The Weeknd’s mass appeal is undeniable. While he once enticed fans with an aura of mystique and angsty, drug-fuelled lyricism, the Canadian melodist has since elevated into a global superstar. Commercially speaking, his stat block is enough to keep him in conversation with some of pop music’s greatest icons. Especially in the wake of his latest album After Hours, which has housed some of his biggest hits yet.

One such hit includes “Blinding Lights,” an eighties-inspired anthem that earned the Weeknd the most successful single of his career. In 2020, the track soared to new heights as Spotify’s most-streamed song and currently sits as the second-most streamed song (after Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You”) in the platform’s history. Currently sitting at 8X platinum with diamond soon to follow, it would appear that The Weeknd’s “Blinding Light” has now set yet another record.

In a post shared by XO co-founder Amir “Cash” Esmailian, who also co-manages The Weeknd, he confirms that “Blinding Lights” has become the first solo song to spend eighty weeks on the Hot 100 charts — and don’t expect that number to slow down. At this moment, the song currently sits in the seventeenth position, an impressive accomplishment given that it was originally released in November of 2019. And to think, it didn’t even receive a whiff of Grammy appreciation.

If you’ve been keeping up with the NBA, you likely already know that the New Orleans Pelicans recently just fired head coach Stan Van Gundy after spending just one season with the team. Following the move, reports surfaced suggesting Pelicans power forward Zion Williamson’s family is upset with the team.

The former basketball player, who also has two sons he’s coached through their high school career, told the outlet that he thinks he would be an excellent fit as the new head coach, adding that Zion and his family would be very satisfied with the move.

Chris Brown is reportedly under investigation for his alleged role in a battery case, being accused by a woman of smacking part of her weave off. The incident reportedly took place over the weekend with the woman claiming that Brown hit her so hard in the back of her head that part of her weave fell out. She reportedly did not sustain any other visible injuries.

As the world reacts to yet another reported battery incident involving singer Chris Brown, the recording artist is taking to his major social media platform to try and shift the narrative in his favor, claiming that the stories are all lies.

“YALL SO DAMN [CAP] [laughing emojis],” wrote Chris Brown on Instagram Stories this morning. So far, that’s all he’s had to say about the latest batch of accusations against him. 

Fans have been pointing out that Chris is regularly caught up in these kinds of allegations, noting that it seems to happen every single year. We will continue to keep you updated as any and all updates are reported in this case.

A recent conversation has caused a commotion for Trick Daddy. On Monday (June 21) evening, the Florida icon was captured having a discussion with a panel, and Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s names came up. The pair are, obviously, two of the most respected talents in the music industry, but every now and again there are people who come forward to say that they aren’t fans of the couple.

It’s unclear what happened before the clip was recorded, but it seemed that Trick Daddy Dollars was comparing Bey to another artist. “Beyoncé f*ck with her because she see money,” Trick is heard saying in the clip. “Beyoncé ain’t trying to give back to music or nothin’.”

“Beyoncé don’t write music and barely can sing her motherf*ckin’ self,” he continued. “Beyoncé can’t sang!” Others on the line co-signed Trick Daddy and questioned why so many people think the Destiny’s Child icon has talent. Then, Trick Daddy moved on to criticizing Jay-Z.

“Man, I watched my godmama train Beyoncé, vocal lessons all her career,” Trick continued. “I’mma give an unpopular opinion right now: Beyoncé is to R&B what Jay-Z is to New York. That’s why they together. Jay-Z ain’t never won the greatest rapper alive. Whoever put him on a level like that?” He added that New York needed a hero after Biggie died and so, people handed the title over to Jay.

As expected, reactions to these comments have been a mix of confusion and anger as people far and wide converged onto social media to give Mr. Dollars a talking to. Check out a few reactions below and let us know if you agree with Trick Daddy.

These latest accusations don’t look good for Chris Brown. The singer has had his fair share of legal troubles related to domestic violence accusations and twice—with both ex-girlfriends Rihanna and Karrueche Tran—restraining orders have been issued against Brown. His fans continue to support and defend him against accusatory critics who often bring up his past, but Brown has moved forward with his uber-successful music career while enjoying the fruits of his successes.

However, on Monday (June 21), TMZ reported that Chris Brown is currently under investigation due to a woman who claims he assaulted her.

The outlet reported that the alleged physical altercation occurred at his San Fernando Valley home over the weekend. The woman told police that Brown hit her in the back of her head so hard that “her weave came off.” Responding officers filed a battery report where Brown was officially named as the alleged assailant. The woman reportedly didn’t have any visible injuries, aside from the misplaced hairpiece, and no one was arrested.

Last month, authorities were summoned to Brown’s home after his birthday bash reportedly got a little out of control, but that was quickly handled as they broke up the shindig. It’s unclear if this current case will result in a charge, but we’ll all have to wait and see how it unfolds.
