Drake Honors Late Fashion Designer Virgil Abloh With Statue On “It’s All A Blur” Tour

Drake

Drake paid tribute to the late fashion designer Virgil Abloh during his “It’s All A Blur” Tour, presenting a giant statue of Abloh on stage. The gesture was a fitting homage to Abloh, who hailed from Rockford, Illinois.  Currently on his “It’s All A Blur” Tour, Drake commenced his first expedition in five years in […]

Drake Performed Next To A Young Drake Lookalike (Or A Possible Hologram) To Open His ‘It’s All A Blur Tour’ With 21 Savage

Drake and 21 Savage’s It’s All A Blur Tour kicked off last night in Chicago, bringing all of the shenanigans and fascinating imagery we’ve come to expect from the Canadian superstar. In addition to teasing his next album, ostensibly titled For All The Dogs, and showing off a statue of the late Virgil Abloh, Drake’s stage dressing included a body double representing his younger self. The pair sits on a couch as Drake “reads” from a notebook while performing his loving ode to his mom, “Look What You’ve Done.” Some are assuming it’s a hologram, but the jury’s still out.

Check out some videos of the Drake double below, along with the remaining tour dates. You can see the setlist here.

Fan Throws A Phone At Drake On-Stage At First Show Of Tour

Drake and 21 Savage’s highly anticipated “It’s All A Blur” tour kicked off last night. The first show of the massive run took place in Chicago after the original opening shows were delayed. Fans in attendance were treated to a massive setlist of hit song after hit song from both artists. Drake also upped his stage design game in the wake of massive tours from artists like Taylor Swift and Beyonce. But even then he still wasn’t immune to experiencing the hottest concert drama of 2023. As has become increasingly common, someone threw their phone on-stage while Drake was performing.

While many artists likely would have taken things personally, Drake was the consummate professional. Even as a phone hits him in the arm and bounces off stage he doesn’t miss a note. In the video of the incident circulating around social media fans can be heard discussing what just happened. But the video is as obvious as it gets. While you can’t see who threw the phone or where exactly it comes from, the video gets the perfect angle to see it hit the rapper mid-song.

Drake Hit By A Phone On Stage

The cell phone-throwing drama is fresh in a lot of people’s minds because of one incident in particular. Last month pop singer Bebe Rexha collapsed on stage after being hit in the face with a phone. She ultimately needed stitches and the photos she shared of the aftermath went viral.

The phone-throwing was a minor hiccup in what ended up being a successful start to Drake and 21 Savage’s tour. During the show, Drake once again teased his new album For All The Dogs which is expected to drop this summer. He also erected a massive statue of Virgil Abloh. He paid tribute to the Off-White and Louis Vuitton designer who passed away in 2021. It was one of many elements of stage design and visuals that caught fans’ attention during the show. What do you think of a fan throwing their phone at Drake on stage? Let us know in the comment section below.

One thing about 21 Savage, he loves R&B music. Known for singing classic ballads on Instagram, 21 Savage carried the same energy into Chicago’s United Center for the opening night of his It’s All A Blur tour with Drake.

Entering through the crowd, 21 arrived to the sounds of Fantasia’s “When I See U.”

Here’s The Inspiration Behind The Virgil Abloh Statue On Drake’s ‘It’s All A Blur Tour’

On Wednesday night, July 5, Drake and 21 Savage’s winding It’s All A Blur Tour kicks off at Chicago’s United Center. Drake reminisced on his formative Degrassi days to hype up himself and fans for opening night, and the tour’s staging is reflective in an especially sentimental way.

“Our brother is watching,” Drake wrote to his Instagram Story atop a photo of a larger-than-life statue of the late Virgil Abloh.

NFR Podcast also tweeted, “Drake & 21 Savage’s tour stage design honors the late great Virgil Abloh with a statue [dove emoji] It pays homage to Virgil’s first Louis Vuitton fashion show in 2018!”

Abloh was an artistic polymath. He died aged 41 in November 2021 after an intensely private two-years-plus battle with cancer. The Chicago-area native’s seemingly sudden passing was met with an outpouring of grief on social media from prominent figures in music, fashion, and entertainment.

In the immediate aftermath, Drake paid tribute by getting a tattoo depicting the same photo that the It’s All A Blur statue recreated.

