ready? You see the intensity, right? Just play carefree, tho. Don’t worry about mistakes, just go out and play hard.” Was Bronny playing in the G-League always the plan? How is LeBron still playing at an elite level? Do we still want the father and son duo to play a whole season together? Chance Comanche, a former NBA G-League player with the Stockton Kings, has been arrested on kidnapping charges by the FBI. Comanche, who was released by the Kings shortly before the news of his arrest broke. Dwight Howard Seeks Lawsuit Dismissal

In other legal news regarding former NBA players, Dwight Howard has filed a motion seeking a pre-trial dismissal of the lawsuit brought against him by Stephen Harper. Howard’s motion calls Harper’s alleged assault “consensual”. Additionally, the motion also states that the lawsuit is “frivolous” and born of “unrequited love” on the part of Harper. Furthermore, Howard and his legal team accused Harper’s attorneys of submitting doctored text messages as evidence. This came after Harper’s team filed previously unseen text messages to the court.

“In short, the totality of the text messages between Mr. Howard and Mr. Harper make it abundantly clear that Mr. Harper’s claims are frivolous, that he was a willing participant in the events of July 19, 2021, and the early morning hours of July 20, 2021, and that the touching of his person had been invited by him. More importantly, the explicit messages not only show consent but also that Mr. Harper was initiating some of the sexual contact. Mr. Harper not only invited the initial experience, but tried to initiate a second encounter because the first was so enjoyable,” Howard’s motion read in part. The court has yet to rule on the motion.

Portland Trail Blazers G-League Affiliate Announced

The Portland Trail Blazers have been the topic of discussion many times this summer. However, those discussions aren’t always good. The franchise seems to be at a crossroads with superstar Damian Lillard on the future. Lillard has long stayed loyal to the franchise in hopes of bringing a championship to the city. But sadly, the franchise has been unable to build a strong enough team around Lillard to finish the job. But that discussion can be saved for another day. There’s good news coming out of Portland today.

On Monday, the NBA announced that the Trail Blazers will officially have a G-League affiliate this upcoming season. The Rip City Remix will be the official name of the organization. The NBA has seen massive growth in its developmental league. Including a G-League star being drafted third overall in Scoot Henderson. As fate would have it, Henderson was selected by the Trail Blazers with that pick. Check out the logo and team colors of the new G-League franchise below.

Rip City Remix Taking Portland By Storm

With the introduction of NIL, the landscape of college athletics has changed forever. However, athletes looking to make it in the NBA have an alternate path instead of college. The G-League has shown steady growth over the years. Including more and more NBA teams getting affiliated teams for their franchise. Henderson going in the Top 5 of this year’s draft could be an eye-opening lesson for those looking to take the G-League route.

Undoubtedly the G-League is good for the NBA. Having a minor league system has already proven to be good for players already in the league but not quite ready to be a part of their franchise. The MLB has long been successful with the minor leagues. As the NFL is starting to use leagues like the XFL and USFL as their own minor league systems. The Trail Blazers will now have a place to keep young talent that is hungry to make the main roster. Do you see the G-League becoming more successful than college basketball? Let us know in the comment section. For the latest news in sports, keep it right here with HNHH.

Ron Holland, #2 Prospect In 2023, Chooses G League

One of the biggest remaining questions in college recruitment was the case of Ron Holland. After Bronny James committed to USC, Holland was just one of a handful of top-100 prospects without a landing spot for 2024.

Holland had originally committed to Texas but reopened his recruitment for unspecified reasons in April. While Texas remained one of Holland’s top choices, Arkansas became the favored landing spot for the 6″8 power forward. However, Holland, who is ESPN‘s #6 pick in the 2024 draft, has now announced his 2023 plans.

On May 31, Holland revealed to ESPN that he would be forgoing college and spending the 2023 season with the G-League Ignite. “This process was not easy,” Holland told ESPN. “At times it was scary because at times I had no idea where I would be. The G League will help me reach my potential as a basketball player and prepare me for the NBA. To have a long career I need to prepare my body and improve my skills as I continue to try to win games. They have a program to help develop my body and my game. I know I have to work on being a more consistent shooter, along with my footwork and ball handling, so I can score in space on the perimeter against a set defender.”

The Ignite have produced stars like Jalen Green and expected 2023 top-five draft pick Scoot Henderson. Furthermore, Holland’s decision is partly driven by his relationship with Ignite head coach Jason Hart. “When I spoke with head coach Jason Hart we were on the same page,” Holland said. “He knew that winning was important to me but he also understands that I am willing to work hard to earn everything.” Additionally, Holland will also be joined by #5 recruit Matas Buzelis. Buzelis announced his intention to join the Ignite earlier on May 31. Follow all the latest sports news here at HotNewHipHop.
