SOURCE SPORTS: JAY-Z Watches Courtside as the Atlanta Hawks Beat the Charlotte Hornets in NBA Play-In Game
To say Jay-Z has an interest in sports would be an understatement. His Roc Nation Sports represents a ton of new talent in all sports. And in the battle between the Atlanta Hawks and Charlotte Hornets, Jay-Z had two clients playing, both on the Hornets; LaMelo Ball and P.J Washington.
Like last night at the Nets game, Jay-Z sat court-side to watch the game. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a good one for the Roc Nation clients. The Hawks blew out the Hornets 132-103 in State Farm Arena.
Trae Young scored 24 points, dished out 11 assists, and spoke about playing in front of superstars like Jay.
Hov’s clients stuffed the stat sheet despite a losing effort from the Charlotte Hornets. La’Melo Ball finished with 26 points and eight assists. Meanwhile, P.J. Washington finished with 17 points and six rebounds.
The Hawks have advanced and will play the Cleveland Cavilers on Friday night for the 8th and final spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. For the Hornets and Hov’s clients, the season is over.

Chloe Bailey And Gunna Were Spotted At A Recent NBA Game And Fans Are Disgusted By Her Beverage Choice
One of the more amusing/annoying things about Twitter is the preponderance of food opinions and the rigor with which users debate such weighty and controversial topics as pineapple on pizza, whether hot dogs are sandwiches, and drumettes vs. flats. It generally tips further into annoying, though, when folks get snooty about things like bottled water brands as indicators of wealth (it’s a whole thing; you can read about it here). Unfortunately, it seems no one is immune from the judgment of the Twitter peanut gallery — not even young artists as universally beloved as Chloe Bailey.
The 23-year-old singer recently attended the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks vs. Dallas Mavericks game, drawing attention for two major reasons. One was her immediate neighbor on the courtside seats: Atlanta rapper Gunna, whose reaction to Chloe’s recent VMA’s performance of her debut solo single “Have Mercy” went viral. And the other was her choice of beverage — a bottle of water. As photos of the couple(?) began circulating on Twitter, the water began drawing even more attention, mainly due to the name on the label: Dasani, which according to some Twitter users is an inferior brand (the ingredients are H2O, people, it shouldn’t be this serious).
Yo wtffffff…….she drink dasani?? https://t.co/ncP2xFoyuI
— Yung’n (@ROTRDAE) October 22, 2021
Gunna and Dasani? Let’s shut this whole thing down now. https://t.co/r3QQGCyrrg

