Fat Joe, Ludacris, Nas, Metro Boomin And More Artists Congratulated Carmelo Anthony On His NBA Retirement

Carmelo Anthony formally announced his retirement from the NBA after beginning his career as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft for the Denver Nuggets — the same draft that saw LeBron James go No. 1.

Melo’s impact was celebrated throughout the music world upon his announcement. Melo’s comments section was predictably full of love from the likes of Juicy J (“Congrats mane!”), Lloyd Banks (“Thanks for everything you’ve done for basketball,” and Rapsody (five rose emojis).

“We’ll done [sic] brother we’ll done [sic] @carmeloanthony Congratulations you deserve all the glory,” Fat Joe wrote to caption an Instagram photo of Anthony during his New York Knicks years.

Nas narrated and reposted an Instagram reel made alongside Jumpman — Fabolous reposted the same reel to his Instagram Story alongside, “Congrats on a hell of a career” — and Metro Boomin simply posted a throwback photo of Nuggets-era Melo posting up the late Kobe Bryant:

King James might be joining Anthony in retirement sooner than previously assumed after the Los Angeles Lakers were swept out of the 2023 NBA Playoffs by the Nuggets last night, May 22. But for now, it’s about Melo, who ironically last appeared on an NBA court as a Laker during the 2021-22 season.

“I remember the days when I had nothin’ — just a ball on the court and a dream of something more — but basketball was my outlet,” the 10-time All-Star and future Hall Of Famer said in a video posted to Instagram on May 22. “My purpose was strong, my communities, the cities I represented the pride, and the fans that supported me along the way. I am forever grateful for those people and places because they made me Carmelo Anthony.”

He continued, “But now the time has come for me to say goodbye. To the court where I made my name, to the game that gave me purpose and pride. With this bittersweet goodbye to the NBA, I’m excited about what the future holds for me.”

Anthony also explained that he believes his legacy is “more than basketball” and will live on through his son. The video was soundtracked by “All That I Got Is You” by Ghostface Killah featuring Mary J. Blige.

Nas & Fat Joe Lead Hip Hop Tributes To Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony announced his retirement from the NBA on May 22. While the 38-year-old had not played since the 2021-22 season, the news still came as something of a shock to many. In his prime, Anthony was one of the best shooters in the NBA. Furthermore, he finishes his career as the 9th all-time scorer in the league.

After a stellar career at Syracuse University, which included a national championship in his freshman year, Anthony was the third-overall pick in the 2003 draft. He spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Nuggets. before being sent to the Knicks in a blockbuster 2011 trade. After six years in New York, Melo was once again traded, this time heading to Oklahoma City. Less than a year later, he was infamously traded to the Hawks only to be waived five days later without ever suiting up for the team. However, the final years of his career were defined by bouncing from team to team. He played what would become his last season with the Lakers in 2021-22.

In the wake of the announcement, many big-name stars in the sports world and beyond have shared their thoughts on Melo. First, there was Nas, who narrated an Air Jordans video about Melo’s career. “He didn’t do it for the accolades or the Hall of Fame votes,” Nas said over footage of Melo’s many jerseys. “Boy did it for the kids from Red Hook, the crew from the block, Murphy Homes projects, San Juan, those with hoops dreams, dreams of hope and beyond. So when they look up, they see the sky for what it is: just another place for them to fly.”

Meanwhile, diehard Knicks fan Fat Joe shared his thanks to Melo. Anthony helped the team reach the second round of the playoffs in 2013. Additionally, it had been the first time the Knicks had done so since 2000. “Well done brother well done @carmeloanthony Congratulations you deserve all the glory,” the rapper wrote on Instagram. Furthermore, other tributes came from the likes of Metro Boomin, Ludacris, and 9th Wonder. What is your favorite Carmelo Anthony highlight? Let us know in the comments.

#BHM Happy Born Day To The Man Named Allah! 7 Facts That You May Not Know About The Founder Of The 5% Nation

Screen Shot 2023 02 22 at 9.02.30 AM

Many people may have heard of the “Five Percenters” or the teachings that stem from this cultural phenomenon born in the ghettos of America, but there are very few who are familiar with the origins of the 5% Nation (also known as the Nation Of Gods and Earths) or that of the founder of the Five Percent, who is best known as Allah. Artists and athletes such as Jay-Z and Carmelo Anthony have shown either their allegiance or alliance to Allah’s 56-year-old Nation. Of all of the religious and nationalist movements of the revolutionary 1960s, his story is always left out of Black History Month recognition, even though Allah met the same treacherous fate as many of the Black leaders of that era.

Born on this date in 1928, the man known as Allah was born Clarence Edward Smith to Louis and Mary Smith in Danville, Virginia. He moved to Harlem, New York as a young adult and it was from there that he began his lifelong journey in establishing a legacy of pride, righteousness, and all-inclusivity among the youth that has expanded all over the globe.

In commemoration of Black History Month, TheSource.com brings you seven facts about Allah and what his 5% Nation has brought to the Black, Latino, Asian and white youth in the United States and around the world.

