On ‘Club Shay Shay’ John Cena Drops His Mt. Rushmore of Rap: “We All Have Our Favorites”

image

Bet you didn’t know John Cena dropped a Hip Hop album that went platinum. We didn’t have that on our bingo cards.

So in a recent appearance on “Club Shay Shay”, WWE superstar turned actor John Cena opened up about his early connection to rap music, describing it as an act of rebellion during a time when he craved more attention in his household.

“I was one of five boys, and I had a lot of angst with how the household was being run. I was a rebel. That music found me at the right time,” Cena shared to Shannon.

Like many young kids who loved real rap music, Cena was drawn to intricate wordplay, poetic bars, and lyrics that provoked deep thought. He revealed that even a powerful social justice anthem like N.W.A.’s “F”ck The Police,” though intense, resonated with him on a personal level. Interesting …

“To a 13-year-old kid, the police are my parents, and it was me who was like, ‘Well, f—k that,” Cena explained to Shannon Sharpe during the interview.

Onto the heavyweights … Cena also discussed his top influences in rap, listing Rakim, Eminem, Jay-Z, and Nas as his personal “Mount Rushmore of rap.”

“So for me, Jay-Z, Eminem, Nas, and Rakim. Man, Rakim’s voice. Everyone has their bias. I know that list is obviously going to incite riots. We all have our bias. We all have our favorites. That’s what makes music special. That’s what makes creativity special. I was brought up in the East Coast boom bap. I love wordplay, I love poetry. That’s what I based my character on, so I think all that’s super clever, and that’s my list,” Cena said.

Get this, Cena has been widely credited with introducing hip-hop to the WWE, a company that was traditionally seen as a rock and roll domain. Reflecting on this, Cena recalled, “They didn’t have any depth of field for hip-hop, and I listened to my own music being like: ‘I could do better than this.’ I called up a friend who knew a friend who had a studio. We got some beats and we made an album. And that was it, that was it.”

About that album, “You Can’t See Me”, remains Cena’s only music release, but it made an impact, debuting at number 15 on Billboard’s 200 list. Cena cited athletes like Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, who also dabbled in music, as influences on his own musical career.

ICYMI, Cena has announced his impending retirement from WWE, marking the end of an era for the superstar who not only excelled in the ring but also brought hip-hop into the wrestling spotlight.

Onto bigger and better, primarily Hollywood we’re sure and more.

Netflix has released the first trailer for Tyler Perry’s upcoming World War II film, “The Six Triple Eight”. The film, written and directed by Perry, is based on the true story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the first and only all-Black Women’s Army Corps unit to serve overseas during the war.

Let’s make no mistake, the WACs were vital to the war effort. The most important war this country ever fought. That part.

Leading the charge is Kerry Washington starring as Major Charity Adams, the battalion’s commanding officer. It’s an ensemble cast that includes Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, and Kylie Jefferson, among others, with appearances by Susan Sarandon, Dean Norris, and Oprah Winfrey.

“The Six Triple Eight” tells the story of these unsung heroes who overcame racism, sexism, and grueling working conditions to serve their country. Despite facing numerous obstacles, they were determined to deliver hope and shatter barriers.

Here’s the official rundown:

“THE SIX TRIPLE EIGHT is inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII. Despite facing racism and sexism – and grueling working conditions – they were committed to serving their country with honor and distinction. Given an extraordinary mission and united in their determination, these unsung heroes delivered hope and shattered barriers.”

Behind the camera the film is produced by Perry alongside Nicole Avant, Angi Bones, and others, the film will feature an original song titled “The Journey” by Diane Warren, performed by H.E.R., with choreography by Debbie Allen. “The Six Triple Eight” is set for a limited theatrical release on December 6, followed by a Netflix premiere on December 20.

After Ludacris Drinks Glacier Water in Alaska, Scientist Says He’ll Be Fine

image

ICYMI, Ludacris caused a stir online when he posted a video of himself drinking untreated water from an Alaska glacier.

I think what’s really funny is how he was dressed like he just popped out for a cook out on a 65 degree spring day with a varsity jacket, jeans etc. Ge said he had on ice cleats but dude was on a GLACIER. Like, c’mon.

Anyways …

Fans expressed concern that he could contract the parasite giardia, which can cause serious illness.

Yikes. But scientist-ing by tweet ins’t so scientific tbh.

Okay here’s the SCIENCE behind giardia. Symptoms of giardiasis can be serious. They include diarrhea, stomach cramps and dehydration. Ick. Then it can spread from one person to another. This happens through contaminated water, food and or surfaces. The Centers for Disease Control Prevention aka the CDC, remember those folks that fought for us during the pandemic, suggests people should avoid swallowing water while swimming and always boiling it or filter the water from lakes, springs or rivers before drinking it to prevent getting sick with well, giardia.

However, glaciologist Martin Truffer from the University of Alaska in Fairbanks dismissed these worries, calling the concerns “ludicrous.” Ha. See how he did that.

Truffer explained that drinking water from a melt stream on a glacier is one of the cleanest sources of water available. Gotcha.

