Travis Scott Was Praising Caitlin Clark Years Before Her National Fame, NBA Trainer Recalls

NBA trainer Chris Brickley revealed on Instagram, last week, that Travis Scott was hip to Caitlin Clark’s talents on the basketball court long before most of the national media caught on. Brickley shared a text exchange he had with the rapper back in March 2021, in which Scott brought up Clark. “Man, Caitlin Clark has had a great college career but NOBODY was on her b4 my brodie @trvisXX [checkered flag emoji],” Brickley’s tweet read. “This was a text from March 24th, 2021 [two red exclamation emojis].” In the conversation, Scott wrote: “Caitlin Clark [six brain exploding emojis].”

Brickley posted the exchange before Clark and her Iowa teammates defeated UConn 71-69 on April 5 to advance to the National Championship game. They ended up falling to South Carolina in the title game on Sunday by a score of 87-75.

Ahead of the National Championship, Clark spoke against the idea that her legacy was on the line. Instead, she wants to be remembered for changing women’s basketball. “I don’t want my legacy to be, ‘Oh, Caitlin won X amount of games’ or ‘Caitlin scored X amount of points,’” she said. “I hope it’s what I was able to do for the game of women’s basketball, I hope it is the young boys and young girls that are inspired to play this sport or dream to do whatever they want to do in their lives. To me, for it to come down to 40 minutes, and for me to validate myself within 40 minutes, I don’t think that’s a fair assessment.”

SOURCE SPORTS: Iowa-LSU Rematch Sets Ratings Record for Women’s College Basketball

Iowa’s triumph over LSU in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Elite Eight garnered unprecedented viewership, with an average of 12.3 million viewers and a peak of 16 million viewers. This shattered the previous record set by LSU’s win over Iowa in last year’s championship, which averaged 9.9 million viewers and peaked at 12.6 million.

In Monday’s other Elite Eight matchup, UConn’s victory over USC drew 6.7 million viewers, approaching record-breaking levels for title game viewership. The viewership for UConn-USC peaked at 10.4 million viewers.

According to The Atheltic, these figures mark a significant milestone in women’s basketball viewership. Before last year, the previous record for an NCAA women’s basketball title game in the ESPN era (since 1996) was 5.68 million viewers for UConn’s title win over Oklahoma in 2002. Additionally, the record for any women’s basketball game before last year’s championship was 8.1 million viewers for a Virginia-Stanford national semifinal on CBS in 1992.

Caitlin Clark got her get back. In the Elite 8, Clark and her Iowa Hawkeyes basketball team got the rematch of last year’s national championship matchup with Angel Reese and the LSU Tigers.

Lil Durk offered Iowa basketball star Caitlin Clark $10 million to play ball with his team following her 41-point performance against LSU in the Elite Eight on Monday night. The proposition comes after Ice Cube made a similar offer for Clark to join the BIG3 league in addition to the WNBA. Responding to Complex’s coverage of Cube’s offer, Durk wrote on Twitter: “I got 10 million come play with my 3.”

As for Cube’s offer, he explained why he wants Clark in the BIG3 on Instagram. “We intended the offer to remain private while Caitlin Clark plays for the championship. When asked about the situation, Clark said her focus is on her current team while speaking to the media ahead of the Sweet Sixteen. “To be honest, I found out about the BIG3 thing at the exact time you all did, and my main focus is on just playing basketball,” she said at the time. “I honestly don’t talk about those things with really anybody. I have other people that deal with it, and they haven’t said a word to me about it. My main focus is on this team and helping us find a way to beat Colorado and hopefully win another one after that.”

Angel Reese In Tears While Describing Death Threats & Sexualization Since Winning National Title

Angel Reese is easily one of the most notable players in the NCAA right now. Overall, she is a fantastic player who saw lots of success with LSU last season. In the end, she helped defeat Caitlin Clark and Iowa in the championship game. However, in 2024, her season has been much more difficult. The media has been on her case, and some fans have been especially cruel towards her. On Monday, she played a rematch against Caitlin Clark and Iowa, however, this time around, it was the Hawkeyes who were victorious.

It was a massive game for Clark as she was able to score 41 points in the win. As for Reese, she has 17 points and 20 rebounds. Unfortunately, the defense just wasn’t there as Clark hit three after three. Following the game, Angel Reese spoke to the media about the loss and what is next for her. As you can see below, she was visibly upset following the game. Reese has gone through hell, and as she explained, people have sent her death threats. Not to mention, they have also been sexualizing her.

Caitlin Clark is positioned to be basketball’s first $5 million woman if she accepts the deal from the Big3 league, a 3-on-3 basketball league owned and operated by Ice Cube.

The iconic West Coast rapper turned business mogul and let the basketball world know he meant business when he spoke about the no-brainer offer to Caitlin Clark.

“Caitlin is a generational athlete who can achieve tremendous success in the BIG3,” he posted on X. He also pointed out that the Big3 had a track record of breaking down barriers with female coaches like Nancy Lieberman and Lisa Leslie.

“With our offer, Caitlin Clark can make history and break down even more barriers for women athletes,” Cube said.

Cube even weighed in on the Big3 being a better alternative to earn a living in the WNBA offseason rather than going overseas. “And they should have more than just one professional option in the US at a time when American pro sports leagues are being infiltrated by autocratic, anti-women regimes such as Qatar,” he said. “Our pathbreaking offer to Caitlin Clark demonstrates that BIG3 now offers another choice for athletes.”

Here’s what the deal basics look like based on sources to TMZ, who know the offer … $5 million to play eight regular-season games and possibly two playoff games! That’s it—10 games for $5 mil, guaranteed.