— ZelDaBarb (@SKRTOnZel) October 22, 2021
Not enough thirst in the world to resort to Dasani
— Nothing IsReal (@BellaInverno) October 22, 2021
my favorite part is everyone trippin over the Dasani https://t.co/VP5sAbwjF8
— Tarah (@Tathecatholic) October 22, 2021
Meanwhile, as some more astute folks observed, the brand of water being served is controlled by the venue, not the guest, and they were rightly amused at the water snobbery on display.
people who’ve never left the house are mad she has a Dasani in an arena where only Dasani is served https://t.co/Vl3GBJPPNf
— steelers 3-3 (@dorindasliver) October 22, 2021
I guess it just goes to show that you can’t do anything right as far as social media is concerned. Also, y’all need to drink more water, I promise it’s better for you than whatever sweet drinks you’re guzzling — no matter what brand it is.
Big Boi, Like All Of Us, Was Captivated By The ‘Malice At The Palace’ Documentary
LOS ANGELES – Just like the Hawks or the Falcons, Big Boi is a staple of Atlanta. The Outkast member, aka Daddy Fat Sax, aka Sir Lucious Left Foot, aka Billy Ocean, is often spotted wearing local sports gear, in attendance at big games, and reps the city proudly. Without Atlanta there is no Big Boi, but without Big Boi, there really is no Atlanta, at least not the Atlanta we’ve come to know and love.
So it’s no surprise he continues to be around in big sports moments. That led him to Exposition Park on Tuesday, just outside the Coliseum, as he and Sleepy Brown performed the MLS All-Star Concert presented by Heineken following the Skills Challenge. Sporting an Atlanta United hat and an All-Star jersey, Big Boi took a masked and raucous crowd through a medley of hits from his Outkast days and his solo career.
Big Boi and Sleepy Brown took a couple minutes to run through Dime’s “Seven Questions Or Less” series, as they showed love for Michael Jordan, pondered their favorite NBA villains, and more.
1. What is your favorite basketball memory?
Sleepy Brown: Favorite basketball memory? Shiiiit. Jordan.
Big Boi: Dominique Wilkins. Spud Webb in the Dunk Contest. Malice At The Palace. I just watched that on Netflix, when they were knocking motherfuckers out. How about that?
2. Favorite player growing up and why?
Sleepy Brown: Michael Jordan.
Big Boi: Michael Jordan.
Sleepy Brown: Period.
3. Most memorable game y’all have been to?
Big Boi: When we performed at the All-Star Game.
Sleepy Brown: Yes. That was amazing. With Kobe, and everything.
Big Boi: “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” was out. So, ’04. We killed that bitch.
4. What do you think about the Hawks heading into this season?
Sleepy Brown: The Hawks showed their ass last season. Very proud of them. I’m so excited for next season.
Big Boi: I’m glad they paid that money to our boy to stay. We’re building. We’ve got some good rookies coming in, so we’re looking good. Yessir.
5. Who was your villain growing up?
Big Boi: Shit, goddamned Dennis Rodman.
Sleepy Brown: But I used to like Dennis Rodman too.
Big Boi: Yeah, I don’t know if he’s “bad.” Isaiah Thomas though … Yeah, yeah.
6. Most surreal moment that you’ve had, either meeting a player or around a player?
Sleepy Brown: That All-Star Game, we was in the tunnel, and next thing you know everybody came out, Kobe, AI, it was everybody. We were standing there like ….
Big Boi: What about smoking cigars in Japan with Michael Jordan in the skybox?
Sleepy Brown: Oh yeahhhhhhh.
Big Boi: That was the coolest shit ever.
Kevin Huerter Disgusts Hawks Fans By Picking Rich The Kid Over Outkast
Fans of the Atlanta Hawks turned on one of their own players on Saturday night … well, kind of. As is oftentimes the case in NBA arenas, the Hawks tried to pass some time in between timeouts by running little segments involving players. One appeared to have some sort of bracket element with Atlanta-based rappers, and Kevin Huerter, bless his heart, earned himself a whole lot of boos.
Huerter was asked to choose between Rich the Kid and Outkast. Now, you and I know that regardless of your thoughts on Rich the Kid, you should say Outkast every single time when asked this question, especially if you are doing this in a large venue in Atlanta.
And yet Huerter decided to give his honest answer, and thanks to a video from Taylor Rooks, we learned that the crowd at State Farm Arena showered him with boos.
The crowd was never more united in disagreement than in this Kevin Huerter moment pic.twitter.com/nuNX7JBPXp
— Taylor Rooks (@TaylorRooks) July 4, 2021
The video is great because you can hear the crowd react to “RICH THE KID OR OUTKAST” by making a noise as if to say, “Oh, this one is obvious.” Huerter then zags where everyone expects him to zig, which gets the crowd all riled up. We can’t totally make out what is said on the video, but whatever it is, Huerter chuckles at it. Anyway, Kevin, if you read this during halftime, know you’re gonna need to score like 40 in a win to make up for this.

Quavo Absolutely Loved The Atlanta Hawks’ Success In Their Game Against The Philadelphia 76ers
A lot of NBA teams have their very own high profile fans, sitting courtside, passionately supporting their team. The New York Knicks have Spike Lee. The Dallas Mavericks have Mark Cuban. (He, of course, is also the team’s owner, but his in-game support is uniquely fervent.) And the Atlanta Hawks have Quavo, who showed off his zealotry during their Sunday playoff game with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Migos rapper attended the game, which took place in Philadelphia, not in his hometown of Atlanta. The final score was 128-124 in favor of the Hawks, but there was one point in the game where the Hawks led by a whopping 22 points. In-game clips show Quavo absolutely loving his team’s success, breaking out raise-the-roof gestures and a pair of three-point celebrations. Fans of the rapper watching the game at home took note of his antics on Twitter.

— Hawks Fam (@ATLMembersOnly) June 6, 2021
“Quavo in philly cheering for the hawks with this 26 point lead!!!” one person wrote, accompanied by a Spongebob meme. Another asked, “Is Quavo our Spike Lee?”
Quavo’s courtside celebrations come less than a week before he and his Migos counterparts are set to release their fourth album, Culture III.
