Doja Cat’s Free Outdoor Show In Indianapolis Was Almost Ruined By A Bomb Threat

First, Doja Cat had to cancel one of her last appearances of 2021 due to Covid-19, now, the pop star has got crazed fans calling in threats to her shows. Doja was slated to perform a free show in Indianapolis today, but the show was briefly interrupted by the threat of a bomb and police cleared the area outside Monument Circle where fans had gathered for about 20 minutes while they investigated. Doja was slated to perform an outdoor show in downtown Indianapolis as part of the College Football Playoff national championship festivities, but a man making threats about a bomb almost derailed the set.

According to IndyStar, around 5 PM, a man made a threat about an explosive device. He is now in custody and police are investigating, but so far no bomb or evidence of one has been found. “A fan wanted to advance in line so he exercised very poor judgment and told those around him in line he had a bomb in his backpack,” Deputy Chief Joshua Barker said in a text message to IndyStar. “Someone did the right thing and alerted IMPD. The backpack was clean.”

Fans posted shots of just how packed the area was for the rapper’s performance, as well as some shots from the show, which went on as planned. Check them out below.

Doja Cat Wants To Record A Double Album With A Side That’s Strictly Hip-Hop

Doja Cat released her long-awaited third album Planet Her a few months ago. It featured 14 songs and help from names like Young Thug, SZA, JID, The Weeknd, and more. It also earned nominations for Album of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards. While there isn’t any pressure for her to put out her next album, Doja already has ideas for what she wants it to be.

During an Instagram Live session she held on Christmas Eve, Doja said she wants to create a double album. She said the first side would contain seven songs that would feature her typical pop-rap sound, while the second side would contain 12 songs in the traditional rap lane. She also revealed who she would like to supply production for the second side. “New project. 12 songs,” Doja said. “All of them, every f*ckin’ one, Jay Versace and 9th Wonder.”

Jay Versace and 9th Wonder each shared their reactions to Doja’s comments, the former simply tweeting “brah” while 9th Wonder wrote, “Say what now?”

iHeartRadio Canceled The Last Stop On The Jingle Ball Tour Due To Covid-19

If you thought we were out of the woods with the Covid-19 pandemic think again. The spread of a new variant called Omicron has already set back SNL‘s episode last night to a handful of cast members, and even led to the cancelation of Charli XCX’s performance on the show. Now, it’s led to another cancelation — the final stop on the Jingle Bell tour, which was slated to take place in Miami tonight. The tour has been marred by a handful of other cancellations by artists like Doja Cat, who faced exposures to the virus and needed to take the precaution.

But cases are so high as of this weekend that the radio station isn’t taking any risks and has put the kibosh on the whole tour, which was slated to include performances from Saweetie, Black Eyed Peas, AJR, Tate McRae, Monsta X, Bazzi, Anitta, and Dixie D’Amelio. “Due to the increased transmission of the new Covid-19 variant and to further minimize any potential risks, as a precautionary measure and for the safety of our staff, talent and guests, we have made the decision to cancel tonight’s iHeartRadio Y100 Jingle Ball,” iHeart said in a statement. “Thank you for your understanding. Ticket holders will receive a refund within 48 hours and if the have any issues, they should reach out to their point of purchase.”

Doja Cat Say She Almost Appeared On Billie Eilish’s 2017 Track ‘Bellyache’

Doja Cat rarely fails to rise to the occasion. Whether it’s through her own work and performances or guest features with other artists, the rapper seems to come through every time. However, there was one moment when she couldn’t get into the zone. During a profile with Rolling Stone, Doja revealed that she almost appeared on Billie’s 2017 track “Bellyache.” The song eventually arrived as a solo effort and the second single for Billie’s 2017 EP, Don’t Smile At Me. During the interview, Doja explained why she’s not on it.

“I remember thinking it was so cute. I loved it. I just couldn’t think of anything to write,” Doja said. “It was one of my writer’s-block moments.” Despite this, Doja wasn’t upset with herself for missing out. “I remember seeing that song blow up and thinking, ‘Good for her. That’s awesome,’” she added. “I don’t think the song was for me, though. It was quite hard to write to.”

Doja also addressed criticisms for past work with producer Dr. Luke, who was accused of sexual assault by singer and protégé Kesha back in 2014. “The point is he’s gotten some credit for sh*t,” she said. “And, you know, it’s whatever. I don’t think I need to work with him again. I don’t think I need to work with him in the future. I know that.”

Doja Cat Addresses Criticism For Dr. Luke Collaborations: ‘I Haven’t Worked With Him In A Very Long Time’

Although Doja Cat has had a huge breakout in the last two years, her success has come with increased scrutiny — especially when it comes to the stratospheric single that launched her to her current level of fame, “Say So.” The disco-pop hit became Doja’s first No. 1, but some fans have criticized the rapper-singer for collaborating with formerly disgraced producer Dr. Luke on the song. In 2014, Luke was accused of sexual assault and abuse by his protege Kesha, and some fans viewed “Say So” helping to relaunch his popularity as a betrayal of another woman on Doja’s part — despite Doja signing with Luke’s Kemosabe label before the accusations were made public.

In a new profile in Rolling Stone, a reluctant Doja Cat addressed the criticism, saying, “I haven’t worked with him in a very long time. A lot of those songs were . . . There’s shit that he’s credited for, where I’m like, ‘Hmm, I don’t know, I don’t know if you did anything on that.’ ” Although she declines to elaborate on which songs she means, she does offer insight into their future working relationship.

“The point is he’s gotten some credit for sh*t,” she says. “And, you know, it’s whatever. I don’t think I need to work with him again. I don’t think I need to work with him in the future. I know that. I think it was definitely nice of me to work with him.”

In a follow-up statement to Rolling Stone, Doja clarified that, “When asked about Luke I may have said something that someone could interpret as me saying that he had taken credit on things he didn’t deserve to. I just want to be clear that I have no firsthand knowledge of that being the case and I don’t want to participate in the rumor mill. The credits on my music are accurate, and I don’t want to imply anything else.” She attributes the earlier quote to defensiveness about men getting credit for women’s work. “As a young woman I think it is always important to fight for the credit that we are all due, and that was the point I was trying to make there,” she says.

Elsewhere in the rather comprehensive profile, she clears up why she looked bored performing her signature hit toward the end of its run, confirms her viral breakout hit “Mooo!” was an “obvious joke,” and addresses Nas’ throwaway criticism of her on “Ultra Black.”

Doja Cat Had To Cancel Some Jingle Ball Performances After Testing Positive For Covid-19

Looks like Doja Cat will be spending at least some of her holiday in quarantine. Although she was slated to appear for some Jingle Ball performances during the annual iHeartRadio Christmas tour this December, the rapper-pop-star had to disappoint fans when she tested positive for coronavirus. Doja has been performing behind her new album, Planet Her at various award shows this year, like the VMAs, but has yet to announce a full tour. Probably a good thing considering she now has to cancel some slated appearances.

“As most of you probably heard earlier, a few members on my production team tested positive for Covid-19 and I had to cancel a couple of my upcoming performances as a safety precaution,” she wrote on Twitter. “Unfortunately, I’m sad to share that I just tested positive as well and will no longer be able to perform on the rest of the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour. While my spirits are down since I can’t be there to celebrate the holiday with my fans in Philly, DC, Atlanta and Miami, I’m doing ok and look forward to recovering and getting back out there as soon as I can! The rest of the tour stops have some really great lineups, wish I could be there. Much love xo.”

Get well soon Doja! And everyone else, please remember to wear masks and social distance, we’re not out of the woods yet.