Abloh served as the Artistic Director Of Menswear for Louis Vuitton until his death, and Pharrell Williams stepped into the vacant role earlier this year.

Drake and Savage’s It’s All A Blur Tour will return to the United Center on Thursday, July 6. They’re then set to perform back-to-back nights at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, July 8, and Sunday, July 9.

The ambitious trek is scheduled to last into October. See all of the dates here.

Drake And 21 Savage’s ‘It’s All A Blur Tour’ Merch Features Nike Hats And Several Graphic Tees

Drake and 21 Savage are opening their highly anticipated (and slightly delayed) It’s All A Blur Tour on Wednesday, July 5, at Chicago’s United Center. Earlier in the day, Drake shared a teaser trailer video that featured him reminiscing on getting high before his Degrassi audition and called back to his formative acting role again to warn, “If anyone got beef with Savage on tour this how I’m coming be warned.” Savage, meanwhile, posted some mirror selfies.

Fans began sharing footage from United Center online as show time drew nearer, including a first official look at the It’s All A Blur Tour merch and a larger-than-life statue of the late Virgil Abloh.

A nine-second, fan-captured video shows white Nike hats, black “It’s All A Blur” bucket hates, several spray-painted graphic tees, and Drake’s newly published poetry book. One black tee simply says, “Peer pressure.”

The latter hints at what Drake was talking about in his earlier teaser video on Instagram:

“Someone asked me the other night what my biggest fear is, and I’ve never really had a good answer for it, but my answer was that all this is for nothing. Kind the idea that like, one day, life ends and it just all goes black, and I guess that question, like, sent me, you know, obviously deep into a spiral of thought. And it makes me think about my life and how surreal it feels at times.

I go back to this day when I was like 13 or 14. I had an audition for a TV show that ultimately shaped my life. And before my audition, I went to this kid’s house and um, I, out of, I guess, a desire to be accepted, I would succumb to peer pressure, and I got high with these kids right before my audition. And um, I kind of wonder, like, if something bad happened that day, or you know, maybe I’m still high, maybe I’m in some coma and this is just like me playing out my ideal life, and yeah, that concept has stuck with me for a lot of years. I mean, it feels like reality, it feels tangible, but I definitely wonder sometimes.”

Drake Issued A Warning To 21 Savage’s Enemies With A ‘Degrassi’ Clip Ahead Of Their ‘It’s All A Blur Tour’

Drake may or may not have started from the “bottom” (depending on your personal definition) but he never forgot his roots. The actor-turned-rapper shared an amusing reminder of his starting point, teen soap opera Degrassi: The Next Generation, on Instagram while promoting his upcoming It’s All A Blur Tour with 21 Savage.

In the clip, Drake (as his Degrassi character Jimmy Brooks) mimes pulling a gun out of his waistband and firing it. A caption added by Drake reads, “If anyone got beef with Savage on tour this how I’m coming be warned.” HipHopDX got a screencap, which you can see below.

We know Drake’s probably joking — for the record, that character spent the next four seasons in a wheelchair after getting shot in the back by a bullied boy in episode 8 of season 4 (a source of endless amusement for Drake haters online) — but he certainly seems to be psyched for the tour. The tour has already sold so many tickets — despite supposedly sky-high presale prices — that new dates were added to the schedule twice.

Drake continued the rollout this week with a teaser trailer as things kick off tonight in Chicago. In it, he reflects on his early days as an actor — including nearly bombing his audition for the show because he got high with kids at school.

Drake Remembers Getting High Before His ‘Degrassi’ Audition In A New Teaser Video For The ‘It’s All A Blur’ Tour

Tonight (July 5) is a big one for Drake and 21 Savage fans, as the rappers are set to kick off the joint It’s All A Blur Tour in Chicago. Before they take the stage, though, Drake shared a teaser video, in which he gets deep in thought while looking back at his life, specifically a moment before his audition for Degrassi: The Next Generation as a kid.

The video is just a black screen with white text captioning his words as he says over some minimal music:

“Someone asked me the other night what my biggest fear is, and I’ve never really had a good answer for it, but my answer was that all this is for nothing. Kind the idea that like, one day, life ends and it just all goes black, and I guess that question, like, sent me, you know, obviously deep into a spiral of thought. And it makes me think about my life and how surreal it feels at times.

I mean, it feels like reality, it feels tangible, but I definitely wonder sometimes.”
