Apple Music Reveals Top 10 Albums On 100 Best List: A Breakdown

Over the past few days, Apple Music unveiled its definitive ranking of the best 100 albums of all time. From groundbreaking debuts to timeless classics, the ranking reflects the diverse sonic landscape that has captivated listeners over the years. As the digital age continues to shape the way we experience music, these albums stand out as cultural touchstones that capture the essence of their respective eras.

While all 100 albums on this list are musical triumphs, Apple Music has been under fire for their selections, especially as the R&B genre was greatly excluded. Moreover, the rankings have also fueled claims of Apple Music pandering to fanbases, instead of respecting art. More importantly, a good number of listeners have criticized the list for “robbing” deserving artists and projects. Nonetheless, here’s a look at the top 10 albums on Apple Music’s top 100 Albums list.

10. Lemonade (2016) – Beyoncé

When Beyoncé released her triumphant sixth studio album in 2016, listeners immediately recognized that it was a seminal work. Since its release, Lemonade has been repeatedly recognized as one of the most important albums of this generation. Without a doubt, it is also among the most important albums in Beyoncé’s entire discography that details anger and forgiveness. It is no surprise that this album made it this high on Apple Music’s Best 100 Albums list.

9. Nevermind (1991) – Nirvana

With its raw, unapologetic energy, and the late Kurt Cobain’s deeply emotive songwriting, Nevermind catapulted grunge into the mainstream. Since its release in the early ‘90s, the album has been regarded as a monumental addition to the musical landscape. When Apple Music first began unveiling the best 100 albums, fans knew Nevermind would make the list. It was only a matter of when it would show up, and certainly, fans would have been displeased with anything below the top 10.

8. Back To Black (2006) – Amy Winehouse

Although it’s been over a decade since Amy Winehouse sadly passed away, she lives on through her music. Back To Black is a monumental album, and will continue to be discussed for years to come. The soul-stirring masterpiece redefined contemporary music with its deeply personal lyrics and retro sound. With records like its title track, and the Grammy Award-winning “Rehab,” it’s no wonder this album has the reputation it does. It certainly earned its place on the Apple Music Best 100 Albums list.

7. good kid, m.A.A.d city (2012) – Kendrick Lamar

Since he released his debut album in 2011, Kendrick Lamar has constantly evolved with each new release. Each project in his discography stands out in its own way, and they are all strong entries. However, good kid, m.A.A.d city, his sophomore studio album, is arguably the rapper’s most impressive project yet. When it dropped in 2012, it shifted the Hip-Hop industry, and Lamar himself. Since then, he has firmly situated himself in the annals of Hip Hop industry. The rapper is now regarded as one of the best MCs of all time, and with an album such as this, rightly so.

6. Songs In The Key Of Life (1976) – Stevie Wonder

Another monumental achievement in music, this phenomenal double album was released on September 26, 1976. Stevie Wonder is a musical genius, and this body of work effectively captures the essence of that genius. It blends R&B, soul, jazz, funk, and pop with intricate melodies and innovative arrangements. Tracks like “Sir Duke,” “I Wish,” and “Isn’t She Lovely” are a few standout classics that showcase Wonder’s unparalleled talent. Over the years, this album has remained widely respected and beloved. It is an evergreen project, so it makes sense for it to rank so highly on the Apple Music Best 100 Albums list, although many believe it should be higher.

5. Blonde (2016) – Frank Ocean

Nobody knows if Frank Ocean foresaw how groundbreaking this album would become before he dropped it. On Blonde, the singer seems to do everything right, in his own authentic way. This album redefined the boundaries of contemporary music, with its innovative soundscapes and introspective lyrics. As a result, it is widely celebrated for its ethereal production and genre-blending style. Ocean’s emotive and nuanced vocal delivery makes each track an experience for the listener. He is incredibly vulnerable as he invites us into his world and takes us on a peculiar sonic journey. Blonde is the highest-ranked album from the 21st century on the Apple Music Best 100 Albums list, which has garnered criticism.

