DMX ‘EXODUS’ Early Album Sales Projections Lower Than Expected

The death of DMX last month was a shock to the music industry that created a ripple effect of pain and heartbreak throughout the hip-hop world. That pain was expected to be alleviated with the arrival of his new posthumous album EXODUS, a project he was working on months before his untimely passing, but now it looks like not everyone was tuning in for the new music as expected.

EXODUS came with a lot to offer, featuring a hefty amount of features and production handled almost entirely by X’s former partner in the booth, Swizz Beatz. However, even with names like Jay-Z, Nas, Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Usher and even U2 frontman Bono attached to the project, reliable music chart source Hits Daily Double reports that EXODUS is only projected to move around 28-32k copies in its first week with about 12-14k of those being pure sales.

To put that number into better perspective, the album is expected to bow out in fourth place amongst the top-selling albums this week. EXODUS follows behind the Anniversary Edition of Goodbye & Good Riddance by fellow late emcee Juice WRLD (28-32k; 1-2k), pop queen Taylor Swift’s December 2020 album evermore (110-130k; 100-120k) and current pop princess-on-the-rise Olivia Rodrigo, who’s on top for a second week with SOUR (150-170k; 15-20k).

An explanation for the low number can be for a handful of reasons. On one hand, the album’s release date (May 28) comes only 49 days after DMX was officially pronounced dead on April 9. For some fans that feels a bit too soon, but given the fact that he was working on this project before his death doesn’t make it entirely feel like it was rushed to coincide with his passing. Still, it does make you wonder if things might have turned out differently on the sales side if they waited at least until the official start to summer 2021 to give people more time to mourn.

Swizz Beatz Discusses The Possibility Of A Second Posthumous DMX Album

DMX’s Exodus, arrived on Friday. It’s the final album the rapper completed before his death, minus some last-minute loose ends that were tied up posthumously. Swizz Beatz executive produced the album and he’s also taken charge of promoting it, including an appearance on The Breakfast Club, in which he spoke about the possibility of a second posthumous DMX album.

“He’s got a lot of music,” Swizz says around the 23:00 mark of the interview. “But, for me it’s like, he just worked so hard on this record that I don’t really want to tamper with things unless it can be better than this record. I don’t want to just put things out, and even with the footage, we recorded the whole process of the album, and we could’ve been putting that footage out right now leading up to the album.”

He added, “But I’m like, ‘let’s do something masterful with it. Let’s treat it as art and curate it to where it adds to his legacy and is not just a blip of a moment that seems like it works, but you still don’t understand the whole story.’” So this almost certainly isn’t the last you’ll hear from DMX.

Mass Shooting In Florida Leaves 2 Dead & More Than 20 Injured: Report

An unfortunate reality, the United States has been experiencing an uptick in large-scale violence ever since COVID-19 restrictions started being rolled back. We are sad to report that armed assailants opened fire on a crowd outside of a concert in Florida early Sunday (May 30), killing two individuals and leaving more than 20 people injured.

According to reports from local officers and media, three people hopped out of a white SUV and fired assault-style weapons and handguns at concertgoers congregated at the El Mula Banquet Hall near Hialeah, a city in Miami-Dade county. CNN reports 20 to 25 victims who suffered from wounds were taken to local hospitals. CBS4 adds that at least one person was in critical condition, and police add that no one was in custody as of early Sunday.

“I am at the scene of another targeted and cowardly act of gun violence, where over 20 victims were shot and 2 have sadly died,” Miami-Dade Director of Police Alfredo Ramirez penned on Twitter. “These are cold blooded murderers that shot indiscriminately into a crowd and we will seek justice.”

“We believe this is a targeted act of gun violence,” Ramirez said. “This is a despicable act of gun violence, a cowardly act.” He added, “This type of gun violence has to stop. Every weekend it is the same thing. This is targeted, this is definitely not random.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis added his own sentiments, confirming state authorities were working hard to catch the perpetrators of the senseless act. “Justice needs to be swift & severe!” he wrote on Twitter.

This is the second mass shooting in the Miami area over the Memorial Day weekend. Late Friday into Saturday, six people were wounded and one was killed in a drive-by shooting in the Wynwood area of Miami. Police do not yet have a description of the culprits.

We’ll keep you updated with developments. In the meantime, our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims.

Bladee Surprises Fans With Brand New Album “The Fool”

During the early stages of the 2010s, Yung Lean helped spark a movement with the Sad Boys wave. His drugged-out, incoherent autotuned raps were extremely popular at the time and it inspired many Swedish artists to make their own music. Yung Lean even made sure to show love to these artists, including Bladee, who has taken the baton from Lean and has run with it for the better part of four years. The Drain Gang artist is eclectic, to say the least, and his music leads to polarizing reactions. Regardless, he is immensely popular and on Friday, he decided to surprise his fanbase with a brand new album called “The Fool.”

The project consists of 13 tracks and just one feature from Drain Gang member Thaiboy Digital. This album consists of the sounds that have made Bladee so popular over the years and there is no denying that his fans are going to appreciate this one. If you’ve never listened to Bladee, give this album a listen and let us know what you think, in the comments below.

