What’s The Difference Beyoncé Cé Noir And Cé Lumière Perfumes?

It has been about a year since Beyoncé launched her Cé Noir fragrance, which — like most things Beyoncé puts on the market — has been a roaring success. Today, she announced its follow-up, a new fragrance called Cé Lumière. For those who don’t speak French (or took the Beauty And The Beast character’s candlestick transformation less metaphorically), that means “light.”

As such, the fragrance leans in a different direction than its predecessor. According to fragrantica.com, Cé Noir is considered a darker, more mysterious scent, while Cé Lumière is a lighter, brighter fragrance; essentially, “Cé Noir” represents darkness and “Cé Lumière” represents light. To that end, it switches up the original scent, which had “top notes of clementine and golden honey, heart notes of rose absolute and jasmine sambac, and base notes of Namibian myrrh and golden amber,” opting for Madagascar black pepper and Italian mandarin, a heart consisting of jasmine Sambac absolute and rhubarb, and a base of Indonesian patchouli and skin musk.

Cé Lumière is available for pre-order on Beyoncé’s official website in the US and Canada, priced at $160 for a 50 ml Eau de Parfum, with shipping scheduled for November 2024.

Here’s The Meaning Behind Beyoncé’s Cé Noir Perfume Name

The Renaissance era continues. While Beyoncé concluded her critically-acclaimed Renaissance World Tour earlier this month, this particular chapter in the lore of Beyoncé isn’t over quite yet. This December, Beyoncé will premiere Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé, which will contain footage from the tour, and is also rumored to contain the long-awaited music videos for the Renaissance album.

But between now and then, Bey has unveiled a new fragrance called Cé Noir. She took to Instagram yesterday to share a video of herself unboxing a bottle of Cé Noir.

As the Renaissance album is a celebration of Black culture, it’s only fitting that the perfume is called Cé Noir, which is French for “this black” or “this blackness.” It’s also likely that she added the accent mark on the “e” of “ce” as an allusion to her name.

In the video, she said the perfume took “years of work” to come together, and noted that she has worn it during performances on the Renaissance World Tour.

“I wanted something to be monolithic and I wanted something to have a little bit of intimacy,” said Beyoncé.

Fans can pre-order Cé Noir from Beyoncé’s official website. The perfume will begin shipping in November.

Here What Beyoncé’s New ‘Cé Noir’ Perfume Will Smell Like

According to Live Nation, Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour grossed $579 million across Europe and the US, making it “the highest-grossing tour by a female artist, American soloist, and Black artist in history.” She followed that up by attending Taylor Swift’s Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour premiere — a big bummer for anyone who had been committed to pitting two of the world’s most powerful women against each other — as she prepares her own theatrical release for Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé in December.

Smells like success! But what will her newly unveiled perfume, Cé Noir, smell like?

“Created in France, and crafted and designed by Beyoncé, ‘Cé Noir’ contains top notes of clementine and golden honey, heart notes of rose absolute and jasmine sambac, and base notes of Namibian myrrh and golden amber,” says Billboard. “Concertgoers in Inglewood, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Tampa, Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington, D.C. and more cities were treated to sample strips of ‘Cé Noir.’”

Beyoncé announced the perfume on Tuesday, October 24, with an Instagram video that was captioned, “Beyoncé Parfums presents CÉ NOIR. Pre-order now on parfum.beyonce.com for shipping in November and in time for the holidays.” Over on the official website, it’s listed for $160 and only available for customers in the US and Canada.

How Much Will Beyoncé’s New Perfume Cé Noir Cost?

Beyoncé has announced the launch of her latest perfume, Cé Noir. The perfume is already for sale on beyonce.com, while her Instagram announcement promises that the fragrance will ship in November — giving it enough time to arrive for the holidays. Per Harper’s, the scent is “both floral and gourmand,” with clementine, rose, and honey notes. Fans can get 1.7 oz bottles for $160.

Harper’s Bazaar has a full report on the new fragrance, writing:

The Cé Noir bottle is topped by a half-domed cap, with stairlike edges on its neck and a streamlined engraving of its name on one side. Since the fragrance is developed in France, “crafted and designed by Beyoncé,” and “encased in art,” it’s practically guaranteed to be a standout on your vanity. It is also anchored by a built-in stand for ultimate perfume elevation.

Earlier this year, Beyoncé teased an upcoming hair care line, writing, “I can’t wait for you to experience what I’ve been creating can’t wait for you to experience what I’ve been creating,” on Instagram alongside a throwback photo of herself at her mother’s hair salon. This led to fans believing that she’ll either be offering hair care products or a brand of actual hair for weaves or wigs.

Meanwhile, fans have plenty more Beyoncé to look forward to; her Renaissance World Tour concert film hits theaters soon.

When Does Beyoncé’s New Perfume Cé Noir Come Out?

Now that her Renaissance World Tour is wrapped up for 2023 — at least, until she heads down south for the South American leg — the singer has turned her attention to other endeavors. While her fans were convinced her next move would be a hair care line, it turns out she’s gone a more traditional route, announcing a new fragrance, Cé Noir.

The perfume is already for sale on beyonce.com, while her Instagram announcement promises that the fragrance will ship in November — giving it enough time to arrive for the holidays.

Cé Noir is Beyoncé’s third fragrance, after launching Heat in 2010. Heat was followed by Heat Rush; both were created by Coty.

Beyoncé is just one of many, many stars who’ve released their own branded fragrances including Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, and Dolly Parton.

Despite having a seemingly full slate already with all these new businesses launching within a month of each other, Beyoncé still had time to show appreciation for her hypothetical rival Taylor Swift, popping out at the premiere of Swift’s Eras Tour film, even though she’s got a competing concert film coming soon.