4. Purple Rain (1984) – Prince & The Revolution

This iconic album stands as a testament to Prince’s extraordinary talent and visionary artistry. Released in 1984, Purple Rain blends rock, pop, R&B, and funk, creating a unique and electrifying sound that captivated audiences worldwide. Four decades after its release, the eclectic album continues to awe listeners old and new. The title track, in particular, with its soaring guitar solos and emotional depth, has become an unforgettable anthem. Purple Rain remains a timeless classic, and that will not change anytime soon.

3. Abbey Road (1969) – The Beatles

Another undisputed classic, The Beatles’ Abbey Road is the oldest album on the top 10 of the Apple Music Best 100 Albums list. Released in 1969, this album features some of the group’s most beloved and enduring tracks, including “Come Together” and “Here Comes The Sun.” Without a doubt, The Beatles have had a profound impact on the music world. Abbey Road is one of the most influential bodies of work in their extensive catalog. Fans and critics alike expected the band to make an appearance somewhere on top of this list. Being recognized as the third-best album of all time certainly isn’t bad at all.

2. Thriller – Michael Jackson

When Apple Music first revealed that it would be ranking the best 100 albums of all time, music fans knew Thriller would make an appearance. As a matter of fact, many believed the pioneering album would top the list. However, it missed the top spot by a mark, and sits pretty at number two. This unparalleled masterpiece of an album redefined the landscape of pop music and solidified Jackson’s status as the King of Pop. Hit singles like “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” and the title track, set new standards for music videos and pop culture. Thriller’s place on this list is undebatable.

1. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998) – Lauryn Hill

As far as classic albums go, The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill is as evergreen as it gets. This extraordinary album transcends the boundaries of Hip Hop and R&B. Currently Ms. Hill’s sole album, it is widely regarded as one of the greatest solo debut albums of all time. It showcases the artist’s extensive talent as a singer, rapper, and songwriter. The record-breaking album has achieved universal acclaim, and rightly so. It continues to inspire and empower audiences, serving as a testament to Hill’s undying legacy as a trailblazing icon.

Lil Wayne Teases New Music As Fans Call Out Apple Music’s Top 100 Albums Snub

Today, Apple Music unveiled the top 10 entries of their list of the best albums of all time, and as expected, it’s resulted in a great deal of debate. Social media users are out in full force arguing about what they believe should have made the cut and calling out the streaming giant for any apparent snubs. Lil Wayne fans have been particularly vocal, sounding off on Twitter/X about his exclusion. Many think that Tha Carter III should have been somewhere on the list, though Weezy was left off of it entirely.

Fortunately, it doesn’t appear as though the rapper has been too affected by any of this. He recently shared a hopeful message in honor of the 18th anniversary of his mixtape with DJ Drama, Dedication 2. “More history to make,” he replied to a post about the occasion.

Lil Wayne Says He Has “More History To Make”

The remark has fans eager to hear what Lil Wayne has to offer them next, though it’s unclear exactly what it could be. His Hot Boys collaborator Juvenile did just announce the group’s reunion, however, confirming that a new album featuring all original members is on the way. He didn’t provide supporters with many more details than that, though all of them have been teasing it for some time now.

Last month, B.G. shared new details of a collab they’re working on for his new album ahead of the reunion. “Weezy sent me the verse back for the album,” he explained. “I told him I wanted the mixtape Weezy. He gave me the mixtape Weezy.

Fans In Disbelief Due To Kendrick’s “GKMC” Making It On The Apple Music Best 100 Albums Over “TPAB,” Ebro Attempts To Explain Why

A lot of die-hard music fans, especially hip-hop heads, have been debating and venting their frustrations over the last couple of days. The reason for that is because of a new list that Apple Music completed earlier today. Experts and musicians collaborated to come up with the Best 100 Albums of all time were based on some rigorous criteria. However, people are taking this list as a slight on many artists behalf. One of those includes Kendrick Lamar, who wound up getting one placement on the Apple Music rankings. His 2012 record good kid M.A.A.D. city (Deluxe) went on to land in the seventh spot.