We’re told Clark would also get “substantial additional compensation” generated from merchandising and sponsorship revenue. What’s even more important is that Big3 would still allow Clark to play in the WNBA, and there would only be two games in scheduling conflict, so that looks like a win all around if she accepts Cube’s deal.

While this is a big deal on face value, what else makes this contract so massive for Caitlin? Well, the highest paid WNBA player last season was Erica Wheeler, making $242,000. To say that Caitlin Clark might be the biggest star in women’s basketball at the moment feels like an understatement of the order of saying something like “the sun is very large and very hot.” Besides being inadequate to describe the phenomenon in question, it’s also horrendously obvious.

Case in point, Clark Fever (Mania?) is at such all-time highs, even men’s sports leagues want in on the action. Ice Cube, proprietor of the innovative BIG3 league, even offered Clark $5 million to play in the BIG3 this summer. According to TMZ, the deal would be for eight regular-season games and two possible playoff games, while still allowing her to play in the WNBA.

Cube explained providing the offer, saying, “Caitlin is a generational athlete who can achieve tremendous success in the BIG3. With our offer, Caitlin Clark can make history and break down even more barriers for women athletes.” He even got polictical, rightly pointing out that women “should have more than just one professional option in the US at a time when American pro sports leagues are being infiltrated by autocratic, anti-women regimes such as Qatar.” The specter of Brittney Griner’s recent ordeal looms large.

While we’re sure that he’s making this offer in good faith (despite bypassing no small number of Clark’s fellow stars), it seems … unlikely that Clark would be able to play in BIG3 and WNBA at the same time, as their seasons greatly overlap. Intriguingly, though, only two BIG3 games overlap with games for the Indiana Fever, the team that seems most likely to land Clark in this season’s upcoming draft. The additional travel and game wear doesn’t eem like it’d be quite worth it, but hey, stranger things have happened in Indiana (ba-dum, tsss).

However, one place Cube’s statement is thankfully inaccurate is that there is more than one women’s basketball option for players opting out of overseas play. The Athletes Unlimited Pro Hoops league just concluded its third season this past weekend. So, if Clark wants to stay sharp, she certainly has at least one other option in 2025.

Stephen A. Smith tried to argue that Caitlin Clark was not the GOAT of women’s college basketball seconds after admitting he was “in no way an expert on women’s college basketball”. Instead, Smith’s pick for the GOAT was Cheryl Miller, who won the second and third women’s March Madness ever hosted with USC. Miller is also 15th on the all-time scoring list and was named Player of the Year three times.

It is undeniable that Miller is both one of the greatest players of all time and absolutely a pioneer of women’s basketball. However, to compare her to Clark is folly. Clark plays in an era with much more parity across the sport compared to Miller. That means that Clark is a better player against better overall competition. Meanwhile, Miller’s national titles came during an era when the women’s March Madness bracket was half the size it is now. Again, Miller is a legend. But she is not the GOAT.

Jalen Hurts Or Dak Prescott? Stephen A. Smith Picks Which QB He Has More Faith In

Elsewhere, Smith didn’t pass up an opportunity to dunk on the Cowboys when Mina Kimes stopped by First Take. After Kimes posed the question of whether the desk had more faith in Jalen Hurts or Dak Prescott, Smith was quick to answer. “Jalen Hurts got Saquon. Jalen Hurts got an offensive line that I would absolutely say is better than the Cowboys. I don’t see any reason why I would pick Dak over Hurts in this particular question,” Smith reasoned.

The Eagles and Cowboys really have been the tale of two offseasons this year. As Smith mentioned, the Eagles added a number RB1 in Saquon Barkley. Iowa captured their third consecutive Big Ten title in a wild OT thriller against Nebraska. Trailing by 11 at the half, Iowa needed a huge 30-point second half from Caitlin Clark to force OT. In the extra period, the Hawkeyes were finally able to pull away from the relentless Huskers. With the win, Iowa has likely captured a No. 1 seeding during next week’s Selection Sunday. Iowa had a fairly easy run to the title game, beating Penn State and Michigan, both by double digits.

Meanwhile, Chattanooga also punched their ticket to the Big Dance with a 69-60 win over UNC Greensboro in the Southern Conference. The Mocs and Hawkeyes joined UT Martin, who punched their ticket on Friday. However, the Skyhawks did so despite losing their OVC title game. As Southern Indiana, the OVC conference champions, are still in their transitional period to D1, they are ineligible for NCAA postseason tournaments. Notre Dame also secured the ACC championship in a close win over NC State.

Kamilla Cardoso Sinks First-Ever Three-Pointer To Save South Carolina, Sports World Goes Wild

However, Clark’s heroics and Iowa’s comeback are only the latest piece of viral basketball this weekend. South Carolina remained undefeated as senior Kamilla Cardoso hit her first career three-pointer to give the Gamecocks a 74-73 win over Tennessee in the SEC Conference Tournament semifinals. South Carolina had squandered a 13-point halftime lead and were staring down their first loss in almost a year when the Brazilian star hit her miraculous buzzer-beater. She was immediately mobbed by her teammates, disappearing under a pile of bodies. South Carolina followed up their win by capturing yet another SEC tournament title at the expense of LSU and Angel Reese. This was despite a bench-clearing brawl with just over two minutes left in the game.

The sports world was quick to react to Cardoso’s heroics. “Oh My God!!! What a game!!! #kamillacordoso with the game winning 3 with 1.1 seconds on the clock!! Wow!! What A Shot!!! This was awesome to watch!!!” wrote NFL legend Terrell Owens. “Kamilla you shoot now!? where was this in AAU,” wrote WNBA star and Cardoso’s former AAU teammate Rhyne Howard.
