Biden Highlights Achievements, Supports Harris and Walz at Convention

In a heartfelt and energetic speech lasting 50 minutes, President Joe Biden took the stage at the Democratic National Convention to emphasize his administration’s accomplishments and offer robust support for Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz.

With the crowd’s warm reception, Biden used the opportunity to reflect on his tenure, proudly sharing credit with Harris, whom he described as a “close friend” and hailed as the best decision of his career. Despite the late hour, Biden’s enthusiasm was palpable as he vowed to be the “best volunteer” for Harris and Walz in their campaign.

The speech transitioned into a moment of unity as Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, joined Biden and First Lady Jill Biden on stage for a heartfelt embrace. Biden’s son Hunter was among the family members who joined them, underscoring the personal and political solidarity as the Democratic ticket gears up for the election.

Biden Urges Reforms for Increasingly Extreme and Unethical Supreme Court

m

The U.S. Supreme Court has become increasingly mired in ethical scandals and issued extreme decisions that overturn well-established precedent and run counter to the views and values of the majority of Americans.  A Fox News poll taken July 2024 reveals that 6 in 10 Americans now view the Supreme Court’s job performance with disapproval, and that 71% of voters are “extremely or very concerned” about the Supreme Court.  The poll also revealed that 78% of voters favor an 18-year term limit for Supreme Court justices, and 81% favor a mandatory retirement age.

Yesterday, President Biden published an Op-Ed in the Washington Post setting forth his plan for Supreme Court reform.  Biden criticized the Supreme Court’s decision that granted presidents broad immunity for crimes they commit in office, writing that “there are virtually no limits on what a president can do” and that “the only limits will be those that are self-imposed.” He called out the Supreme Court’s issuance of “dangerous and extreme decisions that overturn settled legal precedent – including Roe v. Wade,” and he referenced ethical scandals involving several justices that “have caused the public to question the court’s fairness and independence.”

Biden proposed three reforms, centered around the belief that “This nation was founded on a simple yet profound principle: No one is above the law. Not the President of the United States.  Not a Justice on the Supreme Court.  No one.”

Biden’s first reform seeks a constitutional amendment called The No One is Above the Law Amendment which would clarify that there is no immunity for crimes a former president committed in office, consistent with the “Founder’s belief that the president’s power is not limited, not absolute.”  The Fox Poll found that a 56% majority of voters disapproved of the Supreme Court’s immunity decision, including 82% of democrats and 68% of independents.

Biden’s second reform seeks to set term limits for Supreme Court justices.  He points to the fact that the United States is the only major constitutional democracy to give lifetime seats to its high court, and proposes that the president should appoint a new justice every two years to spend 18 years of service on the Supreme Court.

Biden’s third reform seeks to implement a binding code of conduct for the Supreme Court.  “Justices should be required to disclose gifts, refrain from public political activity and recuse themselves from cases in which they or their spouses have financial or other conflicts of interest.”  While every other federal judge is bound by an enforceable ethics code, the Supreme Court currently has a voluntary ethics code that is “weak and self-enforced,” and almost never actually enforced.   As a result, Justices are freee to engage in whatever unethical behavior they desire, without consequences.

Although a majority of Americans support these reforms, it is unlikely they will be implemented in the near future.  GOP House speaker Mike Johnson has declared they would be “dead on arrival” in the Republican-controlled House.  Additionally, two of these reforms require constitutional amendments, which must be ratified by 38 states.  However, it is critical that Biden, who refrained from urging reform for a long time, has now made it into a major political issue headed into the November election, and going forward.  Biden’s call for reform is clearly in tune with the views of the voters in this country, even if it will be obstructed by certain members of the pollical class seeking to preserve the unpopular status quo.

President Biden on His Son’s Conviction: ‘I Will Accept the Outcome of the Case and Respect the Judicial Process’

biden buffalo

Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, has been found guilty on all three federal felony gun charges he faced. Biden violated laws to prevent drug addicts from purchasing firearms.

President Biden has issued a statement on the conviction:

“As I said last week. I am the President, but I am also a Dad. Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today. So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery. I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal. Jill & I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with our love and support. Nothing will ever change that.”

According to CNN, this is the first time a president’s family member has been found guilty of a crime during the father’s term in office. Hunter Biden is now facing up to 25 years in prison and a fine of $750,000. He is a first-time offender and is expected to receive less than the maximum.