While you certainly cannot argue the impact and greatness of this record, fans felt that another album of his was severely snubbed. His 2015 To Pimp A Butterfly, did not only not score a higher ranking, but it did also not even make the final cut. That may be the bigger argument here, as fans online are making the claim that both of the albums should have been on the list. It is a fair point to make, especially since several artists got the luxury of receiving multiple spots like Beyonce, for example.

Fans Are Not Buying Ebro’s Explanation For Kendrick’s GKMC Over TPAB

Ebro, one of the main contributors to these rankings, has already had to explain himself. Not too long ago, he hopped on X to break down the criteria they used to make each selection. Now, the famed figure in hip-hop is attempting to calm the angry mob over the Kendrick picks. In a recent sit down to talk about the final 10 albums, Ebro led the charge as to what the reasoning was for GKMC over TPAB. To sum things up, he said that because of the album’s divisiveness at the time of release, as well as its dense and detailed listening experience, they felt it was not as universally adored as much. You can check out the clip in full with the link above.

What are your thoughts on the explanation as to why To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar did not make the Apple Music Best 100 Albums? Was Ebro’s perspective acceptable, or do you think both should have made the list? What do you think of the list overall? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Ebro Darden Defends Lauryn Hill Earning No. 1 Spot On Apple Music’s Viral Best Albums List

Ebro Darden is happy with The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill taking the top spot on Apple Music’s viral list of the 100 best albums in history. In a post on X, Wednesday, he argued that no album has been as “lyrical” and “conscious” while having “reached as far” as the iconic 1998 did.

He wrote: “You may not think Miseducation of Lauryn Hill should have been #1 … But you have never heard a better lyrical AND conscious HipHop & RnB display that reached as far as this album did. NOTHING.” He then retweeted a fan who agreed with him. “I was 8 years old when that album dropped,” they wrote. “I remember very vividly that being the first time music had ever given me an emotional experience. Happy, sad, thoughtful, love. I have no problem with it being # 1.”

Apple Music has slowly been releasing it’s list of the 100 best albums in recent days. Scott Plagenhoef, Apple Music’s global head of music programming, explained the goals of the project to USA TODAY. He said: “Unlike other lists we wanted it to reflect albums that really had an impact on the music artists are making today and that these be hand-selected by the most passionate people on Earth.” Expectedly, the choices have resulted in plenty of debate on social media. Other inclusions in the top 10 include albums from Kendrick Lamar, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and more.

Frank Ocean’s “Blonde” Scores No. 5 Spot On Apple Music’s Top 100 Albums Of All-Time List, Sparking A Debate

Today, Apple Music finally unveiled its eagerly anticipated top 10 entries for its list of the top albums of all time. Ranking in first place is Lauryn Hills’s iconic 1998 offering, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Michael Jackson’s Thriller came in second place, followed by The Beatles’ Abbey Road, and Prince and the Revolution’s Purple Rain.

For the most part, fans agree that those are pretty solid picks, though many would tweak the order they’re placed in. The music streaming giant put Frank Ocean’s Blonde in fifth place, however, which has sparked a serious discussion among social media users. The 2016 offering is undoubtedly a work of art, though it’s up for debate whether or not it beats the likes of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Usher, and more.

Frank Ocean’s Placement On Apple Music’s List Leaves Social Media Users Split

While some Twitter/X users think Frank Ocean himself belongs a bit further down the list, others argue that his 2012 debut Channel Orange would have been a better entry. Of course, plenty of fans also see no issue with the ranking at all, and don’t understand why people are so upset. Apple Music 1 global creative director and lead anchor Zane Lowe, said that in his opinion, Blonde deserves a spot even higher up on the list.

“I had this higher than five, I simply adore this album. I feel like Frank is like Prince. He is like Michael, he is like Lauryn, he is like Marvin (Gaye), he is like Radiohead. He is the great outliers who found a way into our hearts on a massive scale,” Lowe said.

Jermaine Dupri Claims Apple Music’s Top 100 Albums List Disrespected R&B

In the past week, fans have been obsessively following Apple Music’s new Top 100 Albums List. The streaming service had many in the music world vote on some of the most significant and substantial albums of all time. As Ebro reported earlier this week, voters were asked not just to pick their favorite albums, but some of the most significant of all time. Now the full list is out and fans are reacting to what the list says in its entirety. Jermaine Dupri took to Twitter to share his perspective on the list.