Quality Control’s Metro Marrs Plans To Throw $20k At Brother’s Graduation

Graduation season is surely an exciting time for graduates and their families. Of course, it is a bit more exciting when you’re graduating into a major label deal with one of the hottest labels in music right now. As you may recall, recent Quality Control signee Metro Marrs was escorted out of his high school graduation last week in handcuffs after making it rain $10k in cash at the ceremony.

While his fellow grads surely appreciated the gesture, school administrators and law enforcement were not as amused. He recently spoke out the incident, explaining, “I was creating a moment that would be memorable. I had to do that for the last time. Everybody was lit! We graduating high school!” The budding artist now exclusively tells TMZ he plans to pull the same stunt next year, this time with double the cash.

Marrs tells the publication he plans to make it rain $20k in cash at next year’s ceremony at Langston Hughes High School when he attends his brother’s graduation. You may ask, is he risking getting arrested once again to successfully pull off the stunt?

This time around, Marrs explains that the Atlanta high school, the same one Summer Walker, Gunna, Playboi Carti, and more attended, are completely cool with him doing it. He adds that even though he was detained by the police, it was worth it since he viewed it as giving back.

He continued to explain that the school has no hard feelings and noted he visited his principal’s office the day after graduation and they dapped him up. As we reported, he was detained by police following the money-throwing stunt at his own HS graduation last week for inciting a riot and disorderly conduct, eventually being ticketed for it.

Watch the clip of the stunt for yourself if you haven’t already seen it.

Sylvester Stallone Gives His McGregor Vs. Poirier Prediction

Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor have had a rich history as rivals and on July 10th at UFC 264, they will be settling the score, once and for all. In 2014, McGregor won the first matchup and just a few months ago, Poirier evened up the series thanks to a second-round knockout. This upcoming trilogy fight will determine who is truly the best fighter between the two, and fans can’t wait to see how it all plays out.

Recently, TMZ caught up with actor Sylvester Stallone, who certainly knows a thing or two about the fight game. When asked who he thought was going to win, Stallone offered a diplomatic answer, noting that Poirier has the advantage because his career trajectory has made him much hungrier than McGregor.

“Poirier has the big-time advantage,” Stallone said. “You got a really hungry, young guy [Poirier] and then you got a guy who’s made a lot of money but he’s also sorta hungry [McGregor].”

Stallone acknowledged that virtually anything can happen in the fight and that at the end of the day, it will probably come down to whoever gets the first good punch. However, if the last fight is any indication, then it’s clear that Poirier should be coming into the bout with the edge.

Give us your predictions for the fight, in the comments below.

Sneakerheads Caught Doing Push-Ups For Yeezys In Boston

Yesterday, two new colorways of the Adidas Yeezy Foam Runner were released to the masses. The “Mineral Blue” and “Sand” colorways were heavily hyped by fans and considering the aura around the Foam Runner, it should come as no surprise that there were numerous sneakerheads looking to get their hands on some pairs. There were various sneaker boutiques carrying the shoe, and Concepts in Boston was one of them.

Unfortunately, the boutique is now being accused of some bizarre tactics, thanks to a video that was passed around on social media. In the clip below, you can see some people doing push-ups in a bid to get their hands on some shoes. This practice is fairly demeaning and there were many would-be consumers who were very upset at what went down.

“The fuckery that’s Boston location pulled today was uncalled for and should be ashamed of themselves. They had people lined up for hours fir them to come out and pick random people and then have them do push ups like this was a circus,” Twitter user @jackie_cvshorty wrote.

Sneaker boutiques have been ramping up their tactics to weed out resellers, although making people do push-ups on the street is a bit ridiculous. At the end of the day, no shoe is worth more than your dignity.

Brianna Perry Asserts Her Dominance In The Female Rap Game With New Mixtape “Bad Bitch Boulevard”

Women have been asserting themselves as “the baddest bitch” since the early days of Lil Kim and Trina, and in 2021 that prestigious moniker is still being touted by the best female rappers in the game today. For Dade County dame Brianna Perry, she’s making sure you know exactly where to find the baddies with her impressive new mixtape, Bad Bitch Boulevard.

Over the span of 10 tracks, Brianna Perry showcases both an ear for what’s currently popping on the radio while also paying homage to some of the hip-hop greats that came before her throughout this latest project. She pays direct homage to OutKast’s classic track “Elevators (Me & You)” for a full verse on “Nat Turner,” a standout track where you’ll also hear verbal nods to late beat king J Dilla. On “Freak,” which get assistance from KaMillion & Coby Bishop, she’s even gives props to the queen of late-night bedroom bangers Adina Howard by sampling her classic 1995 hit “Freak Like Me.” In short, it’s clear that Perry knows how to pay respects to the artists that inspired and came before her.

Although she keeps things feature-free for the most part on Bad Bitch Boulevard, Brianna does pull out an appearance from often-controversial emcee Boosie Badazz titled “Like A Dawg,” which actually makes for one of the standout cuts on the project overall. Anytime the focus is on music and not the outside stuff is always ideal, so we can only hope Boosie keeps his “badazz” tendencies in the studio and not the streets.
