The Weeknd Delivers His Video For ‘Try Me’ To Celebrate The Three-Year Anniversary Of ‘My Dear Melancholy’

The Weeknd has spent much of March celebrating some big anniversaries. There was the ten-year of his debut mixtape, House Of Balloons, which helped him break into the R&B world. Last March, The Weeknd released his most recent album, After Hours, to widespread acclaim. Finally, back on this date in 2018, he dropped the only EP of his career, My Dear Melancholy. To celebrate the latter, The Weeknd dropped a new video for one of the EP’s tracks, “Try Me.” It’s a fairly simple one that finds the Canadian singer lip-synching the lyrics to the song into the front-facing camera of his phone while he sits in the backseat of a car.

The video comes after The Weeknd teased that new music would arrive soon, albeit in a unique way. “new song living in NFT space. coming soon…,” he wrote in a post on Twitter. Whenever it arrives, the singer will join the likes of Ja Rule and Grimes as artists who have taken advantage of the NFT space. He also hinted at more releases as a part of his After Hours era. This was news he also delivered on Twitter, where he wrote, “p.s. this chapter isn’t quite done yet,” adding, “still tying some loose ends.”

Nia Riley Calls Soulja Boy “A Whole Ass Abusive Clown” Who Can’t Get Canceled

Soulja boy hasn’t responded to the accusations that Nia Riley has made against him, but weeks after sharing that she allegedly endured physical abuse at the hands of the rapper, Riley returns. The recently released video showing Migos rapper Quavo engaged in a physical altercation with now-ex-girlfriend Saweetie has prompted several conversations, and Nia has sparked another. The former Love & Hip Hop Hollywood star, and daughter to music legend Teddy Riley, believes that people are going to dismiss the incident with Saweetie and Quavo just as they ignored her allegations.

“I know y’all don’t gaf about women bc my ex a whole ass abusive known clown and y’all still entertain him,” Nia tweeted. “If he can’t get cancelled no1 can.” Riley then shared images that showed the definition of the word “abuse” along with the “ProtectAllWomen” hashtag. “Let’s normalize NOT normalizing abuse,” she added.

Riley and Soulja Boy appeared on Love & Hip Hop together in the early seasons of the franchise and detailed their spiralling romance. He admitted to acts of infidelity as Nia stayed by his side. She has claimed he held a gun to her head and kicked her in the stomach, resulting in a miscarriage. Check out a few of her tweets below.

Lil Nas X Responds To Accusation That He Copied FKA Twig’s “Cellophane” Visual

Between giving Lucifer a hell-throned lapdance and selling Satan-centered shoes, Lil Nas X has been kicking up dust over the last few days. His “MONTERO (Call My By Your Name)” music video has created a firestorm as people have lauded for the “canceling” of the young star. Lil Nas X has stated that he’s been preparing for the release of his “MONTERO” single for the better parts of nine months, suggesting that he was fully prepared for the backlash. He has been checking people left and right as they disagree with him, but FKA Twig’s video director has a bone to pick with the singer regarding his visual looking eerily similar to the star’s music video for “Cellophane.”

Out Magazine reports that director Andrew Thomas Huang had a few comments about Lil Nas X’s latest visual. “There’s no winning when this happens,” Huang reportedly wrote on his Instagram Stories. “Been copied before but this feels different… Consider the power you wield and the artists you harm when you capitalize on our blood, sweat, tears, and emotional labor.”

In his interview Time, the rapper mentioned Twig’s pole work in her “Cellophane” video, and Huang later told the publication that this goes far beyond Lil Nas X. “It put into perspective how small, indie artists like me and Twigs don’t really don’t make a lot of money, and our platform is limited because we’re trying hard to make challenging work.”

“When someone who is commercially successful makes work that lives so similarly next to ours and profits from it on such a massive scale, then I felt like I had to speak up.” Huang added, “I think Twigs and Lil Nas are both doing important work. The question is, who benefits from their work? The answer is record labels. The anger it stokes between artists just increases divisions between underrepresented artists. So I think there’s something larger and systemic here at work.”

