Snoop Dogg Claims To “Love The Hate And The Love” For His “Missionary” Album Amid Mixed Reception

Just over a week ago, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre rekindled their chemistry for a full-length effort in Missionary. The project is pretty much a follow-up to 1993’s Doggystyle, one of the West Coast’s sure-fire classic hip-hop records. Overall, the hype was real for this project due to their past collaborations that still have that timeless feel. Additionally, a lot of the other “old head” MCs had been releasing some solid comeback albums. So, with that in mind, why couldn’t Snoop and Dre do the same? Well, in the eyes of the fans, they did right with Missionary.

However, from a critic’s perspective, the same cannot entirely be said. If you scour the internet for reviews, a majority of them are generally mixed on the final product. Current sales projections are pretty reflective of the “experts’” opinions as its looking like it will move around 36,000 equivalent album units. It’s still good enough for a Billboard Hot 200 entry, but nowhere near where it possibly should’ve wound up. Despite all of this though, Snoop Dogg seems to be pretty unbothered.

According to HipHopDX, Unc recently posted a short rebuttal on his Instagram to both the loyal supporters of his and the harsher pundits. “First of all, thank y’all for the support for Missionary. Long time coming. Love the reception but let me say this. I’ve been watching podcasts and people doing reviews – a couple of them specifically where they started off saying, ‘I wasn’t into this album, I don’t like Snoop Dogg, I wasn’t anticipating this, I don’t care…’ Really just listening just to listen. Started off hating,” he began.

“Get to song three/four, demeanor change a little bit. By the time they get to song eight/nine/10, they love Snoop Dogg, loving the production, loving the growth. By the time they get to the end, they’re in tears because they’re emotional behind the body of work that me and Dr. Dre put together trying to show how to make a body of work, a project, well received. I love the hate and the love. That’s why we do it. We do it because we love what we do. Thank y’all!” However, he didn’t wrap up with that. Snoop then made sure to let everyone know that there’s a “thin line between love and hate,” and that “ya kids and ya mama love me.” Final sales numbers will arrive early next week.

Erykah Badu Changes Her Tune On Beyonce’s “COWBOY CARTER”: “GET EM”

Erykah Badu has not been mincing her words about Beyonce and her new album COWBOY CARTER. Up until the release of the semi-country project today, the legendary soul singer has not been all that impressed. The Dallas, Texas native has felt some type of way about Bey’s cover art, specifically the deluxe edition. There is certainly some inspiration from the artist’s iconic beaded bangs look and “everybody[‘s] stylist” was quick to point it out. Erykah Badu reposted the COWBOY CARTER artwork on her Instagram story with the blunt caption, “Hmmm.”

However, the Mama’s Gun creator has been feeling a little guilty lately. She went on an Instagram Live session to talk about her recent behavior and how her astrological sign could have something to do with it. “Stomach feels bloated. The moon got me feeling guilty, stressed all out. I don’t know why. But I’m up and I’m going. Past few days I’ve been feeling kinda not on my best behavior, kinda like low vibrational a little bit.”

That happened about four days ago and it seems Badu has come to put her differences aside and give COWBOY CARTER and Beyonce their due praise. She reposted a graphic on her IG story earlier today that talked about the records that Bey was breaking. Some of those include her biggest album debut on Amazon Music and the most streams for a country album by a female artist. Badu has seemingly hopping on the hype train, saying, “GET EM.”

What are your thoughts on Erykah Badu switching up her tone about Beyonce’s new album COWBOY CARTER? How are you feeling about the album so far? Do you think it is deserving of all the praise it is receiving, why or why not? What songs are you gravitating toward right now? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Andre 3000’s “New Blue Sun”: OutKast Icon Shares Big Boi’s Reaction, Talks Making More Rap Music

Andre 3000 and Big Boi paved the way for many of today’s hip-hop superstars thanks to their tireless work together in OutKast. Of course, recent years have seen the pair turn their energy toward solo projects, though they remain supportive of each other in all that they do. During a new interview with High Snobiety, 3 Stacks revealed what his partner in rhyme thought of last year’s New Blue Sun flute album, along with some other interesting music updates.

“He was smiling. He was like, ‘Man… I played it for a lot of buddies, even my son. They were like, ‘It’s the real thing. It’s not a mimic.’ You really did this,’” Andre told the outlet of Big Boi. Elsewhere, the prolific creative played his work for other pals like Tyler, The Creator and Frank Ocean. “We’re all sitting there listening to it. I’m wondering what the young people’s opinions would be. And I’m so happy that what I’m hearing is really good feedback.”

Andre 3000 Chats with High Snobiety About His Flute Album and Future Music

When asked about the possibility of returning to writing rhymes, 3000 sounded hopeful. “I would love to make a rap album. I just think it’d be an awesome challenge to do a fire-a** album at 48 years old,” he noted. “That’s probably one of the hardest things to do! I would love to do that. That’s the cool thing about my whole ride; it really is a ride.”

Andre 3000 knew that not everyone who loves the rest of his discography would understand his vision for New Blue Sun. Still, the response has been positive enough for the OutKast member to take his instrumental LP out on tour over the past few weeks, and perform some of his songs on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert back in January. Read all about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

French Montana Defends 126-Track “Mac & Cheese 5”

French Montana has called his decision to release 126 songs on Mac & Cheese 5 “simple science”. The Moccorran-born rapper likened the decision to release a clean, explicit, sped up, slowed down, instrumental, and acapella version of each of the 21 tracks on the album to the re-releases of Taylor Swift. He also pointed to the success that JT of The City Girls had by releasing multiple versions of “Sideways”.

However, fans are not feeling the move. Many called Montana “desperate for streams”, with one fan saying that the album felt like a “cry for help”. How do you feel about the move? Let us know in the comments.

French Montana Announces Help For Undocumented Immigrants

Elsewhere, Montana announced he was teaming up with an immigration charity. Montana’s announcement came in a video. “When I was 13, my family immigrated to the United States in search of a better life. Like millions of others that dreamt of opportunities, freedom and a chance to make our mark. But I remember being 17 and finding out I was undocumented. My family now had to learn to navigate the immigration system on our own. And this happened when I had the dream of going to college and playing ball. I didn’t have a social security number. I didn’t qualify to get a scholarship. Jump forward to now, and I know that I’m lucky for how my story turned out. I made it. Alhamdulillah,” the rapper says in a voiceover.

Furthermore, the video goes on to explain that InformedImmigrant provides “legal services, mental health,” and “help find partnering organizations for undocumented immigrants.” It’s unclear what Montana’s involvement with the organization will be. However, it’s inspiring to see the rapper offer a hand to those in the same situation as he once was.