“He’s totally fine,” Truffer said, adding, “There’s just really no concern on these glacial streams about safety.”

Ludacris, who was in Alaska to perform at the state fair, described the glacier water as “the best tasting water I’ve ever had in my life.” Is that right?

The rapper explored Knik Glacier and later joked about being a “water snob” in a video before his Minneapolis concert.

While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advise against drinking untreated water from natural sources due to risks like giardia, Truffer assured that glacier water is exceptionally pure. Well, let’s decide for ourselves.

Giardia from untreated glacier water, or nah?

SEE IT: Jimmy Butler to Star in New Netflix Docuseries ‘Starting 5’ Alongside LeBron James, Anthony Edwards and Others

image

Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler will be featured in a new Netflix documentary series titled “Starting 5”, set to premiere on October 9.

Gotta admit, this looks fire.

The series will provide an inside look at the lives of several NBA stars, including LeBron James, Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum, and Domantas Sabonis.

Kinda overdo, a show like this but if you don’t know the NBA is super strict with authorizing access to the teams, and hence the stars during the season. Brand protection and it makes sense.

“Starting 5” will go beyond game footage, showcasing behind-the-scenes moments from the players’ daily lives, both on and off the court. Like Hard Knocks but multiple teams and focused on stars only.

Butler, known for his vibrant personality and media day antics, including last year’s viral “Emo Jimmy” hairstyle, will likely captivate viewers with his off-court endeavors.

The series may also delve into Butler’s various side projects, including his coffee brand “Big Face Coffee,” his appearances in commercials and music videos, and his passion for sports like soccer and tennis. He’s gonna be a riot.

As the Miami Heat prepare for the upcoming season, fans can look forward to getting a closer look at Butler’s life through this highly anticipated Netflix series.

Well here’s the trailer:

Drake Leaks Unreleased Intended Kendrick Lamar Collab on 100 Gigs Website

image

Drake stays relevant. He recently sparked peculiar interest after sharing footage of an unreleased collab with Kendrick Lamar on his 100 Gigs website. Is the beef over? Who knows.

Okay, the video features Drake and his longtime producer Noah “40” Shebib in the studio, listening to a beat that Drake enthusiastically calls “crazy.”

After the beat plays, Drake confidently says, “For him, where he’s at, I know he’s gonna murder that sh”t,” to which 40 agrees, adding,

“When he told me Kendrick, it just made so much sense. Oh, the brilliance! So good.”

Get this, although the track never saw the light of day, the beat eventually went to Action Bronson, who used it for his 2015 track “Actin’ Crazy,” produced by 40 and Dreamville’s Omen.

This interesting relevation adds another layer to the history between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, who collaborated on tracks like “Buried Alive Interlude” from Drake’s 2011 album “Take Care” and “Poetic Justice” from Lamar’s “good kid, m.A.A.d city.”

Their so called cordial and seemingly collaborative relationship began to sour after Kendrick’s 2013 “Control” verse, where he called out several rappers, including Drake.

But wait, didn’t Drake start it? By sneak dissing? We’re confused.

Anyways the tension escalated and the rest is history

Trump Slanging $99 NFT Collection in Crypto Push

image

Let’s get something straight. When a former president sells sneakers, bibles, t-shirts, commemorative coins and now NFTs, there’s something weird going on.

Let’s get to the NFT thing. President Donald Trump has unveiled a new set of digital trading cards, part of his ongoing effort to engage with cryptocurrency enthusiasts as he eyes the upcoming election.

The “Series 4: The America First Collection” of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) was launched on Tuesday, each card priced at $99.

$99 bucks. For a Trump NFT. During the biggest presidential election season of modern times. Grifting his supporters. Doesn’t this seem weird?

Get this, the latest collection features Trump in various poses, including one as a “sneakerhead” showcasing his line of gold shoes, another depicting him in a superhero suit labeled “SuperTrump,” and several others under the title “crypto president,” a nickname he gave himself at a tech fundraiser earlier this year.

But check this out, it gets better. Trump’s NFTs come with various perks for buyers who meet certain spending thresholds, including autographed merchandise, pieces of his debate suit, and even dinner with the former president. High-end purchasers who spend $24,750, exclusively in cryptocurrency, are promised tickets to a Trump gala in Florida and cocktails with the former president.

The new collection follows a series of previous NFT drops that Trump claims have generated over $4 million per release, although the exact portion of that revenue going to Trump remains undisclosed. Wasn’t Tory Lanez doing this?

It appears Trump’s latest NFT launch is part of a broader strategy to appeal to the crypto community, despite his previous criticism of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, which he once described as a “scam against the dollar.”

If you recall, while in office, Trump was outspoken against cryptocurrency, calling it “highly volatile and based on thin air.” However, his stance has since softened, and he has made several moves to align himself with the crypto industry, including meeting with Bitcoin miners and speaking at major cryptocurrency events.

