Ludacris Gives Jack Harlow A Co-Sign Over His ‘Exceptional’ Sample Use On ‘First Class’: ‘He Did It Justice’

Jay-Z shared that he thought Ludacris’ lyrical abilities were often underrated, and indeed, the Fast X star’s impact in rap shouldn’t be swept under the rug. Quite some time has passed since the entertainer has released an album of his own, but his past releases often find their way onto the music charts thanks to clever samples by today’s rising acts.

Rapper Kali didn’t realize she was referencing Ludacris on her song, “Area Codes,” but Jack Harlow sure did when he sampled Fergie’s 2007 song “Glamorous,” which featured Ludacris. Harlow’s chart-topping single “First Class” earned him Ludacris’ respect and official co-sign. During an appearance in a new GQ video, Ludacris spoke about Harlow’s breakout track.

When asked if he was approving of the usage of the sample, the musician said, “How can I not be OK with it? I’m doing shows, and there’s a whole new generation that is identifying with the record, even if they haven’t heard my verse, simply because Jack Harlow is doing it over.”

He added, “I feel like he did it justice. It would be different if it was a poor rendition, but it’s not. Jack Harlow did it exceptionally well, and I enjoy the record.”

Watch Jack Harlow Bring A ‘First Class’ Performance To ESPN College Gameday

The start of the NCAA college football season is an exciting time for many and having live music always enhances a sporting experience. Jack Harlow was tasked with hyping up the crowd on ESPN’s College Gameday broadcast on Saturday (September 3), and brought none other than his popular 2022 record “First Class.”

While the song itself is undeniable to the people, so is Harlow’s charisma and personality. Thus, the commentators had to bring him on set to make predictions for the weekend’s football games as well. In the case of Sunday’s (September 4) game featuring LSU versus Florida State, the Come Home The Kids Miss You rapper cited how he was hanging out with former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow the night before, thus he chose LSU to win on Sunday night.

As for Cincinnati versus Arkansas, he stated how he was previously involved with a woman from Cincinnati so it only made sense to select them. Predictably, the commentators flanking him could not get enough of his humorous, unconventional prediction strategies.

It has been an exciting summer for Jack Harlow, as his “former foe” Brandy joined him on stage during his BET Awards performance in June, Fergie joined him on stage at this past Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, and he left that same show with the Song of the Summer award for “First Class.”

Jack Harlow And Brandy Party In ‘First Class’ Through A Lively Performance At The 2022 BET Awards

Shortly after the release of his sophomore album Come Home The Kids Miss You, Jack Harlow found himself in a bit of controversy thanks to a Hot 97 interview where he seemed completely shocked to find out that Brandy and Ray J are siblings. Furthermore, he failed to recognize two notable records from Brandy’s discography. Harlow was criticized for not knowing these pieces of information about Brandy, and soon enough, Brandy herself caught wind of the moment as she threatened to “murk this dude in rap.” She followed through with the promise with a freestyle over “First Class.”

Despite all the aforementioned events, it should be noted that all is well between Jack and Brandy as they joined forces for a performance of “First Class” at the 2022 BET Awards. Harlow led the way with his verse before clearing the stage for Brandy to arrive and shut it down with her verse. Harlow even showed off some dance moves during the performance that will surely prove to be a highlight moment during the award show.

Jack and Brandy’s performance came after he took the stage with Lil Wayne to perform “Poison,” their collaboration from Come Home The Kids Miss You. DJ Drama also appeared on the 1s and 2s for Harlow’s performance.

Brandy Grabs Jack Harlow’s “First Class” for a Playful Freestyle

Brandy and Saint JHN Added to 2020 Billboard Music Awards Performers

Jack Harlow made headlines and the timeline buzz last week when he revealed to the Ebro in the Morning crew that he had no idea that Brandy and Ray J were siblings.

Replying to the Brandy Legion Twitter page about the viral video, Brandy joked about grabbing his own music and murking him on it. “I will murk this dude in rap at 43 on his own beats and then sing [h]is ass to sleep.”

Brandy would double back and say it was “a little fun” and “all love.” But she was serious about jackin Jack for his beat. Yesterday, Brandy hopped on the Louisville rapper’s No. 1 hit “First Class” for her own rendition. Brandy skates over the “Glamorous”-sampled beat using Jack’s name for a cunning set of bars.

“Over 20 years and I’m still a topic
A bitch is worth a million and I’m feeling philanthropic
Popular but now I’m poppin’ shit for those out of pocket”

– Brandy

Maybe Ray J will get some bars off next. You can check out the new release below.

