STARZ has announced an “Early Preview” of its new docu-series Down in the Valley, a six-episode series offering a poignant and joyful exploration of the multifaceted Deep South. Hosted by Nicco Annan, renowned for his role as “Uncle Clifford” on STARZ’s acclaimed drama series “P-Valley,” the series promises a captivating journey through the region’s rich culture and history.
The premiere episode, “Diamonds of Memphis,” will be available a week early on the STARZ app, starting Friday, June 28 at midnight ET. For those watching on linear TV, the episode will air on STARZ as scheduled, followed by the second episode, “Saints & Sinners,” on July 5 at 9:00 PM ET/PT in the U.S. and 10:00 PM ET in Canada.
Down in the Valley immerses Annan, and viewers, in the Deep South’s diverse tapestry, featuring everything from strip clubs and sex workshops to rap performances and ancient hoodoo rituals. The series aims to confront uncomfortable truths, challenge societal norms, and advocate for a more inclusive future.
Produced by Zero Point Zero for STARZ, the series boasts an impressive lineup of executive producers, including Pulitzer Prize winner and “P-Valley” creator Katori Hall, Emmy and Peabody award-winner Shoshana Guy as showrunner, and Emmy and Peabody award-winners Lydia Tenaglia and Chris Collins. Emmy award winner Jared Andrukanis also serves as co-executive producer.
Nicco Annan, who has garnered multiple accolades including the NAACP Best Actor Award and The Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Black Cinema & Television’s Actor Award, brings his dynamic presence to the series, ensuring a compelling and insightful viewing experience.
