Jeezy Opens Up On Being Molestated As A Child

Jeezy has revealed that he was a victim of childhood molestation. Speaking with Nia Long for an interview following the release of his new album, I Might Forgive… But I Don’t Forget, Jeezy reflected on various moments of trauma from his childhood, as well as other topics.

“I was introduced to sex at very young age,” Jeezy admits during the discussion. Long asks if he means, “molested?” to which he nods in agreement, “basically.” At another point, he recalls watching a neighbor shoot his wife when he was just 8 years old. “I remember it like it was yesterday. They got into an argument,” he said, noting that he hid under a sink as the man fired four shots. “Before I was 8, I had already accepted that this is the norm. I was already desensitized. I was already thinking this is what life is.”

It’s not the first time Jeezy has opened up about his tough upbringing. Speaking with PEOPLE following the release of his recent memoir, Adversity For Sale, Jeezy recalled having suicidal thoughts at one point as a teenager. “So it was all this stuff in my head. I just remember standing there and it was for a brief moment, I would say at least about 10 minutes, I actually contemplated jumping in the water,” he said. “I had never had suicidal thoughts, but I [thought], ‘Well, shit, if I just jump in the water, I ain’t gotta deal with this, I ain’t gotta go back home, I gotta do none of these things.’”

Jeezy Reveals What Earns Him The Most Income

Jeezy says that, despite his prolific rap career, most of his income stems from his various business ventures. He discussed his financial portfolio during a recent interview with Forbes New Money on Wednesday.

“I would say my business endeavors are the most profitable,” Jeezy said on the show. “I have a Steakhouse, a spirits company, I’ve built and solid spirits, I don’t know if you know about Avión tequila. Shoutout to my partner Ken Austin. We basically built it up, sold it to Pernod Ricard, which is probably one of the biggest deals of the year on the low.”

He continued: “And then, I just acquired Naud Spirits out of Cognac, France. We have Cognac, Vodka, and Gin. Defiance fuel water, which is an athlete’s water. Major, probably Dr. Pepper or somebody gon’ pick us up. I’ma tell you what they know, cause’ I can’t tell you what they don’t know cause’ I’m still street. I can’t give it all up, but what they do know. You feel me? My uncle always told me don’t let ya right hand know what ya left hand doin.” Jeezy added that he doesn’t “do anything for just money” and “if I don’t have any equity in it, I don’t want to touch it or put my likeness to it.” Check out the interview below.

Jeezy Explains Meaning Behind “Adversity For Sale” Book Title

Jeezy recently discussed the title of his new book, Adversity For Sale, explaining that he hopes the memoir serves as inspiration for his audience to achieve their dreams. He spoke about the book during a new sit-down with Good Morning America.

“I think people always tell you about their success stories, but one thing that I’ve learned about life is that in every failure there’s a lesson,” Jeezy said. “And every time I ever failed it set me up for my next task. I think to share your failures with your community and your peers and people that love you. They’ll just start to understand that it’s never too late, and that they can always push through, because sometimes you get in situations where you think it’s the end when it’s really the beginning.”

Jeezy Recalls Having “Suicidal Thoughts” For A “Brief Moment”

Jeezy says that he went through a “brief moment” he considered suicide while attending a Youth Challenge program in Fort Stewart, Georgia. He discussed the period from his life while speaking with PEOPLE. The interview comes amid of the release of his new memoir, Adversity For Sale.

“You’re basically in the Marines or the Army and people are telling you what to do. You gotta shine your boots,” the Atlanta rapper recalled. “I don’t know about anybody else [but] I’m just not good at being told what to do. And I’m coming from a place where I’m basically a boss. But maybe a few weeks in I’m like, ‘Hold up, I’m working out.’ It taught me structure. And it took me out of the environment that I was in for me to become even more focused than I was because I thought I was focused, but I really wasn’t. I didn’t have a plan. I just was going through the motions.”

From there, Jeezy continued: I remember standing there and saying to myself: ‘Man, if you go back home and you don’t figure this out. Because I don’t want to end up like my friends.’ My friends became junkies and they were getting killed and all these things. So it was all this stuff in my head.