Trump’s embrace of the crypto world is seen as a bid to attract new supporters as he prepares for a tight election race against Vice President Kamala Harris. His running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, who’s getting more attention these days for his trips to donut shops and his haircut, if you want to call it that, is also a pro-crypto candidate, further solidifying their ticket’s appeal to the tech-savvy electorate.

Idk. Seems, weird.

The upcoming film, which is the directorial debut of Ethan Berger, dives into the dark underbelly of college fraternity culture, blending tension and intrigue with a strong ensemble cast.

Get this, “The Line”, which premiered at the Tribeca Festival in 2023, has been described as a “campus thriller that plunges into the dangerous world of college fraternities and blind adherence to tradition.”

Here’s the official breakdown:

“Alex Wolff stars as Tom, a scholarship student desperate to break free from his working-class background who is charmed by the prestigious KNA fraternity’s promises of high social status and alumni connections that open doors. But upon beginning a romance with Annabelle (Halle Bailey), a classmate outside of his social circle, and the manipulative schemes of his fraternity president (Lewis Pullman) unfolding during the hazing of new members, Tom finds himself ensnared in a perilous game of ambition and loyalty.”

Wendy Williams Makes Rare Public Appearance Appears ‘Sharp and Upbeat’

image

Talk show icon Wendy Williams was recently seen out and about in New Jersey. This marks a rare public appearance but thankfully has sparked positive reactions.

Obviously Williams is known for her long-running talk show, was spotted shopping at the Bolingo Balance shop, owned by Victor Bowman, the son of the late herbalist Dr. Sebi.

According to our friends at PageSix, Williams appeared “sharp, upbeat, and aware” during her visit, a significant update given her recent health struggles.

Williams’ son, Kevin Hunter Jr., accompanied her on the outing and assisted her throughout the visit. While Williams was reportedly “engaging,” it was noted that she was not entirely familiar with the products at the store, prompting her son to explain more about them. Items gifted to Williams included natural remedies like sarsaparilla, contribo, bottano oil, and capsules from Dr. Sebi’s collection.

This sighting comes amid ongoing concerns about Williams’ health.

ICYMI, in February 2022, she was placed under court-ordered guardianship after her bank, Wells Fargo, raised concerns about her well-being. The bank requested an inquiry, leading to a court decision to appoint a guardian to manage her finances, citing fears of “undue influence and financial exploitation.”

Get this, Williams publicly opposed the guardianship, asserting her independence in an interview. “They say that I need somebody to handle my account. And I don’t want that,” she stated. “I want all my money. I want to see all my money that I’ve worked hard for my entire life.”

But earlier this year, Williams revealed that she had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.

That diagnosis is a big deal and almost identical to what famed actor Bruce Willis is suffering from.

Her diagnosis follows her previous battles with Graves’ Disease, Lymphedema, and other health issues. In response to her health challenges, her team released a statement, expressing that the decision to share her diagnosis was difficult but necessary to raise awareness.

Williams’ struggles have also been the subject of a recent Lifetime documentary, “Where Is Wendy Williams?” However, the film has been criticized as exploitative by her publicist, Shawn Zanotti, and her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, who described the project as a “blatant exploitation of a vulnerable woman with a serious medical condition.”

We’re wishing Williams the best and this sighting was certainly hopeful.

Quavo Salutes Drake: ‘Never Forget What We Did’

Quavo Salutes Drake: 'Never Forget What We Did'

Quavo is standing ten toes down in Drake being his friend. Drake’s career has flooded the Internet with an opening of his archives via 100 Gigs. Quavo shared an old clip of The Boy with Migos and wrote, “@champagnepapi Never forget what we did gang!!! Migo gang 4L. Drake SInatra.”

Drake recently dropped new music. Three new tracks—”Circadian Rhythm,” “SOD,” and “No Face” featuring Playboi Carti all “leaked” through @plottttwistttttt, his finsta IG account.

Let’s get right to it.

”SOD” might be familiar to fans as it was previously known as “Supersoak,” a track that streamer Kai Cenat debuted last month. Get this: initially, it featured a verse from Lil Yachty, but after clearance issues over the sample with Mr. HotSpot. Yachty’s verse was removed for the official release. Interesting.

The “Circadian Rhythm” track is sparking speculation due to its possible connection to Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “6:16 in LA.” Some listeners believe the song’s title references a line from Lamar’s track, where he raps about “circadian rhythms of a shooting star,” hinting at a potential response from Drake in the ongoing tension between the two artists. Who knows. We’ll see if Dot responds or thinks he even needs to.

In “No Face,” Drake aims at his critics, rapping, “I’m just so happy that n—s who envied and held that shit in got to finally show it / I’m over the moon, yeah, we’ll see you boys soon.” Sounds about right.

ICYMI, these new releases follow Drake’s recent drop on 100gigs.org, where he shared a massive collection of unreleased music, behind-the-scenes footage, tour set designs, and studio clips. Among the previous releases were tracks like “It’s Up” featuring Young Thug and 21 Savage, “Blue Green Red,” and “Housekeeping Knows” featuring Latto, which also made their initial debut on his Instagram burner before being officially released on streaming platforms.

Content, content, content.