  1. Allah fought in the Korean War; won several medals including the Silver Star and Purple Heart.
  2. He was a member of Nation Of Islam’s Temple No. 7 under Minister Malcolm X, however, left the NOI in 1963 shortly before Malcolm’s departure.
  3. Allah was given the “Street Academy” at 2122 7th Avenue(now known as Allah School In Mecca) by NYC Mayor John Lindsay in 1967.
  4. Allah was proficient at martial arts, which he learned in Korea and was an instructor to the members of NOI security, Fruit Of Islam.
  5. Allah was not anti-white and taught white 5%ers, including Mayor Lindsay’s assistant Barry Gotterher.
  6. Allah was killed by unknown assailants on June 13, 1969, however, it was revealed in a document declassified by the FBI in 1981 that he was a target of J.Edgar Hoover’s COINTELPRO initiative aimed at Black leaders.
  7. The message of the 5% is not a thing of Hip Hop’s past. Artists such as NYC’s Fame Labs, Detroit’s(D-Mecca) Njeri Earth and Allah Magnetic aka Mullah Don who carries on Allah’s tradition through their music.

La La Anthony & Jason Lee Discuss His Coverage Of Carmelo Anthony’s Alleged Twins With Another Woman

When mistakes are made in the media world, it’s important for them to be upright with those they misrepresented. La La Anthony and Jason Lee spoke about the time that Lee covered news of La La’s ex Carmelo Anthony allegedly fathering twins with another woman. Moreover, Lee spoke about how her words after his story went out really affected him and his view on her story. “Lala Anthony and I talked about the time my team dropped an exclusive that impacted her and her family and how we handled it,” Lee wrote via Instagram. “Often times the ‘messy’ narrative has been painted about me because of the world we report on. Some celebrities choose to participate in the process and others don’t. This is an example of how these type of relationships can work. Thanks @lala for seeing me!”

“The crossroad where I thought ‘La La’s not going to be our friend anymore’ was when I broke that the story about the twins. When you called me, I thought you were about to cuss me out and go Brooklyn. She said to me- I will never forget and this is when I fell in love with you. You said, ‘You gon’ write whatever you gon’ write, and none of that has anything to do with me. Just think about my son when you do that.’ I was like ‘Oh, shit!’ I don’t follow all the stories, because I can’t follow everything. But that one I made sure I stayed on top of to make sure that we handled it delicately. That was some real grown woman mother… Like, ‘I understand you have a job.’ Where does that come from?” Lee asked La La during their conversation.

“Well, one, I want to go back to that,” the 40-year-old replied. “I know I’ve said ‘thank you’ before but I want to thank you again. Anyone in this room will say I’ve told that story to everyone that works with me. What stood out about you to me is that that was a very traumatic experience in my life, a very traumatic experience to my son. Hearing things, whether true or not true. And to be able to have made that call, and you respected what I said and understood that. I’m a mom to a teenager that has to see those things. I always appreciated and respected that.”

“No, of course,” the Hollywood Unlocked reporter said. “Where does that presence come from? I mean I met your mom, she’s amazing. You know, Mom’s ain’t playing, she over there looking at me like ‘Keep them questions cute.’” While everyone in the room laughed, La La’s words honored her mother. “Yeah, probably my mom. My mom is actually super calm, like, I’m the turnt one. My mom is calm. Ma’, don’t you always say ‘I don’t know where you came from’?” Check out the full interview below and stay tuned to HNHH for the latest on La La Anthony.

The Breakfast Club continues to roll out its guest hosts, and this time, it’s La La Anthony. The actress joined Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy on their hit show, and during her appearance, Anthony spoke about people assuming that celebrities cheat in their relationships.

“The people in the public eye go through stuff,” Anthony said. “It’s like this kinda idea of like, well, people don’t feel bad for them, or what did you expect, or what did you think.”

“Especially even dealing with athletes,” she continued. “It’s kinda like, well, what did you think was gonna happen? Guess what? Nobody goes into a marriage thinking that that’s gonna happen.”

“No, you don’t go into a marriage thinking that. If you thought that and believed that your connection with that person wasn’t something different, then you wouldn’t get married to them.”

Charlamagne mentioned that La La previously said that “people are gon’ cheat.”

Anthony corrected him, replying that entering into a marriage isn’t the same when expectations have been laid.

“I went into a marriage saying I found a connection with someone that, we’re gonna do it different,” she said. “Regardless if you’re an athlete, whatever you are, entertainer. Any kind of business you’re in.”

La La ended her marriage to NBA star Carmelo Anthony in 2021 when she filed for divorce. Throughout their relationship, several rumors of infidelity on Carmelo’s part surfaced. There were even allegations that he fathered a child with another woman.

J. Cole Teams Up With NBA Superstar Carmelo Anthony To Dominate Their Pickup Game

Even though he finally fulfilled his dream of playing basketball professionally earlier this year with the Basketball Africa League, J. Cole has still been keeping up his skills practice. He recently worked out with NBA trainer Phil Handy and the Lakers’ Talen Horton-Tucker, and it looks like he’s still playing pickup ball pretty regularly. At a recent run with even more NBA trainers, he picked up a teammate who knows a little bit about playing with pros: Carmelo Anthony.

Footage from the session was posted to social media depicting Cole and Melo teaming up at a run that also featured the Houston Rockets’ Kevin Porter Jr. Cole appears to be keeping up, sinking a pull-up jumper in transition and feeding Melo for an easy top-of-the-key, catch-and-shoot three. Of course, Melo’s highlights dominate the clip as he pours in bucket after bucket from seemingly everywhere on the floor.

Judging from the fact that Cole has been popping up with NBA trainers, it doesn’t look like he totally satisfied just with playing overseas. He’s certainly received some positive feedback from many of the players he played with for Rwanda, although he received his share of criticism too. Whether he’s still pursuing the NBA or just working on improving his skills, the work ethic he spoke about leading into the release of his new album The Off-Season looks to be intact as he prepares to go on tour with 21 Savage and Morray to promote the new project.
