In a groundbreaking collaboration, Nike and Dove have joined forces to introduce “Body Confident Sport,” a revolutionary set of coaching tools designed to empower 11- to 17-year-old girls and enhance their body confidence in sports. This initiative aims to create an inclusive environment where girls feel they belong in the world of sports.

“Body Confident Sport” results from a two-year partnership between Nike and Dove, in collaboration with world-renowned experts from the Centre for Appearance Research and the Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport. The development process also incorporated feedback from nearly 2,000 adolescents across six countries: France, India, Japan, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

These scientifically proven coaching tools are designed to bolster self-esteem and body confidence, as demonstrated in clinical trials involving over 1,200 girls. The tool is accessible for free at bodyconfidentsport.com.

Transitioning into adolescence often results in significant bodily changes, which can make girls feel self-conscious and exposed. These feelings are frequently amplified in sports environments. According to recent research, 45 percent of teenage girls globally drop out of sports, and the primary reason is the impact that sports environments can have on their body confidence and self-esteem. Coaches play a pivotal role in shaping girls’ perceptions of their bodies, with 74 percent of girls attributing their increased confidence to their coaches.

“By shifting the conversation from what their bodies look like to what their bodies can do, we inspire more girls to stay in sport and benefit from it,” says Vanessa Garcia-Brito, VP, NIKE, Inc. Chief Social & Community Impact Officer. “With more girls in sports, we believe we’re creating the next generation of female leaders and changemakers who will move the world forward.”

The “Body Confident Sport” initiative, spearheaded by Dove and Nike, further underscores their enduring commitment to supporting women and girls. The partnership leverages the strengths of both brands to drive global change, paving the way for a more equitable future for women and girls on and off the playing field.

As part of its broader efforts, Nike has launched programs such as “You Got This,” a YouTube series for 10- to 13-year-old girls, and a partnership with Spotify aimed at inspiring 10- to 17-year-old girls in the United Kingdom to engage in dance. Nike’s partnership with Girls Got Game Philippines and the Tucker Center has also provided invaluable support for girls in sports worldwide.

The open-source “Body Confident Sport” tool by Nike and Dove is available free of charge at bodyconfidentsport.com, to reach 1 million young people worldwide, and possibly even more.

De La Soul Share Tribute To Trugoy The Dove

De La Soul just shared a touching Instagram tribute to their fallen member David Jude Jolicoeur, better known as Dave, J.D. Dove, or Trugoy the Dove. Moreover, member Maseo penned a dedication on the group’s official Instagram page, along with a picture of them signing their first record deal with Tommy Boy. “Dave, thank you so much for being in my life,” Plug Three wrote. “Although you and I would argue like hell, we would both admit when we were wrong and totally come full circle and say, ‘I Love You.’ I want to truly thank you for having the birds eye view of our collective vision to be a group.”

“Before Trugoy The Dove, I met J.D. Dove aside being called Dave in 1985,” he continued. “I remember your mom calling you Dove, so you’ve always had wings. So go on and fly into the light, Merce and I will make sure your legacy is well preserved. ‘We Are De La Soul’ for life and after life, but obviously, it will never be the same. On one end I’m happy you no longer have to suffer the pain of your condition. On the other hand I’m extremely upset at the fact that you’re not here to celebrate and enjoy what we worked and fought so hard to achieve.”

Also, Posdonous penned a message of his own on their page as well, calling Dave “the heart of the group. You brought so much creativity, energy, and passion to our music. Your influence will be felt for years to come. Your passing is a great loss not only to us, but also to the entire hip-hop community. You were a true artist who used music to inspire and uplift others. You will be deeply missed by all who knew you.”

“We would like to say thank you Dave for being a big brother,” Plug One concluded. “Thank you for being a friend, thank you for the wise words placed in your verses, thank you for the music you produced that is loved by so many. Thank you for never wanting to compromise the quality of our brand, thank you for helping us become a group that will remain etched in the timeline of hip hop culture as well as the fabric of music.” Read Posdonous’ tribute below and join HNHH in celebrating the life and indelible impact of Plug Two.
Long Live Trugoy The Dove.

Trugoy The Dove Of De La Soul Dead At 54

Trugoy the Dove of the legendary hip-hop group De La Soul has passed away at age 54, the group’s publicist confirmed. David Jude Jolicoeur previously opened up concerning his congestive heart failure since 2018. Moreover, the Haitan-American MC revealed more about his condition in 2020, on an IG livestream with fellow Soul members Posnodous and Maseo. What’s more is that he ran the De La Instagram account as well, and he thanked fans for their support. De La Soul, and Trugoy as a lyricist, storyteller, and artist, changed the course of hip-hop in the late ’80s and early ’90s.

Recently, the trio’s social media posts celebrated the upcoming rerelease of their first six studio albums on streaming services. Furthermore, on January 3rd, De La announced the March 3rd release of much of their early catalog. These include 3 Feet High and Rising, De La Soul is Dead, Buhloone Mindstate, Stakes Is High, Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump, and AOI: Bionix. Moreover, they announced the return of these classic projects via their social media pages and official website.

Trugoy the Dove’s Legacy

3 Feet High and Rising was inspired, maybe just the state that we were in as kids, just not afraid to say, ‘This is me.’ At the same time, it also gave birth to an era, a sound, a style in Hip Hop,” Trugory said during an interview with Ebro Darden. While their music hasn’t reached streaming because of sample clearance issues and shady contract deals, things smoothed out. Following an acquisition of their catalog in 2021, the group’s work will now properly compensate them for their greatness.

Given tracks like “The Magic Number,” “Me Myself and I,” and “Plug Tunin,” Trugoy’s impact on East Coast hip-hop and beyond is indelible. Along with the rest of the Native Tongues collective, they embraced idiosyncrasy, creativity, introspection, and social change in rap. Dave’s work with De La shot the group into the hip-hop hall of fame, with 3 Feet recently inducted into the Library of Congress. While their legacy as a group will forever mark the genre, Trugoy’s voice will continue to resonate with the hearts of so many.
Rest In Peace David Jude Jolicoeur, also known as Trugoy the Dove.