A panel of 12 Delaware citizens found Biden guilty. The first two charges were related to buying the gun. When purchasing a gun, individuals are required to complete a form for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) affirming their legal eligibility to buy the weapon. Hunter Biden has been accused of falsifying information on these forms.

The form includes questions such as: Have you been convicted of a felony? Are you a fugitive? Are you unlawfully in the country? And crucially for this case, are you an “unlawful user of, or addicted to” illegal drugs? Hunter Biden allegedly answered “No” to this question.

Count three pertains to the possession of the firearm. Federal law prohibits possessing a gun while abusing drugs. According to the indictment and public court filings, Hunter Biden had the gun for 11 days in October 2018 before his girlfriend, concerned about his mental health, disposed of it in a dumpster.

Biden was open about his addiction following the death of his brother, Beau, revealing he started using crack in 2015.

Biden and Trump Agree to Debate in June and Sept.

After persistent pressure from Donald Trump's presidential campaign and allies, the anticipation of a face-off between the former POTUS and President Joe Biden on the debate stage is growing as the most critical election of our time looms.

President Joe Biden and Republican candidate Donald Trump have agreed to debate. The two will meet twice before the Nov. 5 Election Day.

According to TIME, CNN will host the first debate on June 29. The second will be on ABC nearly three months later, on Sept. 10.

“Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020. Since then he hasn’t shown up for a debate,” Biden said a social media message. “Now he’s acting like he wants to debate me again. Make my day pal. I’ll even do it twice.”

Biden doubled back with another message after the debate was agreed upon.

And then Trump clapped back.

Trump and Biden Edging Closer to Debate Showdown

After persistent pressure from Donald Trump's presidential campaign and allies, the anticipation of a face-off between the former POTUS and President Joe Biden on the debate stage is growing as the most critical election of our time looms.

After persistent pressure from Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and allies, the anticipation of a face-off between the former POTUS and President Joe Biden on the debate stage is growing as the most critical election of our time looms.

In a recent interview with Howard Stern, Biden expressed his willingness to debate Trump, stating, “I’m happy to debate him.” Responding via Truth Social, Trump challenged Biden’s sincerity but declared his readiness to debate “ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE.”

This exchange follows a crescendo of calls from Republicans urging the debates to proceed promptly. Asserting Trump’s eagerness to engage and the American people’s right to witness the showdown, campaign managers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita emphasized Trump’s readiness for a debate in a memo.

Former Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway, who famously coined the term “alternate facts,” underscored the importance of Vice President Kamala Harris debating Trump’s running mate sooner than later, once Trump’s VP is named.

Efforts to accelerate the debate timeline have been made, with the Trump campaign urging the Commission on Presidential Debates to schedule debates earlier. Trump’s team strategizes to pressure Biden’s camp into an early debate decision, believing it places Biden in a dilemma: face Trump on stage or explain the avoidance to the electorate.

Amidst this push, the Commission on Presidential Debates has yet to finalize candidate eligibility criteria. However, the source insists Trump is prepared to debate regardless of third-party candidates’ presence. With both camps on the brink of an epic showdown, anticipation mounts as voters await a clash of ideas on the national stage.

It’s important to note that this election cycle’s initial presidential debate will be the first time one candidate will face dozens of felony charges across several criminal cases. And to think people will still vote for a potential felon is wild, to say the least.

Biden’s State of the Union Announces Plans To Establish a Port in Gaza To Deliver Aid

16402080178177

During his State of the Union address, Biden announced steps to establish a port in Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid.

This initiative was reported by CNN and teased before the speech on Thursday by a senior administration official who said it prior to the POTUS’s biggest speech of the year.

“Tonight in the speech, the President will announce that he’s directing the US military to lead an emergency mission to establish a port in the Mediterranean on the Gaza coast that can receive large ships carrying food, water medicine, and temporary shelters,” a senior administration official said Thursday.

CNN reported the port will essentially include a temporary pier “will provide the capacity for hundreds of additional truckloads of assistance each day.” It’s interesting as the efforts will be coordinated mainly with Israel, the United Nations, and humanitarian nongovernmental organizations. The initial aid shipments will come from Cyprus.