“Looking at this @AppleMusic top 100 albums list is sad, the disrespect to R&B is CRAZY!!!!! It’s giving not worthy” Dupri observed in a tweet overnight. R&B certainly isn’t completely absent from the list with artists like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Frank Ocean, and Prince landing in the top 20. Elsewhere Rihanna, Sade, SZA, D’Angelo, Solange, and Usher appear on the list, though much further down. In the replies, fans think that Usher’s Confessions in particular deserved to be much higher up the list. While SZA herself came out claiming that SOS is a bit too low. Check out Dupri’s tweet and the discussion it spawned among fans in the replies below.

Jermaine Dupri Calls Out Apple’s Top 100 Albums List For Disrespecting R&B

The final 10 albums on Apple’s countdown were revealed earlier today sparking a variety of reactions and including a few surprises. Many expected Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly to make the cut, but it didn’t. Instead the album’s predecessor Good Kid m.A.A.d City landed at the number 7 spot. While almost everyone expected to see The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill in the top 10, it surprised everyone by taking the very top spot in the entire list.

What do you think of Jermaine Dupri’s claim that R&B music is disrespected in the Apple Music Top 100 Albums List? Do you think particular albums from the genre deserved to be higher on the list than they are? Let us know in the comment section below.

Apple Music’s Top 10 Albums Of All Time Had Fans Astonished — And, In Some Cases, Appalled

frank ocean

Apple Music has finished publishing its “100 Best Albums Of All Time” list and in the words of Bonnie Raitt, it certainly gave fans something to talk about. In particular, much of the surprise, anger, disgust, and smugness stems from the top 10, which was published today. Many fans were shocked to learn that The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill had placed higher than Michael Jackson’s Thriller, that Frank Ocean’s second album made the top ten when his first did not, and that albums by fan-favorite icons such as Mariah Carey did not make the list at all.

First off, here are the top ten albums of all time, according to Apple Music:

10. Beyoncé — Lemonade
09. Nirvana — Nevermind
08. Amy Winehouse — Back To Black
07. Kendrick Lamar — Good Kid, M.A.A.D City
06. Stevie Wonder — Songs In The Key Of Life
05. Frank Ocean — Blonde
04. Prince & The Revolution — Purple Rain
03. The Beatles — Abbey Road
02. Michael Jackson — Thriller
01. Lauryn Hill — The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill

Over on Twitter (I tried the “X” thing, y’all, it doesn’t work for me), fans are making their opinions known. From arguing that there is no way Blonde is better than Songs In The Key Of Life to wondering where J. Cole was on the overall 100. Still others questioned the veracity of the entire endeavor. Check out some of the responses to Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums Of All Time top ten below and view the whole list here.

How Did Apple Music Make Their Top 100 Albums Of All Time List?

Music ranking lists always prove controversial, and Apple Music‘s Top 100 Albums Of All Time list is no exception. Over the course of the past two weeks, the music streaming platform had taken to the streamer and to its social handles to reveal their picks for best albums of all time, day-by-day.

While the criteria on which the rankings were placed has been kept relatively quiet, those who made the selections were evidently given specific instructions.

How did Apple Music make their Top 100 Albums Of All Time list?

The Apple Music Top 100 Albums Of All Time List was curated by Apple Music’s internal team. Though it’s not clear who, specifically, made these rankings, nor the number of people who put the list together, the team was given a strict set of guidelines. According to Ebro Darden, who is the Global Editorial Head of Hip-Hop and R&B for Apple Music, members of the Apple Music team made their picks based on:

* Albums that represented a cultural moment for the artist or genre.

* Albums that were complete thoughts, not just collections of hit songs.

* Albums that thoroughly represent culture in production and lyrics.

* Albums that inspired a generation to want to create more music.

* Albums that represent the BEST in storytelling, musicianship, recording and production.

* Albums that are timeless and reached far beyond the genre categorization.

The final picks, including Apple Music’s ranking for the best album of all time. You can see the full list here.