This evening (March 30), Lil Nas X shared a post to social media where he honored Huang and Twigs for their previous work. “I was not aware that the visual would serve as a major inspiration for those who worked on the effects of my video,” he wrote in the caption. “I want to say thank u to twigs for calling me and informing me about the similarities between the two videos, as i was not aware they were so close.”

Malik Beasley Questions Paternity Of Son, Montana Yao Denied Spousal Support: Report

The ruckus regarding Malik Beasley’s romance with Larsa Pippen may have died down, but the legal battle with his estranged wife, Montana Yao, continues. The Minnesota Timberwolves star, 24, was captured on a date with Pippen, 46, last year and after the photo went viral, people began to speculate about their relationship. Yao came forward to say she was unaware that her husband was dating, but Pippen claimed Beasley and Yao had split and have been separated.

Beasley and Pippen put on a united front against the trolls and accusations of infidelity, and on Tuesday (March 30), new reports have surfaced regarding Beasley’s divorce. According to Us Weekly, Beasley is contesting the paternity of the two-year-old son he shares with Yao. “[The] results of those tests are unknown as of the date of this Order,” the court documents reportedly state.

Montana’s taking Makai to get one tomorrow [March 31],” Yao’s rep told the outlet regarding the paternity test. “It’s comical for her that he has requested a paternity test because this entire time on social media he has claimed Makai to be his son and he knows it’s his son.” Unsubstantiated rumors have circulated that Yao may have cheated on Beasley with an NFL player.

Additionally, it’s also reported that back in December 2020, Yao requested $8,000 per month in temporary spousal support, but yesterday (March 29), that was denied. She will, however, reportedly receive $6,500 per month in temporary child support.

Adrien Broner Supports Quavo, Says Elevator Fight With Saweetie Is “Black Tough Love”

The announcement of Quavo and Saweetie’s breakup already had fans choosing sides, but celebrities are drawing lines, as well. On Tuesday (March 30), a video of a physical altercation reportedly involving Quavo and Saweetie surfaced. The two artists began dating back in 2018 and by the look of things, they were happily in love. They showed up on red carpets together, posed for cute photos on social media, and Saweetie often bragged about the expensive gifts her Migos boyfriend lavished her with. It’s clear things weren’t what they seemed, and after Quavo caught heat over the recently released elevator clip, champion boxer Adrien Broner has stated that he supports the Atlanta artist.

“I ain’t see nothing wrong in that video if you ask me,” Broner wrote on Instagram. “That’s black love if me and my significant other don’t argue like that den I don’t want her cause I rather have somebody who might punch me while I’m sleep before I take a beautiful women who sneak off and f*ck another N*gga while I’m sleep… it’s the black tough love for me.”

Young Dolph Announces His Retirement Just Days After Releasing ‘Dum & Dummer 2’ With Key Glock

Last summer, Young Dolph delivered his seventh album Rich Slave, a 16-track effort that increased to 24 when its deluxe reissue arrived at the beginning of 2021, and which bore contributions from Key Glock, Megan Thee Stallion, G Herbo, and Kenny Muney. The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, making it the highest-charting release of his career. Dolph continued to impress with Dum & Dummer 2, his joint album with fellow Memphis rapper Key Glock, which dropped last week. Unfortunately for fans of Dolph, the new project marks an end to his career, as he took to Instagram to announce his retirement from hip-hop.

“I hope y’all enjoying the new mixtape, it’s my last project putting out,” he revealed in the post’s caption. “I wasn’t gonna tell y’all but i thought y’all should know im done with music. ENJOY.”

While the timing of the news may be unexpected, it’s not the first time that Dolph has announced his retirement. In March 2020, he called it quits from the rap game in order to spend more time with his family. “I’m done doing music so I can go kick it with my son,” he said at the time. “Key Glock is already poised to be the new torchbearer.” The retirement didn’t last long, as he quickly returned to begin the rollout for Rich Slave, which arrived five months later.

Dum & Dummer 2 is out now via Paper Route Empire. Get it here.

Megan Thee Stallion is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