What is not immediately apparent is when the port will be up and running. The administration said, “This new significant capability will take several weeks to plan and execute. The forces required to complete this mission are either already in the region or will begin to move there soon,” said a second official.

It’s important to note that Israel has imposed major restrictions on what aid can enter the Gaza Strip and has drained or forbade essential supplies that are desperately needed by displaced civilians in Gaza. Many are facing starvation, including children, who make up half of the population in Gaza.

US officials still believe that delivering aid via land is “the most efficient, cost-effective way to get assistance in,” Biden’s State of the Union announcement expressed the urgency of the overall situation in Gaza..

President Biden Calls for Unity Against Trump White House Return in Post-Super Tuesday Statement

Biden Pardons All Federal Offenses of Simple Marijuana Possession in First Major Steps Toward Decriminalization

Following the Super Tuesday election results, President Biden issued a statement emphasizing the critical choice facing the American people. He framed the decision as one between progress and regression, urging citizens to consider the stark contrast between moving forward or reverting to the chaos and division of the past administration.

Biden highlighted the significant advancements made during his tenure, including job creation, wage growth, and victories against powerful interests like Big Pharma and the gun lobby. However, he cautioned that these achievements could be jeopardized if Donald Trump were to return to the White House. Biden warned that the former president’s agenda threatens to undermine democracy, restrict personal freedoms, and further enrich the wealthy.

The President appealed to voters of all backgrounds, urging them to stand united against Trump’s divisive tactics and extreme policies. He called upon Americans to defend democracy, protect civil rights, and safeguard the right to vote.

You can read the full statement below:

“Tonight’s results leave the American people with a clear choice: Are we going to keep moving forward or will we allow Donald Trump to drag us backwards into the chaos, division, and darkness that defined his term in office?

Four years ago, I ran because of the existential threat Donald Trump posed to the America we all believe in. Since then, we’ve made enormous progress: 15 million jobs, wages rising faster than inflation, taking on Big Pharma and the gun lobby — and winning. But we have more to do.

If Donald Trump returns to the White House, all of this progress is at risk. He is driven by grievance and grift, focused on his own revenge and retribution, not the American people. He is determined to destroy our democracy, rip away fundamental freedoms like the ability for women to make their own health care decisions, and pass another round of billions of dollars in tax cuts for the wealthy — and he’ll do or say anything to put himself in power.

Today, millions of voters across the country made their voices heard — showing that they are ready to fight back against Donald Trump’s extreme plan to take us backwards.

My message to the country is this: Every generation of Americans will face a moment when it has to defend democracy. Stand up for our personal freedom. Stand up for the right to vote and our civil rights. To every Democrat, Republican, and independent who believes in a free and fair America: This is our moment. This is our fight. Together, we will win.”

President Biden Announces New Plan to Reduce Homelessness by 25% by 2025

16402080178177

President Joe Biden has announced a new plan to lower the homelessness numbers by 25%. The achievement is aimed to be reached by 2025.

The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development notes about 582,000 people were counted as homeless. That number does not include citizens living with loved ones by necessity. The number is the same as the count before the COVID-19 pandemic.

“My plan offers a roadmap for not only getting people into housing but also ensuring that they have access to the support, services, and income that allow them to thrive,” Biden said.

According to NBC News, the 2022 All-In plan harkens to the Opening Doors effort of 2010, which was the first comprehensive effort to tackle homelessness.

The plan highlights racial and other disparities that have impacted homelessness while sharing ways to improve homeless prevention and provide affordable housing.

The full plan is available here.

[WATCH] Biden Declares ‘Pandemic Is Over’ Despite Daily Death Toll

biden

President Biden says coronavirus is still a problem but circumstances are changing and ‘everybody seems to be in pretty good shape’.

Joe Biden has said “the pandemic is over” in an interview broadcast on Sunday, though he admitted “we still have a problem with Covid”, as the US continues to grapple with coronavirus infections that kill hundreds of Americans a day.

The president told CBS’s 60 Minutes: “We still have a problem with Covid. We’re still doing a lotta work on it. But the pandemic is over. If you notice, no one’s wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And so I think it’s changing.”

Last week the World Health Organization declared the end of the pandemic was “in sight”, after revealing that weekly deaths were at the lowest level since March 2020.
