Drake Wins Five 2023 Billboard Music Awards

The 2023 Billboard Music Awards went down on Sunday (November 19), and had a lot of big winners. Taylor Swift and Morgan Gallen were among the most awarded musicians of the night, but what’s a top dog conversation without the 6 Dog- I mean, God? Moreover, Drake won a total of five BBMA trophies for the occasion, pointing to his excellent commercial run over the past few years. Specifically, these awards were Top Rap Album for his 21 S*vage collab Her Loss, Top Rap Song for the project’s opener “Rich Flex,” Top Rap Artist, Top Male Rap Artist, and Top Rap Touring Artist.

Furthermore, this caps off a pretty great 2023 for Drizzy, with the expanded version of his album For All The Dogs coming out just a few days ago as of writing this article. Sure, that promo cycle brought him his fair share of beefs, too. But what’s the industry without a little tussling, especially when you’re at such a high peak of success and polarization? Regardless, congrats to Drake on these awards, and we’re sure that this won’t be the end of his award show run in the next few months.

For example, the Recording Academy nominated him for various Grammy awards after re-entering the submission process. For those unaware, the Toronto superstar hadn’t submitted his work for consideration in a long time, and it’s unclear if this will affect his nominations for the 2024 ceremony in a negative or positive light. Whichever way the wind blows, he might spit a bar or two about it eventually, but we’re sure it won’t faze him too much. After all, Drake basks in constant acclaim; only something really special these days to either hype him up or tick him off.

Meanwhile, Scary Hours 3 is shaping up to sell very well based on first-week projections, so the success will surely keep on rolling in. Do you think that he deserves these dubs or is Billboard not a good enough metric to determine his value? However you may feel, let us know in the comments down below. Latto And Jung Kook’s “Seven” Is Now The Quickest Song To Eclipse One Billion Streams On Spotify

Latto’s rise within the hip-hop industry has been truly incredible to witness. She is undoubtedly one of the top candidates for rap MVP for 2023. Currently, she sits at right under 31 million monthly Spotify listeners, and for good reason. Her biggest hits are globally popular. “Big Energy,” while released in 2021, is still one of the hottest singles two years later with over 287 million plays. In addition, the track also peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 2022. Now, though, she can say she has the fastest song to reach one billion plays on her resume.

According to HipHopDX and Chart Data, the Georgia rapper’s guest appearance on Jung Kook’s track, “Seven,” is now over the one billion mark. While that is impressive, what is even more eye-popping is the record-breaking speed at which it reached it. Only three and a half months went by before it went over eight digits.

Revisit “Seven” From Jung Kook And Latto

On top of the success on the streaming platform, the music video for “Seven” is also going strong. It has over 267 million views on YouTube in the same amount of time. Besides the crossover success with the BTS star, Latto, Mike WiLL Made-It and Swae Lee partnered with the NBA to bring a theme song for the 2023-2024 season. Latto’s “Big Energy” cannot be contained and will not be for quite some time.

What are your initial thoughts on Latto and Jung Kook having the fastest song to reach one billion streams with “Seven?” Is this record still in your rotation? Is Latto the rap MVP of 2023? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below. Ice Spice Continues To Dominate The Billboard Hot 100

The year 2023 is quickly becoming the year of Ice Spice. Her debut on the Billboard Hot 100 was back in January, and she hasn’t really left since. That song was “Gangsta Boo” and featured Lil Tjay. Now, she has two tracks gracing the list: “Karma” by Taylor Swift, in which Ice Spice features on this version, and “Barbie World,” a reinvention of the Aqua classic featuring Nicki Minaj. The songs are ranked eight and seven, respectively. “Barbie World” comes from the Barbie movie soundtrack. Barbie is set to release on July 21, with Margot Robbie as the titular character and Ryan Gosling as Ken.

The song with Nicki marks Ice Spice’s fourth foray into the Billboard Hot 100. (“Barbie World” is Minaj’s 23rd track to be included on the list, a record for all female rappers.) And while Morgan Whalen’s “Last Night” came out at number one for the 13th week, Ice Spice is the one artist with two tracks in the top ten. She did this once before, in late April of this year, when “Princess Diana” and “Boy’s A Liar, Pt. 2” (which features PinkPantheress) were fourth and tenth, respectively. Ice Spice has claimed her throne at the top of the rap game, and she brought one of the original queens with her, Nicki Minaj.

The Singularity Of Ice Spice

Spice is having a moment in the rap and music industries. She and Nicki Minaj dapped each other up via Twitter, celebrating the success of their collaboration. Nicki was also on “Princess Diana.” That makes it and “Barbie World” two separate songs where two solo artists came together to make absolute bangers. Essentially, you put Ice Spice on a track, and she makes it Billboard Hot 100 gold. Simple as that.

As for Spice in her life, she seems to be enjoying her huge launch into fame. She releases photo dumps of herself at various events, including the BET Awards and the Longitude Festival. Also, she turned down the opportunity to be the XXL Freshman cover artist. When you can say no to what most rappers dream of, you know you’re doing something right. She’ll continue to see more of her songs make splashy debuts on the Billboard Hot 100. For now, the two songs in the top ten will definitely do.