Jack Harlow Rides In ‘First Class’ To A Third Week At No. 1 On The ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 Chart

Jack Harlow calls himself a “G” in the hook to “First Class,” and though that may be debatable to some, one thing that cannot be refuted is he is now a multi-week chart-topper. The record, interpolating Fergie’s 2000s bop “Glamorous,” is No. 1 once again on the new Billboard Hot 100 chart dated May 28. “First Class” is the rapper’s first solo No. 1, debuting atop the chart upon its April release and boasted the biggest streaming week of 2022.

The track arrived as the second single from the Louisville rapper’s sophomore album Come Home The Kids Miss You, following the 2020 debut That’s What They All Say anchored by the Grammy-nominated “Whats Poppin.” Come Home includes lead single “Nail Tech” and features from Justin Timberlake, Pharrell, Lil Wayne, and Drake, the last of which leaked a few weeks early under the title “Have A Turn” before the official version was released as “Churchill Downs.” The “First Class” video also came out on the album’s release day.

Elsewhere on this week’s chart, Kendrick Lamar debuted four songs from his new album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers (which debuted on top of the Billboard 200 this week) in the top 10: “N95” at No. 4, “Die Hard” featuring Blxst and Amanda Reifer at No. 5, “Silent Hill” Feat. Kodak Black at No. 7, and “United In Grief” at No. 8.

Jack Harlow’s ‘First Class’ Returns To No. 1 On The ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 Chart For A Second Week

About a month ago, Jack Harlow had a career highlight when “First Class” became his second No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In the weeks since, it appeared it would be one-week-and-done for “First Class,” as Harry Styles’ “As It Was” knocked it off the top. After an additional week at No. 1 for Styles, Future, Drake, and Tems were No. 1 last week with “Wait For U.” Now, though, after weeks away from the top, “First Class” is back, as it’s once again No. 1 on the new Hot 100 chart dated May 21.

It was a major week for Bad Bunny, too, who has four songs in this week’s top 10 thanks to his new album, Un Verano Sin Ti, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. “Moscow Mule,” “Tití Me Preguntó,” and “Después De La Playa” occupy spots 4, 5, and 6, respectively, while Bad Bunny and Chencho Corleone’s “Me Porta Bonito” is No. 10.

Meanwhile, Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” rose from No. 19 to No. 9 this week, making it her fourth top-10 single after “Truth Hurts” (a former No. 1), “Good As Hell,” and the Cardi B collaboration “Rumors.”

Jack Harlow Delivers A Smoky Performance Of ‘First Class’ On ‘The Tonight Show’

Jack Harlow just unveiled Come Home The Kids Miss You, a highly anticipated album with a Drake feature, a video with Anitta, and a song about Dua Lipa. He announced yesterday that he’ll be embarking on a tour to promote the LP. Last night, he took the stage at The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon to perform one of his hits, “First Class.” Against screens displaying a blue sky, he raps slickly while the floor floods with white fog. His flow is uninterrupted and smooth, and the stage setup really brings the song to life.

When talking to Fallon, the “Nail Tech” rapper was asked about the viral video of him and Emma Chamberlain at the Met Gala in which he casually ends a conversation with “love ya,” which promptly makes Chamberlain almost freak out. About it, he said, “That’s like a piece of art because there’s so many ways to interpret that, you know what I mean? Everyone has a different take on what was going through her head, so I’ll leave it up to interpretation.” They also discussed the NBA video, with Harlow noting that after the clip of the refs aired during the game broadcast, his phone was flooded with messages.

Jack Harlow Lives A Glamourous Lifestyle With Anitta In His ‘First Class’ Video

Hot off the release of his sophomore album, Come Home The Kids Miss You, Jack Harlow has dropped the video for his Billboard chart-topping hit, “First Class.”

The video sees Harlow on an adventure with Brazilian singer, Anitta. In the video, directed by Jack Begert, the two bask in their wealth, enjoying their glamorous lifestyles. Harlow and Anitta lock eyes while taking separate glass elevators in a hotel. Anitta is later seen capturing Harlow with a telescope. All the while, Harlow takes flights on a private helicopter, dances in the middle of a dessert, and sits in an empty nightclub, accompanied by a bucket of ice and champagne. At one point in the video, Anitta motorcycles her way along a road, on which, painted letters spell out the word ‘glamourous.’

The song itself heavily samples “Glamorous” by Fergie on the chorus. “I grew up loving Fergie, like she literally inspired me,” Harlow told ET last month, “When I was in 5th grade, I tried to perform ‘Fergalicious’ at the talent show I have, like, a strong artistic connection to Fergie. I’ve been wanting to [sample her] for a while, and it just came together, and I figured it’s time.”
